We have classified the 14 complaints from 2006 Jeep Liberty about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. while driving 55 mph, the air conditioner emitted hot air. the failure occurred a few times when the air conditioner was activated. the dealer stated that the compressor was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired three previous times according to the manufacturer warranty. the manufacturer was not notified about the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,787.
I purchased my 2006 jeep liberty in may 2011, however i have to windows that just stopped working. the windows just fail completely down without any warning one while i was driving which could have shatter and hurt my passenger. i contacted the chrysler jeep manufacture compliant line but they were no help. i was given a phone number to a dealership and was told i have warranty on the windows that only cover the list plate (if that's the problem) for my back window only. the problem after researching it this morning on the internet is the regulators in the windows which are very costly to repair approx. $260 per window. in this economy i can't afford to repair this and i should not have to because there is some kind of mal-function with the parts inside of the windows. they need to recall these vehicles because owner of them will spend money repairing the same problem at least 3 to 4 times in one year. *tr
I have replaced all four window regulators during the past six months, and i'm starting to have problems with both front windows again, which were the most recently replaced at about two - three months ago (less than 50,000 miles) at the dealership. it seems the original window parts were defective, but the dealership's replacements (that i paid for) are much worse. i fear for the safety of myself, my passengers, my vehicle and my belongings with this ongoing issue. and i am angry about the time and expense it continues to cause. the form wouldn't let me complete with the correct required information, but limited my choices to those that did not apply.....fyi *tr
Vehicles stalls after extended off period. vehicle shudders under normal driving conditions. chrysler has 2 tsbs to fix this- 21-016-05 and 21-009-06 which calls for replacing a trouble prone torque converter. chrysler has an updated torque converter to fix this problem yet will not take action to fix the vehicle even after numerous attempts since 2006 to get transmission fixed properly. i would like this looked into as myself and numerous other owners of the 2005-2006 jeep liberty with the diesel engine experience the same issue. the truck has stalled after starting on several occasions causing concern for action since i have had my pregnant wife witness this. please look into this. *tr
2006 jeep liberty- window regulator problem. windows crash down into door while driving, startling the driver! this is the third window in the vehicle that has had to be replaced. this is apparently a huge defect (just read the many reviews online) that chrysler won't admit to. *tr

I have a 2006 jeep liberty. the windows have broken three times. they fall into the door and cannot be raised. when this happens, the window is stuck in the full down position and is a great risk as objects can fly into the car...and great risks when parking overnight and the window not being able to be raised. this the third window broken, with one broken twice. the windows get fixed at a dealership at a cost of $100 per window and require me to miss a half to a full day of work depending on the service repair volume. *tr
Jeep liberty window regulator failing multiple times. safety compromised due to potential invasion, climate issues, etc. i've had several windows replaced and they continue to break, now of course the warranty is expired. this is a serious defect that jeep apparently is unwilling to recall to date. *tr
Both rear regulators have quit working, leaving my jeep and myself vulnerable to others being able to easily enter the vehicle. we have replaced one and will be replacing the other next week due to the cost. as if that wasn't enough, the sun roof just quit working and stuck partially open. i hardly ever use it, so it did not break due to use. we took it into the dealership and it will cost $1300.00 dollars to repair, which we cannot afford. also, fuel quite often overflows when fueling, spilling gasoline down the side of my jeep as well as spraying out onto the person fueling. it does not matter how slowly we put the gasoline in, it still overflows. *tr
My 2006 jeep liberty has had the window regulators fail with the window falling back into the door unexpectantly while driving. all four of the regulators have been replaced. the rear drivers side regulator has been replaced twice and now has broken again for a third time. no warning signs are noted prior to the failure. so far it has only happened during good weather. it could cause an accident if it were to happen during inclement conditions. the first two failures were repaired under warranty with the same faulty parts. the last three repairs were performed by myself as the vehicle was out of warranty. jeep has not redesigned the part but only replaces the failed regulator with the poorly designed orriginal equipment. the component which fails each time is a plastic piece which holds the window and connects to the regulator cable. this plastic piece fails even with minimal to no use of the window. the rear windows in my jeep have almost never been rolled down and still fail. i do not have any of the prior failed window regulators but the last failure has not been repaired yet and would be available for inspection. below under the "equipment information" heading and then subcategory "model", i was given several model numbers of which i have no idea so i picked the first one. *tr
Bad actuator on the 2006 jeep liberty windows. this is the 4th time i need to get the window fixed. it has never been corrected. there is a new actuator suppose to be better but have to replace the window also. bad thing about it the window can fall down and it would be unsecured. *tr
2006 jeep liberty power windows fail without warning dropping down inside doors due to faulty window regulators. i am currently having my 5th one replaced and jeep has known of this issue 1000's have complained and jeep has done nothing but take customers money to repair a known defect. just a simple search of the web will find thousands of customers with the same problem. *tr
I was driving on 295 in baltimore, md during rush hour when my driver's side rear window started to fall. this is the 6th time i have had a regulator problem, second time for this window. i almost hit the car in front of my because it caught me off guard. i went to the dealership and sure enough its the regulator except this time they aren't just replacing the regulator but the glass too. i really wanted another jeep but since i keep having the same problem that isn't going to happen. jeep needs to issue a recall, everyone in the dealership said this is an ongoing problem. if they know it is a problem; they need to do something about it. they need to do something before someone dies from it. it is extremely distracting. it also reduces your visibility when you have to duct tape your window shut. *tr
Replaced 3 windows that would not stay closed (common problem) . went to dealer for an oil change found out that all 5 (or 6) break hoses were about to burst and car was unsafe to drive. no fault of my own but jeep has "no idea" how it happened! kept my car for 4 weeks! now the key gets stuck in the ignition every time i turn off the car! car's a lemon!!! *tr
The window regulators on the jeep liberty keep going out. causing the vehicle to have the window down till fixed making it easy to be stolen, or damaged by the weather. since purchasing the vehicle in 2006 this has occurred 4 times, i have read that is common with the jeep liberty and some people have replaced them 8 times. my husband has replaced the part purchased from the dealer at $75.00, but now he was told that not only is the regulator to be purchased but a new window also. *tr
The windows in my 2006 jeep liberty keep falling down inside the door. i have had this happen to three of the four windows. one window i have had in the repair shop three times (dealership) to fix the same problem. the last time the problem was fixed, but now i can't open the door from the inside, which to me seems like a safety issue. my wife and i were driving back from a trip in the middle of a heavy rain storm when all of a sudden the window fell down inside the door. it started hailing which was a big safety issue for our children riding in the back seat. i am just thankful that what could have been a terrible accident did not happen. the dealership has told me that the problem occurs because of a bad motor inside the door panel. the cheapest i have found to fix this problem is $300 per window. this is ridiculous when the problem keeps occuring!
2006 jeep liberty. i have had the window regulator go out in my car currently 5 different times. i am also certain that my driver window is about to go out again as i have to help lead it when i push the up bottom. i try to use it as little as possible. when the regulators when out the first three times my car was still under warranty so i took it in for repair. now that they have broken two more times, within two weeks, i feel that this is a real issue. what concerns me is the safety of my children who are in the back seat when these break and the glass falls into the door, what if it was to break, what if it was storming outside. it concerns me that one of them could be injured. i am also concerned that when i went online to do some research there are many post regarding this same issue, also a petition put forward with 114 signatures asking for a recall on my vehicle, yet chrysler jeep has yet to do one. i think we need help to get this item recalled, have a better product installed in our cars, and provide a safe form of transportation for our families. thank you for your time. *tr
2006 jeep liberty limited 4x4, all 4 of the windows have had regulator failure causing the windows to fall down into the door. these have all occurred at different times and even without anyone being in the vehicle. one of the recently replaced regulators that had already been repaired once have failed again while my wife was at work. she came out to leave work in the dark and as she went to drive off she noticed a window in the rear was down. she did not put it down it failed and fell on its own while inside of her place of employment again. this is a hazard that would have allowed someone to enter her vehicle and either steal from the vehicle or attack her. so all 4 power windows have failed and now they are starting to fail again. warranty will expire this october and we fear we will be left with constant repairs and she constantly worries about her safety knowing it will most likely happen again. rear gate also had a loud rattling noise coming from it and after it was supposedly fixed by dealer under warranty wife could not get the gate open to load groceries. upon inspection by me i found that the chrysler jeep dealership just wrapped the gate latch striker with electrical tape instead of replacing the defective latch causing the door latch to bind and not open. this vehicle needs to either be recalled or enforce a mandatory tsb on a working revision of new parts. *tr
1. i purchased my jeep liberty crd new in sep 2006. i noticed coming home from work today that it sounded like the rear window driver side was slightly open so i tried to close it and heard a grating noise so i stopped pushing the button. drove home. got out and looked. saw it was down about an inch. tried to raise it. same noise. used my hands and pushed it up. knew something was wrong. got the husband. he pulled off the panel... we saw the orange regulator cord was not attached. then discovered it was not screwed in to the motor on the other end. broken plastic. odometer reading 36150. priceless. 2. this is the first i have had the problem. i live in colorado and no one even sits in the rear seat. yes it gets hot. but i had a 1994 ford explore with over 200k that i signed over to my daughter when she graduated and the windows never died.... 3. appears since it is out of warranty at 36150 i will need to contact the dealer and pay $375 to replace the regulator that is well documented as nonfunctional. *tr
The power window fail the glass going down when you try to up and they repair about 4 times in different doors the last incident was july 15,2008. *tr
Bad window regulators, always breaking. all my window regulators have been replaced, and now i'm working on the 2nd round, and some windows have been replaced twice already in 2 years. *tr the problem is it leaves the car vunerable for left or even damage (depending on the weather) plus it's not safe, if you have small children in the back and the window starts to fall down while you're driving. *tr
Back hatch door doesn't open anymore, latch jams. *tr
Dealership stated there was nothing wrong with my front abs brakes. still after 14,746 miles give or take a few my brakes still have periodic pulsation. i should of wrote this complaint 14,746 miles ago my vehicle now has 49,175 i bought it 34,429 thank god for extended warranties because otherwise i would have no windows because after buying a $16,000 vehicle i could not afford to replace all the window regulators that broke oh and i had to have a fuel pump module replaced it did not fix the problem my main concern on this heap im mean jeep are the breaks front and rear and that chrysler jeep will not be held accountable for these problems until a person has died. there are many other problems cosmetic problems like the interior and heater vents. but not life threatening. i also have many concerns with the electrical system but again the dealer crown motors of redding california states that they cant manifest it they cant fix it every time i get my jeep back from them it runs worse that it did prior. *tr
On wednesday, september 5, 2007, at approximately 8:30pm both my husband and i got in our 2006 jeep liberty with only 9,188 miles to drive home. upon turning on the vehicle we turned up the air conditioner and heard a grinding sound. unsure of what the noise was, my husband turned down the air for a moment. as he turned the air back up the blower fan fell out of the dashboard and into the foot area of the passenger front seat where i was sitting. the blower fan was still turning as it made contact with my feet because it did not detach from the electrical wiring. the blower fan continued running until my husband shut off the vehicle. due to the fact that i was wearing sandals when the blower fan fell out of the dashboard my toes were severely lacerated and suffered abrasions. these injuries required me to seek medical attention. due to this injury i have had to miss work, as it is not possible for me to wear shoes, stand for any length of time, or sit without elevating my feet. this incident along with other multiple faulty window components, all of which are warranty items, cause us concern. particularly since the blower fan was a recalled part and had recently been replaced. we no longer feel that this vehicle is safe to operate and have contacted chrysler headquarters customer service call center for assistance and are awaiting an inspection. *tr
Tl*the contact leases a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact scheduled an appointment in june of 2007 to have the blower motor replaced. he stated that the part for the repair is still unavailable in september of 2007. the air conditioning system hesitates when it is activated. the dealer cannot provide a specific date as to when the manufacturer will have the part. the current mileage was 17,000 and failure mileage was 15,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. on may 29, 2007, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle completely lost power. she stated that she was almost involved in a serious crash with several other vehicles. the contact stated that when she picked up the vehicle from the shop on june 6, 2007, it was not in the same working condition as before it was brought in for the fan belt recall repair. she stated that the wheels were loose and the air conditioner produced a burning smell when activated. the dealer remedied the recall, however, they stated that there were other potential failures that needed attention. the manufacturer has not offered any assistance. the contact stated that her vehicle is brand new and she has already received seven recall notices. the engine size was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 13,000. updated 02-01-08 *bf updated 02/01/08 *tr
I purchased a 2006 jeep liberty in tampa, fl september of 2006. this vehicle was purchased brand new, with approx 24 miles on it at the time of purchase. since my purchase the rear window regulators fail 5 times as of the current date. 4 times the dealership in fl fixed without any cost to me. when this happened 9/15/2010 for the 5th time (3rd time on the same window) i called the local jeep dealership and spoke to the service manager :explained the issue & wanted to know when i could bring it to the dealership to be repaired. he went on to tell me this: 'you can bring it in anytime, there is a $100 deductible to have this fixed. ' ( i questioned why, as this was an obvious defect on the manufacturer) he responded 'that is what the charge is, just be glad that this has not happened to all of your windows, this is a common problem with the 2002- current jeep liberty. jeep is aware of the problem, but they are not going to issue a recall, nor are they going to do anything about it.' (i was shocked that i would be told this) 'if you don't like this well, call chrysler yourself, here is the number 1-800-992-1997.' after i hung up the phone with him, i called the original dealership in florida to get the exact dates of the repairs. right rear- 1/28/08 left rear- 12/20/2006, 7/8/2008, and 8/13/09. i did call chrysler and spoke to someone, received a case number, and was told that someone would contact me in 24-48 hours with some sort of resolve to this. (that was thursday morning.) i received a call from the case manager at chrysler friday around 9:50am. there was a message left to call back, or i could wait for them to call me back on monday. called back, spoke 2 gretchen: sai the case manager had put notes in the case with the following: i had to pay the $100 up front and i could submit all the documents to be reimbursedasked to speak to the case manager and was transferred to matt (whom i thought was the case manager). *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 70 mph, a smell of burnt plastic was noticed. the vehicle pulled over, and flames erupted from under the passenger glove compartment. the contact extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher, and a police report was taken. the driver sustained blisters on his right hand while putting the fire out. the contact believed the fire could have been electrical since the fire started from the air conditioning blower area. the vehicle was deemed totaled, and was taken to a salvage yard. the manufacturer was contacted, and a complaint was taken. updated 11/03/06. *jb
At 16,000 miles my high pressure power steering hose went out on my 2006 jeep liberty and again at 46,000. the dealer claims this is "normal" and there is no recall on a faulty part. if it weren't $462 i wouldn't think twice about it. i got a second estimate from the guy who worked on my old car(main st. garage, firplay co) and he said that he's seen quite a few jeep liberty's come in with the same problem...one last week and before that there were 3 others in a 2 week period. he also stated that jeep is now using a different company to supply them with the part which, to me, means they know there was a problem with the old one. *tr
