Nhtsa veh rec # 14v-4387 -still unresolved due to part availability - there have been more than two-dozen instances where jeep vehicle has shut itself down rendering all driver safety / control features (brakes, steering, air-bags) completely off! this vehicle failure happens at different speeds, direction (fwd-rev) while turning, going straight, uphill & down etc - this jeep vehicle will shut off without warning since the key is in the on position, accessories (radio, wipers, fans etc) will remain on making it very difficult to detect that the engine has stopped and there is a zero engine power. it's not until you realize you've lost propulsion (passing or going uphill), slowing down, or loss of power assist steering and breaking, that you begin to react and try to restart the jeep. the first reaction is often panic driven breaking and getting out of harms way. today (3/19/2015) was my worst experience yet! driving ~35 mph on 2 lane road w/ mod-heavy morning traffic around me (7:15am) and this jeep shuts itself off. the car directly behind me swerved to avoid me as i had no power, and could not safely get out of the flow of traffic! i find it totally reprehensible that as of yet, there are no parts available to fix thus known defect! this is a 2005 vehicle - w/ a recall date of sept 3 2014, more than six months ago, and as of today, because it's my primary vehicle, i risk my, & family lives, all the while jeep and the us gov't have known about its defect. i expect jeep and the us gov't will defend and hold me (and any other drivers of this vehicle) harmless against any undesired events caused by this defect. please respond if possible. *tr

Vehicle is an automatic, suddenly attempted to manually shift into a lower gear. the vehicle suddenly slowed down to 5 miles an hour and the rpms started to red line. check engine light came on and stayed on all day. this has happened numerous times in the last few months without warning.
While driving approximately 40mph my check engine light started dinging and blinking. within a few seconds of this the engine powered down ( rpm read 0). all the electrical components stayed on (radio, lights, ect) then within 10 seconds the engine started back up. when the vehicle restarted itself the esp showed being disabled and the rpm's where higher than normal. any acceleration/deceleration the check engine light would ding and blink. this has happened multiple times since it first occurred. i have taken it to two mechanics to be serviced. the vehicle displayed random codes at both shops. *tr

This vehicle has quit running several times since we have owned it while drivingthe engine will just quit. we can move the shift lever in neutral and it will start back up, but this is still dangerous, especially when my wife is driving. it has happened to her 3 times now and happened to me 2 times in about last 5 years. *tr
I have been waiting and waiting to get this problem rendered. i received a recall notice about the faulty ignition switch and the slew of possible fatal consequences should anything occur. the recall notice is p41/nhtsa 14v-438, and ive been told i would receive a second recall notice in september 2015. well, im still waiting!!. meanwhile i am driving a potentially dangerous vehicle and have been for quite awhile. i have no choice. i have already noticed my check engine light stays lit on my dash, as well as my airbag light as well indicating that i already have issues occurring that are according to the recall notice is linked to this problem. i want this fixed. i cant afford to buy another vehicle and need the one i have. however, am i suppossed to get seriously injured or killed first? then what,? a family member receives a check? who cares about the money if i'm killed? i am seriously annoyed and concerned, please render this issue. and i'm sick of hearing "we dont have the part". i need this vehicle fixed now!!! its been too long already.
This is reguarding the safety recall p41/nhtsa14v-438. parts are still not available to fix this. i have spent numerous hours, once 3 hours waiting to speak with a rep. no addituonal information has been sent out by jeep. this is appauling! since the letter i have made several attempts to fix the recall and dealers cant even get the part. please help. *js
I have had issues with this vehicle recalls p73 and 41 for over a year. the truck has been sitting in my driveway for a year!!! i have notified jeep numerous times, and yet the part has not been produced. i have been left with no car for 1 year. i have had to pay for uber, taxis, rentals, buses, trains, and have walked everywhere due to this recall. it has drained my battery. jeep has not once compensated me. every time i call, they say next month. this had been for one year now! the car lost power while driving on the interstate on 66, 395, and 495 interstates. what is it going to take for jeep to do something? i had one rep said we'll reimburse me, how are you going to reimburse me, for a part that's not even in production. i reported this issue to the jeep dealer where i reside last year about the lights flickering and the please fix the electrical brake system error, the refused , because they stated, they never saw it. i was told i can rent a car for them, on my own dime for 40.00 a day!! i shouldn't have to when it's jeep's recall. i have lost out on jobs, because of transportation. this is really serious.

In route to open gym for my 3yr old, after exiting expressway in traffic approx 5-7mins, suv shuts off. after it shut off it would nt start for approx 4 mins, it did not fully crank yet cranked, in a putting pattern, i was able to pull it out of traffic into an office park located at 3525 piedmont rd ne atl, ga 30308 in front of building 7 entering from piedmont rd. once parked, my temp gauge was on hot panned hard right, the suv would not start, i allowed it to cool down to halfway, during that time i made 4 attempts to start the suv. each time it would putter, or sound as if it was out of gas. once suv cooled to half i attempted to start and it started in the same putter fashion as before, yet appearing to catch as if it was start normal, all the while smoking out the back a slight pop could be heard coming from underneath the front of the vehicle, yet as it appeared to start i would give it gas with hopes that it would catch and then it just shut off and started smoking and there was a noticeably different odor that my 3 yr old and i smelled, from there i got out of the truck to see if the smoke was coming from the radiator, since the temp gauge was just on hot, i notice there was a fire burning in the lower back of the engine region, i immediately lowered the hood due to not having anything to prop it open with, i immediately got my 3 yr old son out of the vehicle to safety, i return to get his car seat and anything to hopefully salvage, i then return to the suv to put out the fire out as best i could, i appeared to out on both sides and just smoking badly. called a ride to take me and my 3yr old home. the following day i checked the suv, the engine area, hood, front windshield had completely burned, there is no hood area, the hood is in the windshield, and everything else forward chard and melted, to the yellow pieces, i was able to take photos, and a video. *tr
While driving the lights on the instrument cluster, radio, ac and lights shut off as well as loss of power steering and engine shut off. including the brakes, accelerator, and all electrical system. leaving me with absolute no control over the vehicle. i noticed the ignition key had slipped into the forward off position while the vehicle was in motion, creating a deadly hazard as it results in loss of all functionality of the vehicle. when i tried to restart the vehicle, my vehicle will not start up right away has to turn the key couple of times to get my vehicle started. *tr

I bought my gd cherokee used with 71k miles. i just had my first oil change before heading out on a camping trip for the weekend. on the return trip, i had just turned onto the highway (55 mph zone). i am 6'4" tall. the previous owner was shorter than me. the seat was in the wrong position (i now know). while switching from gas pedal to brake pedal, my knee hit the key in the ignition. the car turned off. i immediately reached for the key and turned the car back on. it lunged the way a manual transmission dose when the clutch is let out too quick. i moved my seat back away from the wheel. now i drive it from farther back, which means i need to sit up straighter, which means my head hits the ceiling often. i have the limited edition and i love everything about it except the seat can't go down far enough for me to drive it comfortable without turning the car off which has got to be horrible for the car. *tr
As i was trying to stop at a stop sign and pressing the brake, the engine revved up and i kept pressing harder, but did not ever come to a complete stop. *tr
It has happened on several occasions now; however, the first time my truck completely shut off, i was driving ~35mph then slowed down a bit to turn and suddenly had no power. it started back up with out issue, but it was terrifying, as i was in the middle of an intersection. most recently, i was driving with my wife and kids in the truck and a similar incident occurred. i was driving ~25 mph when the engine just shut off. again, it started on the first attempt. *tr
After 13v175000 recall - 2005 jeep gc still slips into neutral while running. also, sometimes when moving from drive to reverse, it "stalls" in neutral and won't move into reverse. so far, this has only happened when idling at stop lights and in parking garages. putting the car in park, shutting it off, and turning it back on reset things - but i'm worried that this will happen while driving. took it to the dealership - they can't find anything wrong with it. *tr
April 2014. stopped at a store, went to leave and battery wouldn't turn over; 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo did this a couple more times leaving me stranded (just weeks after buying it) it seemed to fix itself after my mechanic cleaned battery post and re tightened cables. a couple of days ago vehicle started acting up again. didn't want to start and when it did it would run great and all the sudden my traction control, brake lights, engine etc... (i think most the lights that come on in dash when you first start car). then today. i was driving at 30mph when jeep started cutting out; lights on dash would flash; clock would reset to 12; i'm trying to stop and my brakes are very stiff; power steering extremely stiff. a lady pushed me out of the road, i put car into park. she thought i needed to be pushed further but them the car would not come out of park. after waiting for over an hour for aaa to not show, another lady offered to try and jump jeep. jeep started right up. i had 10 miles to drive the whole time dash lights coming off and on; steering all but freezing up and brakes too. before i left my spot just off the road that i had been pushed to , i tried several times to start jeep. it wouldn't start wo assistance but i noticed everytime i cranked the key the clock radio did reset to 12. i'm hoping it's the ignition recap so i can get back to a safe vehicle for me and my toddler daughter very soon. *tr

While departing philadelphia airport , entering ramp to access interstate 95, the vehicle lost all power, engine, power steering and brakes would not work. head lights were still functioning. we physically pushed the vehicle off the highway, so other drivers and municipal bus drivers would stop screaming at us. the vehicle would not start. after calling the police and a tow truck, about 30 minutes later , the vehicle started. we had the vehicle towed to our home 100 miles away in new jersey. the vehicle would start and remain running for about 15 minutes, then would shut down again, same issues. several sensor codes came up on a readout but nothing has been done to the vehicle. at this point it is functioning, but we are afraid to drive the vehicle. any help or recall info on this matter would be greatly appreciated. *tr
While driving on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly shifted itself into 3rd gear. paddle shifting was inoperable and vehicle will up or down shift. error codes given are p0700, and p0406. problem seemed to resolve after restarting vehicle, but then shifts again after a couple of minutes. now vehicle stays in 3rd gear permanently. fluid levels ok, guessing it is electrical/computer related issue based on internet research. taking to dealer soon to have final drive controller new software installed based on recall #n23. hoping it is related to that issue. *tr
Jeep shudders during engagement /acceleration. ac evaporator condensate water causing shuddering in vehicle. vehicle appears to want to shut off at stop light, rpm's drop drastically and shudders at take off
There has been many occasions upwards of 13 or 14 times where my vehicle will not start. my battery has a full charge, i have fuel in the tank it just wont start. the only way around this to get my vehicle to start is to do a hard reset and unhook the battery cable for 30 seconds and hook it back up then and only then will it start. then it will start the next 15 or so times and then i have the same problem it wont start. same deal, battery is great, fuel in the tank, just wont start.

I went to change the oil and noticed only 2 quarts were drained from the engine instead of 5. i use mobile1 fully synthetic motor oil and since then im averaging losing a quart of oil a month. the oil light does not come on, when it gets low, i just noticed the engine was knocking. i searched for answers online and found out that this happens on all 3.7 lt engines around 75,000 miles chrysler makes. why is there no recall? *tr

While driving my vehicle it just shut down without any warning and i had to guide it to the side of the road to restart it.thankfully i was driving in a neighborhood where i could do this, it did this a couple of times in one outing, now its every so often. so far it has not done it while i'm out on an interstate but i try to stay close to home til it can be fixed. plus when i have on my lights my dashboard lights blink on and off . then here recently the air bag light started flashing and a few days ago it stayed on and hasn't shut off. i've talked to the jeep dealership about this and they said that they don't have the parts to fix the recall item p41/ nhtsa 14v-438 and i'm liable for the airbag issue. from what i have read online all of these issues are connected. i received a letter on the recall a few months back but have not heard anything back on when i can get it fixed at the dealership. please advise on what steps i should take to get the parts for this recall so i can enjoy driving my vehicle again. thanks again *tr

The vehicle was parked and i attempted to start the vehicle. the car was operating properly 3 minutes prior to attempted starts. the first attempt, the engine fired up and revved up but immediately died. subsequent attempts were similar. after about 4 or 5 attempts, there was a large rattling noise and the engine became impossible to start. after towing the vehicle to a mechanic and having them open up the engine, we found that the valve seat had dropped out from the cylinder heads and must have caused the engine to operate incorrectly. the valve seat had shattered into many tiny pieces, which most likely caused the rattling noise. upon investigation i have found that the valve seat dropping out is a common issue on the 5.7l hemi engine in my jeep as well as other vehicles manufactured by dodge and chrysler. this is unsafe and should require the immediate action of chrysler to recall these vehicles and permanently fix the problem with their valve seats. *tt
I am the owner of a 2005 jeep grand cherokee with a 4.7 v8. the exhaust manifold bolts (qty 2) on the passenger side sheared resulting in exhaust manifold leak (possibly due to heat or under engineering rust was not a factor). i have made chrysler aware of this issue as many people have experienced this issue with the 4.7 v8 found not only in the grand cherokee but the commander, and dodge durango as well. a leaking exhaust manifold can cause engine compartment fires. this issue can also result in toxic fume inhalation through cabin air intake ports. the dealership quoted $1300 to replace (8) bolts that should never fail. when i called chrysler, they were not interested in my safety, and excused the issue by stating that "cars are just not made like they used to be". i find this ridiculous due to the fact that this issue can result in death, oxygen deprivation, as well as server burn in the event of fire. *tr
Well they say third times a charm...or will it be death? the first incident happened when i was alone in the vehicle as i was making a left hand turn across traffic my jeep just shut down leaving me powerless..by that i mean nothing no steering no breaks no nothing! thank the gods there was no oncoming traffic at the time. the second time was a bit more nerving as my 6 year old son and myself were on the highway keeping up with the 65-70 mph flow of cars, suv's & tractor trailers when all of the sudden my engine power just slumbered off to a crawl. if i had been in one lane over and 3 seconds behind we would not be here today to tell this unsightly story! again thank the gods for looking over us or it would be another statistic on the road and another young child left without a mother (my daughter that wasn't with me at the time)so i ask how many must die or get injured before manufactures man up to their mistakes? the loss of money is nothing it can be replaced but lives can not!!!

Engine stalls when coming to a stop. this stalling at a stop only happens a few minutes into driving and disappears after about 1/2 hr of driving. the stall can be prevented by pushing the (automatic) transmission into neutral. (i.e. this looks to be a transmission control problem, not an engine idle problem). jeep dealer had car for two days and was able to reproduce stall but could not find cause and fix the problem. there is no check-engine light on. *tr

The 3.7l motor has blown a head. after researching online i see that this is a common problem for this motor but jeep won't do anything or admit the problem. i spent over $20,000 on a american vehicle because i thought they were a trusted name. i should not be forced to spend $3000 getting a new motor because jeep won't stand behind their product. *tr
