Problems with 2008 Jeep Liberty TIRES

The day, july 10, 2014, started out with my wife, granddaughter and me going to the grocery store in my 2008 jeep liberty. we were back by noon, had some lunch and about 1:30pm put granddaughter down for a nap. about 2:00pm wife needed to go into town for an errand. she backed the jeep out of our driveway and continued down the road going about 15 mph. the front passenger tire blows (4 tires on the vehicle bought approx. 14 months prior to the incident - goodyear p225/75r16 wrangler st 104s) and the side airbags deployed. vehicle did not hit anything nor was it hit by anything. wife did sustain a slight red bruise on her left cheek. good thing it did not happen with all of us in the vehicle or going 65 mph on the highway. i called chrysler customer service. chrysler group llc conducted an investigation into the incident and inspected the jeep. the inspection found no indication of a manufacturing defect that caused or contributed to the incident. hard to believe that a front tire blows and side airbags deployed at 15 mph. jeep is supposed to be a rugged off-road vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. while parked, the contact noticed the tire pressure light was illuminated. the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the front passenger side aluminum tire pressure sensor was corroded. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician replaced the front passenger side tire pressure sensor with one that was made of rubber. the contact noticed the front and rear driver side and rear passenger side tire pressure sensors were also corroded. the vehicle was not further repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 34,343. updated 11/01/11*lj the consumer stated the valve stems were poorly designed. updated 12/16/11

While checking tire pressure tpms broke - filed by jiffy lube. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that tpms valves were fractured from the front and rear driver side tires, causing the tires to abnormally lose pressure. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that he needed to replace the valves. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

2008 jeep liberty. consumer states tire pressure monitor system is not working correctly. *tgw the consumer stated the tire valves failed twice. the first valve was replaced reluctantly and he was told that the second valve would not be replaced under warranty because it was cracked. the consumer stated he was unable to inflate the tire. *jb

The first tire inflation valve stem and sending unit assembly failed resulting in dashboard alert and inability to inflate or check tire pressure as the unit was broken. at first the dealer refused to replace under warranty but subsequently did replace it under warranty at a later date. the problem once again happened on a second tire this time out of warranty. the dealer service manager explained that the problem is due to the valve assembly being constructed of dissimilar metals causing premature corrosion and stem failure. since the vehicle was now out of warranty the dealer offered to fix this problem once and for all by replacing the valve stem on all four tires with common rubber stems without the sending units. the offered fix would obviously disable the tire pressure warning system but would "fix" the broken stem assembly problem. the dealer indicated this would be done as this was a common, frustrating, expensive known problem with this vehicle. *tr

Bought brand new car last year jeep liberty with good year tires. within 15,000 the tire is defected. good year could not tell me what was wrong with the tire and neither could firestone for another opinion said that it was not able to be fixed and had to spend $180 to get a new tire. goodyear would not replace the tire or do anything because of their warranty policy. 15,000 miles on a tire is not warranted enough. *tr
