The frame on the driver's seat broke through in 2 places under normal use, making it a safety hazard. currently debating repair route. *tr
The driver's seat of my 2000 jeep grand cherokee came loose, causing the seat to be pushed into the backseat while the car was being operated at a high rate of speed. the dealership refuses to acknowledge responsibility for poor construction, despite the commonality of this problem on similar jeep models. *tr
Frame to driver's seat is broken. the seat is now apparently out of the track and cannot be adjusted with the temporary fix in place. seat is now tilted at an angle, and moves when vehicle is in motion, making it an unsafe position for the driver to be in. *tr
Driver seat frame broken. regular driving just snapped temporary fix with a c clamp. not safe, what good is having a seat belt on if your seat is not secure? *tr
The drivers seat in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee became wobbly and eventually broke from the frame. when it broke, i was driving and ended up flying forward and to the right. the dealer says it is over 1000.00 to replace the seat. i currently have it secured with zip ties, but these will probably not hold the seat in place if i am in a car accident. it seems that this is a very common problem and there should be a recall. *tr
Seat bracket broke on 2000 jeep grand cherokee. *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee passenger seat severely overheats. i like warmth, but this is uncomfortable to be sitting up against. as a side note, the driver side seat warmer doesn't work. the seat heats excessively every time it is on. we have not has this repaired at this time. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. on more than ten occasions, the contact stated that the seat heater on the driver's side would become so hot that the occupant in the seat would be burned. when he turned off the seat heater, it remained activated. he had to turn off the vehicle in order to turn off the heater. he never smelled anything burning. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer and the manufacturer has not been notified. the current mileage was 121,230 and failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
The drivers seat mounts broke and the seat bracket is cracked. also the back reclining will not adjust. i have to push it forward manually while pushing electronic button at the same time. i have to keep wood behind seat to support it, but it still rocks side to side. every time i drive i risk falling back it's scary but too expensive to fix and even with the$1500 price tag there's waiting lists for parts. this is a real safety issue, i have read over 1000 complaints on the same issue just today. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the driver's side seat bracket that connects the seat to the vehicle's structure failed due to metal fatigue. the contact did not observe any fatigue prior to the failure. the failure caused a near crash and he pulled over to the side of the road. the contact noticed that the front driver's side brackets failed and caused the seat to lean towards the passenger seat. he was able to drive the vehicle to his residence at the time, but the vehicle is currently unable to be driven. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer and the manufacturer has not been notified. the current mileage is 104,000 and failure mileage was 102,000. updated 11/14/08. *lj updated 11/18/08. *jb
I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo and purchased it used 4 years ago. a year ago my driver's side seat began squeaking and slowly rocking back and forth. one day as i was driving 70mph on the highway, the seat simply snapped, sending me reclining into the backseat area. luckily i was unharmed and no accident occurred. after reviewing the structure under the seat, i discovered that the metal frame had simply cracked. at $1000 to repair as quoted by a dealer, i simply cannot afford to do so and i have constructed a homemade device of 2x4's that has sufficed for the time being. however, the seat continues to rock side to side and when i go around corners i have to lean heavily against the driver's side door. simply put, the seat is a danger to the driver of jeeps and every car on the roads around them. i love my jeep but if i had been injured or killed, they would have been completely culpable due to their failed product. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. when accelerating or decelerating, the seat track fails. as a result, the seat does not maintain a stable position, which increases the risk of a serious crash. the contact has not called a dealer to determine the cause of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 130,000.
My driver's seat on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has broke. the metal track underneath has sheared off in several spots and the hinge to recline the seat also has began tearing. the broken metal makes it possible for the seat on my jeep to slide from side to side and to also slide forward and back. the broken metal on the hinge also digs into my side and i have to cover it with a leather glove to keep it from drawing blood. more importantly though is the fact that the seat moves and is not safe when driving, even if just driving on a city street, because it is not secure and you never know when it is going to give out and shift, causing you to stop paying attention to the road so that you can try to fix the problems with you seat. i really think that this should be repaired as i have seen many people having similar problems. in fact, in order to keep the seat from sliding back into the rear seat, i have installed my own safety features - i have place a cooler in the rear seat and the head of a sledgehammer underneath the seat to support the seat and to keep it from sliding back any further. i find this to work well as far as keeping my seat from moving, however it should not come to this. *tr
Drivers seat track/bracket and bolts that bolts the seat to the unibody frame broke during normal operation. *tr

The seat tracks on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee failed. the seat started to seem loose , then the metal brackets broke into, when i stepped on the gas the seat tipped backwards. it cannot be repaired and must be replaced. i just informed chrysler about the problem and of course they told me to take it to one of their service departments. they will not pay for it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact attempted to brake and the driver seat fell backwards. he was uninjured and took the vehicle to the repair shop. the mechanic stated that the brackets failed, but they would not weld the brackets back together because they believe it will not correct the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 125,000.
I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee, with 150,000 miles on it. while driving home from work on july 21st the outboard forward support for the driver's seat gave way. i immediately pulled over and looked the seats underside thoroughly and noticed the forward element of the seat had indeed broken between the seat itself, and the track on which the seat rides. i jarred my back making a left turn when the element of the seat gave way, and it left me wondering how a vehicle could have a seat whose support structure design allows for failure of an element critical to the safety of the driver or passenger. *tr

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4. about a year or more ago, my front driver's seat began to "wobble"... it was only a very minuscule amount at first, but has gradually increased in severity and is now a completely broken seat. the left side of the driver's seat can completely be lifted up on its side and is fully detachable. the brackets and seat mount under the seat have broken completely and the metal is snapped. this is a very serious problem as the driver seat may completely detach sporadically during operation. visiting a body shop at the beginning of 2010 i was told that replacing the seat would cost at least $500.00 and that the most cost efficient method would be to consider a replacement seat from the junk yard. as i began searching around for seats, i began to notice a very strange pattern: all the jeep's with my make and model from about 1999 to at least 2003 or 2004 had their front seats already missing within a matter of days upon their initial arrival to the junk yard. it was almost impossible to find a driver's seat that would fit my make and model because others around the country were. confronted with this irony, i began to search online for remedies to my issue and to see if other consumers had faced similar problems with their jeeps. i was astonished and deeply disturbed to find their was a web page filled with comments from other consumers experiencing the same exact issue with the driver's seat and in some cases, the driver's seat had detached during vehicular operation (for example, while making right turns). these comments dated back to 2007 and majority of them, if not all, dealt with jeep grand cherokee laredos from the year 2000. this is a major problem and there is a proven track record of this seat defect. the number of cases is too large to be irony. please advocate for a recall on behalf of consumers who are facing this.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the framework failed on the driver's seat and it was hanging on by one corner. the dealer stated that they would replace the driver's seat for $600. the failure mileage was 75,000. updated 05/15/09 *bf updated 05/18/09.*jb

The front driver seat broke. i paid to have it repaired. i was told that the piece fixed as best as could, but that unable to repair 100%. a new seat was needed. new seats are $700 plus. eventually the seat broke worse than first time. i have to seat erect with no back support, unable to move the seat forward or backward. i have fibromylagia and sitting in this position while driving is almost impossible, i am a single mom and do not have the money for a new set. i am at a lost at what to do. *tr

The driver's seat of my vehicle has developed a squeak. when i took it to the dealer they were not sure if the bolts securing the seat have loosened or the welds have cracked. all i'm told is bring it in and they will tell me how much it will cost to repair it. reading similar complaints, this seems to be common problem and should be subject to a safety recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep/grand cherokee laredo/4.0l l6 mpi . he stated that the front driver's side seat was loose and over time became progressively worse. the contact took the vehicle to his mechanic where he was advised that the seat needed to be replaced before he could pass inspection. no repairs were made to the vehicle, there were no recalls and neither the manufacturer nor dealer were contacted to report the failures. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current was 132,000.

My ventilation system is in the process of failing. i have a loud creating sound coming from underside my dash. when i turn on the system, it doesn't always heat/cool the way it is supposed to. sometimes the heat comes on, sometimes the cool comes on when the other is chosen. sometimes if it's supposed to be on the floor its on the defroster. also, the drivers side seat heater acts up but mostly it doesn't work.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the brackets on the front driver seat have snapped twice, causing the seat to rock and slide frontwards and backwards. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they did not explain how the brackets snapped. he believes that he will not be secured properly if a crash occurred. the current mileage was 170,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.
The left side of the driver's seat became disengaged from the floor mount because a 2 1/2 " section of the metal seat frame including the mounting bolt fractured and broke away from the frame so that the 2 1/2" section and the bolt are still attached to the floor mount, but the seat is not. i requested that the manufacturer replace or repair as a safety issue, but both the dealer and the manufacturer said it was beyond the warranty period and they could not. they failure appears to be from metal fatigue. the seat has never been subjected to unusual stress or weight. i am the only driver and weigh ~180 lbs. the car has never been in an accident that would have put additional force against the seat. the seat just stuck one day so you could not move the seat forward or back, and the seat began to squeak which apparently was due to the frame containing the mounting bolt breaking. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated the left front driver seat wobbled from side to side as though it was not secure while driving at various speeds. additionally, while applying sudden brake pressure, the seat moved forward into the steering wheel. the vehicle was seen by a dealer and it was determined the front seat anchorage was broken. *ak

The driver's seat bracket or mount is broken and the seat is set facing slightly toward the left pillar. in investigating this situation we found that bracket failure is a very common occurrence for this model. this is a hazardous condition and warrants a recall due to its frequency. this is my wife's vehicle and she is unsure about when the failure first occurred. *tr
The bracket under the seat snapped in a few different places, it looks like it was bad welding. i found online that many people had the same problem. i have tried to weld it back into place, but it only breaks again and again. it makes my seat very uncomfortable and it used to squeak, but i found a way to fix the squeak on my own. the whole seat moves forward because the back is not attached at all, very unsafe. *tr
