Tl* the contact owns a 2003 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the windshield began to crack without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the failure was due to a pressure issue between the seal and the window. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 12/16/14*lj

I have a 2003 jeep liberty. i have been having problems with my blower motor. at first, i had no air rotating at level one. then, i would have no air rotating at all. then, the following day, it would be working. now it doesn't work at all. i took my kids to school today, and i had problems seeing threw the windshield because i had no air blowing the defrost. as of now, i haven't not had anything repaired. *tr

My daughter just had another jeep liberty window regulator failure on a passenger rear door causing the door glass to fall into the door. this is the 5th regulator failure on the rear doors since she has owned the vehicle. the first one was under warranty (no charge), but she paid full cost ($300-$350) on two and a $25 deductible (co-pay as chrysler calls it) on the last one and a projected $100 co-pay on this one----as i talked to chrysler yesterday on this latest one. it appears that no two situations are handled the same way based on the jeep forums i've viewed and based on my experiences. it seems to me that they should at least be consistent, but i believe it depends on which csr you talk with. yesterday's csr told me that she should have to pay the same as a customer who purchased an extended warranty with its standard $100 deductible. the csr earlier this year on the $25 co-pay told me that charge was so they could warrant the part for 12 months or 12,000 miles and fix it free of charge should the part go bad again. obviously, chrysler knows there is a big problem here--it's my understanding that there is a tsb on this issue. i understand they now replace the window along with the regulator because there has been a design change in how the regulator attaches to the window--so they acknowledge the problem (but no recall). those who are paying full price for repair are buying a new window, too--as if the cost to replace the regulator isn't expensive enough. and, whether the vehicle is under warranty or not should have no bearing on this type of issue. chrysler just doesn't get it on this problem! why there hasn't been a recall or a class action lawsuit on this is baffling. *tr

I had issues with my headlights flicking on and off, remaining off upon using my turn signal. i own a jeep liberty 2003. i was told the car was not registering any issue on the computer analysis run, on oct 6th upon taking it in however it seemed like a multi-functional switch to the mechanics. the lights literally would go off on their own accord driving on a straight away at times as well. there was also a time they would click high beam, park light, then low beams and out then come back on all by them selves while you are driving. very unsafe and dangerous. i went to tom o'brien jeep, 4630 e. 96th street, indpls, in 46240. and had this replaced on november 4th. however the multi-functional switch and labor cost me 165.00 and the new switch installed was not operating correctly, so i paid that for a bad switch. now when i turn on my switch the headlights, the fog lights and my park lights are all on at the same time. no other way of using my lights. dealership and advisor greg nester, told me they would reorder and that they were not at fault for bad switch but made me pay for labor on a bad switch that is still not working properly. it's now been a month since installing bad switch and i still do not have a correctly light system and multi-function switch has not come in. this is a safety issue jeep should cover. apparently allot of jeeps are having these replaced and dealerships not equipped. *tr

I own a 2003 jeep liberty and have had it for 2 years now and have every problem you can think of. my warranty recently expired 6,000 miles ago. my warranty expired at 75,000 miles and at 78,000 miles my air conditioner broke and had to replace that it cost me $900.00. just yesterday may car would not shift passed second gear, i have an automatic transmission, i noticed it when i was getting on the highway. lately i have been noticing that the transmission seems to be slipping but never could find the problem because my transmission fluid was always fine. so yesterday i went to aamco transmissions and they said it was the tcm so they told me it would cost $440.00 total. so they went to order the part but come to find out no one has it and the place that has all the tcm parts wont ship them till the 24th of september. so here it is september 3rd and i wont have my car fixed for the whole month of september. i don't understand why they wont ship them now. also, they told me that they have been selling out of tcm fast because everyone is always needing them. *tr

2003 jeep liberty (freedom edition) power train control module has failed twice first time - june 2007 it was replaced by the dealer november 2008 it needs to be replaced again. it is not covered by the manufacturers warranty and the warranty on the part was up june 2008. should this have to be replaced twice in a year and a half? *tr

On three separate occasions one of the rear windows on my jeep liberty has fallen into the door panel and become inoperable. the first two times required the replacement of a window regulator. the third instance happened today and i'm sure will require the same solution. *tr

2003 jeep liberty complaint: visibility:power windows and controls details: on three separate occasions the rear windows of my jeep liberty have fallen into the door panel and become inoperable. no warranty. had to pay over $300 to dealership for each occurrence to fix windows! *tr

I received a recall notice at the end of december and i proceeded to call the local dealer to schedule an appointment to get the vehicle taken care. i called the end of the first week of january and was informed by the person at the dealership that my name would put on the list and the parts to be ordered since they did not have them in stock. the person proceeded to inform that it would take awhile and that i would contacted when the parts came in and an appointment scheduled then. today is january 27th and i have not received a call from the dealership in getting my vehicle scheduled for service. *nm

Making a left turn the upper ball joint separated stranding vehicle in the roadway until tow truck arrived, upper ball joint was replaced with oem part by a local dealer along with control arm which had been damaged. the same ball joint shows signs of wear not allowing proper front end alignment also pa state certified inspection garage stated vehicle wouldn't pass yearly inspection at given state and is unsafe to drive. ball joint was replaced approximately 17 months ago with 17000 mile added to vehicle. *tr

We had the recall(ball joints) done on our jeep liberty back in 03. then on 10/03/06 we had it back in the shop for stiffness in the steering; we were told the ball joints were fine, and that it could be the power steering pump and rack and pinion. on 10/31/06, the ball joints broke off while driving resulting in major mechanical damage to our jeep!!! if this is a recall on the first recall, why should we feel safe driving this vehicle after we get it back? how do we know its not going to happen again? please give us some input. *nm

2003 jeep liberty sport - lower ball joint separated from knuckle while driving on 6/24/06. note: recall notice on lower ball joints received june 2004 and repair/inspection in response to recall notice was completed 6/30/04 (lower ball joints replaced and heat shield installed) at cross chrysler jeep in louisville, ky. failure still occurred after recall repair. new repairs completed on 6/30/06 at neil huffman chrysler/dodge jeep in louisville, ky- lower ball joints replaced again. one (1) wheel and one (1) axle also replaced due to significant damage as a result of lower ball joint failure. *jb

Front end felt loose on the right side and when braking there was heavy clunking noise. found a recall notice online and called my dealer. i was told to bring it in and have it checked. the dealer replaced the lower ball joints on both side stating that the right side was ready to break at any moment. the dealer also installed a heat shield between the front rotors and the ball joints. this was at approximately 32,000 miles. steering felt tight again and the clunk noise was gone. then at approximately 43,000 miles, the noise returned and again the steering felt loose on the right side. this time i bought an after market replacement part that is sold as a problem solver to replace the defective ball joint. these were installed by a non-dealer shop at approximately 45,000 miles. noise and loose feeling in the steering has went away. *nm

At 54,000 miles the vehicle suffered a complete failure of the passenger side rear brake adjuster, causing additional damage to the brake hardware for that wheel including the total loss of the emergency shoe. because of the extent of the damage and, the unusual amount of corrosion found by the dealer, they insist on replacing much of the rear brake hardware on both sides at a personal expence of around $800 (brakes are only warranted for 1 year or 12,000 miles by jeep). about 10,000 miles and 6 months prior to this incident, new emergency shoes had been installed and worked well for 4 months when banging noises, dragging, lurching and, pulling began with increasing frequency up to the time i took it back to the dealer for the second time on the date i list here; the dealer had found nothing the prior time i complained. there appears to be an issue with critical brake parts corroding extensively and failing in a short period of time under what are considered normal driving conditions for the ne part of the country. there may also be an issue with the tolerance of replacement brake parts that are supposed to be factory authorized components. at any rate, i am not the first to complain about brake hardware problems associated with the 2003 jeep liberty. i have read references to corrosion related brake failures here and at other sites. given the way the vehicle behaved intermittently and the failure of the dealer to find it early, a potentially dangerous and needlessly expensive situation exists in at least the early production 2003 libertys (i bought one of the first available ones that year and noticed a rash of complaints on this subject beginning last summer). *ak

My wife jessica and son andrew were traveling on interstate 80 east bound the day after christmas 2004 when we hit a patch of ice and were thrown off the road, down a bank and struck a tree head on at a speed of 40-50 mph. our air bags did not deploy and our seat belts did not lock up. i was in the passenger seat and was thrown forward towards the window and my wife flew up and hit the grab bar on the drivers side. i contacted jeep and was told that an air bag should not have deployed. my mechanic had told me that there was enough force to deploy the air bags. i do not feel safe in this vehicle any longer. *nm

2003 jeep liberty 4 wheel drive. air conditioner smells inside of vehicle of mildew. had vehicle serviced 4 previous occasions by dealer central valley. 5th time had serviced dealer to replace air condition unit. odor was noticed a few months after purchase. *la

The transmission has been repaired, front axle replaced due to vibrations, 5 new tires, radio, etc... this vehicle has been into the dealership numerous times for repairs to the point where the district manager for chrysler has been involved. the vehicle ran a little better for a brief period of time and the transmission continues to shift incorrectly the vibration is back and the district manager (mr. bill keuhrman states "that there is improvement", and i stated that it is funny the words he chose instead of the vehicle is running correctly. the vehicle scares me to drive because of the hesitation during shifting. *nm

On 5-6-03 i purchased a 2003 jeep liberty. on 5-29-03 i took the vehicle to the shop for the first time(995 miles) for a possible missing in the engine. tech found the a/c overfull but no miss in the engine. the a/c was discharged and recharged to the proper level. this did not correct the problem. every 8 to 10 seconds the engine surges( what feels like a miss) and more frequent with higher rpms. the second shop visit was at 1,420 miles with same problem. no fix! the third shop visit was at 1,941 miles with same problem. no fix! the fourth shop visit was at 2,089 miles with same problem. no fix! the fifth shop visit was at 2273 miles with same problem. no fix! on the fifth visit a chrys. service rep.(jim dupree) kept vehicle for two days. found the pressure in the a/c is going from 140psi to 180psi in less than a second which is what causes the jerk(miss) in the engine. cause: a sensor that controls the a/c compressor. this could possibly be causing the very low gas mileage(17mph on the highway). as of 9-12-03 i have not been informed of a fix. i was advised by the chrys. cust. service phone line the matter had been turned over to the dist. manager matt witters and he has made his offer of a trade to a different type vehicle. i have never spoke to him in person or by phone. in the past several weeks i have been trying to find out what chrys. is doing to find a fix but i have been unsuccessful. numerous attempts to contact mr. witters has failed. i was also inform mr. witters has tried to contact me but it has always been at times he was told not to call. i do not want to trade for another chrys. product that i did not want to began with or i would have purchased another type. i want them to repair the one i have, give me another liberty(without problem), or give me my money back. that is not asking too much. i have been unsuccessful in getting any response over the past month. *ph

Groaning/grinding noise in the back wheels at slow speeds, mostly when leaving a parking garage, stop lights, parking lots. brake pedals not depressed at the time. noise increases when temperature is low and humidity is high. noise started at 1,000 miles (less than a month after the date of purchase). taken to dealership who at first could not duplicate the problem. i recorded the noise several times and played to the dealership service manager. in for repairs for the same purpose over 10 times during the 1st year, without success. issue is now with chrysler engineering who appears not to be in any hurry to fix the problem. dealership does not follow-up and does not communicate on the status of this issue. also never received the recall notice. took the car in for the recall service after seing your notice, and was told it might take a couple of months for the recall notices to get out. it's been 6 months, and no recall notice as yet. other issues with this car are another rattling noise that they can't fix. a weather strip on the driver's window that had to be replaced 7 times (so far) because it keeps coming loose. excessive vibration when on the highway at speeds of 70 mph. wind noise coming from every direction, can't hardly hear the radio. radio quality is so bad i can't use it. have to play cds instead. and chrysler won't do a thing to remediate the problems. *la
