With only 266 miles on the wrangler, the automatic 8 speed transmission completely failed while trying to accelerate onto the freeway. it became very jerky and appeard to be down shifting while accelerating. i stopped on the shoulder, turned off the engine. turned on the engine and attempted to manually shift the transmission. i got up to 3rd gear and then it started down shifting again. i could not drive the vehicle on the freeway and i was lucky to not be blocking a lane which could have resulted in a rear end colission. the check engine light was on. the d on the center counsel was blinking. i pulled over and stopped the engine. i started the engine again and tried to back up a few feet and it acted like it was in neutral and would not move. the r on the counsel was also blinking. i was affraid to continue driving the wrangler and had it towed to the dealer that sold me the car less than 7 days earlier. it has been at the dealership for 6 days and as far as i know they have contacted the factory for ...
Approaching light turning from yellow to red. applied breaks. vehicle would not stop. abs system engages loudly car shakes uncontrollably - does not come to stop. vehicle proceeds into intersection and is unable to break. vehicle speed 35-40 approaching light with 50-60 yards to stop safely. complete failure of breaks. third time had to return vehicle to dealer for failure of systems.
I bought a new 2017 jeep wrangler manual transmission. the car will pop out of reverse and will grind the gears until i put the clutch in or take it out of gear. the dealer said it was the shifter. they said it has been confirmed that is the issue and they are replacing under warranty.
Vehicle was driven and put into park. when restarted, even though i was able to move the gear shift, the jeep would not move out of park. one dealership said it coded as the transmission control module and supposedly replaced it along with a transmission flush. left and drove the jeep, but it felt like it was always trying to shift into gear. drove about 130 miles and had to get gas even though i was at 3/4 tank when i picked it up after "repairs". turned the vehicle off, got gas and restarted it. again, would not go into gear but i was able to move the gear shifter.
Auto trans: slight rough idle at stop in gear, engine will shut off when put in reverse resulting in loss of power steering and power brakes. has happened multiple times when first driving out of my driveway even when vehicle has warmed up.
Vehicle stalls when put into reverse when cold. this does not mean only first start of the day. when transmission fluid is under 120 degrees, it will stall in reverse with brake depressed. upon restart, the starter will engage for a prolonged period even after the vehicle starts, the starter will continue to run too long. when the vehicle restarts after a stall, it will idle rough when shifted back into reverse. no problems in drive. started at a mileage of around 35,000. vehicle now at 58,000 and has progressively worsened.
Vehicle caught fire while sitting in driveway in front of home 30 minutes after driving the vehicle. total loss.
Vehicle was being driven approx 30mph on a city road when a loud bang was heard. immediately pulled over and luckily a stranger following behind quickly escorted the driver out as the vehicle completely went up in flames. metal chunks and pieces could be heard falling underneath the vehicle. upon closer inspection the transmission had completely exploded and ejected the clutch assembly shearing the input shaft and rupturing a fuel line. the vehicle was a complete total loss with flames immediately entering the passenger cabin in seconds. if it was not for a brave bystander serious injury or death would have occurred. this is a new transmission introduced in the new jl wrangler and gladiator and has been happening more and more. it's a serious safety issue that jeep refuses to look into and needs to be investigated immediately. transmission explosion to this degree not only can result in a fire but also metal projectiles hitting bystanders and coming through the floor boards and possibly resulting in injury or death. if you are reading this and have a manual jeep wrangler have it checked immediately! this was a completely unknown problem showing no symptoms whatsoever.*jb
On cold start the vehicle stall when you place it into gear. rpms drop before stalling. happen with and without auto start.
