My jeep started to shake violently after driving over some small bumps on the highway while driving 60-65 mph. i had to pull my car over. i thought i blew a tire, but i did not. i drove off without the vehicle shaking after i waited a few minutes. unfortunately, it happened again in the same day when i drove over a rough patch on the highway traveling the same speed. i pulled over again and waited before driving off. i did some research and learned this is a know safety problem with jeeps called a "death wobble". i made an appointment to have my jeep looked at on 2-4-2020, however the service garage had to cancel my appointment due to their internet being down. i have rescheduled for 2-7-2020. if the service does not correct the problem, what am i to do? thank you, [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Unable to disable siriusxm travel link weather alerts. they block the whole screen and distract the driver because they force them to make a response. some manufacturers with xm allow alerts to be disabled, but fca doesn't. these alerts are often irrelevant- i've seen some for areas over 100 miles away. i've researched this online, and found that it is a very common safety complaint for fca vehicle owners.
Bad frame welds all over the frame. porosity, missing sections of weld, pinholes, excessive scatter, protective paint chipping.
After replacing battery (2 x) and having all battery cables thoroughly cleaned car will occasionally not start from parked position. alternator and starter all pass tests as ok. turns out win wireless module is faulty and needs to be replaced.
When looking at the vehicle on a car hoist, unsatisfactory welds on the chassis were identified. the welds occurred at various locations and included defects such as excessive porosity, excessive weld spatter, and off location of the original weld and touch up welds. i am not a certified weld inspector, however i am a state certified welder, and federally licensed aircraft mechanic. i have been taught to identify weld defects, and understand effects they have on structural strength. for being a robotically welded frame i found the quality of some welds unacceptable, and should not have passed quality control at the factory. i am not an automotive engineer, nor am i a structural engineer, however i assume that the structural strength of the frame in this state is less of the original design strength. this issue should be dealt with before something bad happens.
Failure to start, randomly when vehicle is stationary. visible pertaining component parts such as battery, ignition switch, starter and voltage all in good order. after 30 minute waiting period car will start. steering wheel movement when exiting vehicle appears to trigger problem, quite often. has occurred 8 times in 4 months. dealer showed no error codes.
While driving on the highway on the carpool lane, going at a speed of about 70 mph, i drove over a pothole/road imperfection and the jeep began shaking severely to a point of almost losing control or causing an accident. during the shaking the wheels swerve side to side and causes the jeep to become jumpy and rattle. in order to safely stop the shaking and not lose control i had to slow down until coming to a complete stop on the carpool lane, i could not pull over due to no shoulder. the cars behind saw the shaking and slowed to keep a safe distance, however if they hadn't it could've caused an accident. during the shaking i also have to grab tightly to the steering wheel so as to not veer on to vehicles or walls next to me. i managed to get out of the carpool lane and made my way to the farthest right lane and drove no faster than 60 mph for fear of the shaking/losing control to reoccur.
Heater core clogged. heater blows warm on passenger side, working across dash heat hets colder as it comes across to drivers side, driver side blows extremely cold. defrost blows cold. from what i've read in jeep forums thousands of jeep owners are having this same issue. heater core is getting clogged and affecting the heat output of jeep. our jeep has roughly 112000 miles on and we have been having this problem since the jeep has had around 50000 miles. jeep would not cover under warranty because we were over 36000 miles. i have blew out heater core flushing it. that helps alittle bit but heat is still no were as hot as it should be. replacing heater core involves pulling entire dash out or cutting dash supports to remove heater core to replace just to have new heater core clog again. something in system is causing heater cores in these jeeps to clogg ultimately causing heat and defrost not to work and blow cold air.
Recently while driving on the freeway at speeds ranging from 60 and above, we have experienced severe shaking on the 2016 jeep wrangler sahara unlimited that causes us to pull over and come to a stop while still on the highway. shaking has occurred on november 24th, 2019 after driving over potholes/road joints on the freeway; and again, on december 26, 2019 on a straight surface on the freeway. one has to hold on tight to the steering wheel so as to keep from veering out of control and onto another vehicle/road separator because the jeep's tires begin to swerve side to side rapidly. the swerving tires causes the jeep to rattle and become jumpy. the severe shaking also feels as if a tire is coming off and will break down then and there. slowing one's speed and slowly pressing on the break helps slow and eventually stop the shaking once completely stopped. i do not feel safe driving the jeep and must be extra attentive at all times now for fear of losing control. the root of the problem is unknown.
Once i hit a speed of 70mph on the highway and if i hit the slightest bump, my entire jeep starts to shake violently. if i keep my foot on the gas at my steady speed, it just gets worse. the only thing i can do is take my foot off the gas, hold on for dear life, and hope i don't crash bc at that point i have no control. i cannot merge into other lanes to try to make it off the highway for safety and i can't do anything accept wait for the violent shaking to stop. also to hope all vehicles surrounding me that are going high speeds are paying attention since my speed drastically changes and they don't crash into me. i have two toddlers and they scream and their heads are jolted from side to side in their car seats as i wait for it to stop. this happens almost, if not all, any time i go above 70 miles an hour and there is a bump in the road. it has not been one time only. i no longer can drive my brand new jeep wrangler on the highway ...
