Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The heater is not working. the heater only blows out cold air. from the research i've done, it will cost an estimated $800 to $1200 to fix. the blender door is broken and is a manufacturer defect nothing i have done could have caused this. *tr

Failure of blend doors in heater/defogger of vehicle. jeep has known about these cheap parts for some time. the repair costs over $1000 because it is labor intensive, the complete dash panel has to be removed to access where the blend doors are located. the part costs are only about $150 at most! with the failure comes no warm/hot air from the heater, consequently no defrosting of the windshield.........a severe visibility problem!! jeep/chrysler should be picking up all, or at least most of the cost of this repair. the original parts were cheaply made and are subject to wear out within only a few years. i recently had to pay for this repair myself. i could not do without the defroster during winter months. i had to pay for it out of my own pocket. i would like to see jeep/chrysler refund some of that cost to me, it would only be fair. do a search on the internet, and you will see the numbers of these same failures for several jeep year models. *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee blender door, which is located in the heater/ air conditioner box. upon looking up this problem, and asking other jeep owners, this seems to be a very common and large problem, as well as costly ($800- $1200) to repair. how could there not possibly be a recall on something as expensive as this to fix. especially when it happens to all of these vehicles in the years between 1999-2004? the electronic dual air control was developed with parts not built to with stand the job it is required to do. *tr

My hvac blend doors have broken which will require the dealership to take the entire dash apart to fix a $200 part. the total cost of this is $1500 due to extensive labor. the dealership informed me that this is a common problem with the 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokee models with the dual temperature control settings. *tr

My ac fan had been cutting on and off randomly in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee. i thought at first it may be a bad climate control control panel. a few days later, i smelled electrical burning smell in my car and the fan would not come on at all. today i removed the blower fan, thinking it was bad, but it turns out the blower is fine, the blower control module relay and wiring harness had melted in the dashboard above where the passengers feet would rest. i have taken pictures and will be glad to send them upon request, but i think jeep/chrysler should have to replace this due to the potential fire threat and lack of safety (since the fuse did not blow). i attempted to replace the part through an automotive parts company, but the blower control module will need to be purchased straight from chrysler corp. please call me or email me with any follow up questions you may have. once again, i will also send pictures upon request. thanks! *tr

Blend door gone bad per dealer. *tr

Recirc door, the driver's blend door, and the passenger's blend door all have too much travel, causing only cold air to come in on passenger or on driver side causing fog build up on the front windshield which prevents drivers vision and could cause a major accident. a known problem by jeep/dodge/chrysler but never had a recall to fix the hazardous and dangerous problem. *tr

Windshield will not defog due to malfunctioning blend door. forced to pull over in heavy rain due to inability to see road. *jb

Driving down the road in a rain storm and the front passenger window fell into the door. i took the jeep to the dealer and was told the window regulator failed allowing the window to fall. regulator was replaced. *tr

Heating/air conditioning components fail due to faulty components (blend doors, a component known to fail frequently) causing windshield fogging, poor visibility, lack of heat control. *tr

Passenger rear door lock actuator failed; passenger front door window regulator broke and window fell into door while on highway;left brake light fails to light up with new bulb. *jb

Hvac blend door in jeep grand cherokee failed. *jb

Door actuator, overheating, transmissions slippage (or not wanting to shift at times), tail lights, cooling, heating (or lack of). *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee safety recall f25- electric radiator fan customer wants to be reimbursed for damage caused by the fan**cc chrysler would only replace the fan and the motor at their cost and the consumer would have to pay for the radiator and the shroud. the right front power window would not roll down when using the switch. *jb

Blend door failure on 2000 jeep grand cherokee. climate controls no longer work, including defrost/defog vents, causing dangerous situations. *ak

Today while driving the 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited the heater stopped sending warm air to the passenger side defroster and heat outlets, has dual zone controls. i suspected it was a problem with thegateswhich control the amount of warm air to enter the passenger cabin. upon researching the problem on the internet it appeared this was an identified defect affecting many jeep grand cherokee owners. the problem was apparently not correctable without replacing the gates"and actuators. i called the local dealership, and they acknowledge dit is a known problem , and have received a technical service bulletin on the issue. estimated repair cost was $1100 plus. in my opinion manufacturing defects should be covered through a recall and at no expense to the owner. *ak

After crackling a weird air issues in my jeep the climate control suddenly stopped functioning correctly all together. thiswas going to cost me roughly $1,200 to repair, and i read on the internet that there was more than one incident. after 52,000 miles something called a blend door effect took place. if i knew this before i bought my jeep i would have avoided it like the plague.*ak

The climate control system in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited does not function properly making visibility hard at times. from the research i've done this seems to be a large problem in these vehicles. they use a blend door system which are prone to break and require thousands of dollars to repair due to extensive dash removal. *jb

Heater or car radio overheated and melted tape in radio. this was the fourth occurrence and now radio will no longer play tapes or can be used for xm radio. talked to service manager at dealership and this has been an ongoing problem. *nm

2000 jeep grand cherokee, this is the third occurance that my heating/cooling system has failed since i purchased my jeep in august of 1999. the latest problem is the blend doors and recirculation doors. the dealer cost to fix was about $900.00. after seven years i would think that chrysler could make a heating/cooling system that would not break every 2.5years. *nm

Hvac system failure on jeep wj. creaking noises frequently heard from underneath dash, load fan noises heard from inside dash. these sounds indicate the start of a blend door failure in the hvac system. i ask you to consider a partial or total recall request to daimler chrysler on behalf of the nhtsa and jeep owners affected by this problem. *jb

Defroster on 2000 jeep grand cherokee only blows cold air. ice builds up on windshield reducing visibility. *nm

Heater blows only cold air on the passenger side no matter the temperature setting. *nm

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited with 116,000 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield, (2) no defrost on passenger side of windshield, (3) fogging of front passenger windows and windshield,(4) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (5) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently the windsheild and front windows do not defog, and no heat is provided from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a blend door assembly is required at a cost of approximately $1,350 inclusive of 8 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees.

Air conditioner/heater blower does not work. seems to be the same blender door problem as hundreds of other people on this website have: http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/jeep-grand-cherokee/tserat48371icob68/p3. *jb

Failure of climate control "blend doors" which results in lack of control over heat or a/c entering passenger compartment. *tr

The blend doors have failed 2x. this is extremely dangerous as i no longer have defrost on the front windshield. this costs over $1000 to fix. the blend doors have flaps to control the hot and cold air for the hvac. mine was stuck on cold, and there is no way to defrost my car. i can not afford another $1000. *nm

1) no sign of failure, just happened out of no where 2)no heat from passenger side of vehicle at all, no floor heat, no front vent heat, and most importantly, no windshield defrost heat, causing a lot of fog and poor visibility during these cold months... 3)have not done anything to fix issue, cost of replacement parts and labor is $2000, down time of vehicle is 2 days to fix...a lot of work for a novice like myself. *jb

The blower motor on my jeep grand cherokee limited failed due to a problem with doors in the heating/cooling system. the repair will cost $ 900 - 1,200.00 to repair. there was heat. there was cooling. there was no blowing to send that air into the vehicle compartment. defrosting of windows was slow.the condensation evaporated only after the air moved itself. i can only switch to "defrost", a minimal assist in the process. my husbandwas unwilling to drive or be a passenger in this vehicle due to the danger caused by the defrosting problem (we have a home in mn and i will be moving there soon) or during the extremes of temperature during winter and summer. there was a website with a long list of people with the same claim. *ak

My ventilation system is in the process of failing. i have a loud creating sound coming from underside my dash. when i turn on the system, it doesn't always heat/cool the way it is supposed to. sometimes the heat comes on, sometimes the cool comes on when the other is chosen. sometimes if it's supposed to be on the floor its on the defroster. also, the drivers side seat heater acts up but mostly it doesn't work.

Heater does not work on the drivers side, cost to fix is ridiculous and i cannot believe that something this expensive happens so often on this vehicle. i have read dozens of accounts from other wj jeep owners having this problem! *nm

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,400. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limited's with dual zone ventilation systems. given the mileage of the vehicle at the time of 110,000, i thought it a reasonable failure. later i found out this is a very common failure. 14 months later, the heater began having problems again and seemed not to respond to the controls. the shop says it is the "blend doors" again! i told them they were replaced 14 months earlier and they replied it was a common problem and it seems every service coordinator at this particular dealership had a set of bad blend doors under their desk to show people what the problem is! if this is so common, it seems that chrysler should be doing something about it! 14 months expected lifetime?? $3k in 14 months just to get a heater working? too much! something must be done!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the defroster malfunctioned and the windows frosted. the contact had no visibility. the dealer stated that the blending door heat actuator failed and needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 46,000 and current mileage was 47,500.

Just disgusted with the number of repairs i have needed to make to this vehicle. in the last six years the following repairs have been done: brakes replaced 3 times and need to be done again door window motor cooling fan, radiator evaporator coils hood lifters-hood will not stay up drivers door clunks starter compressor leaking axle seals and now i have a cracked head on the engine. the jeep just failed out of the blue. glad i was close to home. this vehicle is a lemon. buy american again--most likely not. are our "american" vehicles being built with inferior parts? or are they programmed to be obsolete within a few years? *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the ventilation would not operate on the driver's side disallowing the defroster, heater and air conditioning to operate properly. the vehicle was taken to the service dealer who determined the heater box needed to be replaced to correct the ventilation issue.

Blend motor failure ............ have no heat , only a/c ......... dealer wants 700.00 to repair ......... motor is only 70.00 ........... highway robbery .................. *jb

Unable to control direction of heat/cool to vents. dealer diagnosed blower air door failure . replacement was over $800. i do not have the old parts. *ak

Climate control not working. blower fails to push air. vent doors fail to move. *tr

The blend and recirculation door assembly in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited failed. this leads to a loss of heat and defroster. i live in minnesota so with no defroster this is a huge safety hazard. my windows won't defrost and will suddenly fog up without warning. i can suddenly lose all visibility. *jb

visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower . *nm

Air conditioner (a/c) will put out heat when on full cold and neat will put out cold when on heat mode. air will not blow out vents or defrost but blower motor is working . started acting up last year and still does it. *tr

The brake rotors on my 2000 jeep cherokee keep warping. i have heard multiple complaints about this same problem from other jeep owners. i also have a problem with my electric windows failing. once again i have had others tell me the regulators on the windows fail often with the jeeps. *nm

The ventilation system in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee stopped working completely. it worked for about a year after i bought it and then stopped. now it just blows out cold air even when i have the heat on. i can't afford to have it fixed and i can't fix it my self. it is a constant nuisance. i live in the mountains where it is freezing and i have to drive to work in a freezing car. my defroster doesn't even work! half the time, i am riding around with a fogged up windshield which isn't safe at all. *tr

Heat hasn't worked on passenger side of vehicle for 2 years. asked dealer about it and they want over $1000 to repair. just replaced radiator and now heat doesn't work on driver side. if jeep actually checked customer complaint website they know that this problem is rampant around the country and they should recall the vehicle and pay to have this problem fixed. i purchased this vehicle used in 2003. heat stopped working on passenger side by september and i purchased it in july. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the heat/defrost function failed in the vehicle. during the winter, the contact must remain cold in the vehicle and the windows become foggy instead of defrosting. the vehicle has been to the dealer twice and they stated that there was possibly a condenser leak in the heater, which caused the control lever for the heating unit to deteriorate. the contact stated that the repair was too expensive. he has found several complaints regarding this failure with the same model; therefore, he believes that the manufacturer should issue a recall. a relay shorted out due to a failure with the heating mechanism and the entire vehicle filled with smoke. there were no injuries. the vehicle has not yet been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 90,000.

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *jb

Blower blend door failure. *nm

Defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower , hvac system failures repeatedly. dealership charges $800 to $1500 per incident. first time evaporator core goes bad, second time blend doors go bad, third time fan motor goes, forth time fan motor and thermostatic resistor that controls fan goes bad, fifth time blend doors go again, sixth time thermostatic resistor and its wiring harness burn up, seventh time, recirculate/fresh air door breaks off inside unit. 2000 grand cherokee limited with dual zone automatic climate control system. *tr

3 of the four power door locks are not longer working and the doors can not be opened without first unlocking the door with the power lock and then manually unlocking the door with the lock slider. this is a real problem for those in the back seat who can not reach the power lock button, those making it impossible for them to exit the vehicle without help. *tr

Defrost blend door passenger side inop ice on windshield.unable to see thru passenger side windshield
