I understand that the nhtsa is requiring fca to extend the $100 gift card offer to owners of these suv or to install a rear trailer hitch to prevent gas tank explosion in the event of a rear collision. i received a card from jeep, called the hotline but they are telling me that there are no remedies available for the 2004 grand cherokee. are there any other recourses available to me or is the iformation i am getting from fca correct?
On 09/12/2015, i was rear ended at a stop light in a grand cherokee with the factory towing pkg.ie fact. trailer hitch and was trapped in the vehicle until assistance arrived. my replacement vehicle, also a grand cherokee, has no trailer hitch. after reading several articles about the gas tank fire recall, i was very interested in getting this recall done. i went to bertera chrysler, jeep, dodge expecting a trailer hitch to be installed as a protective device for the fuel tank. to my surprise i was told that the recall did not apply to my vehicle. recall number n45. when i was rear ended every thing seemed to perform correctly. the trailer hitch bent down to protect the fuel tank, the frame buckled, and the body stretched between the doors. i seems to me that with the exception of the driver door, everything performed as it should to absorb energy from the car striking mine. the driver's door was jammed closed because the top front edge of left rear door overlapped the rear edge of the driver door. this caused me, the driver, to be trapped in the front seat until my passenger came around the car and forced the driver door open. had the fuel tank ruptured and caught fire i would have been in dire straights. so while this is not a complaint about a new issue, it is a complaint about how the dealer handled my recall. everything i have read leads me to believe that chrysler agreed to install hutches on all the vehicles that did not have the towing pkg. or a mopar aftermarket hitch.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the interior front and rear passenger side power windows failed to operate. in addition, the doors failed to unlock which included the lift gate. the failure occurred intermittently with the front driver's side. the vehicle was currently being diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
I just got a copy of the n47 rear structural reinforcement recall. you people have got to be kidding me. who took the payoff on this one? there is absolutely no difference between the 1998 jeep grand cherokee and the 2004 jeep grand cherokee when these vehicles get hit from behind when the gas tank explodes. the 1999-2004 need to be included under the n45 recall same as the 1998 and earlier models. as we all know the 1998 and earlier jeep grand cherokees are a fading model due to the age of the vehicles. meaning that chrysler will not have to spend as much money to fix these 1998 and earlier models as they would if you included the 1999-2004 models which should be included because they have exactly the same structural problem and will be on the road longer. my goodness this is common sense. chrysler needs to do the right thing. i want my 2004 jeep grand cherokee recalled and fixed. dealers have quoted me pricing between $600.00-$750.00 to have this fixed correctly on my model. how about having jeep just give me the parts and i will fix it myself. (that's a joke) anyway forward this to chrysler/jeep for me and make sure my complaint gets registered, so that when this rear structural mishap happens to me and i survive the incident everyone will have copies when the lawsuits begin. thank you very much for reading this.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I lifted the hood to check the washer fluid level. as i turned to pick up the refill bottle to fill the car's washer bottle the hood fell on its own. had my hands or head still been under the hood i would have sustained significant injuries. the hood struts now fail every time and i have to use a stick to hold the hood up. i went to action motors (jeep dealership in danbury, ct) on 1/2/09 and discussed with service managers. they said failure of the hood struts is expected and is common - especially in cold weather. in fact, they told me their service policy for all mechanics is to install a vice grip on all grand cherokees hood struts before any work begins -- even if the owner has not reported this issue. failures occurred too often to allow their people to work under the hood without the vice grip in place. while they may have advance knowledge of this hazardous issue, most car owners do not. i asked if jeep had a recall on this issue and was told "no." my car is only 4 years old. *tr
1. raised hood to change oil. 2. gas struts that hold hood open failed to hold hood open. fortunately, no one was in the path of the hood. *tr
Seat trac and frame failed on 2004 jeep grand cherokee. *tr
Gas/hydraulic struts will not hold hood open - i raised hood to clean around it and it came back down on my hands. fortunately , i was fast enough to pick them up to "almost" catch the hood and not do any significant damage to them. but still - car is only 3 years old and had less than 20,000 miles! *tr
Raised hood of 2004 jeep grand cherokee. had hand on fender while looking in right front wheel well. hood closed without warning, upon apparent failure of gas-strut hood supports, mashing and trapping two fingers between hood and fender. understand from dealer others struck on head upon failure of hood struts. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a recall notice regarding the weather stripping component on the windows. the vehicle was repaired, but she later discovered that the weather stripping was rusting on all four windows and doors. the dealer could not assist because the recall repair was previously performed and could not be made under warranty. the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown. the failure mileage was 18,000 and current mileage was 35,000. updated 02-23-09 *bf updated 02/24/09. *jb

I was pushed off the road during a snowstorm by a semi tractor/trailer and hit a cement barrier on i480 with my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. upon estimating the damages, i was told that i had left front rail damage that requires replacement. after 3 weeks the repair facility was unable to locate a replacement rail for my vehicle (they were told that the part was unavailable). on 5/11/05 i called daimler-chrysler myself to find out what is going on, and why there are no rails available for a 2004 (one model year old) vehicle. i was told by the 1st person i spoke with (eric) that the reason a rail could not be found is because they are defective with welding issues and being recalled. i asked why i wasn't notified by daimler chrysler and he didn't know. he took down all my information and said that he was sending my file to their parts department to do a world wide search for a rail and he would get back to me in a couple days. by late afternoon on 5/13/05 i had not heard back from daimler chrysler, so i called back. i told my story to 3 more people that i was transferred around to, and the last person i spoke to was geoff, he was rude, tried to intimidate me, telling me that i had no business calling there, i was doing the legwork for my insurance company, and i told him that i had every right to call as i am the vehicle owner. bottom line, they can produce a rail for my vehicle as early as june 1, 2005, but no guarantee that it will be that date. i feel that i have gotten the total run around and have been forced to use a rental car for 4 weeks now, because of daimler chrysler's failure to provide parts for a 2004 model year vehicle which i understand they should have in stock for a 10 year period.(by federal law). i am totally frustrated by their lack of assistance and empathy for my situation, and want to know what recourse i may have against them or the government for failure to produce a part for a car that is one model year old.
The floor boards are leaking, and the dealers cannot determine where the water is coming from after checking the heater and the air conditioner . the seals and shocks were replaced. *nm
I have been having a problem with my jeep from the time i got it with the quality of the paint job when i got my jeep from abernathy in lincoln on north carolina i had noticed that the paint job had some light swirls. *ak the sales rep told me i could bring back the car and get it cleaned and that would probable take care of the swirls as it was just need of a hand wax. a few days later i waxed that car by hand with a recommended hand wax from the local napa dealer. the problem did not get any better and i noticed the situation more after i made the car shine. i also started to see the bars on the bottom of the jeep were chipping. i took the jeep back to abernethy and got with the service manager named barry. berry said he would have to contact the service rep to come in and look at the situation. barry called me back and said that the rep did not need to look at the bars and that jeep was not interested in taking care of the chipping as that was not covered under warranty and the bars were going to get chipped as they were bush guards. i informed him that my jeep had not been off road and that these chips were from simply getting in and out of the jeep with my wife's shoes. barry informed me to bring in the jeep and they would take the bars off and repaint them but the rep really had to be the one to look at the paint on the car. i waited for my car to be serviced with oil change and walked around the lot. i looked at other jeeps as well as other cars on the lot and noticed they also had many swirls and they were very noticeable under the bright sun. there was another sales man walking around and i ask him to take a look at the swirls and if he had any suggestions of how to get rid of them. the salesman i spoke to and showed was the sales manager at abernethy and he said he could only contact the rep also. the 1st appointment was set up with a day notice ...
Height of vehicle upon entrance is not sufficient enough. every time i get into the vehicle i have to curve my body to the left in order so that i do not hit my head, and it has had a devastating effect on my lower back and my upper back. i am 5'3", how are people taller than myself getting into the vehicle without hitting their heads? i do not consider this a dealer issue, it is more a manufacturing issue!*ak
