Lower ball joint broke from corrosion. this is recalled on 02-06 models but not 07. however, my jeep was manufactured in 2006. i was pulling into my driveway and felt something break below me. as i pulled further in i felt a grinding noise. had i been driving faster i would have wrecked my car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 55 mph uphill, there was a loss of power and vehicle control. when the brake pedal was depressed, the suspension failed to function and the rear of the vehicle swayed excessively. the vehicle crashed into a guardrail. the contact stated that the front driver's side bumper, headlight, and rear quarter panel were damaged. none of the air bags deployed. there were no injuries. a police report was not filed; however, a highway patrol agent inspected the vehicle. the insurance company was notified. the contact was later notified of nhtsa campaign number: 18v278000 (suspension). autostar chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat of waynesville (280 hyatt creek rd, waynesville, nc 28786, (828) 452-2841) was contacted. the insurance company had not yet inspected the vehicle. the cause of the failure had not been determined. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 105,523. dyd

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v278000 (suspension). shottenkirk chrysler dodge jeep ram of canton (located at 200 liberty blvd, canton, ga 30114, (470) 863-2403) stated that the part was not available. the contact felt that the dealer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

I contacted south point dodge in austin, tx 2 months ago about replacing the rear control arms due to a recall. they scheduled an appointment for them to replace the part. when i arrived, they told me no one had ordered the part and that they could not provide service. i confirmed with the manager that they would order the part and call me back when they could replace it. i have not heard back in 2 months. i called today and they have not ordered the part. i asked them again to order the part, but now they are on backorder. i am concerned the rear control arm will fail while i am driving. i have done everything i can to get it replaced, but the dealership is not putting any importance on the recall. here is their contact information: 5210 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745 (512) 443-9333

A scrubbing/squeaking noise started on the left front tire of my 2007 jeep liberty. i took the car to my mechanic and it was diagnosed as being the control arms on the front of the vehicle. then the recall came out for the rear control arms. i took the car into the dealership to have the rear repaired and was also told by the dealership that the front needed to be replaced. while leaving my car for repair another liberty came in with the left front wheel assembly separated from the car. the control arm had fractured/broke. if faulty parts were used on the rear it would seem that the same manufacturer would be used to supply the front parts. the dealership also explained that they had several of the same model come in with the front control arm problems

I took our vehicle to crown dodge, ventura ca. to satisfy the trailer hitch recall. i also wanted to satisfy nhtsa recall #18v-278 (rear lower control arms). the parts weren't available at the time and i was told they would contact me within 2 weeks to reschedule the repair. they never contacted me. we have moved since and there are no dealers near me to conduct the safety repair. how can i get this repair completed without having to drive too far? the vehicle may not be safe to drive. please advise.

Tl* the contact owned a 2007 jeep liberty. while driving 10 mph, the rack and pinion bolt fractured. as a result, the suspension and front driver side wheel separated and became stuck in the wheel well. the contact lost control of the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed destroyed. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 299,999. the vin was not available.

Driving down the highway and suddenly i had little steering control and it felt like i blew a tire. pulled to the side of the highway, and saw that my tire was blown and my rim was damaged because the ball joint snapped and the control arm went through the rim. this was on the front drivers side and happeneded about 3 months ago. a similar thing happened today but it affected the front passenger side.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while driving 35 mph, the entire front passenger side control arm fractured. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (pars cars, located at 6823 mt zion blvd, morrow, ga 30260; (770) 357-6000) who stated that the frame was bent and nothing could be done. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

Was in a parking lot backing up and the ball joint broke in half. had just been going down the highway @55 mph.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while driving 15 mph, the front wheels seized and a loud thud noise was heard without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front passenger side ball joint fractured and needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the local dealer (mitchell chrysler dodge jeep us highway 45 alternate, west point, ms 39773) stated that the vin was not included in any recalls. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 192,607.

While backing out of a parking spot, (literally moved maybe 2 inches) the lower front control arm and ball joint on the passenger side broke suddenly. from what i have found during my research there have been a number of issues with this same part failing within the last year. more so, there was a recall of the rear control arm/ball joint and the front was recalled on the 2005 models in 2006. there is clearly an issue with the control arms in 2005-2007 liberty models. it is my belief that the front control arms should be recalled. the failing part appears to have caused damage to the tire as well as the tire appears to have been leaning inward and rubbing along something along the interior, underside of the wheel well. it is a good thing that the vehicle was not traveling at any significant rate of speed or there could have been significant damage or death.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while driving 5 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from the front of the vehicle without warning. the contact was able to safely stop the vehicle. upon inspection, the contact noticed that the front passenger side wheel separated from the lower ball joint. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the contact was informed that the lower ball joint fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while operating the vehicle, the front driver side control arm disengaged from the balls joints and caused the suspension to fail. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was due to faulty ball joints. the vehicle was repaired. prior to the failure, while driving over bumps in the road, a loud banging noise was present coming from the front driver's side of the vehicle. the contact heard a bumping noise coming from the passenger side. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 75,000.

Rear upper control arm is all rusted creating safety hazard. jeep has recalled lower control arm on this model but will do nothing for upper arm rust factor. recall valid only for cars in areas where roads heavily salted in winter. we are in north east. service looked at it 1/6/16.

I've been aware of an issue with my front lower ball joints for several months now but today, i made a right turn today and the ball joint broke altogether. i've been doing some research when it comes recalls of this nature and i know 2006 jeep liberty's have/had a recall in place for this very issue. i'm wondering if the recall should be expanded to include the 2007 model year as well?

Front lower ball joints were bad...started making very bad creaking noises...had to be replaced.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the front passenger side tire separated from the ball joint while driving 60 mph. the vehicle was towed to the local mechanic for further inspection. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 220,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 12v085000 (suspension) and 13v252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure); however, the parts to do the repairs were not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Right front of 2007 jeep liberty fell to the ground just after moving forward in a parking lot. wheel bent out and all fluids released to the ground. if this had happened a few minutes later would have been driving on the interstate at approximately 65 mph. the vehicle would not move when pushed, so most likely at that speed it would have flipped over carrying a mother and child. jeep had recalls for this problem through 2005. there are many complaints on this exact issue on the 2007. jeep refused to assist in any way. the manager stated that it was not under warranty. parts needed for repair: control arm, ball joint and wheel which was cracked when the incident occurred. 1231.00. jeep needs to step up and cover/reimburse for safety issues that are known issues on their vehicles. no good faith for safety from jeep. recall these parts before people get killed. *tr

My 2007 jeep liberty was parked over night and when i started to drive away i felt the car resisting. after an inspection i realized that my front passenger tire was tipped inward .had a wrecker take it to my auto dealer where it was determined to be the upper control arms. had to replace these and have an alignment. i only have 52658 miles on the vehicle. i am the only owner and have maintained it very well. i do not do off road driving . the only thing is that it is exposed to a lot of salt. i feel the recall on the rear suspension #91164 should also cover the front. had i been driving on the highway when this happened i could have been seriously injured or killed.i have reported this incident to daimler chrysler. *tr

I manage an emissions testing business a woman came in with a 2007 jeep liberty for a smog check. during the asm test, where i have to drive the car on the dynamometer, it hops off the dyno, going through the precautions i take for a rear-wheel drive vehicle(placing a shock in front of the front wheels), and crashes into the wall, damaging myself and $5,000 worth of equipment. also, the car kept on accelerating into the wall, even when pushing on the brakes as hard i could so that's when i shifted it into park and engaged the handbrake. obviously, this car has some major problems with it. at first, i looked online and the year and model had numerous recalls on it, including the rear suspension, and brakes locking up, which i believed had happened in my case. (http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2007/jeep/liberty/recalls/), but after contacting the dealership, they told me that there wasn't any major recalls issued on it, which is why im filing this complaint after smogging hundreds of cars, this has never happened to me until that day. *tr

While driving to my daughter's school on 08/08, i heard a loud pop while turning onto a major secondary road. the front end on passenger side dropped on the tire and i lost control of the vehicle (the steering wheel got shaky and wobbly) and i was fighting to maintain control of the vehicle which almost cost me to flip over. i was able to bring the vehicle to a stop in the medium. in accessing the damage, my front tire is partially flat, my front end bumper is laying heavily on the wheel on the right side which is causing the truck to lean. the vehicle was towed to my home where the tow truck driver assess the ball joint on the right side had dismantled. i'm aware there is no recall for this year but from the previous years, there has been recalls for the same problem experienced by other jeep drivers. i implore you to investigate this problem because i almost lost my life on yesterday and could had possibly hurt others in the process. i quite sure chrysler inc has been receiving complaints about this but has failed to help consumers. because of this, i'm without a vehicle and have to find other means of transportation. please investigate this before some one loses his or her life behind this defect. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced by the dealer, it was found that the upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, she crashed into two parked cars. the police reported to the scene and a report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic for diagnosis. the mechanic stated that the front passenger's side control arm was fractured. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated the dealer did not service the vehicle per nhtsa campaign i.d. 12v085000 (suspension) within a reasonable time. the dealer advised the contact to reschedule an appointment for recall service. the contact did not reschedule. the contact had not experienced a failure.

I had the 2012 lower control arm recall repair done, now i had corroded upper arm repair needed but chrysler will not assist with the cost of repair even though its the same type of problem in the same area as the recall. also, i now have to get the entire rear end suspension replaced. jeep clearly needs to recall these vehicles or assist us somehow in states that use road salt, as they have sold us subpar vehicles with huge safety issues. *tr

The front lower ball joint separated in the main of the street while driving. i took it to the authorized dealer in san juan pr. i am still waiting information related to this incident. i read that liberty 2002 - 2006 had a ball joint recall. i don't see liberty 2007 included in the recall. i highly recommended to investigate this case. *tr

The vehicle left the bottom ball joint front driver side. because of this split the wheel and tire. they stride the direction and lost control of the vehicle. the service dealer in puerto rico informs me that the vehicle has no recalls and it is out of warranty, but usa has passed this same incident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that after receiving a nhtsa campaign i.d. number 12v085000 (rear suspension lower control arm) the contact called the dealer to remedy the component. the dealer stated that the parts were not available and they would call the contact when the part came in. three months after receiving the recall notice the vehicle still had not been remedied and the parts were still not available. the failure mileage was 84,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact received the recall noticed associated with nhtsa campaign id number 12v085000 (suspension:rear). an authorized dealer was notified and stated that the necessary parts were not available to perform the repairs. the contact also stated that she had attempted to have the vehicle repaired for two weeks. the vehicle was not repaired.

I was driving to work on the 101 (a major l.a. freeway) and all of the sudden felt my car collapse onto the passenger tire. i struggled to remain in my line, and had tremendous difficulty steering and wasn't able to brake as easily. i flew across three lanes of rush hour traffic and almost hit a wall. when i exited my vehicle i found that my lower ball joint had broken, causing my tire to explode. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while driving 65 mph during rainy conditions, the rear end of the vehicle suddenly started to veer into two lanes. the contact released the accelerator pedal, engaged the brakes and eventually was able to regain control on the vehicle. he continued to drive to his destination; however, he is concerned about the rear axle defect and safety risk. the failure has not been diagnosed by a mechanic or dealer. the current and failure mileages were 35,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. while the contact's son was driving 30 mph, he suddenly lost control of the vehicle. he drive onto a curb and crashed into a wall. there were no injuries and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the dealer stated that the failure was due to driver error. through internet research, the contact discovered two recalls that may pertain to the failure (nhtsa campaign id numbers 06v493000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module ) and 06v341000 (power train:automatic transmission). he took this information back to the dealer and they informed him to call nhtsa and file a complaint. the failure mileage was 6,193 and current mileage was 7,055. updated 7/3/08 *cn the consumers son was driving, when all of a sudden, the right front tire blew out. the dealer replaced the lower control arm, steering knuckle, ball joints and the inner and outer tie rod ends. updated 07/03/08

I was driving along in my 2007 jeep liberty at 34 m.p.h. when all of a sudden there was a horrible noise and the right side of my car fell to the ground. i tried to steer safely off the road and found the car almost impossible to steer and i was heading into on-coming traffic. i could have been injured or killed and i had two passengers in my car who witnessed the sudden failure of my brand new 8 month old car! it appears that my lower right ball joint fell out and broke my car to the point my tire came off my rim as my rim broke when the car fell to the ground. there is so much front end damage that my car is now totaled and i am out a new vehicle. the local dealer will not acknowledge there is a problem as they say the 2007 was not part of the massive recall on other liberty's with the same problem. i've asked my insurance company for an investigation and i've e-mailed the jeep corporation with the same request, before someone else gets hurt or worse! someone needs to step up here and investigate these cars, they are not safe and now i'm left with no car and trying to settle with my insurance company. i'm just glad that i was not on the highway, as my car is totaled from 34 m.p.h., i can't imagine what would have happened had i been on the highway. i'm also thankful my daughter was not in the car at the time - please help get these cars off the road!! *tr

Beware if you or yours is driving a well-maintained jeep liberty. my son could lost control and could have been killed if he was traveling at a highway speed in a 2003 jeep liberty when the upper ball joint suspension failed on his vehicle. after a recent recall and replacement of the lower ball joints of my son's 2003 jeep liberty, the upper ball joint which is of similar design and manufacturer broke while driving at 25 mph on local road on passenger side causing wheel to detach. per website postings joint is sealed and thus cannot be maintained or lubricated. a chrysler representative said that it stands behind its parts products but refuses to address $900 repair or towing as it is not subject to recall or warranty. vehicle was not used for off-roading or aggressive driving. i have kept the parts. am thankful that son is ok but have received no satisfaction from chrysler or dealer where vehicle has been maintained. owners should be notified so that they can have their vehicles inspected to avert this same failure although recent inspection of lower ball joints that were subject to recall did not prevent the upper ball joint failure in our case. *tr
