The front seat in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee had broke. the welds and bolts have broke. *tr
Driver side seat broke on 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. seems to be the frame on front and rear now it wobbles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the driver seat fractured. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the mechanic referred the contact to the dealer. he then called the dealer and was advised that the driver seat would need replacing. the manufacturer was not contacted to report the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. front driver's seat started to wobble/rock and then broke. a welder friend tried to braze it back together, held for 2 days broke again. off to junkyard to find whole new seat. looking online this is a wide-spread problem. an obvious defect and should be recalled. dealership wants $800-1000 to fix. *tr
I own a 2000 grand cherokee laredo. the drivers side seat is broken and wobbling. i had it welded by a mechanic about a year ago and now it is completely broken off the frame and i am unable to drive it due to the extreme lack of safety. i saw many, many complaints exactly the same for this car online. when is chrysler going to be held accountable for this? *tr
While braking to avoid a collision with another vehicle the mounting brackets on my driver seat broke, sending me forward into the steering wheel. at this time that problem has not been fixed although i have an appointment to have the seat looked at. the seat mountings and supports are visibly cracked in two places and the entire seat rocks back and forth. *tr
This vehicle did much like the previous owner's complaint's with the driver's seat. i had pulled in to a parking space and the seat just collapsed. i'm fortunate that i wasn't driving but trying to park. why haven't nhtsa entered a recall on this??? i'm trying to get the seat welded as i can't afford to buy another seat or another vehicle. this is a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed. as long as i've owned cars i've never experienced any seat just breaking apart like this one did. someone will get killed if this happens while driving. the frame shouldn't give way like this. it must be failure on the type of steel that is being used on the frames. *tr
I think it is ridiculous that a drivers seat can completely break from everyday use . my seat ( and hundreds, maybe thousands of others that i've seen on-line) just decided to break one day . welds - welds- i'm a welder and i do not understand how a car - 2000 jeep grand cherokee - can be put on the market and a total failure of a drivers seat can occur . it is just inexcusable and i cant believe there was never a recall for this . i wonder how many people have been killed from this defect . i'm sure there have been many and many others severely injured because of this horrible failure . i seriously don't know of any other vehicle that this happens to . i've owned many cars and have many friends and relatives who have owned cars and not one has ever had a seat where the welds completely snapped off - just broke at all the welds - like the 2000 grand cherokee . you want proof ? go online and google search this topic and you will see hundreds of similar complaints . i was not able to re-weld this seat because the damage was so severe . i had to replace the entire seat new .... because no junk yards or online services ( e-bay ) have any used ones available because the problem is so widespread . this is a very serious and potentially dangerous- very dangerous defect and i feel there should be a recall on this particular vehicle . i really can't believe there hasn't been one . i'm sure if you stress - tested this vehicle you would have found the defect in the first place . i'm only 185 pounds so my weight could not have caused complete breakage . i just got in the vehicle one day and the whole seat just snapped right off the frame ! how was this not discovered by jeep during testing ? i believe it was and was just overlooked because it was already in production and would have been to costly . bottom line is this is a very dangerous vehicle because of this seat defect ...
2000 jeep grand cherokee - heater core leakage led us to take up carpet - both driver's side and passenger side holes in the frame which hold the seats down to the body, were rusted through. cause - water trap (design flaw) in design of the unibody, and no undercoating to help prevent such occurrence. frame metal is approx. 1/8th inch thick. areas affected were cut out and new metal welded in (by private party - not dealer. i do have the pieces which were cut out.) should there have been a collision, the seats would have broken loose from the frame and serious injuries would have occurred. other comments made on this same vehicle, to include ours, relate how the actual seat frame breaks. metal found when this occurred is weakened - not re-enforced to prevent breakage. *tr
Driver's seat frame broke in several places: all four "legs" as well as cross-member in small of back. metal snapped through completely rending the seat first wobbly, then twisted and bent, then finally completely detached from car. *tr
Driver seat suport broke while driving. *tr
1. 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo - drivers side front seat started to "creak". i am afraid (like thousands of others) my seat will break during driving and result in injury. *tr
The driver's side seat in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee, got wobbly and eventually broken one side of the rails to the point where the seat has become dangerously wobbly and uncomfortable to sit in. *tr
Drivers seat frame is broken. *tr
Driver's side seat brackets broken. seat not attached to seat brackets in front. *tr
The driver's seat on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee started squeaking a few weeks ago, and the other day the entire seat bracket broke while i was going around a corner at speed (within the speed limit). when the seat bracket broke, the entire seat (with me in it) abruptly leaned to the side and i momentarily lost control of the vehicle and dented the side of the car on a guardrail. i have contacted a jeep dealer, and i am told this is a very common problem and the seat repair is close to $1000!! furthermore, they do not have the parts in stock and i am required to pay for the parts in advance for them to order them. this is ridiculous - the failure is a serious safety hazard, it has happened to thousands of other jeep grand cherokee owners, and i'm sure it has resulted in accidents and, possibly, loss of life. what can you do to help start the process of getting a safety recall issued? *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee broken drivers seat. frame for seat has failed in three places. i am 5'10" at 180 lbs and of average build. i am the second owner and have owned the jeep since 2004. i have taken good care of this jeep and provided regular maintenance since i purchased it. the seat frame connecting to the floor failed causing the seat to become unstable. i repaired the bracket with welding. a second failure occurred between the frame weld to the upright seat support causing the seat to recline uncontrollably. this failure occurred during operation and nearly caused an accident. the should be recalled and fixed before someone is seriously injured. *tr
The driver's side seat in my 2000 jeep laredo is broken. where the seat connects to the slider it is ripped like a piece of paper. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee front drivers seat mounting bracket is broken. the mounting brackets are apparently a defective design. this is a safety risk, as the seat belts are anchored by the seat. *cn
Today, the mounting rails for the drivers seat have broken (the rivets pulled through the cheap metal rails). seat is secured at two points now instead of 4, and swaying and clicking a lot. began with clicking and squeaking about 2 months ago but couldn't see anything wrong
2000 jeep grand cherokee. the frame underneath my driver's seat has cracked and broken causing the seat to be loose and tilted. the seat's frame bends over time and eventually began to tilt more and get more lose as the frame bent each time i sat down. eventually the frame completely broke, which results in my driver's side front seat to be very 'wobbly,' the jeep dealership quoted this at a $700 fix, just because they used a lighter, cheaper frame to reduce vehicle weight. *cn
The driver seat on my grand jeep cherokee 2000 just broke. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo - driver's side seat has broken in 4 places...2 bolts in front have worn through the track and 2 rear brackets have simply snapped. the seat is now completely loose. the incident appears to have happened over time without my knowledge, but i recently felt a snap and my entire seat was displaced...while driving in traffic on a state highway. this is poor engineering, poor craftsmanship, and entirely unsafe.*tr
Front driverside seat frame has broken. *tr
Driver seat keeps breaking on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee, appears to be a very common issue with this model. repair is expensive and dealers will not help unless under warranty. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee; driver seat frame has multiple cracks developed over the years. i weigh 245lb. internet search shows this to be a common problem with jeep cherokee. seems like a defect to me. may be it will completely far apart while i'm driving, who knows.*tr
Drivers side seat bracket at base of seat broke, the seat is no longer stable, if involved in an accident the seat and seatbelt combination could prove more dangerous than the accident itself, if the bracket breaks all the way while driving this could cause a major accident!! i am just learning that this is a common problem. this needs a recall, very dangerous!!! *tr
The weld on my set in my 2000 grand cherokee broke loose while driving. all welds are currently broken except for one. seat has not been replaced because replacement parts are hard to find. *tr
The driver side seat of my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited has broken loose from the floor in 2 spots. *tr
Drivers seat breakdown in 2000 grand cherokee. *tr
Front driver seat snapped all of a sudden and made squeaking noises and is like sitting in a rocking chair. went to see if just a screw was loose or had fallen out but the entire metal frame had snapped. it could be very dangerous and im lucky i was not driving in traffic when this occurred. *tr
Owned this jeep since i purchased it new back in 2000. a few months ago while i was driving, i leaned my body towards the drives side mirror to look at it closely and suddenly the rail on my seat snapped! my initial reaction was to catch my fall but unfortunately the only thing i was hanging onto was my steering wheel. bad mistake, but it was more of a sudden reaction than an educated decision. i swerved with my foot on the brake not knowing what had happened. thankfully, it occurred at night and nobody was using any of the lanes next to me on the 4 lane highway. after i pulled over to inspect what had occurred, i was shocked to see i had snapped the seat rail completely! weighing in at 170lbs, i don't consider myself to be overweight either. after looking around for a new seat rail, i discovered that there are many complaints with the same year vehicle. defiantly should be a recall with the amount of the same, dangerous problem... *tr
Seats busting off in jeep grand cherokee both sides was riding in a 2000 grand cherokee the drivers seat busted tipped back during acceleration from stop. *tr
The drivers side seat on my 2000 grand cherokee broke. the metal or design is faulty. at first i thought this was a unique problem, but the more i researched online, i found discussion forums with thousands of people with the same problem. i am now scared to drive this vehicle because other owners of 2000 grand cherokees have said that their seats have fully broken off while driving and have ended up in the back seat almost causing a fatal accident. my seat is only partially broken right now, it was already welded once. please look into this matter before someone seriously gets hurt. *tr
I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. recently the front drivers seat frame broke at 2 points. i ended up losing control as i was rocked into the back seat as i was going around a curve. i did avoid hitting anything but this scared the life out of me. i never had a car that the frame holding the seat in place was so poorly made. *tr
Front drivers side seat in grand cherokee laredo has snapped off the frame and become loose. *tr
My jeep grand cherokee laredo seat frame is broken. *tr
Drivers side seat broken it is broken in the back frame (poorly welded). *tr
My 2000 jeep grand cherokee front driver seat track has broke and been repaired and broke 3 times now in a year. it started out as little wobble like bolt loose, which is what i thought it was. my mechanic pulled the seat out and found the crack and broken metal. took it to and certified welder and had it welded. he told my the metal was cheap and that he has welded 3 others with the same issue. the last time he welded it for me he added some metal which lasted 6 months before breaking in another spot. now i just have the back wedged up with block of wood and have no adjustment in my seat anymore. talked to dealer after first break and was told they new of some problem but wasn't covered under warranties or no recalls. new replacement track are expensive and made the same as original, which has been known to break too. sounds like alot of people are having these issues from what i have found on-line. please recall this issue for everyone safety, and before someone gets killed. *tr
Mounting bracket for driver seat broken away from mount. seat now rocks back and forth. *tr
I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that i bought in august 2009, this is my second jeep of this make and model and i have had the same issue with both, my drivers seat is broke. i am a mother of 2 small kids and find this is very dangerous. i looked on line and found that many other people with the same jeep have broken seats as well. this seems to be a big issue and i feel this should be a recall on this year jeep. these seats need to be fixed. *tr
This is a complaint regarding my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited. my husband noticed a wobble in the front drivers seat and within 2 days (before he could take it in) the seat became unattached just as he was driving up a steep and curvy hill. he is around 270 pounds, well below the 400 pound limit. luckily he was going very slow as it is a steep hill through the neighborhood. he landed in the lap of my 6-year old daughter, crushing her legs against her booster seat, which cause extensive bruising. while she was not seriously or permanently hurt - this could have been much worse or fatal if it happened under different circumstances. i have spoken with the dealer and they said it has not been recalled. i then looked online and was astounded by the number of other people who have had similar problems. this needs to be addressed with chrysler before more people get injured or fatalities occur. *tr
Brackets holding drivers seat to car floor cracked and eventually broke completely sending driver backwards into rear seat while moving. *tr
1. sat on drivers seat of 2000 grand cherokee laredo 2. drivers seat frame broke. upon inspection 4 weld points had broken and metal was fatigued. average person weight is ~200 lbs (not excessive). 3. re-welded frame after replacement couldn't be found at salvage yards due apparently to the same failure. we're lucky this didn't happen while driving. plenty of forums and blogs about this same failure and i came here after finding a link on one of them to this site: http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/jeep/grand_cherokee/r98227/comments/page-4/. *tr
I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the front passenger seat has broken free from it's tracks 3 times. this is not the first repair i have had to make. the back frame of the driver seat snapped when i hit the brakes and almost broke my back. this is an outrage, as many jeep owners are experiencing the same problem. is it going to take a death to fix a few hundred thousand dollars worth of collective defects? the government bailed them out, why not put some of that money to good use instead of chrysler execs pockets!!! *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 point adjustable power driver's seat. the brackets on the left side of the power seat adjuster (the brackets that hold the top of the adjuster to the bottom) broke on july 3, 2009 under normal breaking at a traffic light. basically the left side of the seat now just floats around. if the corresponding brackets on the right side go, the seat will be free of the vehicle and i'll be driving from the back. i was willing to write this off as a one off problem, but that's just not the case. this is such a common issue that i'm unable to find a replacement from a salvage yard. the dealer wants $800 to replace the assembly (the entire assembly must be replaced as it's not available in its individual components) which just is not possible at this point. this is a serious safety issue. if the seat were to completely break away at 75 mph (interstate speed where i am), imagine the catastrophic event that would occur. i've gotten a hold of a used 10 point adjustable driver's seat from a 2001 jeep grand cherokee and am hoping i can make it work, but at this point, the issue is not resolved. if the one from the 2001 jeep can't be made to work, i may be forced to convert it to a manual seat as the brackets for a manual seat are affordable new. *tr
The front seat in my 2000 model jeep grand cherokee. i have read from a large number of owners that the same thing has happened to them. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. front driver-side seat frame broke at the lower left front base leg. had to be welded. *tr
My 2000 jeep grand cherokee has a broken driver's seat. i hae never had this problem before and have noticed its a big problem with alot of these cars. very dangerous driving condition with a broken seat cause it moves off the tracking deivice.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited. the contact stated that the front driver seat would continuously fail and would move independently while the vehicle was in motion. the brackets for the seat were replaced four times by an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the failure continuously recurred due to the weakness of the metal. the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 137,000.
