I received a recall notice several times over the past 1-2 years to get a trailer hitch put on ! after each notice i received i called a local chrysler dealership, bernard's chrysler of new richmond wi. each time i called to set up an appointment, they told me they had to order the trailer hitch and when it comes in they would call and we will schedule an appointment! this has gone on for 1-2 years with them never calling back to say they have the hitch in! i just hope we are not involved in a crash where this will turn into a legal issue....updated 05/14/15 *bf recall was completed on april 30, 2015, after waiting almost three years. updated 12/22/2015*js

Rear lift gate window unlatches on it's own, whether the vehicle is running or not. the chrysler service department was well aware of the problem, and told me that the switch in the latch can activate on it's own, and that the latch would need to be replaced. paid over $180 for a new switch and 5 months later, the window is popping open on its own again. besides letting in the cold in the winter, heat in the summer, we are also exposed to exhaust fumes when this is open. it's currently being held shut (but not sealed) with a tie strap.

Item #1 occupant restraint control (orc). i am chagrined with the tardiness of jeep/chrysler motors corporation in their tardy compliance with this recall (12v-527). originally issued on january 3, 2013, my daughter (former owner of this vehicle) visited a jeep dealer in washington dc. they said "no parts are yet available...we will contact you when they are". at a later day (may 2013) my daughter visited the local jeep dealer (courtesy motor sales, inc., altoona pa) and inquired about the problem...again "we cannot get the parts, they are not available". i purchased the vehicle from my daughter and have visited courtesy motor sales twice since i purchased (latest august 27, 2013) with the same answer "we don't have the parts available and we will contact you when they arrive"! it is inconceivable that replacement parts are not being made available for this very dangerous problem! at the present time i am unable to drive the vehicle as the air bag light is now on constantly and the recall notes that ....."a damaged computer chip could cause the airbag light to illuminate, followed almost immediately by an inadvertent deployment of the front airbags (liberty and grand cherokee)......". the recall notice continues by stating that "inavertent deployment of the airbags may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash". how many more injuries and possibilities of crashing must it take to get action on this? in conclusion, i cannot understand why your recalls are not being "tended to" in an expedient manner. i am getting "lip service" and you are being ignored. if either of these recall problems do happen, both your organization (for not enforcing in a timely manner) and chrysler motor corporation (for delaying remedy) will be the responsible parties. *tr

Learned thru internet search that there are 2 recalls on my 2002 jeep liberty: (1) unwarranted airbag deployment and (2) possible gas tank explosion if rear-ended. i called the jeep customer service line and talked to a matt, who confirmed both recall items. he said i would receive a letter from jeep telling me how to proceed, but that at this time the parts needed to fix both recall problems were back-ordered. so i am driving a car in which the air bags might explode at any time (my airbag light comes on and off at will) and if i am rear-ended there is a good likelihood that my gas tank will explode. what am i to do if one of these occurs while i'm waiting for the jeep notification and/or replacements part to be in stock? i am afraid to drive my car now, but have no other options available. what do i do? *tr

I am experiencing a rattling sound when driving uphill or downhill through driveway, traveling 5-20 miles an hour. i took my jeep 2002 liberty 2wd to get serviced and received recommended repairs: prosteer control arm with ball joint upper center, remove and install propeller shaft to replace universal joints on both ends, rear wheel bearings, tail pipe is welded to muffler, muffler does not meet design specifications and should be replaced due to exhaust leak as well, remove rack and pinion, complete rack as does not meet design specifications and is leaking. i was driving about 25 mph and my rear right side tire was smoking profusely. i pulled over and noticed the gray smoke from my tire. i took the car to check the rear breaks. they were fine but was told that i had a leak from the exhaust pipe which dripped on to that area. the car has 75,806 miles. i was told that i could loose control of vehicle and entire area can collapse during traffic due to these issues. aside from these issues, i am experiencing a whistling sound, problems with rear drivers side passenger power window regulator which produces grind-like sound. the window came off and i was told that i needed a new regulator for the window. i'm also experiencing a red stain in engine oil drippage on ground. finally, strange odor from car -odor continues to be present whether i wash the carpets and seats (smells like mold/mildew or skunk). *tr
Jeep liberty 2002 / there was a recall on the ball joints. the dealership is telling me the ball joints are bad after only 25,000 miles after the dealership did the recall repair. ball joints typically last somewhere near 100,000 miles. the car is driven on the highway in florida about 8,000 miles a year (no off road at all). i feel the recall repair was subpar and want the ball joints repaired by jeep. *tr
The rear window of my 2002 jeep liberty just fell while i was driving. i could not get it to stay up and now have it taped up. after doing some investigation of my own this seems to be a recurrent problem with people having replaced the window regulator multiple times. sometimes when the window falls the cable somehow keeps the rear door from opening. this could be a very dangerous issue for adults and children. also, with the window falling for no reason i am afraid it may fall, break, and cut someone. it seems there is a part made out of plastic that continues to break and it should be fixed. i have an appointment to get my vehicle fixed and have found that it may cost between $300 and $500 and then may break again. i am a little concerned about that.*dt
Noticed small rust bubbles developing under paint at area of seams along right side of rear window glass and also on roof on right side just below roof rack rail and rear roof mounted brake light. brought to dealer and showed service manager but said nothing could be done as i was past warranty limit for rustproof corrosion. this was about 3-4 years ago. requested contact by district manager-who finally called after multiple follow-up calls by me, and said my claim was denied. wrote letter to jeep customer relations corporate but never heard from them. rust situation has progressed and now have substantial hole in right rear corner of roof. rust spreading. car has been meticulously maintained and cleaned regularly, waxed at least 2x per year. rest of vehicle in top shape. very disappointed in jeep's lack of help. *tr
I have a 2002 jeep liberty. there are two cylinders under the hood that are supposed to keep the hood open after it is raised. mine no longer do that. this could present a serious problem as the hood could slam down unto anyone that might be looking under the hood. i luckily avoided getting injured this morning as i was looking under the hood, turned around for a second, and the hood slammed shut, narrowly missing me. there is a similar situation with the back window. although not as serious, the cylinders on the window are failing as well. *tr
Jeep liberty renegade skids and have tendency to slides quite often and especially during rain. *tr

The driver side of my jeep has been getting water on the floor. yesterday there was about 2 inches in the front and back of the drivers side the passenger side have always been dry. is there a recall on whatever stops the water from coming into the care. the floor normally only gets wet this is the worst. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph on a city street, the engine stalled, and all four doors locked and unlocked without warning. afterwards, the engine restarted. the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop who determined the wheel and speed sensor of the brakes needed to be replaced. afterward, the problems persisted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for further inspection who determined there was a rainwater leak along the driver side door and the rear hatch that corroded the electrical wiring harness. the wiring harness was replaced as well as a new rear hatch seal to prevent further leaking. the manufacturer was alerted. *ak
2002 jeep liberty consumer is seeking reimbursement *cn the consumer stated the hitch was approved using a specific code. however, the reimbursement claim was denied under the pretext, the part was not an oem approved hitch, but at present deemed ok to do the job. the consumer stated when the hitch was installed, chrysler did not have an approved manufactured hitch, as the recall did not exist back in 2006. *jb
On approx the date entered, the left rear electric window glass dropped into door frame and would no longer operate. investigation found that plastic clip on the end of the window regulator cable gets worn and breaks, and window becomes disconnected from regulator at this point. very expensive for simple fix, cost over $100 for entire new regulator, as plastic clip is not available separately. thankfully i am mechanically inclined and i was able to install it myself, as estimate from then daimler-chrysler was over $300 for repair. since that time, the other window regulator broke in the exact same fashion, and being the replacement part had gone up even further in cost, i taped window shut. before i could afford to fix other window, the one i had previously repaired broke again in an identical fashion. all three rear window regulators, both factory originals, and one factory replacement, broke within 3 years. both windows were then taped up, as i wasn't about to buy well over $200 worth of trouble prone replacement parts only to have situation take place yet again. thankfully, an aftermarket source now sells metal parts to replace defective, wear prone parts supplied by chrysler-jeep. it cost $100 to further repair both windows with aftermarket metal parts, and i have experienced no trouble since. incorrectly designed/manufactured parts supplied by chrysler-jeep are definitely the issue here. *js
Jeep liberty pulls to right, will stop dead in its tracks while in drive, hard to control, thumping noise, metal to metal grinding from front end, seat belts do not work properly, hard to start, front seat covers rippled, paint peeled on hood, tailgate, breaks only work some of the time, shakes and hard to control on speed above 35 mph, all interior weather stripping came off. same complaints from 1/7/03 ball joints replaced on recall on 1/10/03 still had pulling to right problems, shaking,. weather stripping all fell off on interior of car, acts like wheels are binding. 3/4/03 same complaints pulling to right, stops dead in its track, hard to control, wheels bind, dealer could not duplicate complaints (did not write up work order) 3/27/03 dealer installed interior weather stripping, same complaints as 1/10/03,3/4/03. again on 6/2/03 took jeep liberty to dealer took a test drive could not verify complaints. did not write up a work order. 1/16/04 jeep liberty hard to start, pulls to right, jeep shakes & vibrates hard to control, seat belts do not work, seat rippling, car stops dead it its tracks, dealer fixed lower ball joints again on 2/13/04 at 23,850 miles. 2-13-04 picked up car from dealer still had same problems" dealer stated " this is how jeeps drive" they are nuts! 11-04 dealer took test drive was still having problems claimed everything okay. did not right up a work order. 5/27/05 had massive problems brakes would go to the floor, sometime would work and other time not. took to nearest brake place pads, okay, but wheel cylinder leaked. claim it could be a intermittent failure of master cylinder, called dealer ship no part available. 7/5/05 took to dealer again with same problems,r they had not even looked at it. removed jeep and took to private auto placed,ut with intermittent problems you could replace most of the parts on the car & you may not cure the problems. *jb
On february 16, 2005 while traveling eastbound i-80 in salt lake city i hit some black ice and lost control of my 2002 jeep liberty. i was traveling freeway speeds and had a front impact along with a driver side rollover and a slide of approximately 100 yards. all of the emergency personnel that responded to my accident voiced shock and concern that none of the airbags deployed. further, i have heard that if the g-force was not great enough to deploy the side airbags, the jeep should not have rolled (i have no idea if that is true). i had, and still have, serious concerns about why my airbags did not deploy and do not trust that in the event of another accident they would deploy, regardless of the severity. i contacted jeep and asked them to look into it. they did do some investigation. however, i was told that because my jeep was not preserved for their inspection there was nothing they could do. i have sent them several e-mails explaining that i do have photo that document the damage and show that the airbag did not deploy. they have just disregarded my complaints. i also have concerns about the ease in which my jeep rolled over. this concern has also been dismissed. i would like to know that my family is going to be safe if anther unfortunate accident occurs.

I am writing to you because of serious concerns about the 2002 jeep liberty i purchased in may of 2002 from don bessette in minot, nd. i purchased the vehicle 8 months and 7,000 miles after the vehicle originally went into service which was september 11, 2001. overall the vehicle has been nothing short of a nightmare. i am unable to keep tires on the jeep because it continues to come out of alignment. the vehicle pulls to the right. i have taken it in several times to two different jeep dealers and no one has been able to fix the problem. i have had 4 sets of goodyear tires on the front of the jeep and the vehicle only has 28,000 miles on it! all of which continue to be damaged by the jeep. even after the recall of the ball joint in the front end which was replaced i continue to have the problem. the jeep has been aligned more times than i can count, yet i still have the same problem, time and time again. the vehicle is dangerous to drive because it wants to jump all over the road. chrysler has not been able to fix this problem even after 6 trips to the dealer. the vehicle pulls to the right, ruins the tires then is knocked out of alignment. it_x0019_s a vicious circle. they blame it on the tires even though i have proven four times it_x0019_s the jeep that ruins the tires. not only have i had to deal with this dangerous jeep because of not being able to keep it aligned i have also had to deal with water and mold inside the car for the past year. i have had the jeep at a chrysler dealership six times over the past year and each time i continue to leave the dealership in a 2002 jeep that is all over the road, new tires that are cupped and that reeks from mold and mildew. chrysler continues to ignore my concerns after multiple attempts to get the jeep fixed. i asked recently how to escalate the issue and i was told i couldn_x0019_t. meanwhile the jeep is still under warranty.*ak
The vehicle was involved in a roll over accident. *jb
