Engine overheating, sliding turns, brakes make noise.
My etc light came on as i was lsitting at a stop light .complete loss of power and could not accelerate past 20 mph. i turned the car off, let it sit for a mintue and restarted and everything was fine. but then after a few more minutes of driving it happened again
While traveling on interstate 80 in the passing lane my 2014 jeep compass lattitude 2.4l shut off for no reason. i managed to get to the side of the road and got stopped. i turned off the key and restarted the engine. this happened three more times before i got off the interstate. this has happened about 8 times so far. the dealer says they have to duplicate the issue, but sometimes it goes weeks without happening.

The engine stalled and cut off while i was slowing down while driving on the freeway. the car went completely dead, i could not turn on warning lights and cars were running fast behind me. after 2 minutes of turning the ignition to try to start the car, the dash lights went back on and the engine started again. the car also cut off when i was slowing down in traffic behind other cars.
When in motion, when braking to allow a vehicle in front to turn when attempting to accelerate vehicle hesitates and lurches front to back numerous times before resuming acceleration. this occurs at highway and city speeds. vehicle has been taken to a mechanic multiple times with no sensors or issues found.
My jeep compass want to stall when i press the gas! it has been doing it now for 2 days and it does not happen all the time but did almost cause me to wreck on a highway yesterday! this has happened on highways and side roads. the car has not stalled out completely but it wants to and when in does it causes the car to jerk and lose speed. my car only has 33,000 miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep compass. when the turn signals were activated, the interior lighting inside the vehicle illuminated and turned off once the turn signals were deactivated. also, while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact had to release the accelerator pedal in order the engine to return to normal. there were no warning indicators illuminated. on one occasion, the engine completely failed. the vehicle had to be towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the wheel bearing and alternator needed to be replaced. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 82,000. the vin was unknown.
Takata recall complaint - engine, fuel propulsion system, vehicle speed control 2014 jeep compass sputters and jerks, difficulty accelerating daily on all types of roads and highways since 2016 until current and now since 5/6/209 and 5/10/2019 the engine light randomly came on along with the electronic throttle light. unable to accelerate above 45 or 50 mph..only gain speed when going downhill. i was scared and had the car towed home i was on the freeway my life was in danger
Vehicle has issues accelerating sputters and jerks between 25 and 45 miles per hour. had a mechanic check this issue and says it has something to do with a defective or damaged transmission. vehicle has less than 100,000 miles and was just recently purchased from a dealer and had a good rating. vehicle had this problem since purchase and has begun to get worse. this issue only happens when shifting from 2 nd to 3 rd.
Driving when i lost power, even pushing on the gas... the car slowed to under 20mph. a few lights came up on dash (check engine, traction control, lightning bolt) engine stuttered and cars were swerving to go around me because i had no power no matter how much i pushed on the gas. this is the second time this happened to me, i was on the highway.
Keeps jerking and losing power while accelerating on highways/busy roads/hills.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep compass. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the catalytic converter was replaced. several days later, the check engine indicator illuminated again and the vehicle began to stall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
While driving on both city streets and highway the engine shuts off without any warning. this causes a loss of power steering and abs braking making it very difficult to safely get the car off the road and avoid accidents. once i'm able to stop and put the car in park it will restart and drive normal again. before, during, and after the engine shut down there are no lights on the dash or codes in the computer that identify an issue. this happens at least three times a week in all tempetures and conditions.
I was driving about 45 mph on a country road, after a curve in the road, my jeep"s traction control and check engine light came on as well as the electronic throttle control started flashing. my jeep then went into "limp mode" and i couldn't drive faster than 40 mph. i'm so glad that i was on a country road because if this would have happened on a highway it would have been very dangerous. i was finally able to get my jeep home and it has been fine since but now i'm constantly worried that this is going to happen again at anytime.
I was driving down the road doing 40 with 2 of my children when i lost all power control of my vehicle in 90 degree weather. i ended up on someones lawn and pulled up on my emergency brake to stop my car, only way. i ended up being towed home. car started next day. took to dealership they said it was throttle control sensor which they stated wasn't covered under warranty. just this week i took to get its first inspection since purchasing and it failed for emissions. i was told by inspector this make and model had been failing for fuel system failure and to contact dealership. i contacted dealership who stated this is the first they're hearing of this issue and i wasn't able to schedule an appointment until next week and said that there may be a charge for me to fix???? i have also had to replace both rear hub bearings. i called the jeep manufacturer who was absolutely useless as well and said certain things are covered under warranty and this may be one that isn't. this is absolutely ludicrous that i have a 4 year old car that failed its first inspection. i have a claim with them.
Vehicle was in motion on interstate when it lost power, took it to mechanic and was told it needed another motor cause 2 cylinders were getting compression which means no power... it will only get up to 2500 rpms and loses power, no start power and no power up hills at all
Driving the car and it just stopped engine just died then restarted
I see an existing recall that matches all the issues my car has been having and yet my car is not on the recall. i would like to test that the recall did not include all the cars that it should have. (not the airbag recall) my car has stalled a couple times while driving slowly and i notice a strange shift issue in my car. when i bought my car they told me that the timing belt felt different than the other cars i had driven and that it was more up to date. i believe that my car had an issue from the beginning.
Jeep engine will constantly stall while in motion. it has been happening on a consistent basis for over a year.
While driving months ago my car lost all control of throttle, all controls shut down, and i barely made it to the side of the road. got the car checked, it appeared to be the throttle body sensor. had the sensor completely replaced, it has been 4 months since replacement, and this morning while driving around a curve the car lost acceleration, all controls shut off, and my steering wheel locked up, causing me to be stuck in the middle of a sharp curve in the middle of the road. i turned the ignition to off and restarted the vehicle and it started up and drove fine. i also have had an issue when accelerating where it has a hard time changing gears, and it gives a slight jerking in the throttle where it won't change. this morning after my incident the car has started vibrating while in drive and idles at 1000 rpm. when i put the car in neutral the vibration stops, but immediately starts back once i remove it out of neutral.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep compass. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle intermittently stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
While driving down the interstate all of a sudden lost complete power. lightening bolt symbol turned on and would not accelerate. eventually regained power, but car continued to studder going down the road. and then it happened again. very dangerous. diagnoses: throttle body faulty. 92,000 miles. not covered under powertrain warranty. with all the complaints i've read this seems to be a known issue and now $700 plus down drain.
My jeep constantly stalls when driving it. i can be at a stop light and begin to accelerate once it turns green as soon as i start moving it stalls. if i'm on the highway and try to speed up to pass someone it stalls. i have had so many issues with this jeep after purchasing it with 9,000+ miles on it in 2015. i was driving it on the nj turnpike when it completely stopped accelerating. my youngest daughter was in the car and it frightened both of us as on coming cars were dodging us. i took it back to the dealer and was told it was a fuse. the fuse blew again while driving on the same highway. i've had to replace the tie rods, the brakes the rotors all four tires fuses alternator and now a brake switch. the jeep stalls while driving and i have to look at the dashboard to make sure it's still accelerating so that i don't have a scare like i did the times when the fuses blew. i've written several letters to the corporate office in regards to having so many issues and basically i was told that i drive the jeep too much. first of all i thought people bought vehicles to drive them. in any event i was told to read the consumer report on this vehicle and realized the stalling may not be from the fuses and whatever makes them blow out. when asked about the fuses in the beginning one of the maintenance personnel said to me a car is a machine and sometimes machines don't operate the way they should. i pretty much gave up on that place and jeep as a whole. i purchased a lemon and chrysler jeep dodge couldn't care any less.
2014 jeep compass sputters and jerks, difficulty accelerating, the engine light randomly came on along with the electronic throttle light. unable to accelerate above 45 or 50 mph..only gain speed when going downhill!
The throttle body control would not allow my jeep to merge on the highway. i was merging on to the highway and as soon as the it got up to 2500 rpm it would not shift. i had to let off of the gas and pull to the side of the road because it started reving all of the way up to 7000 rpm in order to shift. the lighting bolt symbol came on during all of this and stayed on. i tried then to exit the highway and it did it once again, but this time it stalled completely. the jeep would go as long as i didn't go past 2500 rpm. as soon as i got safely off the highway i took it to a mechanic on the same street. i had to replace the throttle body unit and it ended up costing around 530 usd. now i am having the exact same symptoms before the last time the unit broke.
While getting off of pm shift, around 2330, i was driving and all of a sudden my car began to slow down only 3 miles into driving. i could not accelerate more than 15 miles an hour in a 40mph zone. the lightning bolt for electronic throttle control was flashing, then stopped, then my check engine and my anti skid(?) was lit up. i pulled over to a side street, put in park only to have my engine idle at 2k rpm. thank goodness i had my phone and a friend with some car knowledge. told me to leave in park and restart my car. turned on and once i shifted out of park it happened again. he stayed on the phone with me for the rest of my drive home that took me 45min because of not being able to accelerate any faster than 15. a drive that usually would take me 15 minutes took much longer. glad my kids weren't in the car because i almost got hit 2x by 18 wheelers coming off of the highway. not to mention it was only 27 degrees out (without the chicago wind chill)and would have had to wait probably 30+ minutes for a tow or ride to pick me up had it not restarted. beyond livid that there are numerous complaints about the same thing and nothing being done. going to have to pay out of pocket for this fix, right before christmas, awesome!
The vehicle shut off while going 70 miles an hour, no warning at all. as soon as it was switched off it re-started??? no codes appearing and no check engine light.
My oil pressure and check engine light kept turning off and on. i contacted the jeep dealership in regards to the issue, and they advised me it was not dangerous. the problem continued so i attempted to transport my vehicle to my mechanic, and as i was transporting the vehicle i heard a loud "pop!" from under the hood. the car began to decelerate causing me to have to pull safely to the side of the road from three lanes over. the dash board proceeded to light up and a strange smell began to come through the vehicle. my associate and i got out of the vehicle to check under the hood and found that the vehicle was on fire. we quickly grabbed our belongs and moved a safe distance away from the vehicle. the vehicle was engulfed in flames within 15 minutes and remained on fire until the fire department arrived to extinguish it. the car was a total loss and jeep has denied association with the incident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep compass. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle shook violently. while driving 45-65 mph, the vehicle vibrated steadily and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the two front tires were balanced and the front cv axle was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 73,136.
Since i bought this car from the dealer, all the from tires making noises when i press the break to stop, i spoke with the dealer but he don't want to help me out. also the engine light showing up since i got the car from the dealer, the electrical system too is not working perfectly and the ac system is not too good.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep compass. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle decelerated from 60 mph to 5 mph in the middle of an interstate. the contact was able to exit the interstate onto a smaller road where the vehicle was towed. chrysler, jeep west valley in reseda, california diagnosed that the throttle body control was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle was out of the mileage warranty coverage of 30,000. the manufacturer stated that nothing could be done. the failure mileage was approximately 53,900.
Dangerous, engine stalling and complete electrical shut down, while driving at any speed, driving straight, turning, or just sitting there. the abs light flashes and then everything shuts down without warning. i sit for a minute, then i can restart and the vehicle runs fine. except for the fact that the engine stalling will happen again. i took it to the dealer, they said there are no codes indicating a problem. the dealer cannot find what this issue is. there was a recall in dec. 2013 for the exact same problem, however, chrysler corp says that my vin does not fit into vehicles that were recalled. it should be if my 2014 jeep compass is having the exact same problem. this is extremely dangerous, stalling in the middle of traffic both on the freeway and in the streets. and with the airbag module not replaced yet by a different recall, it makes it more dangerous if the vehicle stalls in traffic, then a car hits us and no airbag deploys.
The vehicle was traveling on a highway, when suddenly a loud "pop" noise (unknown origin) was heard. after pulling safely to the side of highway, a large pool of fluid was noticed underneath the vehicle, smoke began coming from under the hood and within minutes the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames and a total loss. the car had previously been serviced with oil change and fuel injection cleaning two weeks prior (3/4/2017). no prior mechanical issues . approx 39,000 miles on odometer
I've had to replace all 4 bearings, the 4 wheel drive went completely out during big snow in 2016, the rutter valve had gone bad(which costs over $400., having to replace alternator, and various other things... this jeep had been nothing but a pain since i've had it and i bought it new. they are junk and the whole vehicle should be recalled.
I have owned this jeep compass since july 2014 in the time i have owned it , it has lost power and stopped functioning as i was driving betweeen 55 and 65 miles/ hour 4 times on a very busy 5 lane highway. 1 of those times i had to have it towed . the other times after leaving it sit for approximately 30 minutes, it would restart.the time it was towed, the only thing they could find is the battery was low so they replaced it. another time at 33,000 miles, they found the transmission was failing so they replaced the transmission. last month , it died again in the same busy highway and we were almost hit by an 18 wheel truck while trying to get it off the road. i let it sit for 30 minutes and it started again just like the other times. i took it to wallace jeep in stuart florida where the service manager did a diagnostic on it and said he could find nothing wrong. i have not driven it on the highway now for weeks because i fear the transmission is going out again and am afraid of being hit in traffic. it now has 66000 miles on it so this transmission has about the same mileage on it as the original did. i a opened a case with jeep and can never get them to call me back i am thoroughly disgusted with this vehicle and would never buy another jeep as long as i live. not sure what to do next! so not fair that i am stuck with this death trap! i previously owned 3 different grand cherokees with no issue , but this compass is a worthlesss, dangerous, pole of junk! i loathe this vehicle!
