Dt: the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo. a piece of the fan broke off and went into the radiator, causing damage to the radiator. the fan and radiator had to be replaced. the mechanic told her a piece of the fan blades broke off, destroying the radiator. he said the fan must have stalled to have possibly caused this problem. this incident occurred on august 22, 2005. the contact was pulling out of a parking space at a low speed when this happened. *ak

Heard plastic breaking, thought i had run over something. then loud breaking plastic noise, then coolant low light came on, then engine began smoking and over heating. front fan came apart and broke through radiator. had to replace fan module and radiator. replaced thermostat and flushed cooling system. *jb

2002 grand cherokee jeep started making an unusual noise when first starting the car and when idling. mechanic said that the cooling fan needs to be replaced. as this car only has 41,000 miles on it, i am upset to have this problem. this is the third jeep that we have owned and have never incurred this problem. *nm

Cooling fan on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee broke and destroyed the fan, shroud and fan motor! *nm

Fan blade broke and penetrated the protective shroud on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 six cylinder. i have not taken it for repair. i am taking the car in 8/15/05. i did not notice any thing wrong until the vehicle over heated and i looked under the hood. *jb

Under normal driving conditions, and the day after the vehicle had been serviced by an authorized jeep dealer, the fan blade broke apart damaging the radiator and shroud. the fan, radiator, and shroud all had to be replaced. the vehicle as 68,000 miles on it. *nm

Dt: the contact owned a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. on june 30, 2005 the electric fan on the engine came apart and shot through the radiator. cost about $900 for repairs. the mechanic said this was the third jeep he had repaired in the last couple of weeks for the same problem. the manufacturer was contacted and said that it was not covered under warranty.*ak *jb

The cooling fan blade just broke while stopped at a light. it made the car thump i thought someone hit us but the fan blades broke the fan shrode and put dents all in the radiator and broke the fan guard. this vechile has had many of the same problems due to the electrical system. we lease the jeep and have put $$$ in it because they would not take it back as a lemon with in the 2 years. i still hear a beep coming from under the dash that jeep never found the problem or fixed it. i just had the fan relay changed because it went out. with in the first 2 years i had it in the shop for a variety of electrical problems i have all the paper work. i am afraid the jeep will catch on fire or cause an accident. i've also checked many other things that were issues with the jeep. leaking shocks and transmission pan and emissions is now leaking. the check engine light stays on and every time i get it checked it's a different problem. i'm out of my warranty now but there have been so many different things wrong. the dealer replaced 2 of 4 leaking shocks they left the transmission pan loose when they replaced a part in the transmission. this jeep is unsafe for the road it has lost power in the past while traveling so they replaced the battery twice with in a month.

When i put my car in drive, there was a loud bang - sounded like the car was shot, so i pulled over. coolant was leaking out and there were pieces of black plastic all over the ground. when i lifted the hood, i found that only half my fan was attached. the other half apparently broke off and blew threw my radiator. i had to replace the fan, motor, radiator, the fan shroud and coolant. the garage said they had never seen anything like it. this was an expensive repair with no warning signs. the car is pampered and maintained well. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph, there was a loud clunking noise heard from the front end of the vehicle. this was followed by the temperature warning light illuminating, and the engine overheating. the vehicle was towed to a service dealer, who determined that the cooling fan had separated. the radiator fan, the shroud and the radiator were all replaced. there was a nhtsa recall # 06v199000, which pertains to the engine cooling fan. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.

I had the exact same problem as below. had it repaired and the dealership says they repair 2 - 3 every week and they even gave me a copy of the service bulletin that jeep puts out to their mechanics. service manager says he has complained to jeep about recalling but they told him it was too expensive of a part and not a safety issue. 2002 grand cherokee limited has a known problem with the dual climate control system. a door in the system routinely breaks or strips as soon as the vehicle has passed the manufacturers warranty end date. one side(drivers) of the system works as advertised, however the passenger side will only blow extremely cold air. the cost to rectify this anomaly is around $800 at a jeep dealership. from reading several automotive repair forums on the internet, this problem is occurring in a very high number, probably percentage of vehicles. supposedly jeep is aware of the defective part used in the system and is not doing anything about it.*ak

I received safety recall f25-electric radiator fan, back in november of 2006. i called the dealership to schedule repair and was told that there was a national backorder on the part. i was informed that i would be contacted, once the part was received. i have made several calls to the dealership, to try and schedule the repair and have not gotten an appointment as of yet. *jb

The radiator electric cooling fan suffered a catastrophic failure. the fan blew apart with a loud bang as car was placed into drive to leave a parking lot. the owner thought he had hit something and checked the exterior of car. the disintegration of the fan blade blew a hole through the radiator fan shroud which was probably the loud bang. this caused coolant to overheat and air conditioner to stop functioning when car was stationary. this was not noticed on highway where most driving is done and car was driven on a 700 mile trip before failure was detected. if hood had been open at time of this failure an injury could have occurred to individual in vicinity of shroud. the owner replaced both fan and shroud as dealer was too busy the day failure was discovered. no other engine damage has been noticed. the jeep 5 star dealer showed no interest in this failure. a member of a golfing fore some told me that the same thing happened on his 2001 jeep grand cherokee a month later at approximately the same mileage. his cooling fan disintegration punctured a hole in his radiator. my parts were thrown out with trash but digital photographs of damage are available. *jb

My jeep experienced the failure in the nhtsa campaign id 06v199000 prior to the recall. at the time, i contacted chrysler to see if this was warranted part. they advised me it was not and that i should have the car repaired on my own. in 6/06, i saw the announcement of the recall. i have contacted chrysler numerous times regarding the recall and been told that my vin # is not included in the recall and that they cannot help me. what recourse do i have to be reimbursed for my out of pocket expenses for a product failure that was recalled? *jb

I was driving on sr 70 when i felt my jeep slugging then i looked at the gauge and noticed that it was all the way to the boiling point. then i pulled over to the side of the road because i wasn't sure what had happened. called my dad he came and looked at my jeep and found that the fan had busted we had been able to put enough water in it to get it to wal-mart where we came to the conclusion that it had a hole in the radiator. there was pieces everywhere from the shroud. the next day had it towed to firkins in bradenton it was out of warranty so i ended up paying $1131.45 for this to be fixed. now ever since this has been fixed my check engine light comes on for awhile then goes off. this happened with the fan on 8/17/04 now both power windows in the back are not working just the other day my son got out of the jeep shut the door and down came the window neither of the back windows work had it checked out and it will cost me 300.00 per window for the bearings what is going to happen next the front ones. i thought when i bought this brand i was getting a good value but turns out all i have had is a nightmare. *nm

While driving at an undetermined speed vehicle stalled. this caused consumer to drift to the side of the road. mechanic determined that the radiator plastic fan failed. *ak

The vehicle experienced problem since it was leased. there were engine and electrical trouble. the vehicle had been back to the dealer many times. *ak *sc

My wife & i were driving on i-95 south when my jeep grand cherokee's check engine light came on but before we could do anything it shifted from drive to 2nd gear and went from 60mph to around 25mph while we were still in the 3rd inside lane of a 3 lane hwy so we proceded to pull off the hwy and check out the truck and also let it sit for awhile and in doing so the lite went off so we proceded to get back on and go straight home but as we tried to get on the hwy it happened again but this time we went from drive to 1st gear and we almost got rearended by an 18 wheeler but he moved over at the last second, where we got on there was no break down lane so we had to go for about a mile and in the process we started to loose the brakes do to problems ariseing from the abs and also the engine was acting funny it started to shut off then it would speed up and it did it 3 or 4 times so when we got off we had the jeep flatbeded to "greenwich jeep" in greenwich,ct. soon as it's fixed i'm getting rid of it but i did want to note the problem with you! *ak

While driving at 65 mph engine failed. as a result, power steering and brakes malfunctioned. *ak took vehicle to mechanic but they couldn't find anything wrong. two hundred miles later, the same thing, nothing was found. at 6133 miles it happened again. consumer took vehicle to another mechanic. three different mechanics and no one could find anything. problem still exist. *ph

Whenever the consumer attempted to fuel the vehicle fuel spilled onto the ground. there were recalls on the fuel filler neck and the canister assembly. the recalls have been repaired, but the problem still persists. dealer explained that they were obligated to make the repairs once, then consumer has to pay for any other repairs. *ak

Factolry= "lemon" left the factory; minus headgaskets!!! possible "firetrap"!!!*ak

While driving, the vehicle would not accelerate, then it stalled at 30 mph. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined the vehicle overheated. the temperature indicator light had not come on. the mechanic stated the overheating was caused by the faulty radiator. the engine melted and now needed a new engine. the consumer felt this was related to the radiator repair in march 2003. *ak *scc *jb

The engine light illuminated.*jb

The vehicle stalled without warning, the dealer replaced the engine and problem continued to exist.*jb

Purchased november 2001, had two recalls for fuel system within two months, dealer told me there was previous recall fixed before i purchased. engine safety warning light has come on and stayed on several days on seven (7) separate occasions. dealer claims not to worry cannot figure out why. plus seat heater went out and had to be replaced, interior heater stopped working except defrost. i believe they are all related and is why the engine safety warning light keeps coming on. also to note--vehicle sways back and forth over small bumps, like riding a small boat in rough water. *nlm

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. since the day the vehicle was purchased, the contact feels a vibration when driving 30-45 mph. the failure occurs when the brakes are applied. the dealer stated that the brakes were 50% worn. the manufacturer stated that nothing could be done. the vehicle has yet to be repaired. the failure mileage was 2 and current mileage was 20,000. updated 01-15-08. *kb the dealer stated installed intake debre shield. updated 01/15/08 *tr

While driving at any speed and without warning the vehicle will heavily jerk and then the engine light will come on and stay on the remainder of the time vehicle is being operated. dealer notified. ts *dt

11-18-05 driving my car on freeway, heard a "pop" sound, then loss of fluids. drove off nearest exit to nearby service center. plastic cooling fan broke apart sending pieces into the front of the radiator, cutting and splicing it. the entire casing/shroud of the fan was cracked on the bottom and top, as well as several blades of the fan broken out. chrysler refuses to cover the damage stating it is past the warranty time of 3 years or 36,000 miles!!! i now have tp spend $1200 to fix as well as rental car for 1 week while they were "evaluating" the situation. heeeellllp!! *jb

Concern regarding safety of brakes, shake very noticeably when brakes applied. replaced front rotors and calipers. *bf there was continuing unresolved brake problems. the steering would also shake when the brakes were applied, the shaking and pulsation problem worsened, the cd changer had an internal fault, there was a fault in the transmission governor pressure sensor, the transmission leaked from the t casse adapter seals, the front pcv valve leaked at the front grommet on the valve cover, the front body seal was loose, there was a whine when the vehicle was driven up hill and upon acceleration, and the front rotors were out of round. *sc *tc

A loud high pitched whirring noise is heard, whenever the engine is "under load"(eg. whenever step on gas, while vehicle traveling at (appx) 60 mph). jeep insists that there is nothing wrong, but a persistent noise of this type that is unable to be. *ts *nlm *dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***762797

Since purchasing my 2002 grand cherokee ltd in october of 2001 there has been a ticking sound coming from the engine. we first brought the car in on 01/17/2002 to report this and the dealer said they could not reproduce it. on 06/27/2003 we brought it in again - this time the dealer said that the ticking is normal for the purge solinoid valve on the 2002 jeep grand cherokee. the ticking is supposedly caused because the housing around the emissions stuff is not insulated. the noise is very irritating and is especially loud in the cooler months. *jb a suggestion was made to turn on the radio - wow - what a solution. i do wonder if this is the real reason or - like the heater/blower - will this fail now that the warranty has expired?
