On two occassions while the vehicle was in drive operating on a two lane highway and remained in the drive position with the vehicle in motion the transmission indicator on the display shifted to neutral and the rpms revved without the accelerator pressed and the engine cut off. no codes or check engine lights indicated. the shifter remained in the drive position. the car had to be guided off the roadway and placed into park to be restarted. vehicle was slow to restart both times. both incidents occurred after entering a highway into the flow of traffic and accelerating and presented a danger to all drivers.
While driving, warning light came up "shift vehicle to park" and car essentially goes into neutral. once pulled over, car couldn't be restarted for a few minutes and wouldn't shift out of park. when it finally did shift, the "shift vehicle to park" warning came up again. luckily, this happened on a local road and not a 70mph highway. happened 2 more times when car was started and attempted to shift to d and/or r and car wouldn't shift.

I love my renegade but there has been nothing but problems , first after only having it for a few months buying it dec 2016 new the fuel pump broke and i ran out of gas when it said i had a quarter tank. then the driver seat became stuck forward, i thought i fixed it it was fine now it's stuck back. i have to use a pillow behind me. then at 40,000 miles just about the coolant fan started rattling as if something was loose, then it stopped all together. when i was in traffic i had to blast the heat because the temp gauge would go red. i checked the fuse it was blown so it was changed and still no fan. so i figured it's the coolant fan relay and they aren't easy to locate. auto parts store and jeep parts at the dealership are hard to talk to because it is a fiat part. you would think the 2jeep dealerships that sell them would know that. now i see that a ton of people are having the same issue and needed the full fan assemble replaced and a new thermostat..i do not have money ...

'takata recall' cooling fan went out in december 2017 received vehicle back 2018. heard noises from vehicle took it back and they say the brakes & rotors need to be replace (how when it was with you all for two months). now it's october 2018, thermostat is going out. why wasn't this caught at the time of the replacement of the cooling fan. then the seat belt mysteriously have a cut or something in it and they don't cover it so it will be an out of pocket fee. it's unsafe to have a thermostat going out as well as a seat that has a cut/splitting.
Power transmission in july of 2018 in rush hour in las vegas (5pm-5:30pm) while vehicle was in motion and foot was on the accelerator the 2016 jeep renegade powered off & shut down. had to turn off the vehicle and restart for the vehicle to start up again. this happened on a very busy street road. in august of 2018 in rush hour in las vegas (4:30pm-5:30pm) while vehicle was in motion and foot was on the accelerator the 2016 jeep renegade powered off & shut down. had to turn off the vehicle and restart for the vehicle to start up again. this occurred on a slightly busy street road. this happened twice. both times i was very lucky i wasn't killed with oncoming traffic. car was examined at and it was determined that the transmission was at fault and needed to be changed. this process took a month. i was reluctantly given a loaner car with a few case managers saying it was a favor of chrysler to be allowing me to have this loaner car. not understanding how dangerous this car was. how my life was at stake. ...

I found a serious safety concern with jeep renegades like mine. like many owners, i bought a jeep to be safe in the snow. i no longer feel safe. i had a minor smog fault (evap) and while driving, the check engine light came on. as soon as the light is on, the four wheel drive will not engage. this left me stranded on a snowy day with no four wheel drive for an irrelevant problem. this is the case for all jeep renegades and possibly other fiat made models. it is not satisfactory. this behavior of four wheel drive being cut out is, i found, well documented on various internet user groups. i would prefer if they reprogram my vehicle so the four wheel drive stays available no matter what.
