SIDE/WINDOW 1

Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2006 Kia Sedona

The air bag light is on and has been on for almost a week. i was told my car wasn't under the recall so now i have to pay for the repair myself.

Air bag alert triggered. was verified by kia services department. recommendation to change would cost $ 2000.

Just on and want go off?

After a few years of owning the van my battery died. i replaced the battery but because of the low battery voltage it caused the airbag light to illuminate [code: "b1102-ub (vb ?) low voltage (<8v)"]. when the is light on none of the airbags will function in an accident. even though there is nothing wrong with the system, the light can only be shut off (and thus make the airbags functional) by clearing the code with a special reader that only the dealerships appear to have. the dealership will only do this if you pay $280. this is outrageous, there's no reason the airbag system shouldn't function after the code has been resolved. i feel like this is extortion from kia. the federal government mandates that cars have to have airbags you would expect that they would be required to work if there is nothing wrong with the system.

Problem #1. at approximately 111,000 miles my sedona's airbag light illuminated on my dash panel...and has stayed illuminated ever since. there was no accident or incident to provoke this light to illuminate. kia of dartmouth (ma) said it's a drivers side seatbelt sensor that is "bad". cost to repair $274.80! why is a "bad" sensor not the responsibility of the manufacturer? it's faulty. there was no misuse or abuse by the consumer, in other words, why is there no recall on this item? problem #2. at approximately 108,000 my sedona's tpms light and ( ! ) lights illuminated on my dash panel...and have stayed illuminated since. the tires are inflated to manufacture's specifications so there is no chance that the tires are under or over inflated. again, there is a "bad" sensor(s). why isn't there a recall on these faulty sensors?

I own a 2006 kia sedona. while operating the vehicle, the air bag sensor light illuminated and remains illuminated. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer has not been notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 113,000.

After 100,000 miles, the airbag lights turned on and have remained on since then. around the same time, the tpms lights also turned on and have remained on. my car has not been in any accidents where the airbags were deployed and it was stationary before the sensor turned on. my car was parked in my driveway like any other day when the problem appeared. this is a safety hazard since the airbags will not deploy if i were to get into any accidents due to the sensor being nonfunctional with the light remaining on. i do not know if this is a problem due to the sensor being faulty, airbags being faulty or manufacturing issues. i believe this is a problem that should be fixed and a recall should be implemented to avoid any serious injuries.

Airbag light came on and lookes like the sterring wheel airbag almost came out.

On our second airbag sensor issue for this vehicle. now stating weight sensor in front passenger seat is defective rendering the entire airbag system nonfunctional. a costly fix at $2500. after seeing the numerous complaints on this site i am a bit appalled that kia has not offered a recall on this issue. will be second guessing whether or not a kia will be our next vehicle purchase...when prior to this incident it would have been a no-brainer.

Went to auto parts store for oil filter - parked car. after filter purchase left store, tossed oil filter (fram tg9999) on passenger seat and started car; air bag light lit for the first time ever; no air bags were deployed. the vehicle (2006 sedona) has never been in an accident. the vehicle has 150052 miles on it and runs well. contacted kia about issue to see if there was a recall for air bag issues - was informed that there was no recall and told that vehicle is out of warranty having more than 100k miles, so i would have to have this serviced by a kia dealer. date below approx.

This complaint is regarding a single-owner 2006 kia sedona. since 2006 i have had numerous electrical related problems. over half the buttons and knobs on the stock cd player/radio have not worked for approximately eight years. i am having to replace headlight and turn signal bulbs every few months. the airbag indicator light is illuminated and will not shut off. i have not been involved in any accidents (yet) and would expect my airbags to deploy if and when necessary. my understanding is that the airbags will not function if the indicator light is illuminated. this is a major safety concern, as this is a family vehicle and i have three small children, and i take frequent road trips due to my job. as far as i know, there are no recalls associated with the airbag or electrical/lighting system for this vehicle. based on my research of complaints associated with this vehicle year, make, and model, recalls should be issued so affected owners may have these problems corrected at no charge and to prevent injury and or death.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. while operating the vehicle, the air bag senor light remained illuminated. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 87,000.

January 2007 we purchased a kia sedona because of the safety features for all passengers, an important feature because i transport children. in april of 2007 we were hit by a mini van in the front passenger quarter panel. the accident caused thousands of dollars of damage and no airbags deployed, which was a concern. 2016 we were in another accident while turning a corner. this time we were hit in the rear (3rd row) passenger quarter panel by a pick up. we were hit hard enough to push our van into the other lane, ending up jumping a curb & landing in the grass. no air bags deployed, which really upset me! the rear hatch looked like someone had opened it then shut it with a light pole laying across it. our insurance company totaled the van and asked us to go and get our things out. i put towels on all the seats to keep it clean. the 3rd row seat back (where it was hit) would not move at all and i could not remove the towel from it. the frame of the van had been pushed into the seat! the curtain air bag had not deployed! i called the service department where i purchased it and the manager told me there was not a curtain air bag in my van! after searching the paperwork i received with it, i found that it was supposed to have the curtain air bag covering 2nd & 3rd row seats. i am completely confused and very upset because i normally transport a 18 month old in the 3rd row seat on passenger side! if she had been in her car seat, she would have been hurt badly. not only because of an air bag failure but glass splinters. i got at least a dozen pieces of glass in my hands, and one took 2 days to get out! i researched to see if there were anymore complaints a out airbag failure and found several. we replaced our vehicle with another make. i sure wish that the kia sedona would have done what it was supposed to do. and i am hoping that kia corrected the issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag light remained illuminated and the horn stopped working. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

My 2006 kia sedona airbag light would come on and then go off after driving for a few miles or a couple days and this happened periodically on and off for a couple years. it has now stayed on for the last 4 months. turned on the van one day and the airbag light never went off. was sitting in my driveway on a flat surface. my van had a hundred and fifty-one thousand miles on it when the light came on and now has a hundred and fifty-three thousand miles. i bought this as a new van in 2007. it was a left over. i have had to replace the headlight bulbs and turn signal bulbs on the front over 10 times since i've owned it. this also seems to be an issue that people have stated with a 2006 kia sedona.

My airbag light has been on for months. never had an accident of any kind. it won't go out. looks like a common problem on these 2006 kia's. reading online that your airbags won't work if the light is on. not happy about that. apparently our government is not putting any pressure on kia to do a recall on this! can't afford the high price to get it fixed! will sell the car instead if i have to. just turned over 100k on it. figures. too bad. i really like this car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,866.

Takata recall my air bag light stays on all the time.. saw a show last night about the takata air bags exploding not at all sure how long it has been this way so the date below is not accurate it has been a couple years i think. i don't know how many miles but it is 140,000 now.

Front chassis need to be replaced and i change 2 alternator and baterry less dam a year is not safe casue the vehicle shuts down and the pedal brake geta hard to stop the van and the airbag light keep on all the time

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag wire harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle heard a noise coming from the rear brakes and the vehicle began to shake. the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.

My airbag light is on like many of the people i have seen complained about. this is a safety issue, i have read people saying it could cost $2000. i do not have that kind of money luckily in the state of pennsylvania your vehicle can still pass inspection of the light is on. but the point is i have family who use my van from time to time and i'm afraid of an accident happening and no airbags. i think it's ridiculous kia won't issue a recall it seems to be a known problem.

The esc and the abs light came on and know the break lights don't work and it keeps blowing my head lights the air bag is on and they stay on. this happens when you put it in gear and they stay on the whole time the auto is on. at frist it did every once in a while but know it stays on and my brake lights doesn't work.

After responding to tps code and eventually r/r tps, battery, and alternator, the air bags light remain on. the vehicleaning has not been in any accident.

2006 kia sedona with about 80000 miles on it. i have had the vehicle for over 3 years and have never been in an accident. my air bag light is on and it is due to a bad sensor under the seat which is not our fault. at the moment when this light is on no airbags work and this is a family vehicle. kia needs to pay to fix these problems as they are their fault, there are thousands of people with the same make and model as me with the same issues. kia needs to make a recall on all 2006 sedonas and pay for these faulty wires and sensors they installed. i do not have 900 bucks to fix something i did not cause, where are consumers rights!!?? *tr

Air bag light stays on after engine ignition when it should turn off. the car has never been in an accident. we have three kids who frequently ride the vehicle and worry that should we happen to been in an accident the air bag will not activate. therefore, this kindof of endangerment must be dealt seriously and, therefore kia should issue a recall for the vehicle with similar problems to correct the faulty device. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure recurred continuously. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

This vehicle's "airbag" light sensor came on upon starting my vehicle routinely. i was not involved in any accident prior to the light illuminating. i received an estimate of $968.71 to repair two airbag sensors at the dealership. i then learned that the airbag light once illuminated shuts down the entire airbag system in the vehicle and that there are over 44 registered nhtsa complaints on the 2006 kia sedona models. i called kia consumer assistance center and was issued a case number. i have allied the assistance center and kia consumer affairs department of the western regional office over two dozen times beginning december 18, 2014 asking why there has not been a service campaign for this vehicle and they said one time that they would not pay for the repair and suggested i call the western regional office which i call daily with no return call from kia's [xxx] . kia consumer assistance has promised me a return phone call daily since december 19, 2015 which i never receive. i am not driving the vehicle since the airbag system is down and renders the van unsafe to drive my family. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Air bag sensor light came on, no accident, no other problems

The airbag light is illuminated and won't go off. i see that this is an ongoing problem with a multitude of 2006 kia sedona owners. i am told that this shuts the whole airbag system off until it is corrected and is very expensive to have fixed. as with many others, my young children ride in this car and i don't feel safe. this should be a recall. please help us. thank you. *tr

Air bag light illuminated with no accident taking place. i purchased the vehicle new in 2006 and it has never been in an accident. i have called the dealership but they want to charge me $135 just to look at the vehicle. the actual repair would be an additional charge. i called kia motor company but they will not take care of the issue at no cost. they say it is out of warranty (which it is) and there is not a recall (which there isn't, yet, but probably should be) so they can not offer to fix the problem at no cost. i understand the air bag system will not function at all if the air bag light is illuminated so now, my wife is driving an unsafe vehicle that is less than 10 years old and just turned over 100,000 miles. i think kia should stand behind the safety system of the vehicle and repair it at no cost to me. *tr

Air bag warning light came indicating a possible failure with the air bag deployment sensors/wiring. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag light continuously illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced three sensors to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

My airbag light stays on all the time. when i addressed this issue with the kia dealership they said that they would do a diagnostic for $95. my concern is that if i got into an accident my airbag would not deploy. this should be addressed as a safety concern and have kia issue a recall. when i google this problem there are a lot of other kia sedona owners having the same issue. some of them have had to pay over $400 to have it fixed. i am a single mother and cannot afford to pay this amount of money to have an airbag fixed, when it should be a recall in the first place. *tr

Side sliding door opens while car is in drive. luckily i was able to pull over and push it closed, but it scares me when i'm driving and my son is in his car seat and the door chime will go off because the door is opening. this needs to be fixed asap. air bag light is on quite often and had to take to mechanic to see what was wrong. *tr

Air bag light would not shut off. dealer said that i needed to have seat belt buckle replaced at a cost off $400. are you kidding me? *tr

2006 sedona air bag warning light in dash stays on. i have had this car since new and this is about the 6th time the light stay on and this was after a severe winter with a lot of salt on the road. it happened with in a week after the dealer performed 3 recalls, 2 to correct metal parts from rust from salt and a failing rear heater hose usually the light stays on for 2 to 3 days but this time it has been on for 3 weeks. one time when it was on i took it to the dealer and they said it was a ground problem. this problem started after the dealer took apart the head liner for the 2nd time to repair a leak. when they put the headliner back there were over 10 things they did not put back correctly. from that time on i said i had no faith in the air bags deploying if i would be in a crash. now that the light is on for over 3 weeks i have to pay to have it fixed as it is now out of warranty. this problem is reported many times on the internet and kia needs to address this problem!

For no reason what so ever, my air bag light came on today and the passenger air bag off light stays on, regardless of if there is someone in the seat. i did have to replace the battery back in january, but i did notice that it did this once before, however shutting it off and restarting it always fixed the problem. there should be a recall on this, from what i'm reading. this is a safety issue. *tr

The air bag light came on at around 80k miles and has stayed on. i have checked the connections beneath the driver and passenger seats; all appear firmly seated. it should also be noted that i had recently replaced the battery before the light came on, a common precursor to this problem if the online forums are any indication. at any rate, this appears to be far too common (and expensive!) an issue among kia owners, to say nothing of its incredible significance as a safety hazard. kia should issue a recall and fix this manufacturer's defect promptly. *tr

Date and mileage are approximate. air bag light on dash lit up and stayed on continuously. because i was ill at the time i was not able to get the vehicle into the dealer until after the 100,000 mile mark. they then told me that a sensor in the front passenger seat was bad, and that i would have to replace the whole seat at a price of $2,000 to correct the problem. in the meantime, they told me that until that sensor was replaced the whole airbag system was non-functional. this is a travesty that a whole safety system can be disabled for want of a 25 cent sensor, and that they can dictate that i need to replace the seat at a price of $2,000 to correct the problem. where the redundancy in the system? where's the ability to just replace the sensor? my car is barely worth $6,000. i cannot afford a $2,000 seat, but i also cannot afford to be without an airbag system, which i paid dearly for when i bought the vehicle. i think kia is greatly at fault for selling such a poor system, and for failing to correct it. i contacted kia. they did not wish to hear about my problem. *js

I bought my van in 2012 from modern toyota in winston salem nc. i have never had a problem. i did have a battery issue and replaced the battery about 4 months ago. all the sudden my airbag light has come on and will not go off. i am concerned because i have three children, and i have heard that the 2006 kia sedona has these problems with airbag. is there going to be a recall on it? *tr

my air bag dtc light has come on. *tr

The entire vehicle air bag system is not functioning. i have been told, by kia, that it will cost $2,500 to repair this problem. unfortunately, although it seems to be caused by the front passenger seat belt buckle, which would cost $175 to replace, the entire system ceases to function when any problem occurs and requires that not only the seat buckle be replaced, but also the seat frame ($700) and air bag computer system ($1,500). although this vehicle is very reliable and sound mechanically, my family is at risk everytime we are on the road. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag and esc warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the computer in the front driver or passenger's side seat would have to be replaced. the technician was unable to guarantee the repair after replacing the part. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000. *tr

My air bag light came on and has stayed on since then. i have not had the money to have it looked at. *js

My air bag light came on, and has stayed on ever since. the dealer wants $100.00 to check why the light is on. i told them kia should check it for free, because it is a safety issue. they told me kia won't do this. i don't think they care enough about their customers. i am sure they will care, when someone with this issue, gets into an accident, and their air bags do not deploy. *tr

2006 kia sedona. consumer writes in regards to air bag light illuminating. *smd the dealer informed the consumer, with the air bag light on, there was a possibility the air bag(s), may not deploy.

The airbag light illuminates on dash and the passenger airbag light illuminates off when a passenger is seated in the seat. this is a hazard considering the airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident. i had seen that the sorentos and other models has a similar issues and there is a recall to fix the issue which takes less than a minute. why has kia not provided the same service for the sedonas. this is an issue the kia has known about and needs to take action before more people get hurt. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. the contact also stated that a chime sounded indicating that a door was ajar, although all doors were secured. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,000.

Was in a accident struck many trees lots of front end damage, both passenger and drivers side damage and my air bag did not deploy. *tr
