Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags). the part to do the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
My air bag warning light has come on after only 40,000 miles. it stays on intermittently and may stay on for 20 minutes then be off for several more minutes. then turn back on again.
Air bag light came on while driving down a local city street. took it in to the dealership and it was diagnosed as a faulty clock spring rendering the air bag inoperable. my complaint is that nhtsa already has 2 recalls on this problem but for right hand drive wranglers only. my jeep has the same problem, concerning the same parts, for the same reasons the right hand drive air bag failures occurred. jeep refuses to cover my jeep under these recalls. nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 and nhtsa campaign number: 11v528000
The clock spring has was replaced once at partial cost to me. it is now out again. now the traction control light is on, and it affects the way i'm driving.
Air bag warning light noted problem with airbag while vehicle was stationary or moving. inspection by dealer found the clockspring needed to be replaced for driver side airbag.
The airbag light came on intermittently for a week. by the time i had decided to take my jeep in for service the light no longer comes on. i checked on the internet and discovered it was a clockspring problem but since there is no error light on now, i cannot take it in for repair. how do i know my airbags are working? my blower also cuts off occasionally and then comes back on. it does this at least once a year.
Airbag clockspring was replaced under recall m031 in early 2012. the part recalled had failed again causing airbag light to be illuminated, loss of speed control, loss of steering wheel audio controls, loss of horn, and loss of "step" and "reset buttons for the information center. this issue started out when turning the steering wheel in the left or right position and within a few weeks has became a constant problem to no avail.
Air bag light and warning is going on and off when turning the steering wheel. dealer says the clock spring needs to be replaced. there is a recall on right hand drive vehicles and numerous reports of all clock springs failing.
Faulty clockspring airbag light appears sporadically when vehicle is in motion and i have someone in the passenger seat, notifying me that their airbag is deactivated. horns volume is weak. possibly a coincidence, but the low tire pressure alert appears at start-up. all tires (goodyear lt285/70r17) read 45-50 psi. this part is recalled in 2007 and 2008 jeep wranglers, but not for 2009-2016. it is the exact same part.
2012 right hand drive jeep exhibiting all the symptoms described in recall of of other 2012 models with airbag clock problem, but vin number does not appear in recalls. airbag light is no longer intermittent but rather is now on continuously.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. while driving 35 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bag clock spring failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,500.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. while driving 20 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,644.
The airbag light came on and then shut off, when i went to the dealership for inspection they stated that it would not pass because of the airbag light coming on. i have read that this has become a common problem with my year vehicle, and that there may be an investigation in regards to it. the problem that was diagnosed was an electrical failure in the clock spring/steering wheel. i had to replace the clock spring for a total of $518.31 out-of-pocket
Confirmed bad clockspring unit by dealership that controls the driver side airbag. unit was not exposed to anything extreme like water or heat but just stopped working while driving home from work airbag light came on. when the steering wheel is turned the sensor light goes back off so the sensor turns on and off with regular driving on any road or condition.
I was involved in a single vehicle accident on 10/5/15, traveling approximately 30mph, when my jeep suddenly jerked to the right without warning, causing it to swerve off the road and into a ditch. the jeep hit the front end of the ditch at an angle that launched it airborne, then landed on the cement wall of a culvert approximately two feet away. the jeep bounced twice on the cement wall, cracking the frame in two places, then landed in the culvert, hit the front end of the culvert, then hit a small pole where it finally stopped. despite slamming on the brakes the entire time, nothing in the vehicle seemed to be working. my airbags did not deploy and my seatbelts did not engage, causing me to slam my forehead on the steering wheel with each impact (3-4 times, i honestly don't recall) and hitting my chest once on the steering wheel. i called chrysler to report the incident after the insurance adjuster raised concerns about the airbags not deploying, and was given a case number and told i would be contacted. after a number of further attempts to contact them, they have refused to return my calls or acknowledge my complaints. i am now aware of a number of recalls regarding the orc module in many chrysler vehicles, and wonder if this could have been a contributing factor in my accident. i suffered a severe concussion and was out of work for three months. i had to quit my second job, causing significant financial strain on my family. i have since had chronic neck pain and migraines, an mri showed traumatic disc herniations at c2-6, for which i have to see a neurosurgeon. i have had multiple injections and other procedures on my neck since the accident, but continue to have pain daily. at my request, my insurance company has kept the totaled jeep, untouched, in a secured lot, until i can find someone to help me determine why the seatbelts failed to protect me.
I was involved in a single vehicle collision, with "multiple front end impacts" and significant damage to the vehicle. i was driving approximately 35-40 mph, when the vehicle jerked to the right i hydroplaned (this is my best guess and veered to the shoulder. the street is narrow, with only a very thin shoulder. the jeep then went off the road, drove through a deep rain-filled ditch, hit the front end of that ditch, launching the jeep airborne. during that impact, the front axle was ripped off. i then landed in another ditch (a culvert with 2 cement walls), where the jeep bounced twice on the cement wall, cracking the frame each time, then landed in the ditch, where i kept going until i hit a small construction pole. my jeep had the additional side airbag package. despite the severity of the crash, my airbags did not deploy, and my seat belt never tightened. this resulted in me being thrown forwards and backwards multiple times (at least 3 that i recall). i suffered a tbi, and missed 2.5 months of work. i had to quit my second job. i have also had ongoing neck pain, initially thought to be muscular. an mri recently completed shows disk herniation of c3-c6.
I was involved in a single vehicle collision, with "multiple front end impacts" and significant damage to the vehicle. i was driving approximately 35-40 mph, when i hydroplaned (this is my best guess, i really don't note what happened), and veered to the shoulder. the jeep then went off the road, drove through a deep rain-filled ditch, hit the front end of that ditch, launching the jeep airborne. during that impact, the front axle was ripped off. i then landed in another ditch (a culvert with 2 cement walls), where the jeep bounced twice on the cement wall, cracking the frame each time, then landed in the ditch, where i kept going until i hit a small construction pole. my jeep had the additional side airbag package. despite the severity of the crash, my airbags did not deploy, and my seat belt never tightened. this resulted in me being thrown forwards and backwards multiple times (at least 3 that i recall). i suffered a tbi, and missed 2.5 months of work. i had to quit my second job. i have also had ongoing neck pain, initially thought to be muscular. an mri recently completed shows disk herniation of c3-c6.
I was involved in a single vehicle accident on 10/2/2015 involving 2012 jeep wrangler, my vehicle jerked to the right suddenly causing me to lose control. the jeep was jerked off the road into a ditch on the right, hit the front end of the ditch and was launched airborne, then crashed on the cement wall of a second ditch, bouncing twice before landing in the ditch and hitting the front end of that ditch. i repeatedly slammed on my brakes but they did not engage. my airbags did not deploy. my seat belt tensioner did not engage, causing me to be thrown forward and backwards repeatedly. i suffered a closed head injury and herniations to multiple discs in my neck as well as trauma to the facet joints in my neck, resulting in severe foraminal stenosis at multiple levels that requires neurosurgical intervention. i slammed my head on the steering wheel 4 times, my chest once. this accident forever changed my life. i have repeatedly called fca to file a formal complaint, am always told someone will call me back. it's been almost two years and no one has called me back. i was given a case number and told someone would come look at my vehicle to inspect it, never happened. as i face urgent surgery to my spine with pain to my neck radiating down my right arm, all i can think about is chrysler. they recalled 2016-2017 jeep wranglers for faulty wiring of the occupant restraint control module, as well as jeep patriots and compasses made the same year as my vehicle along with millions of other chrysler vehicles. fca refuses to return my phone calls, how many more people are they ignoring? they need see what happens when they don't recall all vehicles built with the same components, knowing there are more vehicles not included in the recall that pose a safety risk.
Right after 36 month mark (but below 30,000mi mark), an air bag malfunction light went on. it would stay on for the duration of a trip or even when the vehicle is parked with engine idling. my vehicle was never in collisions, fender-benders, or otherwise experienced any insults to the air bag sensors or wiring. i had 7yr/75,000mi warranty from chrysler that allegedly covers all major components and electronics. however, it does not cover the air bags. that is, chrysler therefore does not consider air bags a major component. as a consumer, safety of my passengers and i is a major issue. thus, i ended up paying nearly $1,000 to repair the issue at a chrysler dealership. i am hearing similar complaints from wrangler owners. chrysler needs to make things right.
After driving some national forest gravel roads in the blue mountains in washington state, my air bag dash board indicating light turned on. i made an appointment with the local jeep dealer. they did a diagnostic eamination of the car and determined that the car's tipm computer had failed internally and was no longer supplying power to the airbags and that the air bags would not function. they said i needed a new tipm and quoted me a price of about $1,400. i did a quick google search and discovered other people had also experienced early tipm computer failures. failure of tipm is a safety issue if it disables the air bag system as has happened on my jeep.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. while driving various speeds, the occupant restraint control light illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure was persistent. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring was failing and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v288000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 701,168.
The airbag light came on and the left steering wheel controls quit working, later all steering wheel controls quit working. i researched and found a previous recall for the clock spring which was up until models manufactured in november 2011. called the dealership and was told there was no recall on my vehicle. mine is a right hand drive manufactured in march 2012. it is a safety issue and should be recalled. it happened out of warranty.
Takata recall; i got into car accident and airbags didn't deploy. car was a total lost. i think i had takata air bags.
Vehicle built june 2012 rhd postal vehicle and clock spring is gone. thus air bag light is on and constant chimes. vehicle used to deliver mail. safety concern as with this clock spring going on and off air bag may not deploy. chrysler is aware of problem and has recall of rhd vehicles built only til october 11, 2011 number recall is m31!!! same part as was used prior to oct,11, 2012 !! what gives they should replace all until they change part design. *tr
Clockspirng failure
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. the vin tool confirms parts not available.
I took my vehicle to my dealer, and i was told the clock spring needed to be replaced. it cost me nearly $500 to do this. eleven months later, it failed and needed to be replaced again. i have receipts from the dealership for both of these situations. i use this vehicle to deliver mail for the us postal service. coworkers that have right hand drive jeep wranglers have been included in the recall to replace this part without charge to them. although my vehicle is a left hand drive, i have exactly the same part of my vehicle that is failing. i maintain that i absolutely should be included in this recall. it is a safety hazard to me to not have a functioning horn on this vehicle, and i should not have to keep paying for this since it is a known defect.
Rear ended another vehicle at a speed of approximately 25 mph. the air bags did not deploy at time of impact or at all. noticed that the rear windshield wipers did not work as well as the automatic door locks. apparently this is a electrical issue that could have caused some serious injuries. *tr
I have 20,000 miles on my jeep. when driving, every 20-30 miles, the air bag warning light accompanied by a warning "ding" comes on. i am past my warranty by 10 days. i have read on line where there is a recall nhtsa campaign id number : 13v176000 for this same problem, but it is only for right hand drive vehicles. this is the same problem and the same defective part as on the left hand drive vehicles. the affected vehicles have airbag clockspring assemblies that could experience broken airbag circuits. consequence: in the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver-side frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver, increasing the risk of injuries. there needs to be a recall of the left hand drive jeeps too before someone gets killed. *tr
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 13v234000 (power train , steering), 14v631000 (electrical system , visibility), and 16v352000 (air bags) however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
My 2012 jeep jk unlimited (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light started to flash intermit on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many jeep wrangler (lhd) owners 07- present , including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. this is a safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying." *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the front passenger side aig bag warning light illuminated intermittently. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

One morning the controls, horn, & i'm assuming, airbag stopped working (no lights or functionality). just noticed the first time going out for the day. the removable hard top panels where off, and some dew was present in the air earlier that morning.... but it's a jeep. the horn honked from the steering wheel once and then no more. it does still work when locking the doors and such remotely. *tr
My airbag light has been turning on and off as i drive. looked online and see this is not a uncommon problem. the clockspring in the newer jeep wranglers 07 up, seem to go bad with what i feel is not very high mileage. i see a recall on 07 models but not for any years after. why chrysler feels its ok for the airbag to be turning on and off while driving on newer models is alarming to me. if i were to be involved in an accident while it was turned off, or anyone for that matter, i would feel guilty as a major auto corp. knowing that this is a recurring problem. i feel this needs to be handled for the safety of everyone driving, not just the ones in jeeps wrangler. *tr
While driving, and without incident, my airbag indicator light came on and began dinging. it would cut off, then begin come on again with any turn or slight bump... so basically, my jeep is dinging at me every 30 seconds or so. i contacted my local dealer and was told there were no recalls on my jeep. i took it to my local shop (grayson tire and auto) for tire rotation and oil change. they ran diagnostic and found the fault was with the clock spring and advised me that it should be a warranty item. i did some online research and found that there is a recall for the clock spring (l37/nhtsa11v-528) for 2008-2012 right hand drive models, and that a similar recall for the 2007 models had been extended to include the left hand drive models and the warranty on the clock spring had been extended to 10 years, 150,000 miles. looking at blogs on the internet, there is obviously a problem with the clock spring with jeep vehicles. i even found some documentation that of the 181 complaints that were filed for the initial recall, 82 were in rhd's... so 99 were in lhd's... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, the driver's side air bag inadvertently deployed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that she had left the top down during a rain storm, causing the air bags to deploy. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 22,000.
On or about 10 am on 8-16-13 our air bag light went on and all steering wheel functions quite working. about 20 minutes latter the air bag deployed. the edr system reported that, no airbag went off and there is no recorded event. this from jeeps corporate investigation. the srs module is also fine and has not triggered any event. this leads back to the clock spring and a short that they never even considered at the investigation of the know part that was faulted/failed. *tr
On the 2012 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag and esp warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008+ jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a poorly designed clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failures in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around, as well as hazardous, and potentially fatal esp inputs that can cause the jeep to strike into other vehicles and/or objects on the road, and potential roll-overs. also, in the case of steering gear box failures, the clockspring is designed in such a way that it will also take out the clockspring, effectively doubling the cost of any required repairs. daimler chrysler has refused to address the reliability or safety concerns for this issue. *tr
10/17/12- steering column shutters, horn pads loose- dealer retorqued bolts to horn pad and driver's air bag. 1/4/12- brake/steering concern; steering wheel has excessive play, excessive pull to right- dealer checked and adjusted alignment, vehicle steering continued to drift; dealer rotated front tires. 4/14/12- dead battery, vehicle towed to dealer, battery failed midtronics test, dealer replaced battery. 4/16/12- front brakes squealing; dealer scuffed and cleaned pads and rotors. 4/28/12- engine light activated; dealer identified #2 cylinder misfire, dealer re-programmed pcm with new update software per tech service bulletin 18-007-12. 5/31/12- engine light activated again; dealer identified low compression cylinder #2 misfire, exhaust valves leaking, replaced left cylinder head per star case #327244. rental vehicle 2 days. 6/15/12- engine light activated again, steering pulls to right again; dealer identified bank 2 camshaft slow response, replaced both exhaust camshaft phasers, dealer rotated tires. rental vehicle 2 days. *tr
