We have classified the 3 complaints from 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
Engine stalling during deceleration due to oem spark plugs thus no power steering or power brakes when it is needed the most. champion spark plugs has 2 different spark plugs with same part number re14mcc4. this is the chrysler oem supplier ans part number for hemi engine spark plugs through 2007. one of the two spark plugs is incompatible with the hemi engine and leads to stalling while decelerating. the consumer has no information on which one to use. national automotive parts distributors have not been made aware of the difference. chrysler has an internal memo ("star case") that documents the issue but has not released it to the public. i was shown the memo but was not allowed to have a copy. no tsbs exists. no recall either. nhtsa told me they do not handle this. they advised me to contact the ftc. the ftc took my complaint but referred me to the dot as they were concerned for consumer safety. i have side by side pictures of the 2 spark plugs with the same part number and would be willing to supply them. i also have one of each plug in my possession. there is visual differences. this issue occurred in a 2007 jeep grand cherokee with the hemi engine. it started to stall while decelerating after the 60,000 mile service interval. did champion change manufacturing process? did chrysler request a change due to a discovered issue after production? if it was champions fault one would think that chrysler would issue a tsb as they would have no responsibility for the issue. since they are not releasing the info are they the ones that requested the change? the correct spark plugs were changes and the issue has not occurred since. *tr
I purchased my pre-owned 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4 less than a month ago. i have had 4 instances of it not cranking. i took it back to the dealership where they replaced two sensors and reprogrammed the computer. i got my car back on friday. today is monday and it isn't cranking again. all electrical accessories work fine but the car will not crank. the battery, alternator, and starter tested fine. the suspension makes a god- awful squawking sound every time i drive anywhere. *tr
Auto transmission gear shift not shifting into gears correctly; loss power around curves; sometimes engine light comes on; sometimes all gear indicators come on dash; feels as though can't accelerate when entering onto highway or passing. nothing done yet. called dealer, online searches. very very many same-similar online & very expensive repair $700+. appears to be defective part & should be recall/dealer replace/repair!! *tr
1. my 2007 jeep grand cherokee (5.7 hemi; 64k miles) was due for a tune up. i purchased replacement spark plugs that were recommended from a local auto parts retailer and changed them. 2. subsequently the vehicle began to stall frequently while driving (approx 5 times in 25 miles traveled). this happened while driving at highway speeds, at stoplights and when making left hand turns. 3. vehicle was taken to dealer for service as engine light had also been on during entire time. dealer worked on trying to find problem for 3 weeks. after consulting a chrysler engineer they finally discovered that the aftermarket platinum tip spark plugs were causing interference with the vehicle powertrain control module and causing the engine to stall. dealer replaced the spark plugs and the problem was corrected. i went back to my parts supplier and they had never heard of this problem before. i also notified chrysler of my complaint that consumers and parts supply retailers should be made aware of this parts incompatibility issue that they are obviously aware of because it is a potentially serious safety hazard. they have not responded to me. *tr
Car will decelerate, and will not respond to depressing of the accelerator pedal. occurs at various speeds and traffic conditions. contacted dealership, began to describe issue, without describing the make and model, and the repair-shop was able to then tell me the make and model of my vehicle without me previously disclosing. (already had gear shift module replaced once before, and since the issue occurred 14 months later, dealership refuses to cover expense of replacement.) this is a very dangerous issue, and as stated before, occurs at various times and traffic conditions, and there are no preceding warnings or other indicators that foreshadow the occurrence. car is now at 42,000 miles, yet it is in need of a 3rd shift module, seems highly unlikely. dealership needs to declare a recall or when the customer has the problem, they fix it without further expense to the consumer. i bought this jeep new, and its my 4th one, however, i am extremely disappointed with their customer service, and the quality of vehicle they are producing, and will not ever purchase their vehicles again. *tr
Today while driving on a highway at approximately 35-40mph my vehicle stalled. i had come to a complete stop and was awaiting a traffic light change. when the light changed and i stepped on the accelerator the vehicle began to hesitate and jerk and the esp/bas light, malfunction indicator light (check engine) and a message stating transmission over temp came on. i was in the left lane and immediately put on my flashers. the driver behind realized that i was in trouble and put on his as well. after i was able to roll to the shoulder, i immediately turned the vehicle off. after waiting approximately 5mins, i restarted the vehicle and continued to drive slowly and carefully to my office since i was just 2 blocks from work. this experience scared me because had this happened while i was driving at the 60-65 mph rate on this very busy highway, i could have been hurt. after reading several of the other complaints, i can also relate to the complaint about the tires having had to replace a broken stem after owning the vehicle only 2 days and i currently still have water leaking into my vehicle on raining days on the passenger side and now through the lights. i drive on the highway daily and after today's stall out, i am afraid to drive this vehicle. i called the dealership today and explained my issues and told the service manager about all of the lights and he told me the car was probably cold and if the lights don't go out i can bring it in on saturday. well today is wednesday and i will not drive that car again. since the dealership is quite a distance from my home, i will have the car towed so that it can be checked out. i am very uncomfortable with the idea of ever driving this vehicle again. i transport children as part of my job from time to time and i could never forgive myself if something was to happen to them while we are riding in this vehicle. *tr
The tire jack is unstable for the vehicle. i have had mine collapse and not tall enough for the vehicle. i watched a man almost get pinned by a jack failure on a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. mine is a 2007. does anyone check this equipment. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the air condenser, located below the center of the bumper, has a very large opening. the large opening allowed a rock or some other foreign large particle to puncture the air condenser. as a result, the air conditioning system failed. the vehicle has not been repaired because the failure was not covered under warranty. the manufacturer has not provided any assistance. the contact has pictures of the failed component. the failure and current mileages were 13,000.
