Front driveshaft is vibrating and in need of replacement.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. while driving at any speed, unusual squeaking noises were heard coming from the ball joints. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall repair was previously performed and would not be done a second time. the contact was referred to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the dealer was not notified. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was 145,000. *tt the consumer stated the seatbelt connector fails and 4x4 fails to engage. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that after reversing in a parking space, the emergency parking brake was engaged and he exited the vehicle. a few minutes later, the vehicle was restarted and left unattended with the a/c activated. upon return, the vehicle exploded and caught on fire. it was unknown if a police report was filed. there were no injures reported. it was unknown if the dealer or manufacturer were contacted. the failure mileage was not available. *tt *js

the electrical system fails from winter to summer causing miscellaneous information to the computer, the auto can overheat, it can also clear down and open failure of gasoline. the ball joints fail truly. it happened to me in three occasions when i circulated by the city when crossing on a street, while passing a tumble, and on a terrace street. the front brake system breaks causing brake liquid leaks this is caused by the warming of parts and dirt. i saw the stain in the soil when i park in my garage and check.

Transmission failed which ruined the transfer case. jeep also recommends installing a transmission cooler. so, why is 2005 not covered? they tell me the parts are over $4,600 not including labor. if it was one year newer it would all be free. explain that to myself and the other owners. 'q1: how do i know if i'm covered by the new chrysler lifetime powertrain warranty? 'a1: you're covered if you're the first registered vehicle owner ' retail or lease ' in u.s., puerto rico and the virgin islands. this applies to 2009 model year vehicles. as well as 2006, 2007 and 2008 model year vehicles. 'q2: what does the new powertrain limited warranty include? 'a2: the chrysler lifetime powertrain warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components ' engine, transmission and drive system ' on most new chrysler, jeep and dodge vehicles. 'q3: what powertrain parts and components are covered? 'a3: gasoline engine, transmission and drive systems (fwd, awd, rwd or 4wd). 'q6: why did chrysler change its warranty coverage? 'a6: our confidence level in our vehicles is very high. our dealers are telling us that our products are the best quality they've seen in a very, very long time ' maybe ever. so, we'd like to take this level of confidence and share it with you, our customers. this new powertrain warranty demonstrates our commitment to you as a chrysler, jeep or dodge customer and the confidence we have in our ability to produce quality, reliable and durable vehicles. we want you to feel that same confidence. is that why you fired the executive dealing with quality? 'q15: what does 'lifetime' mean? 'a15: lifetime means lifetime.

The transmission is defective which in turn ruined the transfer case. i have another defective belt tensioner. last but not least i have two more broken window regulators. just check the internet there are articles all over about broken window regulators. i understand they only recalled 2006 and 2007 what about 2002-2005 which were bad first. on top of that they replace them with the same defective window regulators so they will break again and again. that way the dealers can continue to make money on you. the garage told me that the transmission in my car was used for one year on one model and i believe it because they have tried all over for a transmission and cannot get the right one. they have had three sent in and all three were wrong. this just confirms that the transmission was defective and they stop using it. plus a transmission should last far longer than 120,000 miles. i read all the time that today cars are good for 200,000 miles or more. this does not include the other defective parts on the jeep: belt tensioners, locks, roof rack, window regulators, horn, leaking windshield, rubber on roof rack, rubber on and around doors, upholstery stains even from water, master cylinder, replacing lights way to often as well as fuses, marks in the paint, fuel relay switch, and this list is by no means all inclusive it is just what i can remember off the top of my head. i have contacted chrysler over the years about window regulators and they don't care. your car is never secure when a window will drop without warning. it can occur while drive or even when you are not in the car. only one window in my car gets opened. windows not used break leaving you susceptible to theft and bodily harm. chrysler does not care about the transmission either. it is all greed. after being bailed out twice by the us taxpayers it is time they pay us back by being honest

To whom it may concern: i have a jeep liberty and i cannot drive it and i cannot get it fixed. it has been out of service for months. it was towed to my local mechanic. he tried to get a transmission several times but they were never the correct one. with the information provided by my mechanic and my research it appears jeep put the wrong transmission in my jeep liberty which explains why i cannot find one to match. jeep used the 42rle transmission from 2003-2013. the 42rle transmission has 4 connectors and a straight cross member. my transmission does not have 4 connectors and it does not have a straight cross member. therein lies the problem jeep put the wrong transmission in my jeep. also, jeep recommends putting a transmission cooler on the vehicle. why wasn't this done when it was first manufactured. the fact that the wrong transmission was used and they did not install a transmission cooler helps to explain why i have transmission problems. to me this is fraud. i did not receive what i paid for. i checked with a jeep dealer and the service manager said the 2005 jeep liberty did not come equipped with a transmission cooler. another jeep dealer provided me with a recommended list of parts to repair the problem sight unseen and it included a transmission cooler that was not installed originally. chrysler is offering a new lifetime powertrain warranty on 2006-2009 models that includes replacing powertrain components: engine, transmission and drive system including parts and labor or they will buy your vehicle back. these vehicles have the same components as the 2005 and for one year difference i receive nothing while others receive lifetime. that seems like discrimination to me. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When shifting my jeep from 1st to 2nd it sometimes makes a grinding noise. i brought it to my mechanic today and he took it for a ride. he told me that he thinks it's a little ball inside the transmission that is covered with nylon, and a couple of forks make it move. he is going to try changing my transmission fluid to a synthetic brand in hopes that will slow down the wear on the nylon ball, but eventually i will need a new transmission. i asked him what will happen when the ball finally breaks, and he told me the vehicle will cease to move, rather i am driving it or not. he also told me that this problem is a known problem with jeeps. if this is a known problem with jeeps then why haven't they been recalled and/or fixed?

Vehicle abruptly disengages from 1st gear (6 speed manual transmission). occurs at any speed in first gear and is unpredictable. also has popped out of first gear after shutoff and stationary. no recalls or service bulletins relating to this issue.

After driving my jeep for about 20 minutes it will start going in and out of limp mode then it will downshift hard to 3rd gear and will rev the engine until it is shut off and started again. i am no longer driving it and am debating on whether or not to fix it as i just dumped over $3000. for engine. this car seems to be a walking time bomb

At approx 8:00 on the morning of 2/16/15 my 2005 jeep liberty, 3.8l v-6 with automatic transmission began to accelerate out of control while braking for a stop sign. the engine was cold, i had just started it and the temperature was in the mid to upper 50s. i was traveling about 27 mph, and began to slow for the stop. at about 10-15 mph, i noticed the car was no longer slowing down. it seemed as though the brakes stopped working. at the same time, the engine briefly revved on its own. this made the car accelerate. i could not stop at the stop sign and the car accelerated into 50 mph cross traffic. i made a hard right turn to bring the car next to the curb, allowing room for traffic to go by. at the same time, i put the transmission into neutral and that allowed the car to stop. i then put the car into park and revved the engine. it seemed to respond normally at that point (engine would return to idle immediately after taking my foot off the gas). after shifting between part to drive, then reverse, etc. several times, it still seemed to work normally so i continued to work with no further problems. it seemed as though while coming to a stop, the transmission did not down shift or disengage. as the engine rpms were reduced below idle due to the car slowing, the computer control system tried to bring the engine speed back up, causing it to accelerate. a couple of facts - the car has approx. 159,800 miles on the odometer. i purchased it used a few months ago and have put 13,000 miles on it. when i purchased it i had it examined by a mechanic and had all the hoses, belts, etc. replaced. i've had the oil changed at about 5,000 mile intervals. i drive with one foot only, i don't use separate feet for the gas and the brake. the floor mat was not moved before or after this incident, and is not close to the gas pedal. check engine light did not come on. *tr

My girlfriend of 21 years, went into the doctor and when she came out her jeep liberty would start and then stall. she said there was clunking noise from the engine. i get there and call aaa and have it towed to a plus transmission and auto repair in brighton michigan. they said the rocker arm came lose from the adjuster and that should fix the problem. not so, turns out it was a broken valve seat also that had dropped down into the cylinder causing catastrophic engine failure. we are left with the expense of replacing the engine at a cost to us of $5600.00. this is a known problem with the chrysler 3.7 v6 engine. it happens just after the warranty expires. with todays technology i believe that engine should have had lasted up to 200000 miles. since we cant afford a new car this is the only way we can go. however, i believe chrysler should help with the expense of this. never will i buy from chrysler again. *tr

Jeep liberty with a 6 speed manual transmission periodically pops out of first gear as you begin to accelerate. there doesn't appear to be a pattern to the problem like how quickly are slowly you accelerate.

Tl* the contact owned a 2005 jeep liberty. while driving 45 mph, the transmission slipped and became stuck in third gear. the contact noticed smoke near the rear of the vehicle and flames rising underneath the vehicle. the fire department extinguished the fire and a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving various speeds with the 4x4 activated, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to dealer, who diagnosed that the drive shaft needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 126,000.

While driving the vehicle in a busy highway the steering becomes heavy and some fluid splashed on the front windshield and suddenly lost steering and gearing .i forced the vehicle to the shoulder and stepped out of it to check what went wrong. there was no light indicator or overheating. as soon as i stepped out of the car it starts rolling backward, so it lost braking as well..i was panicking and picturing how many accidents and toll death would have happened on the scene. one moving car had collided with my vehicle while it was rolling backward and two people got injured. the police have been notified and my jeep got towed as it is not drivable. i have contact chrysler and they return my call and promise to send their engineer to investigate and find out what went wrong without warring and it could have caused a total disaster on 95 north . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission independently shifted out of four-wheel drive mode without warning. the contact maneuvered to the side of the road as flames ignited from under the hood. the contact exited from the vehicle safely and the fire department extinguished the massive flames. a police report was filed of the incident. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage facility. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000....updated 02-28-14 *bf the consumer stated the e-mail address is incorrect.

Failure of steering column rod to actuate ignition sense switch caused vehicle no start and driver stranded. rod goes between key cylinder and ignition switch. key can still be turned, but if ignition switch does not actuate engine does not start. there are no dealer serviceable components in steering column. this leads to the entire steering column needing replacement for the failure of a 3mm aluminum cast rod. dealer estimate of $1200 for repair. pictures are available. *tr

The check engine light appeared, and i had the code run which stated the problem being the torque clutch converter (tcc) solenoid circuit. upon researching possible solutions and cost for repair, i noticed many others with this model vehicle had the same problem appear. since no recalls were available, i had the tcc replaced at the recommendation of my research and the opinion of the local shop who said the problem was not electrical. at this point, the new tcc has been replaced for approximately two months and the check engine light has not reappeared. however, ever since the light originally came on, i have noticed the acceleration and idle have been very strange. while the vehicle does not stall, it does make odd noises when 1) driving at speeds around 1-30 mph, 2) driving at low speeds up an incline, and 3) when moving in reverse initially. *tr

Was stopped at a red light waiting to turn left. when the stop light turned green i attempted to proceed with the vehicle. initially when i depressed the accelerator nothing happened. after about 15 seconds the vehicle lurched dramatically forward into opposing traffic. we were very lucky that the oncoming cars were able to swerve to avoid the vehicle. i took it in to a repair facility and the inspection showed that it was a transmission failure.the vehicle has been previously repaired on 5 separate occasions for similar transmission problems. in speaking with the mechanic performing the repair he indicated that chrysler had severe problems with the 42rle transmissions. i'm filing this complaint as i am very concerned that manufacturer has been allowed to produce a vehicle with an inherent defect that creates a severe safety impairment. *tr

This liberty crd has had multiple transmission problems under original warranty, engine was detuned to prevent torque converter problems, after warranty i still had problems. on 11/27/ 2012 going to work merging on toll way car lost power. turned out to be torque converter blew up and destroyed transmission. even though car has 130,000 miles, transmission in car never had more than 40,000 due to the many times it was removed. *tr

The plastic bushing in the transfer case shifter cable broke and the transfer case could not be shifted (4wd, neutral, 2wd). ours got stuck in 2wd so we able to drive it. this could happen without warning and apparently often does. this is a problem if the unit gets stuck in neutral the vehicle could not be moved out of the way of oncoming objects or if 4wd is needed it may not be able to be shifted into 4wd. apparently this same plastic bushing is at both ends of the shifter cable and is used in most other 4wd jeeps. the problem is common enough that at lest one after market company is marketing a redesigned shifter cable that does not use the plastic bushings. *tr

Gas tank would not take fuel. for 177.00 the dealer told me the safty valve was stuck in the fill tube and i needed 1400.00 for a new tank. only 72,000 miles and all new valves ,2 recalls and now this. never again. *tr

1) wiring harness failed--rear lights not operable/functional. vehicle crash possible because car not visible by other drivers at night. 2) gear shift sticks causing inability to put car in park. roll-away imminent. causing crash. *tr

Shift cable failed when we rolled to a stop. went to put the jeep in park. would not go. would not go into reverse. managed to force it into neutral but that was it. had to manually push the jeep backwards to try to turn it around to take it to a shop. key would not come out as a result making battery go dead. very unsafe because if that shifter cable broke at a higher speed it may or may not have messed the transmission up or allowed us to shut the vehicle off. for instance it were in drive and could not be shut off what would we do? found out from local jeep dealers that they have to replace several of these a week. my personal mechanic was unable to secure one for several days because they were sold out all in our region. suspect this is a big problem. no word from jeep on this! mechanic was stunned how poorly made the cable is and was surprised it lasted as long as it did! *tr

Two years ago my jeep started making metallic grinding sounds and violently shaking uncontrollably. i looked under my car at the front drive shaft to see it breaking apart from the inside out. i notified chrysler and after a long conversation they agreed to fix it admitting it was a faulty part. yesterday the noises and shaking came back with the newly replaced front drive shaft. chrysler admits its a unfair situation but refuses to replace there faulty part once again. this will cause a accident as it will happen unexpectedly. thank you for taking my complaint. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a loud rumble as the vehicle abnormally tilted toward the passenger side. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home for inspection by an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated that the front driveshaft was fractured and would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was repaired a second time. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

In a clear sunny day i was entering the freeway when i heard a big bang on my lower end front of my jeep liberty. there was nothing in the road that could have damaged it. the road was clear of any debris. after a couple of years taking it in into my jeep dealership they could find nothing wrong with it. finally not third but forth was a charm when they told me the lower front arms and bushing needed replacing. i have heard from many jeep owners that they have had the same problems i want to know why these parts have not been recalled. *tr

Key will not come out of ignition while in "park" because the shift button will not retract automatically as designed (shift-interlock system broken). i must manually retract the shift button while in "park" to remove the key. i must also manually retract the shift button while in "drive" so that the shifter cannot accidentally be bumped out of gear by accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty diesel crd. the contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire twice, in june 2011 and again five weeks later, for the same related failure. the contact stated that the fires were caused by the transmission vent that released fluid onto the exhaust pipe. the transmission failed and while driving, caused the fluids to leak and cause a fire under the hood. there were no injuries during either fire. a fire report was filed. the insurance company was contacted and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. the failure was a reported as a mechanical problem and the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 45,500 and the current mileage was 46,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. the vehicle was then towed to a local mechanic where he was advised that the ignition switch and steering column would need to be replaced. there was no electrical current passing through the starter and the mechanic advised that there were aluminum pieces that fractured in the steering column and caused the failure. the vehicle was not repaired because the parts needed were on backorder. the contact believed that the manufacturer was ignoring the issue which he stated was a severe safety issue. in addition, the contact stated that the transmission was replaced twice since owning the vehicle. the failure mileage was 85,100. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the rear wheels spun out of control. the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a curb. the rear passenger wheel separated from the axle during the crash. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

2005 jeep liberty shift head button broken (50,000 mi) shift is moved by small force because shift button is stuck in pushed position not coming bck to locking position so it dangerous gearshift change to different position unexpectedly by little force while driving. *tr

2005 jeep liberty, automatic, with 71k miles. traveling on freeway with cruise control on when sudden loud "thud" followed by forward jerking motion. disengaged cruise control. was able to continue to destination. on return, jeep started but will not move in any gear. towed to repair center. diagnosis showed that the transmission failed but not due to lack of maintenance or driving habits. transmission just failed. replacement transmission is on backorder from jeep for two weeks as of this writing. i will write to chrysler as transmission are not to just fail after 71k miles. this is a defect that chrysler needs to acknowledge. *tr

2005 jeep liberty diesel with transmission problems due to torque converter. jeep replaced the first one at 28,000 mi and i am replacing the 2nd at 83,000 mi. i am replacing it because between 25 and 45 mph the rpm's constantly vary by 200 to 500 rpm as well as occasionally a shifting shudder occurs which can cause rupture of the tc and subsequently destruction of the transmission at time of acceleration. i had to do something to avoid being stranded on a hill somewhere. *tw

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty diesel engine purchased new april 2005. while attempting to park the vehicle he could smell a burning odor. upon exiting the vehicle, he noticed smoke coming from both the driver's and passenger's side rear wheels. he then attempted to move the vehicle , but it would not engage into drive mode. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and he was awaiting the diagnosis of the vehicle. he speculated that his failures are identical to the description referenced in recall campaign id number 06v341000 (power train:automatic transmission). no repairs were made to the vehicle to date. the failure and current mileages were under 40,000. the vin was not available.

When at a stop, i put the car into first gear. a lot of times, not all the time, it will violently pop out of gear. i then put it back in gear, and drive away. i can avoid this by put it in to first gear as i glide to a stop, or by creeping the jeep in 2nd gear and then go back to 1st. this has been going on for a long time now. the pop out of gear sounds and feels like my transmission fell out of the vehicle. i originally thought it was just my car, but after reviewing the blogs, noticed alot of other people having the same issues with their 6 speed manual jeep. *tr

I have a 2005 jeep liberty sport. major snow storm and trying to get home from work. put the car into 4 wheel drive, shaft broke from internal connector and now it is permanently stuck in four wheel drive. 4wheel drive is horrible, spun out going 10 miles per hour while going up hill, almost got struck by a truck. after some research i've found that it is widely known among the industry that the jeep liberty has a poorly designed and faulty 4 wheel drive system but jeep refuses to recall to fix the problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, a one axle trailer was attached to the vehicle. the vehicle exhibited an extremely low power response. in addition, the fuel mileage was poor. the failure occurred without warning. in 2007, the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 05v460000 (power train:automatic transmission); however, it has not corrected the issue addressed in the safety defect. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact stated that the horsepower was reduced after the recall remedy was performed on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was unavailable.

This is for a 2005 jeep liberty. faulty speedometer. was replaced 2 times within 2 years. chrysler tsb indicates replacement of the rear differential fluid every year to resolve the problem. there is a problem with engineering if you have to do this. they will replace the speedometer for ~ $210.00 or change the fluid for $199.00 every year. consumers are being held hostage for this annual charge for the fluid change as i have had my speedometer changed 2 times already. the maintenance schedule says nothing about this in schedule a. however the dealer refers to schedule b as what they recommend due to this issue. however, the book sites an exclusion in schedule b if your vehicle is used commercially, heavy hauling, snow plowing, of road use, etc. i have as of 08/06/2008 42,722 miles on this, and do to prescribe to the above exclusion. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the vehicle was parked in the driveway on a slight incline and the engine was turned off. an hour and a half later, the vehicle rolled backwards into the street. the contact pulled the vehicle back into the driveway. the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v460000 (power train: automatic transmission). the current and failure mileages were 27,600. updated 03-04-08 *bf

I am the owner of a 2005 jeep liberty with a 2.8 diesel crd engine. chrysler has a mandatory recall requiring some new components on the transmission and a "slight" engine detune. i purchased this vehicle for several reasons; 1. better gas mileage. 2. more engine torque for towing and a longer lasting engine. at 31k dollars you would expect it to be good vehicle. it appears to me that chrysler has too small of a transmission on this vehicle and is detuning the engine to spare the transmission. i'm sorry, but i bought a diesel for that very reason: more torque than a gas engine. do i have to expect this recall? it was completed last week, the jeep dealer indicated that my warranty would be void it i did not comply with the terms of the recall> sincerely, tim lett *tr

The 2005 jeep liberty limited crd has had a residual problem of fluctuating of rpm's (shuttering) during idling, creating stalling at stop lights when the brakes are engaged on a cold engine start. at busy intersections when the brakes are engaged, the vehicle will unexpectedly lurch forward and usually cause the engine to die in the middle of traffic. this is a major safety hazard, causing an immediate life-threatening situation. this vehicle has been in the shop five times for the same issue and the problem is still present. fuel filters, air filters, egr valves and return lines of injectors have been replaced, all to no avail. this urgent issue needs to be addressed immediately. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. while the vehicle was in the park position, it began to roll in reverse and struck a small tree. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer. the rear window will need to be replaced and other damages are present. the contact believes that the failure is related to safety recall # 05v460000 (power train: automatic transmission). the current and failure mileages were 10,000.

Tl* - the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contacts was concerned that there were safety recalls on the vehicle, and two in particular on this vehicle, and she has not received any information stating that there was a safety recall on the vehicle. the contact stated that on 03/12/2007 she went on the internet and found that there were two safety recalls that applied to this vehicle. there had been no failures to date. the current mileage was 29,000. *ak update 05/04/07*tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty diesel. without a cause or warning, and while driving 70 mph, the vehicle slowed down from high to low gear to 35 mph. the last failure was on 02/22/2007. the contact stated that the last 3 times the failure occur the roads were either icy or covered with snow. the manufacturer was aware that the failure was due to the computer controlled transmission, and although there have been campaigns, the failure continued to exist. the contact considered replacing the transmission. the failure was a safety hazard and a nuisance. there were related failures listed on the internet. the current and failure mileage was 56,000. *ak the transmssion abruptly shifted into first gear. updated 03/19/07.*jb

Tl* - the contact called regarding the 2005 chrysler jeep liberty. the contact received recall 06v288000. the contact was on a waiting list for the lower ball joint. the contact had been waiting for approximately 2 months. the contact had steering problems when the vehicle was in the four wheel drive mode. the current mileage was approximately 7400. *ak

Received re-call notice, contacted dealership as instructed in notice and was told they didn't have parts. contacted daimler chrysler at the number provided and they said they could not/would not do anything. now my car is not fixed and the dealership and daimler chrysler are both telling me it is not their job, fault, problem. *nm

I have had several safety related issues with the transmission on my 2005 jeep limited liberty crd. chrysler recently issued a f37 customer satisfaction recall which was supposed to resolve the issue, but only one day after the recall was performed the truck exhibits the same unsafe condition. *nm

I bought a new 2005 jeep liberty from chrysler. it has less than 30,000 miles on it (warranty is for 36,0000/3years). i have always kept it in good condition, and have done all maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, etc.) .a few of my oil changes were done at an oil shop, even at the dealer. so, out of the blue (no warning lights, or "strange" sounds previous to this) as soon as i started it, i heard a funny "clanking" sound. i got in, figured i''d be cautious, and take it around the block.when i put my foot on the gas, the "clanking" noise increased. so, i parked it and had it towed to the original dealership. first, they looked at and said they weren't sure what the problem was, but would have the engine tech. look at it. he finally did (after 3 days of hearing nothing) and said that i had a ''bad valve''. then they called me a day or so later and said that my "engine head" was bad and that the entire engine would have to be replaced. i asked what the cause of this and they said that my oil was sludged up so badly that it knocked the engine apart! not to mention, wouldn''t the first tech. have noticed something so obvious??? now they are saying they want me to pay the $6,000 to replace the engine even though it is still under warranty! the only way they will cover it, is if i bring all of my oil change receipts in. well, don't have all of my oil change receipts! nowhere in the warranty book does it state that you must keep all receipts! i've contacted chrysler via email, and they said, "we concur with the dealer...'' so now i'm at a stand still and very frustrated! i'm a single mom that has special needs child, and need my car to take him to the dr. frequently. i don't know what to do. but i do know that i'm angry and feel that this is unfair, dishonest! according to my reseach this "oil sludge" problem seems to be something that chrysler has said to many customers. particularly with 3.7 engines of 2002-06 jeeps.
