Dt: consumer has a jeep grand cherokee, 1999. the air bag light comes on intermittently. he found some recalls on a dodge truck with similar problems. when he makes a turn or goes over a bump the air bag light comes on. the dealership told him to call dealership to resolve the problem. the manufacturer informed the consumer that there were no recalls or tsb regarding the problem and that it was the consumer's responsibility to have the vehicle repaired. he is concerned that if he is involved in an accident that the air bags will not work. *ak *nm
Air bag light stays on for no apparent reason in my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo (4.0 liter, 6 cyl.) i understand a recall was issued for the exact same problem for the '97-99 jeep cherokee which stated: air bag could deploy unexpectedly and injure driver. alternatively, air bag warning light could come on for no apparent reason. models: 391,623 sport-utility vehicles made 7/96-6/99. what to do: have dealer replace air-bag control module, positioning it on top of transmission tunnel. *jb
The air bag light illuminated intermittently while driving. dealer was notified. although there was a recall concerning the clock spring dealer informed the consumer that his vehicle was not covered under the recall due to vin. *ak *tc
99 jeep grand cherokee with engine problems customer states that the rpm's would immediately go up to the 200 or sometimes higher as soon as he starts up the car and also accelerate when the brakes are applied**cc the consumer stated various parts were replaced, however the problem returned. the consumers wife was driving, when all of a sudden the vehicle started to accelerate on its own, she applied the brakes as hard as she could, however the vehicle continued to proceed in a forward motion. the only solution was to place the vehicle into park. after placing the vehicle in park, the consumers wife placed it in drive again and immediately it started to accelerate uncontrollably. applying the brakes with full force did not solve the problem. when aaa arrived and started the vehicle, nothing happened. the sudden acceleration happened again while the consumers daughter was driving. during one of the sudden acceleration incidents, the consumers wife was injured. the right front wheel speed sensor was replaced. the coolant radiator fan relay and water pump were replaced. the air bag light was on, the transmission seal was leaking. the fuel pump was replaced. the right and left hub bearing were replaced. *jb

1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the airbag light comes on with left turn of vehicle. the dealer can not easily figure out what causes this. others have had this same problem with this vehicle. i think a recall should be done to correct this.
The air bag warning light & chime went on for no apparent reason. the dealer first replaced the "air bag" computer and, on a second repair visit a "clock spring" and charged me a total of $600 for these repairs. i don't feel i should have to pay for repairs for this safety item. failure of the air bag computer could result in the failure of the air bags to deploy in a front crash. mr

The vehicle exhibits a sag/hesitation following a partial cool down restart, possibly an oxygen sensor problem. while making hard left turns at slow speeds (such as a u-turn), the airbag warning light illuminates and a audible chime is activated. the right side brake light assembly is burnt (internally) due to some kind of electrical overheating. the vehicle shifts hard, misses shifts, shifts repeatedly at constant speed and on a level grade. the rear differantial "bumps" very hard within 3-20 seconds of coming to a complete stop. an immovable "fog" has developed on the lenses of the composite headlight assemblies.*ak
