Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2004 Jeep Liberty

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the windows fell down on their own. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the regulator had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 160,000.

My 2004 jeep liberty driver's side rear window opened on its own while driving on highway. i never open this window. it seems to be a well-known issue to jeep but because no one seems to have died as a result (yet), they refuse to issue a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated the rear windows suddenly fell down due to a broken regulator. this occured while the vehicle was parked in a parking lot. the contact stated this has happened six times. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have them replace the regulator. the manufacturer had assisted the contact with the cost of the repairs but the contact stated the repair is not remedying the problem. the dealer informed the contact the regulator is made of plastic and it melts due to the heat and that's what causes the regulator to malfunction. the failure mileage was 110,000.

I've now replaced two window regulators...well, not exactly the whole thing. after doing my research i found a person that fabricates the vinyl plastic piece that is always under strain that literally supports the window out of .... metal! (genius). i've purchased one for all the windows and am installing them as needed. who in their right mind would think that little piece of plastic is going to withstand the test of time? this was a very very poor engineering solution. a soft material like that should not be put under constant strain of pull and weight. this is truly a faux pas on chryslers' behalf. it's like the part was deployed to ensure constant income due to repair! i've read hundreds and glanced at thousands of issues regarding this design and part. i am just beside myself from the manufacturers lack of response. shame on you jeep!

While driving through congested traffic on the highway, the rear window of my 2004 jeep liberty made a grinding noise and unexpectedly fell down inside of the door, my dog nearly fell out and i nearly caused an accident while pulling over to safety. my family and i had to drive 45 minutes in the rain with no rear window. i have since learned this is a very common problem with power windows in the jeep liberty years 2002-2006 and there is even a company that stays in business selling replacement parts specifically for this problem (http://www.steigerperformance.com/products/sp13001.html)., *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that both rear window regulators failed to operate at different times, which caused the glass to unexpectedly release down inside the door panel. the failures occurred while driving over a railroad track and when the vehicle was stationary. the vehicle was first taken to an authorized dealer, where they were unable to perform a repair at that specific time. the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where they replaced the rear passenger side window regulator. the rear driver side window regulator had not been replaced and the window was temporarily secured in a closed position with tape. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 46,630.

I got into the car, started it, and the back left passenger window dropped. i bought part number 68059647-aa regulator 2303900 for $167.00 on 7/2/2010.to repair the window. 2/20/2012 i had to replace the driver's side window regulator as it dropped the window and would not function. i bought part number 68059645-ab regulator 23039005 for $182.00. since then the passengers' side windows have also failed. on 9/28/2012, the back left window regulator failed again. i might accept 1 window regulator failing but not 4 or 5, if you count a second failure. what gets me is the fact that the back windows do not get a great deal of use. i believe they've been used maybe 10 times since i bought the car in 2004. for a second failure, when the part has not had but 2 uses (to check that the window was operational), is ridiculous. *tr

11 months ago my driver side rear window regulator broke and i had to have it fixed. they said it happens because of the heat. fine, i forked out a few hundred dollars and a few hours of my time. then yesterday i got into my car and sure enough the window was down, when i tried to roll it up and nothing happened i immediately called the dealership. they set me up with an appointment for this morning. they said it happens all the time and chrysler is aware of the problem, but is not doing anything about it, rather they are making more money off of the customers in the repairs. there are thousands of complaints about this online, and now this is the third regulator my car has had, with no guarantee i won't be back again next year for another. *tr

I bought a 04 jeep liberty for my son. the driver's window went out immediately after buying it. research showed thousands of occurrences of this happening to people everywhere. the nylon support bracket is not strong enough to perform its designed function and breaks over and over again with no recall from chrysler. this is a safety issue and for that reason chrysler should issue a recall and fix this problem. chrysler seems to be just getting rich off of fixing their badly engineered window regulator at the consumers expense. i am sure glad the government gave them bail out money but when will they accept responsibility for their poor design and recall this window regulator bracket. in my case, only the nylon support bracket that supports the window to move up/down the track is broken. this is a shameful way for a car maker to handle a problem that is obviously a design flaw. some agency needs to force chrysler to own up to this and help the consumer get what he paid for - a vehicle with power windows that work as designed. *tr

My 2004 jeep liberty has had the same broken window three separate times. the regulator inside the window motor is poorly designed and snaps. i have just read hundreds of complaints on the internet about this and several other people said they filed a complaint as well. the window basically falls down, and it could have easily shattered all over my three year old who was sitting beside this window. now it is 100+ degrees here and i have to try to unsafely rig this window so it doesn't fall and break. chrysler will give an estimate of over $500 to fix this. this is the third time. something needs to be done to fix this issue and now. *tr

Jeep liberty window regulator breaks allowing window to fall down into door and remain inoperative until fixed. we own a 2004 liberty and have now had 12 regulators repaired/replaced over 6 years because of some executive decision to cut cost with a plastic part vs steel. been caught in monsoon with broken window, 100+ degree temperatures with broken window. this can happen at any time/mileage, moving or stationary, using or not using windows. *tr

The driver's side window regulator failed and the window was inoperable. the regulator was replaced by a mechanic. *tr

I have a 2004 jeep liberty that i have had for about 3 years. within the last year i have now had two of the windows suddenly stop working with no warning. the first one was the driver's side backseat window. last year i was putting it down due to the heat. when i went to put it up, i could hear the motor trying to work but to no avail. after checking it out, i could actually see a long, metal cord or cable sticking out of the small hole in the door. at the time i took it to the local jeep dealership and they said it would be about $500 to fix! unfortunately, this is too much for me so i have been using doorstops to keep the window up. today, i had a similar experience with the driver's side window. this time the window would not go back up. i just spent the last hour dissecting the door and prying the window back up. after looking online, this seems to be a very big problem for this car. i do feel something should be done by chrysler. *tr

2004 jeep liberty windows fall down. regulators are junk!!! this is my 5th replacement!!! *tr

I have a 2004 jeep liberty and on 4 separate occasions have had the driver's front and rear windows fall into the door unexpectedly due to a failed window regulator. on two of these occasions the window failure occurred while the vehicle was in operation. on all four occasions, the dealership charged me $325 to fix the window even though they admitted that it was due to a faulty part because i was no longer under warranty. the rear driver window has failed on 3 separate occasions, each time, within less than a year of having the regulator replaced at a jeep authorized dealership. the service manager at my jeep dealership has admitted to me that it is a faulty part and that the right thing would be if chrysler were to issue a recall for the parts. *tr

2004 jeep liberty, windows repeatatly fall off track when driving, door and rear latch do not lock. the windows have broken 6 times. the car will not lock. *tr

Window in my 2004 jeep liberty will suddenly drop down and will not go back up even though they are power. i then have to have them replaced. i have had 3 of the 4 windows replaced and am now working on the last. this time, my dog was in the back. had my mother not been in the back seat he would of jumped through not knowing what was going on. there i am driving down the highway and my window slips down. this is expensive to cost and can be very dangerous... can you imagine if your child was back there. *tr

While driving, the front passenger window dropped into the door and would not respond using the window switch. window had to be taped to the door frame until we could get it to a repair facility. the regulator failed and both the regulator and motor had to be replaced. *tr

I have a 2004 jeep liberty. the passenger side window fell into the door. took it to a repair shop and was told the regulator had failed. i have read several instances of this type of failure on this model vehicle. why isn't the nhtsa doing anything about this? *tr

04 jeep liberty: left side driver & rear passenger windows fell down into the doors. unable to fix it without spending approx. $300 per door. the windows are now held up by scotch tape. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the rear window regulator became inoperable. the dealer replaced both regulator units, but the failure recurred. since the repair, the second rear window became inoperable. the manufacturer was notified and made an attempt to repair the defect. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage 84,000. the vin was unavailable.

While recently driving my 2004 jeep liberty, my 10-year old daughter in the backseat began to lower the rear window using the power window button. at a certain point, i heard a loud grinding noise. upon stopping, i noted that the window had failed in the lowered position and would not move with further manipulation of the power window button. however, i also noted that the rear passenger door would not open and was jammed shut. i was unable to open the door from either the inside or outside of the vehicle. upon taking the vehicle home and removing the door panel, i noted that the window regulator ' a plastic piece ' had failed. at this point, i was still unable to open the door. i then removed the power window motor and accompanying assembly. with this action, i noted that the screw cable, in absence of the plastic regulator piece, had run its entire length up into the rear portion of the door behind the locking mechanism. with the screw cable lodged behind the locking mechanism, the door was jammed and would not open with any normal force. a simple search on the internet results in numerous discussions of problems with the window regulator failing due to the plastic design. it is in my opinion that such a failure is hazardous as it may render the occupant unable to egress the vehicle in an emergency. although the probability of a crash coupled with a regulator failure is low, a simple fix is inexpensive in comparison such as offering a replacement regulator piece made of a material more resistant to fatigue and/or re-route the tubing that houses the screw cable such that failure of the regulator will not allow the screw cable to run behind the locking mechanism. i have since disconnected the electrical lead to the power window motor and tie-wrapped the window in the closed position pending a suitable fix to the regulator. *tr

Purchased vehicle used, low miles 32,764, january, 2009. around early august, 2009, the passenger window fell down and wouldn't go back up. you could hear motor running when window switch was pressed. called chrysler on 8/10/09. they advised window regulator was known issue with chrysler (they assigned case number). advised me to call dealer. i did. out of stock. too, they would have to open door panel and charge me $59.95 just to take panel off. he would then have to call chrysler once the panel was off to see if they would agree to fix it. ridiculous. told him to call back when in stock. when i didn't hear back, i phoned a couple more times and then gave up. went ahead and had it fixed by a repair man 9/2/09 at a cost of $230. the third week of october, 2009, the rear driver side window fell down a few inches and wouldn't go up or down. the rear passenger side window would not go up or down. you could again hear the motor running when the window switches were pushed. the two rear windows cost me $400 to have fixed with my repair man. i had given up on the dealer. in all three instances, i was shown the broken part that was taken out of the door panel. the cables are breaking free in the window regulators. *tr

Drivers side defective window regulator, cable brakes, window will not operate. the consumer stated that a thin nylon part had broken from the lift component that the window attached to, that could be repaired/replaced for $5.00, however chrysler did not make the cable available and instead consumers were being forced to buy the entire motor assembly for $180.00 and labor at $350.00 even if the motor and/or regulator were not defective. the reason why the window failed, was because of the failure of the poor nylon part component or cable installed. once the small nylon piece broke off, the nylon part was no longer attached to the actual cable that moved up and down via the window motor, or the cable would break itself. the window motor continued to work. *jb

Rear driver side window fell, cable regulators defective vehicle description: jeep liberty sport 4x2 sport utility 4-dr model year: 2004. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked when front passenger window fell into the door panel abnormally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the window regulator would need to be replaced. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired fro the exact same failure seven times. the vehicle was not further repaired for the most recent window failure. the failure mileage was 49,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.

Power window regulators...break and windows fall . 2004 jeep liberty.. tomorrow will be 5 times to have new window regulators. mine is not the only one there is such a problem that chrysler has a back-order on the regulators. now my chrysler dealer just charges $100 to repair. had one fail last week and this week the other side failed. *tr

2004 jeep liberty window regulator faulty part. i just had it break on me without any reason. no stress or normal usage. was on rear drivers side window tat hardly ever gets used. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the passenger side rear window fractured into the door track and she was unable to open or close the window. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred three times prior to the most recent failure. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the window regulator was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was out of warranty. the vin was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 68,388 and the current mileage was 92,400.

2004 jeep liberty window regulators. replaced left rear window regular ($450) in 2009. replaced left rear window regulator in july, 2010 at cost of $96 (goodwill warranty). right rear window regulator needs to be replaced but hasn't because of cost. now front left window regulator has to be replaced for $350. this causes hardships in inclement weather conditions while driving the windows get stuck or fall down while driving causing distractions as well as financially having to pay labor and parts costs each repeat time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated the front passenger and driver side automatic window regulator failed. the rear driver's side window regulator also failed on a separate occasion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the window regulator was replaced for each failure at different times. most recent the rear driver's side window regulator failed for the second time and had not been replaced. the manufacturer was notified and they were unable to provide assistance for the continuous malfunction. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the door motor makes grinding noises. the cause of the noises could not be determined. he discovered a metal-ribbed piece protruding from the interior door that housed a cable. the contact took the door apart and discovered that the cable snapped from its housing. the window was also malfunctioning. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were less than 60,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 65 mph the rear passenger window rolled down on its own. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the window regulator unit needed to be replaced on all four windows. the failure occurred nine times on all four windows intermittently. the repairs were made to the window regulator unit eight times. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would pay for the parts. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

The windows in the jeep fail anytime and generally starting under 50,000 miles. what happens is the window will roll down, but then you will not be able to get it back up and it stays down, even manually raising it, it will still fall down. chrysler is aware of the problem and has made a repair kit for the windows. the problem is to have someone repair the windows it costs $300-$400 per window. i have had my driver side window fail, the driver side back window fail and the passenger side front window fail all within a 3 year time frame. chrysler recalled this problem on the 2007-2008 jeep liberty and after reading multiple message boards, this is a huge issue with the 2004-2005 models as well. several people have had multiple repairs on the same window. 3 out of 4 failed windows is unacceptable. *tr

There are no events leading up to the problem. that is the problem. my 2004 jeep liberty has a problem with the windows just falling down. i came out from work and my passenger side window was down. thank goodness no one stole anything out of the vehicle. within a week, the driver side has now fallen down, during my drive to work. i purchased the replacement parts from a dealer and repaired it myself. the parts alone were almost $400 for a plastic piece that is temporarily fixing it. by that i mean, they have not tried to improve the problem just merely charging us to fix it. i have read where people have had the same window go out in less than a week, or walk out of their house and all four be down. this may not be the kind of safety that you usually deal with, but there has to be a reason this is happening. *tr

I would like to take this opportunity to express my concerns regarding a malfunction with the window regulator on the 2004 jeep liberty that i own. my initial complaint started on october 29, 2007. i noticed while i was driving, for no reason at all, the back driver side window slid down. there was no recovery, so i visited the chrysler dealer, darner chrysler-jeep in mesa, arizona. i also contacted the chrysler customer service and they agreed to compensate half of the total bill of $304.57. they compensated $154.57. about a month later, november 23, 2007 i had the exact event happen only it was the driver window that had slid down. i repeated my visit to the dealer and called chrysler to ask for their assistance. they agreed this time to pay for the labor of $147.00. i was responsible for $162.89. i now have a third window with the same exact problem that i discovered yesterday, january 31, 2008. i called chrysler and expressed my concerns with these numerous events and they told me that they could not assist me this time as this is the third event. although the chrysler corporation and the dealer are both aware of the numerous replacements that have been done for not only me but for many people who own the 2004 jeep liberty, they are not willing to assist me in any compensation for the third instance or seem to have concern for the safety of their customers. i have researched this problem and found out that there are many people across the u.s. that have experienced their window dropping down as a result of a defective regulator. i found no current recall at the current time. i am very concerned that this is a major safety and security issue that could cause harm to the passengers and the drivers of this vehicle. i am asking for your assistance in forcing a recall for this part in this particular vehicle. i understand that you must receive a large amount of request, but i would appreciate prompt attention in this matter. *tr

The blower that controls the heat and air conditioner broke due to defective relay block and body computer junction block. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the passenger side window failed and fell down into the door panel abnormally. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where the technician advised the contact that the cable that was attached to the motor was fractured. the motor was replaced but the failure recurred. the failure also occurred on the front and rear driver side window as well as the passenger side window. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000. updated 03/12/12 *bf updated 04/26/12

Window regulators are faulty. within the past year the driver-side and back passenger windows have simply dropped into the door without warning. the last time this occurred i was on the interstate in thunderstorm and the window suddenly dropped without warning. i think this is a safety hazard. *tr

Window regulators failing. have had two replaced in the past two years. both are broken again, along with a third. there seems to be no apparent cause for the failure. internet search shows that this is a major problem among jeep liberty and jeep cherokee owners, yet chrysler denies that there is a problem and will not fix. dealer wants to charge over $300 apiece to repair. *tr

Power windows fail and window slides down and cannot be brought back up in order to close the window. have had three of my windows fail in exactly the same way, all of them needing to have the entire window regulator and motor assembly replaced, costing over $500 in each of the three time that this happened. *tr

I found back window dropped into door twice on its own and would not go up. front passenger side window dropped into door once on its own and would not go up. first time was june 8, 2006. second time was june 20, 2007. third time was september 4, 2007. *jb

Two window regulators in my jeep liberty failed and the windows dropped. it happened during a rainstorm and i nearly drove off the road into a ditch because of it. someone is going to die because of this. the windows just dropped. i had to put a permanent support in place to prevent the window from falling. it's a common problem and chrysler will not address it. safety is being compromised for profit. *tr

2004 jeep liberty with safety recall f-23 - lower ball joints customer is asking for reimbursement for tow and tires**cc the consumer scheduled an appoint to have the recall done on january 11, 2007, however on january 7, 2007 the left front wheel came off the vehicle. the consumer stated the windshield is extra susceptible to chips and cracks due to debris hitting it. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the regulator in the driver side rear window would constantly fail. the dealer replaced the window regulator numerous times, but the failure recurred continuously. the manufacturer was notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the failure. the failure mileage was 27,844 and the current mileage was 107,925.

2004 jeep liberty. consumer states regulators for the rear power-windows regularly fail, causing the windows to fall into the door panels at which time they cannot be closed. *tgw the consumer stated since 2006 he and his wife have experienced the problem a total six times, three for each rear window. *jb the consumer stated the driver side window fell into the door panel while his wife was driving on the freeway. the is now the seventh incident. updated 10/20/11.*jb

We have had repeated failures on all of our window regulators since we purchased our jeep. the first occurrence was in 2006. i would have to pull our repair file to get the other dates. we currently have another window out, it is taped up to keep things out. this is the window in the back behind the front passenger seat. this has already been replaced. the replacements don't even hold up. we are senior citizens. no one "plays" with the windows. we use our ac so windows are not opened and closed. they just fall down on their own. we can not afford to keep replacing the window regulators. the dealer said he thought there was a recall on this because it is such a big problem ,but i don't see anything here except window regulator complaints. when are they going to take this problem seriously? *tr
