We have classified the 3 complaints from 2006 Kia Sedona about SEATS into the following categories.
The driver's seat became unsecured on the front side, so only the rear of the driver's seat is secured in place. if i lean back or accelerate quickly the entire seat tilts back. initially this occurred when i was stopped, as i leaned back to reach into my pocket to grab my wallet. but now it won't refasten, so it occurs when stationary or in motion.
Shortly after warranty expired (early 2012), the air bag light went on our kia sedona. i took the van to our local kia dealer to check and they told me that it was the weight classification seat sensor assembly (part 88610 - $1399.75 at that time) that had to be replaced. after labor cost and taxes it would be $2022!! kia was having some recalls around that time, but none to address this issue. the main reason we bought this van for our family was because of high safety ratings involving all the airbags. now we are driving without airbags and praying for extra angels around the van when we have to go on the highway. we would like to take long road trips, but that seems too dangerous without airbags. please investigate and you will find out it is a common issue with this make and model. kia needs to step it up and fix this issue; lives are at stake. thank you!
My 12 year old daughter was adjusting the seat back in the rear row of the kia sedona - when she unlatched the adjustment latch the rear seat back sprung forward (she was facing the rear to see the seat move) with such force that it hit her in the mouth and drove her bottom braces through her bottom lip - she required immediate medical attention to unhook the braces and then plastic surgery to close the wound (6 stitches in both the inside and outside of her mouth). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the arm rest in the middle row seats has two plastic pieces that do not meet or fit over the arm rest. while his daughter was seated in one of the middle row seats, she moved right to left and the plastic piece caused a severe laceration to her skin. he notified the dealer and the manufacturer and they stated that the seat was designed in that manner. the manufacturer provided him with reference number k1320663. the failure mileage was 4,000 and current mileage was 6,000.
During harder braking in a kia sedona van, the second row seat flipped forward and clobbered the driver's (mine) head. i was so startled that i had no control of the vehicle for a few seconds. nothing was hit. this was because the second row seats flip forward to allow rear entry but they do not necessarily re-latch when putting them upright again, either from a lack of re-latching force or debris/carpet interference with the latch. *jb
