On average, the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 74 918 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My car stalled out on a turn and i could not move the steering wheel. i almost hit a car due to this. jeep has an open but unfixable recall on the vehicle. i have spoken to numerous people at chrysler, mopar, and dealerships. they will not help. basically, told me the fix may or may not help, but it's a temporary one. there is no real fix to it. i am too scared to drive my car now. i cannot drive my car knowing that it can stall out (as it already has), what if i hit someone and hurt my family or someone else. so pretty much, they have an open recall but will not help and there is no fix to it.

The problem started with the key fob, after locking the car the doors would unlock and lock again with out my control. then more electrical issues occurred, the lights flickered, the rear camera stopped working, and then driving the car eventually the power steering went out and it was dangerous as i was driving on the 405 free way and i was unable to pull over with out power steering.

My 2013 jeep grand cherokee overland started to smoking from the alternator and burned up almost catching fire. there was a recall that they only looked at the alternator never replacing it. i want to know more about this recall, i want to be contacted in regards to this faulty part that almost caught my jeep on fire. i feel this part should have been replaced. the jeep was running stationary when it started whistling and making a bad noice. once i started to drive it to auto zone it got worse and started smoking, making a loud whistling sound and choking like it was going to die. when i pulled into auto zone it was smoking bad, smelt electric burning and it was all coming from the alternator. i had to have it towed 60 miles back home and another 12 miles to the dealership that next monday morning because this happened on a sunday when everything was closed. if it's a recall i want it replaced, tow paid for and the time it's been out of commission.

The vehicle has stopped dead on at least 8 occasions over the last year. the car is running and moving but suddenly stops. no lights no motor noise no ability to steer off the road. it seems to occur at city speeds and streets never on a highway nothing has showed up on diagnostics and no one seems to be able to fix it. i am afraid to drive it. the jeep dealership says there is nothing wrong on diagnostics so there is nothing to fix. the dealerships head mechanic is not returning calls. i was researching and found that there may have been a recall on this issue with the same make and model including 2011 to 2014. mine is 2013. the dealership will not speak to this issue. i do not know what a takayuki recall is, i gave the last date this happend.

While driving forward my backup camera came on and would not shut off. when it did shut off, i heard this sizzling noise and the entire system went out and the check engine light came on then it went off and came back on and has been on ever since.

I've been told that in the 2013 jeep grand cherokee's are known to have computer problems! my computer was just replaced 2 years ago and when i went to get my car serviced (oil change), i was told that the check engine light is reading codes that would suggest my computer is going out again.

Push start failed to turn on and off. car stalled when going from remote start to start. windshield wipers would not turn off even with car off and key removed from vehicle. display of mph and menu disappeared.

Stationary, but upon accelerating the engine hesitates all the time. if feels like there is hesitation, somewhat, when shifting gears.

When in park... pressing the start button the engine does not turn over... it clicks and stops on its own. i await minutes and then press the start button.. the engine starts.. . it happens every time i park for a couple of hours, and start up. i replaced a battery, but it still does it. i find myself stuck often, i done the research and have other colleagues whom have grand jeep cherokees but year 2014. they were entitled to a recall for the same issues with their jeep as mine. this happened november 17 2018 and november 22nd..once each afternoon.

While driving to work one night my jeep started making a whining sound. i thought it was the heater since it was 12 degrees outside that night. i leave for work, get about 6 miles down the road and my jeep starts failing. warning lights, battery, traction control, wipers slowly go across the windshield, lights dimming. i got to a safe spot to pull over but in the process of stopping my vehicle lost all functionaloty (no breaks, power steering, lights, all electronics gone) and couldnt stop. it finally stops and i'm left with a completely dead vehicle. 12am in freezing weather while 5 months pregnant. when my boyfriend arrived to get me, he noticed a strong burning smell coming from under the hood. at this time the vehicle had sat barely out of the road in the dead of night with no hazards possible to allow other drivers to see me. we find out that there is an alternator recall on my jeep and take it into the dealership as soon as scheduling allowed. before alternator blew my jeep had zero issues. they had my vehicle for 4 days and called to say my jeep was fixed (no loaner car offered). i go up the next day, they replaced the pcm and alternator, they say nothing else. i go to start my jeep and it cranks for about 30 seconds and starts. never happened before. i go back inside to the dealer who has said nothing the last 2 days about my vehicle not running properly and they tell me it is my crank shaft position sensor and was not covered under the recall. and they said they couldnt promise the car would make it home and it was my problem. unhappy with results we call chrysler and they tell the dealership to fix that. it does not fix the problem. the problems continue and chrysler is no longer willing to fix obvious damage from their alternator failure frying the electrical system. the dealership also told me to file a "fake" fire claim on my insurance. still unresolved.

Leather on dashboard has separated and bubbled due to manufacturers defect. jeep will not fix the issue stating it is "normal wear and tear" this is unacceptable on the overland trim that is supposed to be a high end trim model

Passenger side front seat headrest deployed without warning or accident cannot get it back in place or to lock in

Recently, car started giving me a hard time to start. when it finally turns on it would sputter and turn off after a few seconds. some lights flicker at times. battery is fine. the ignition is sparking but doesn't turn the car on. sometimes car turns on with no problem and i drive it for hours and sometimes it doesn't start at all or starts and turns off right away or after 10 seconds.

Front windshield wipers would not turn off, one speed only, rear wiper not working, brights not working, had to replace a faulty total integrated power module (tipm).

Leaking power steering fluid from unknown area caused smoke from under the hood and loss of steering capabilities while in motion. also occasional ignition switch issues that occur when pressing the start button. starter keeps turning the engine over however the vehicle never completes the crankng cycle. driver has to open the door then hit the start button again before starter will stop. push cap start must then be removed and the key inserted in order to turn the engine over and crank properly

2013 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to several safety recalls and parts not being available for repair. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle had 5 recalls that exceeded a reasonable amount of time to be completed. *js

When pulling out of driveway, foot brake was applied but accelerator revved up and car lurched forward into traffic..barely avoided an accident. this is a serious safety issue. contacted original dealer who said this was not a recall item and was dismissive. i requested that my complaint be put on file.

My jeep has repeatedly shuttered and stalled when starting, both before and after the tipm recall was serviced. the locks also pop on and off repeatedly and won't stop. the rear tail light bulbs have had to be replaced multiple times (in excess of 4 times). there is also a long groan that happens when idling and sometimes when driving. the car has been unable to start properly and shakes violently before just completely shutting itself off without prompt. i have asked jeep about it 3x and they have done nothing to assist other than perform the recall after making me wait several months for the parts.

Multiple episodes of extended crank without start. also several episodes of stalling without warning while driving - 1x in drive but another time on highway at night in traffic. all episodes have happened in 2017 staring august through 'now'. car has been to dealer service 4 x without resolution. currently with dealer being operated with a "flight recorder" as they did experience problem but couldn't identify the mechanical source - they contacted "chrysler" for advice. i'm lucky, i'm driving a loaner for 3 weeks now from my dealership.

I was driving on the highway and suddenly i was hit in the back of the head. at first i thought i was hit by another car but i looked around and there was no cars around. i pulled over and looked at my headrest and it exploded and hit me in the head. i called and brought my car in to jeep who said it was the active head restraint and it is set to go off during an accident. i told them i was not in any accident. i then called jeep directly who told me they would investigate the issue and that i should leave my car at jeep. that was 3 week ago. all of my attempt to contact jeep to have them rectify the issue and replace my headrest have gone no where. i have not received any call backs and every time i call them they tell me there is nothing they can do except wait until i am contacted by jeep. this is a big safety issue as i could have run off the road an crashed.

When the vehicle is approached with 2 electronic key fobs for the same vehicle, or when two key fobs are present in the vehicle, or in close proximity, the rear liftgate can spontaneously open. after opening, the rear liftgate may or may not respond to close key presses on the keyfob(s). this could occur at any time, including while vehicle is moving, potentially allowing interior wind buffeting and allowing cargo to fall from rear of vehicle. this has happened multiple times, while vehicle was stationary and while in motion. on at least one occasion, while in motion, driver had to stop and exit the vehicle and manually close the liftgate.

Oct 7, 2014: nhtsa 14v-391 or fca p36 safety recall repair was done at a local chrysler jeep dealership. apr 30, 2015: vehicle taken to same dealership to check a buzzing sound in the rh sun visor area, service technician could not duplicate the customer complaint. may 19, 2015: sudden acrid smoke odor detected while driving, pulled to curb and turned off motor. some smoke inhalation but no burn injuries to driver. noticed black and white melted areas on rh sun visor, rh vanity mirror and rh headliner. external roof area above the rh sun visor had approximate 3" crack and the paint was split open from the extreme heat, digital photos taken. on jun 30, 2015, we learned the "the source of the fire was not related to the p36 repair, but was for another cause". on jul 10, 2015, we learned the p36 repair plastic shroud was intact and the cause of the fire was found in the wiring harness above the sun visor in the headliner area. chrysler jeep denied our warranty repair request on jul 24, 2015, because the source of the fire could not be traced back to a factory defect in materials or workmanship. on jul 27, 2015, our local chrysler jeep dealer decided to repair our vehicle, at their cost, because we were valued customers, but the decision came the same day a letter was read by the dealership general manager that said we may pursue a remedy using the california lemon law. we found there were more than 91 other similar incidents in 2011-2014 jeep grand cherokee and dodge durango vehicles, and at least 8 more experienced fires after the p36 safety recall repair had been completed. we encourage nhtsa to have fca install circuit breakers in vanity lamp wiring harnesses for 2011-2014 jeep grand cherokee and dodge durango vehicles. our vehicle repair was completed after 13 weeks, on aug 18, 2015

Reference important safety recall r09/nhtsa 14v-115, it is referenced as nhtsa recall number 15v-115 in safercar.gov. i received the safety recall notification 04/10/2015. as of today, 09/04/2015, i have not received a 2nd notification nor when talking with the dealership is there any timetable or directives to remedy the safety recall. it is described that the internal fuel pump relay may be faulty but there is no replacement at the time of notice. when is the remedy part expected to be available and when can i expect a follow-up notification of any kind?

Not sure of the dates. rear view mirror electrical recall repaired. seat on drivers side gets very hot/must turn it off. cruise control worked randomly for awhile, now doesn't work at all. still waiting for recall letter to let me know what to do about latest recall on vehicle stopping suddenly without warning causing a crash! it's my only vehicle and am afraid to drive it!

My vehicle has 4 open recalls as listed below. i have presented it many months ago to two different jeep dealers, dick myers, harrisonburg, va and billy bender, cumberland, md (where i purchased it). at both dealerships, they claimed a national backlog for recall parts and that they would order them and call me. i have never heard from anyone. i suspicion that this is a financial decision by jeep, not the dealerships. i think they are delaying, hoping to not have to make these replacements. i want to declare the jeep a lemon due to this and force them to buy it back since they can't seem to fix it. i want the government to put some teeth in these recalls. what good are they if they are not going to be repaired? number of open recalls: 4 nhtsa recall number: 14v-154 recall date: may 16, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p14 nhtsa recall number: 14v-391 recall date: august 19, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p36 nhtsa recall number: 14v-634 recall date: december 1, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p60 nhtsa recall number: 15v-115 recall date: april 10, 2015 manufacturer recall number: r09

In april my car started randomly not starting. it's happened 4 times and been in the shop once for this issue. it is going again monday 6/16 for the same issue. it will randomly not start, it randomly tries to stall on me. it will randomly not respond to pushing the power button. it will randomly make a high pitched squealing noise. it is very scary when it tries to stall because i can be riding down the interstate at 65 mph when it happens or sitting still at a red light. i drive over 120 miles per day and i cannot be stranded or stall out in the middle of the road. it's going to the shop again monday to address the issue for the second time. makes the 5th time the car has been in the shop for various issues since i've had it less than 15 months. *js
