My driver's seat (back and frame) broke and i have come to find that this is a problem that many jeep owners have. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 5-10 mph, the driver's side power seat has movable metal that connects and broke on his vehicle. the front driver's side seat did not have any connection to the actual vehicle. the dealer stated that the entire seat track would have to be replaced at an estimated cost of $550. the failure mileage was 155,000 and current mileage is 174,000.

1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo front driver seat broken off...metal cleanly broke....cannot find another seat to replace it....happened last year while driving. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front driver's side seat frame failed. when he sat down in the driver's seat, it immediately reclined backwards. he believes the failure is due to poor design and has not taken the vehicle to a dealer. through online research, the contact found numerous complaints regarding the same failure he was experiencing. the failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 137,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated the front driver side seat partially detached from the frame, which caused a rocking motion when driving. the vehicle was taken an independent mechanic where the seat bracket was welded to the frame. four months later, the failure recurred and the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the approximate failure was 140,000.

The driver's side power seat adjuster broke and now the seat is wiggling and wobbling. i took the vehicle to a dealership, and was quoted $900.00 to resolve this issue. they stated that the entire seat adjuster would have to be replaced. i have never had a problem with any other vehicle i owned. i am forced to pay for this repair when it is clearly a manufacturer's s defect. *ak

Heated seat shorted and burnt a hole in seat cushion and under side of seat cover. *tr

Drivers side seat bolts have pulled through the seat frame that holds it to the car. failure occurred 3 years ago. cost for new frame and installing was $850. so we keep the back seat folded forward so the front seat, in the 'furtherest back' position, rests against the back seat and we have wire twisted to hold the seat in place as best as possible. we were told since it was out of warranty, chyrsler would not fix it, even though in our mechanic's opinion it is obviously a flaw structure of the seat and not something that should have happened with such low mileage. vehicle was purchased new and original driver is only driver (fortunately he is long legged) and since the failure it is only driven to and from work (20 miles a day). current mileage is 68,798. *tr

1999 jeep grand cherokee/ 56k mi.: driver's seat breakage while driving. very squishy to drive/ feeling of broken and unstable office chair/ falling backward and difficult to steer. brought to personal mechanic to evaluate. dx: seat assembly (power) fractured. parts only available through jeep vendor and unavailable for 6 days. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving low speed, the front driver's side seat tilted backwards without warning. the vehicle was inspected by the dealer and it was determined the front seat recliner assembly fractured and the power adjust needed to be replaced. after the repairs were performed, the seat shifted while driving various speeds. after initial inspection, the contact determined the front seat recliner assembly was fractured again. the vehicle is awaiting further inspection by the dealer.

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the front driver side seat suddenly detached. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000. the current mileage was approximately 140,000.

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee with aprox. 77,000 miles. i noticed the driver seat was rocking from side to side, upon further inspection. i saw 2 broken parts in the base support of the seat. this can cause instability and end with a crash. this car is too new to have a problem like this. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at no particular speed, the driver seat became unbearably hot, then the heating system abruptly stopped functioning. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where it was determined that the heating elements on both front seats were burnt out.

dt: contact states the seat frame in vehicle broke while driving. the vehicle has not been to a service dealer yet. *ak

My driver side seat broke completely from the tracks. the metal holding the seat to the tracks broke completely while my wife was driving the car. chrysler jeep says that the car is out of warranty and now i have to pay $800 to repair at the jeep dealer.

The frame of the seat in my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo has broken, along with the carriage that the frame sits on--in 2 different spots. there was no crash, or trauma of any kind delivered to the seat. the failure of the seats carriage and frame cause me to pitch and yaw rather wildly when i make turns even at low speeds. i am worried that the added stressed placed on the remaining contact points betweent he carriage and the frame will cause them to break as well. *tr

Drivers seat, left side support rail failure. rail tore and bolt broke through metal. seat rail was replaced after failure. *tr

The drivers seat frame has broken from regular use. apparently the steel used is not the correct strength for the normal use of the seat. repairs will further weaken the structural integrity of the seat. manufacturer claims it is not covered under warranted. *tr

Problem with seat on the driver's side. while getting an i.d. from the rear seat, a weld, from a piece of flat stock metal, 1/8 inch by 1in.x1 in., disconnected. this cause the seat to rock, back and fourth. the other three bar sections could also, detach because of this. i have an extended coverage but, i 'm told it's not covered. i would have to pay, over $900.00 dollars to have this fix. they, the dealership, would need to replace the whole under section, in order to rememdy the problem.this this is not a normal thing, i feel that happens.i've had a number of cars etc., never this problem. i'm told, it can't be rewelded back in place. and i can't drive the car as is.the whole seat could come flying through the front glass. can you help me with this issue?*ak

The drivers seat left front corner has broken due to thin metal used to manufacture this part..shoud be a recall on this as it could cause a loss of control situation if it breaks while driving vehicle. *ak

The driver's side seat has failed twice; the first time 2 years ago, when the bolts holding the seat the the frame broke, causing the seat to "float in the seat railing, and again this week, where the frame holding the seat broke. in both cases, i believe this could lead to an significant increase in injury, should the vehicle get into an accident. when i spoke with both the dealership & chrysler, they said as the vehicle was out of warranty, they would do nothing about it. when i brought up the potential danger, they wanted me to submit my bills for review, documentation they can get from the dealership.

The driver seat on my 1999 jeep cherokee laredo have given way. both support bolts have sheared leaving the seat unsupported. this happened in normal driving conditions. i contacted chrysler, with no satisfaction. i was told that the car is out of warranty. this seems to be a serious defect in the seat support system. *ak

The driver side seat front left support broke while driving. this caused the seat front corner to lower. the seat is mobile. the cause of the failure is yet to be determined.

The driver side front seat track on this vehicle have failed 5 times since 2004. the first track was repaired twice. finally in 2008 i purchased a brand new track for over $500 at park jeep in burnsville, mn. that one lasted 3 years and failed and it was repaired once. 6 months ago it final failed again and my driver seat became a rocking chair for the 5th time. i replaced that one with a used one i found and am just waiting for that one to come apart. *tr

While adjusting power seat a piece of metal bracket that attaches the seat to the rail assembly fractured for no apparent reason. dealer states since warranty period was over there is little they can do and that they are unaware of any similiar complaints.*ak

Driver's side seat left bracket that attaches to the support to the car broke while driving. this leaves the left side of the seat lower and basically unattached to the car. took the vehicle back the the dealer and was told because it was out of warranty they would fix it for parts and labor. brought up the potential danger and asked if there was a recall for this and was told no. *ak

Broken elevator bracket on drivers power seat. the front left bracket has broken at the weld. it does not appear that this weld had been adequately fused to the axis shaft. the bracket broke in half at the point where it is intersected by the axis component. sometimes this seat rocks backward suddenly when driving which diminishes my ability to control the vehicle. i am more concerned that the drivers seat is not anchored to the vehicle chassis as designed. in the event of being the victim of a rear end collision, i anticipate being thrown to the rear of the cab due to lack of restraint. i am virtually the only person that has driven this vehicle and the seat has only been elevated from its lowest position a few times. the repair estimate is $586 (to replace the entire assembly) as the warranty has expired. this failure is clearly a manufacturing defect and not due to wear or misuse. the failure of this component significantly compromises driver and occupant safety. *jb

Drivers seat track mechanism on lt. front corner, snapped, causing the seat to become loose and not secure

While driving at 25 mph, the drivers upper lower seat frame, snapped off. manufacturer was notified. *ak *scc

Noticed that the seat felt like it wobbled but could not readily detect problem. after problem appeared to worsen i made a thorough check. i found that at the front left corner of the drivers seat the metal had failed around the point of attachement to the floor/chassis. this left the seat basically unattached at this point. i plan on contacting the original dealership today to determine repair process.*ak

My power steering began to fail last february and it fails whenever i am going at speeds below 20mph or if i am off of the gas pedal. i have talked to several jeep owners (2000 or 1999 models) that are experiencing the same problem. when i call daimler chrysler they contend that they are unaware of any problem with the power steering. i don't believe it. i have also had problems with the seat heaters. i have had to replace the drivers side twice and now the rarely used passenger side heater is failing. they told me during my second repair that the 1999 jeeps have a very fragile part and that they have replaced them with a better part for the 2000 jeeps. i had to pay repair costs on my second repair because my warranty had expired and i'm afraid that they may not even cover this new problem even though they admitted that the part is faulty and very fragile.*ak
