Problems with 2016 Jeep Wrangler POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 25 896 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Auto trans: slight rough idle at stop in gear, engine will shut off when put in reverse resulting in loss of power steering and power brakes. has happened multiple times when first driving out of my driveway even when vehicle has warmed up.

Vehicle stalls when put into reverse when cold. this does not mean only first start of the day. when transmission fluid is under 120 degrees, it will stall in reverse with brake depressed. upon restart, the starter will engage for a prolonged period even after the vehicle starts, the starter will continue to run too long. when the vehicle restarts after a stall, it will idle rough when shifted back into reverse. no problems in drive. started at a mileage of around 35,000. vehicle now at 58,000 and has progressively worsened.

On cold start the vehicle stall when you place it into gear. rpms drop before stalling. happen with and without auto start.

When we 1st start the vehicle in the morning and put into reverse the vehicle dies. we took it to the dealership one time and they were unable to replicate the problem. they flashed three computer and it stopped for a while but has started back up again.

When it is cold outside, only first thing in the morning, and i attempt to place the vehicle in reverse, it stalls out. on some occasions the rmp's will drop but it won't actually stall out. this problem is all over this site and all over the jeep forum. it is the torque converter, this was replaced in my vehicle. it took two different trips, to two different dealerships for them to diagnosis and fix the problem as it is intermittent. i am unsure why this is not a recall as so many jeep owners appear to have this same problem.

On a cold morning, i started it up, put it in reverse and it sputtered and stalled out. this has happened 3 times now. online investigating indicates that the torque converter may be the culprit.

I took my jeep for an oil change service. the mechanic told me he found a leak on the front of the engine. after further inspections, i discover the engine oil cooler has a leak. i was told this issue is not covered under my warranty because is over the 60k. my research shows that this is a non-issue with the 3.6l engine nhtsa id # 10138863. we need help making the manufacturer responsible for faulty products.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. while driving 35 mph, the abs and traction warning indicators illuminated. the contact lost control of the vehicle and swerved off the road. the transmission revved and the rpms went all the way up. the vehicle was taken to premier cape cod jeep (460 yarmouth rd, hyannis, ma 02601, (508) 815-5000) to be diagnosed, but the dealer would not service the vehicle due to the warranty issues and they were also booked for weeks with appointments. the vehicle was also taken to heller jeep (635 mill st route 6, marion, ma 02738, (508) 748-0019) where it was diagnosed that the abs and traction sensors needed to be repaired. the dealer further stated that the engine overheated and leaked coolant and the transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 17,978.

My vehicle has been in the dealership approx. four times, because the service engine light comes on, followed by the traction control light. they said that the cable connection gets loose and they soldered it. this started about 20000 miles and is now at 57778 miles. this last time on 4-24-2019 they said that it has stored codes for the cam sensors on both banks and torque request denied signal and torque management signal performance. p2638, c121c, p0344, p0369. they said that it has pcm update and that they performed the pcm update again and cleared codes to see if they would come back. vehicle driven 30 miles and and one large bump in the road and the lights turned on again. this happens while going down dirt roads. they also told me the first time that it was taken in that the cable is to short and causes stress and stretches, causing it to come loose. this time they said if the lights came back on that they would have to have the vehicle back to do more extensive tests and possible replace the sensors at my expense. this seems to be a reoccurring problem that always comes back. they also stated that this is a problem on all wranglers. this seems to be a manufactures defect and needs to recalled and fixed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the condensation from the air conditioner was running down and rusting the bolts and gasket of the transmission fluid pan. as a result, there was an odor of burning anti-freeze. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 54,000. *bf the consumer stated transmission gasket as well. *tr

When starting from a stop the transmission pops out of 1st gear.

On cold days after the jeep has been sitting overnight, the engine will stall when the transmission is shifted into drive or reverse when the brake pedal is firmly pressed. this happens when the jeep is started and it makes no difference if the car is running for 30 seconds before it is shifted or running for 3 minutes, the engine will stall when shifting into drive or reverse. if the brake is not firmly pressed the engine won't stall when the transmission is shifted into drive or reverse. this causes the jeep will lurch forward, for drive, or backward, for reverse,

When starting my 2016 jeep wrangler unlimited up, first start in the day, or morning.start vehicle up, let warm up for at least 1 minute, put foot on brake put gear shifter in reverse, to back out of driveway, go to release brake, and vehicle stalls out.this has happened several times, about once or twice a week, took to dealer and they said can't find no codes..i've been on a jeep forum for a few weeks, and everyone on the site says dealership has found the problem and fixed, what would be the torque converter, seem to be lots of 2016 jeeps out in the world, having the same issues. ..

There is already a recall on the driver side air bag posted on 1/9/2019 which my dealership has not yet fixed as of 1/24/19. there is another issue with a "cold start" put into reverse and thus when done it is stalling. no codes ... no waring lights. my 2016 has been doing this now for almost 6 months.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that after the vehicle was started in the morning and was reversed out of the driveway, the vehicle stalled. the contact stated the failure recurred after driving and coming to a complete stop. an appointment was scheduled with reed chrysler located at 1724 n spring st, beaver dam, wi 53916 (920) 887-2300 which was still pending. the contact was informed that the failure may be due to a torque sensor failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 20,000.

I have an front and rear engine leaking .

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. while driving approximately 35 mph on a steep incline, the contact downshifted the manual transmission and the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. the contact placed the vehicle in neutral to forcibly stop the vehicle and the rpms increased to the maximum. the contact restarted the vehicle after three attempts. the vehicle was taken to salmon river motors (1065 south chillis street, salmon, idaho 83467, (208) 756-4211) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the contact was referred to the manufacturer, but they were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. *tt*jb

While driving under normal conditions at approximately 5-10 miles an hour on a city street the shift lever (part of the manual nsg370 transmission) dislocated from the shifter mechanism. the shift lever (p/n 52060064ag ) was allowed an unsafe amount of play and was able to turn several degrees in both clock and counter clock wise directions. this prevented access to some gears while driving. upon inspection, it was noted that the rubber bushing within the metal cylinder housing of the shift lever was cracked and no longer provided adequate tension to hold the shift lever in place. as a temporary fix, i removed the shift lever from the shifter mechanism and wrapped a single strip of duct tape around the rubber bushing. after reinstalling the shift lever there was enough tension for me to engage every gear without any notable play.

Vehicle has developed a rattle in the clutch/transmission assembly. searches for other people affected by this yield numerous reports of clutch throw out bearing failures. it affects shifting and clutch engagement negatively. makes it hard to positively engage shifts at speed. mine has not yet failed but the dealership and jeep have both been very resistant to acknowledge a safety issue that clearly affects numerous manual transmission wranglers dating back to ~2008. a personal acquaintance also had a clutch throw out bearing fail on the highway (same make model and year vehicle). he is currently pursuing replacement of vehicle after massive damage done from throw out bearing failure. please be aware that my vehicle had already had the shifter replaced (recall failure). this issue is separate from the shifter linkage recall. i've attached some documentation below (a small sampling of the users who are experiencing this issue for years)

Engine mis fire also vehicle was sold as new to me and had over 200 miles on it parts were missing from roof engine mis fire cytinder 2 factory says not warranted how ever i have been toild by dealer was warranted as the heads are made by two different companies said repair is back logged and will take at lase 3 weeks to replir

I was driving on the interstate and the engine just died. i pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle and when i put it in gear it acted as if it were in neutral. i then shut off the vehicle and restarted it and it drove fine. this happens randomly (could occur twice in one day or not for 2 weeks) and at different speeds (city and highway). i also have had random misfire codes and camshaft position sensor codes. sometimes the codes clear on their own and i have had to reset the codes with a tuner. i spoke to the dealer and it will be around a week before they can look at it, even in light of the danger for an engine just dying.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. while driving 50 mph, the gear shifter failed to work without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to the local dealer (first chrysler dodge jeep ram located at 280 e washington st, north attleborough, ma 02760; (508) 316-8400), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 6,640.

Shift lever rotates 180 degrees left and right when shifting from gear to gear making it very difficult to drive. this occurs when the vehicle is stationary and in motion.

Manual transmission gear shift lever gets really sloppy gear shift almost hits floor and rotates

The shifter on my manual 2016 jeep wrangler broke today while i was getting on the highway. it almost caused a bad accident. there are 4,000 miles on the car. it felt like it became disengaged and was turning sideways and making crackling sounds, like broken bones. it became difficult to put into gear or to know which gear the car was in. i managed to pull over and am waiting for roadside assistance. a quick glance through a jeep forum and i found many others with the same exact description. all 2016 jeep wranglers. they mention having to replace a faulty part (52060064ag). issues are starting to become well documented here: http://www.wranglerforum.com/showthread.php?p=27212978

My 2016 manual jeep rubicon unlimited (approx 14k miles) drove/shifted fine on my way to work (about 3 miles, very light traffic) last night, but when i got back in the jeep to head home, the stick-shift was all caddy wompus and i struggled to get it into gear to back out of my parking space. it felt like it had twisted sideways and fallen down. to get it into 1st gear, i had to shove it far to the left toward the steering wheel, and for 2nd gear, i had to practically jam the shifter into my leg. finding neutral and reverse was tricky--the whole shifter mechanism felt like broken bones and mush. i was able to get it home (thankfully a short drive on back roads where i could go slow and there was no traffic) but was baffled by how it was fine earlier, then suddenly junk. thankfully i was not on the highway or on a trip somewhere with my daughter in the jeep. a tow truck picked it up this morning at our home because driving it 16 miles to the dealer in the city in heavy traffic (not knowing if shifting would be an option) seemed very dangerous. the rep at the jeep dealer said he had never seen this before, however i discovered many people on wranglerforum.com have reported the exact same issue. without hearing back from the dealer yet to verify, it appears to be the 52060064ag lever gearshift / bushing that has malfunctioned/broken. i am very disappointed that my first ever american made vehicle feels like cheap junk. in addition to this potentially very serious issue, there have been other minor irritating issues such as the driver side mirror simply falling off while driving, and the fender over the rear wheel falling off. things like this should not happen with a new "tough" (and relatively expensive) vehicle. i am disappointed and, frankly, pissed. does quality even exist anymore?

I have an automatic jeep rubicon 2016 unlimited. it died during motion after shifting to reverse from drive. i was doing a sharp turn where i needed to go back immediately and just when i shift reverse (during pressing the brakes like normally everybody does) it shut down. then, i put in park and started it again and it didn't recognize the reverse (idling but not moving). i had to put it off (after shifting to park) and start it again. at the second time it recognized reverse and worked fine for now. no codes during the incident. my case is similar to the complaint: nhtsa id number: 10850113.

2016 jeep wrangler unlimited black bear edition 6 speed manual. shift lever is making clicking sound when shifting. shifter can rotate 360 degrees. feels loose when shifting and interferes with put jeep into gear. unable to drive vehicle until it gets fixed. is covered under power train warrenty. only had the jeep for 6 months.

Manual gear lever spins making the vehicle impossible to shift. happened overnight.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle failed to shift to fourth, fifth or sixth gear. in addition, the contact stated that vehicle also failed to shift the reverse. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shifter assembly was fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,000.

The connection of the gear shifter to the manual transmission breaks, leaving you stuck in whatever gear it was last in, and basically stranded. i personally was in a parking garage when it occured, others have been on and off all kinds of roads. see this link for the collection of others having this problem: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f202/16-jku-manual-6-speed-broken-shifter-1625138.html

Broken shifter. was out in the country and after lunch i was about to start driving back home and felt the shifter kinda loose. as i pulled into the highway i noticed i wasn't able to shift 5th or 6th gear and then noticed the shifter was able to rotate... crazy. it was very difficult to select a gear, good thing is that i was already on the highway and no need to downshift although had to drive only in 5th gear as it was impossible to select 6th gear. i am close to the highway so as soon as i pulled off the highway, i drove home; it was a bit scary; i thought i had broken something. as soon as i got home and parked my jeep i contacted a couple of friends and told me to either take it to the dealer the next day or call roadside assistance as maybe a tow truck would be needed. next day in the morning, decided to give it a try and drove it, very carefully, to the dealer (is like 3 miles away from my place). once there, the technician told me she hadn't seen or known of a similar issue and that yes, the shifter was either loose or broken. fixed under warranty in 4 days, no explanation. i told her when i picked it up that to me it was a safety issue and i had drove it without knowing the full extent of the issue.

2016 jeep wrangler unlimited rhd. the check engine light and traction light came on while driving. restarted the vehicle and traction went off. check engine went off later that day, but came back on. traction was intermittent, but would turn off when restarted. next day, check engine light and traction came on and twice while moving the engine died. i lost total control of vehicle, but was going slow at the time. once on a curve and the other time while turning. second time was toward a deep ditch, but stopped short. this is very dangerous. quality motors tried to fix once. will take back tomorrow when they could fit it in.

Manual transmission will not stay in reverse and pops out of gear. when backing up your have to hold it in which takes alot of force but still pops out 95% of the time. been this way since we bought it. only 3500 miles on the vehicle.

While driving on city streets the manual transmission's shift lever became loose making it difficult to shift into any gear. the lever would rotate 360 degrees around its center and eventually come completely off of its mount. when rotated, the offset in the shift lever being at a new angle would lead to shifting being obstructed by the driver or passenger's legs and seats. after coming off of its mount while stationary gear selection became impossible without repair. dealer would eventually complete a repair under warranty. items noted on the service order: lever: 52060064ag, screw: 6506668aa, pcm update flashed

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate at 15 mph, the vehicle became stuck in low gear without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the failure was undetermined. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred three times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 725.
