Check engine light came on. diagnosed as throttle position sensor. car ran sluggishly for a short while, then that stopped, light went off. today, light came on again. backing out of a parking stall in a mall, the engine accelerated without touching the gas pedal, causing the car to lurch uncontrollably backwards, about ten feet. fortunately, no pedestrian was behind the car, but if they had been, they would have been injured or worse. called kia, they say there is no recall on this sensor, and it is not under warranty. from searching the internet, it appears this problem is widespread.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 kia amanti. while driving 75 mph, the throttle body stuck, shut everything down and also caused the pedal to stick. the traction control and the electronic stability is not working. the fly by wire system is all electronic, there is no actual cable that goes from the gas pedal to the throttle body. the dealer duplicated the failure and stated that they were able to correct the problem with the throttle body sticking; however, the failure continued to occur. the failure almost caused a crash. the manufacturer informed the contact that if he filed a lemon law complaint, they would not provide any further assistance. the contact has several service records that include numerous diagnosis that have been performed on the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were 18,000.
