Problems with 2016 Jeep Renegade VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

On average, the 2016 Jeep Renegade starts to “feel” problems with the VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and its various aspects after 15 188 miles.

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2016 Jeep Renegade

On two occassions while the vehicle was in drive operating on a two lane highway and remained in the drive position with the vehicle in motion the transmission indicator on the display shifted to neutral and the rpms revved without the accelerator pressed and the engine cut off. no codes or check engine lights indicated. the shifter remained in the drive position. the car had to be guided off the roadway and placed into park to be restarted. vehicle was slow to restart both times. both incidents occurred after entering a highway into the flow of traffic and accelerating and presented a danger to all drivers.

A few months after purchase all the lights on my dashboard and headlights constantly flicker, they get really bright and then they dim down, the acceleration does not work if i slowdown to 5 miles per hour or less, it stalls until i come to a complete stop. my emergency break, seat belt and airbag maintenance lights go off at random times when i first start my car, the dealership cannot duplicate the acceleration issue, and they are not seeing error codes for the airbags, seat belt and emergency break but they have attempted to repair the dashboard lights at least 3-4 times with no permanent solution.

I have seen a recall for the 2017 jeep renegade where the engine is stalling. this is an issue with the 2016 and 2015 as well. i have a 2016 and mine has stalled numerous times, but today it almost got me and others on the road, killed. i was turning onto a roadway and it stalled to a stop in the middle of the road. i have talked with other local renegade owners that all have the same issue. why aren't the other, previous years included in on the recall since we all have this issue? i have made my family aware of this issue, so if anything happens to me while driving, they know where to go, legally. i am so disappointed, because this was supposed to be my safe fix over my vw beetle convertible - i felt safe in that over this vehicle. i am now stuck with a car that i am frightened to drive and will most likely need a repair for a known issue, but i will get to foot the bill. i have just scheduled a diagnostic test with a dealership, just to be reimbursed when the recall is issued.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. the contact stated that the vehicle did not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. contact stated it feels lika a loss of power, is happening on a consistent basis. the vehicle was taken to moore chrysler jeep fiat (8600 w bell rd, peoria, az 85382), but they stated there is no problem detected after 2 visits for the same issue. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 11,165. *tt*jb

This car is eventually going to kill someone. the accelerator chooses when to work. my car has 35000 miles on it and when i am turning or on the highway or just driving normally, pressing down on the accelerator it has a two to three second delay before it will engage. the dealerships won't help me and it has almost caused me to get into numerous accidents with my three year old son in the car! many people are having the same issue. also as of today i am having to replace the radiator fan for the third time. it has burned up twice before! how unfair to buy a new car and have to have these outrageous expenses and safety issues!!! this has to be fixed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. while driving various speeds on different occasions, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated. the contact stated that the brake pedal needed to be depressed firmly to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to arrigo dodge chrysler jeep ram west palm beach (6500 okeechobee blvd, west palm beach, fl 33411, (561) 257-5198) and test driven, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 19,000. the consumer stated the vehicle intermittently stopped responding to the releasing of the gas pedal. *js *tr *js *js *js

When driving i slow to make a turn, when trying to accelerate during the turn the engine will not respond to the gas pedal being pressed and the traction control light flickers on the dashboard. has happened at numerous speeds when turning. i get stuck in the middle of a turn with traffic coming at me. i have had the vehicle to the dealer twice now and they keep telling me nothing is wrong with it. very serious safety issue. vehicle has 7,100 miles on it.

While driving my 2016 jeep renegade trailhawk on a city street it began accelerating rapidly on its own. i began engaging the brakes to try to slow the vehicle initially and the engine continued to the point of redline. i attempted to shift the car into neutral but the command center kept overriding my input; i was finally able to jam the car into neutral by slamming the palm of my hand into the shifter driving forcing the neutral shift. i was able to pull off to the should of the road where the car continued running at redline for several minutes while i attempted to stomp on the accelerator hoping to get the vehicle to disengage. due to the electronic controls you cannot turn the car off while in neutral and the engine running at such high rpms. after roughly 10 attempts at stomping on the accelerator hoping to get the vehicle to respond it dropped to a standard idle. only being a short distance from my neighborhood at the time of incident i limped the car back home. during that time the traction control light began flashing, the battery light came on, the temp sensor spiked to max temp, the oil pressure warning light came on and the a/c began to blow hot and the engine light came on. upon safely pulling in my driveway it smelled of a hot burning rubber/oil smell and there was some type of fluid leaking from the car that appeared to be the synthetic oil.

2016 jeep renegade trailhawk loss of power accelerating from a stopped position, turning/merging into traffic form a slowed/stopped position, vehicle stopping up hill. 13,200 miles the 'check engine' light on, engine powered down twice when pulling out from a stop & turning left w/ slight incline, once going straight across a 2-lane hwy, & engine powering down when merging. dealership said due to an update needed. two wks after the update, engine powers down making a right turn form a stop sign. dealership couldn't replicate & told to drive careful. a few wks later, i was stopped at a stop sign. i made a left-hand turn w/ an incline. as i started accelerating, the renegade suddenly lost speed & ceased to move as i was pressing the gas petal. those few seconds of pulling out w/ oncoming traffic could quickly lead to a wreck when you lose power in the middle of the road. i felt a great deal of panic, distrust of my renegade. i feared for my safety. i take the renegade back to the shop no real resolve. i was driving up a steep hill at which time my renegade completely stopped as i was nearing the top of the hill. as you can imagine, this was terrifying to say the least! when the renegade stopped, i was fortunate enough to not have anyone following behind me. however, due to the angle & steepness of the hill, i was panicked the renegade would roll down. i never put my foot on the break & continued to pump the gas. after about 5 pumps on the gas, the renegade began to slowly accelerate. i was going at a rate of speed of around 30mph, 1/4 of tank of gas, & driving for about 10 mins before incident. chrysler isn't taking this issue seriously. i have been in contact w/ them on a corp. level as well. the renegade has had 3 more incidents of losing power when accelerating in a turn from a stop. i fear for my life & am stuck w/ an untrustworthy new vehicle.

Within a few weeks into purchasing the new 2016 jeep renegade vehicle in december 2016, and intermittently since then, we have had "dead peddling" issues, example: we are stopped at a stop light to turn right, traffic clears with enough clearance to allow a safe acceleration to turn right and enter with the flow of traffic, however, when the gas peddle is mashed to go forward, nothing happens, sometimes for a few moments, and then the car moves forward at the, now, wrong moment, when it is unsafe to turn right, since traffic has caught up and the gap to enter the flow of traffic is no longer a safe distance from oncoming traffic, causing me to have to hit the brakes. also, accelerating onto the highway from an exit/entrance to enter the highway (going 25-35 mph from the on ramp, when entering onto a 65 mph highway), pressing harder on the gas peddle to attempt to achieve a higher speed to move onto the highway with the flow of traffic, is delayed or doesn't happen at all unless we let off the gas and press again, sometimes multiple times, and the vehicle is still traveling at an unsafe slower speed than the flow of highway traffic going 65+mph. these issues happen randomly both when the vehicle is at a complete stop, and at a lower speed when we want to speed up. we have no issues braking or slowing down. another safety flaw is the vehicle does not shift gears when needed, it will "red-line" occasionally before shifting when attempting to speed up. all of our issues have happened both on the highway and in the city. we have almost been hit or rear ended by a semi-truck or other vehicles due to these flaws. every time we bring it to the dealership with these complaints, or for normal oil changes, we have mentioned these issues and they have been documented as such, however, the dealership doesn't have fixes for the issues, as they can't duplicate the issue.

The vehicle has a 3 second delay when stepping on the gas pedal before it actually executes on downshifting and accelerating the vehicle. the vehicle has an automatic transmission. the delay is only when the vehicle is in motion stepping on the gas pedal from 0 mph will not reproduce the issue. i addressed the issue with jeep they performed a firmware update then stated they were unable to reproduce the issue however i do not believe they actually tested driving the car. the vehicle used to have the same issue from stationary until the jeep dealership performed a firmware update on the vehicle now the delay is only when the vehicle is in motion. this is how it goes: when i step on gas pedal @1 mississippi - nothing happens @2 mississippi - nothing happens @3 - i hear the car rpms increase - @mississippi - transmission responds and vehicle executes accelerate function. this happens every time with out failure that the gas pedal is pressed all the way to the floor "pedal to the metal" so to speak when the vehicle is in motion.

Loss of acceleration/power when turning right or left on dry surfaces. traction control module comes on when this happens. instrument panel flashes that the back brake lights are out and the right/left hand turn signals not working. happens when starting vehicle and stays on until you shut off car a few times.

Starting around 5,000 miles the car became unreliable and had safety issues. the car would randomly display warning messages. while turning onto a main road, the car shut off but turned back on right away. car had acceleration issues, merging into highway, semis would honk and almost hit me. took up to 1 min to reach 70mph. parking brake engaged while driving. upon starting the vehicle and trying to reverse, it would display a warning to place vehicle in park before shifting gears and would not reverse until i placed in park and turned the car off/on again. often the car wouldn't shut off, or would take between 5min-4 hours to turn back on. messages that would display while driving include "service air bags" "service electronic parking brake" "service brake system" service power steering." "dynamic steering torque service" sometimes the messages would display for hours on end, and the car wouldn't turn off and the battery would die. key fob not detected displayed while driving on city streets and highway.

My traction control light will start blinking and cut my acceleration, while turning left sporadically whether at a complete stop or still moving and normally just on dry asphalt. i have had the vehicle into the dealership 3 times. the first time was for 2 days, and they said there was an update, this didn't fix the issue. the next time was 1 week later for 5 days where they drove my vehicle and advised they could only produce this incident once, and said the problem was with the abs software having the wrong download.the dealership also advised that the vehicle did not know there was a problem because there was no error code in the computer. the 3rd time was 2 days after i picked up, and the vehicle was kept for 7 days, where they drove my car all week and were not able to replicate. after having the vehicle back for 4 days it started up again, and now does it almost every day. the dealership advised there is nothing they can do, and jeep/chrysler were not helpful either. i have noticed now when i have another person in the front seat that the traction control will start blinking and cut the acceleration going right. i have also noticed that you have to be around 20 mph or higher around a curve for this to happen when you are not at a complete stop.

On 3 or 4 occasions while driving my jeep renegade latitude 4 x 4 9 speed less than 2,000 miles. in dry conditions my jeeps anti traction light will come on the dash, and i lose all power for 5-10 seconds. it stops, no gas . it doesnt shut off, it loses all power. last time i was approaching a red light and slowing down, the lights changed to green, i turned on my blinker to turn left going less than 10 miles an hour and it happened in the middle of the turn with a car behind me my jeep stopped in the middle of the street dead for 5-10 seconds. i thought i would be rear ended since it was abrupt.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled and lost power intermittently after the accelerator pedal was depressed. the traction control warning indicator also illuminated. the failure occurred approximately twelve times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as having an engineering software failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

My traction control light will start blinking and cut my acceleration, while turning left whether at a complete stop or still moving and normally just on dry asphalt. i have had the vehicle into the dealership 2 times. the first time was for 1 day, and they said there was an update, this didn't fix the issue. the next time was 1 week later and they advised that it was a computer issue and will not be able to fix the issue until the beginning of the year in 2017.

Vibrating/rumbling noise through gas pedal and rear differential between 29-34 mph while using cruise/not using cruise/letting off gas pedal slowly; dealership claims its the high gearing, its normal, we cant replicate, chrysler rep states the same thing, yet i take the service mgr for a ride and theres the noise, take service mgr for a ride in another renegade and theres the noise, supposedly they will work on figuring out whats the issue on the other renegade and then deal with mine. digital speedometer fluctuates between +/-1 mph upon setting cruise on level elevation, setting cruise speedometer in center display will read 69 mph but upper right speedometer display reflects 70 mph and only time they ever are the same is when your going downhill, chrysler rep at wi dealership states this is normal and i am calling bullshit, they wont fix it because its within the normal parameters but scientifically it doesnt jive.
