I was just given an estimate for a rotted subframe of about 800 for the part alone. this is a known issue that has been reported in several jeeps. i'm contacting the dealer as well. my jeep also needs to have the rear subframe also looked at.
Vehicle cannot be inspected due to an inspection done by shannon tire. vehicle was stationary on a lift when the person found the subframe completely gone. the motor is close to falling out and we have read numerous occasions where this same issue has taken place.
Driving at highway speed, lost all power. coast to the next rest stop, flashers on only going 40mph on highway. then car off, restart and proceeded home. a few days later same seniro. new transmission from jeep, $3300. i think they should recall and fix the problems.
The etc light comes on and the vehicle won't go when stepping on the gas. the engine cuts off in the middle of driving. some days it starts some days it doesn't. replaced the relay switches twice and the etc. neither seems to help. i drive a highway to work everyday and i pray that if it acts up, i can find a place to pull over
While i was driving to work, the car started to feel like it was going over a speed bump, it was pushing forward but just enough for me to get out of the road into a gas station. when i finally stopped, i turned the car off and back on. it would start but would not move. took it to a transmission shop and that what they said is the problem. i only have about 160k miles and should not have to replace my transmission so soon!
After noticing my rear tires wearing uneven, we took our car in to have the rear suspension inspected. we got a call telling us the rear subframe had rusted through and broke.
My 2011 jeep compass engine light came on and i started to lose power on the highway. i had to coast to the side of a small median strip and was later towed to the nearest mechanic.
Was driving the car and all of a sudden the abs and road hazard and 4 wheel drive lights stard flashing. i took the car to be severed and the attended said the sensor in the right tire went out.
The subframe or k-frame of the vehicle is rotted out and the sway bars broke away from the vehicle. cause popping and cracking when driving (in motion).
Rotting sub frame
I started up my vehicle and the etc light came on, let me remind you that it's been going on and off every day, well, i put the car in drive and as soon as i let off the brake, my car accelerated to 4 rpm's and i hit the back end of a family friend who was parked in the drive way. i had the body/mechanic shop take a look at it while repairing the body, and they had no for sure answer. i have had 5 different mechanics look at it and had my codes ran more than once. it's ridiculous. the etc light is on constantly. it's all a matter which day its going to accelerate on its own and which day its going to lose power. this is ridiculous. i have called chrysler multiply times. my argument is the fact that it isn't something that i have done to the car. what if something was to happen and it came on when i was at a traffic light, somebody is walking across the road and my car accelerates. that family is going to sue me and my insurance and my insurance is going to sue chrysler. it's so pathetic, it costs almost $100 just for them to tell me what's wrong. then, lord knows how much it will take to actually fix the problem. we have already spent almost $500 trying to fix the problem ourselves and that obviously isn't working. i hope that they're are others who are experiencing this problem so we can get it fixed which it what should've been done a long time ago. there are plenty of complaints online and none of which have found a fix to the problem. my car now has 114,000 miles on it and i still have 4 years left to pay on it. and quite frankly, due to this issue i will probably never buy another jeep again, chrysler as a mater of fact. i hope nobody has gotten hurt though! thanks! Engine will stumble and stall when driving and headlights are illuminated, windows are rolled down or any electrical drain occurs. this is an indication of tipm failure.
Transmission oil lights always come on when car drives over 70 mph at least 2 hrs in hot weather. then car slow down and i have to pull over to let it cool off. it will do it 3-4 times during a long trip. it does every summer and the jeep dealer never found the problem.
Noticed a grinding sound in the front end of the jeep. told dealership when i took the vehicle in for oil change. they replaced the lower control arms thinking that was the problem. before leaving i could still hear the noise. maintenance tech rode with me and narrowed it down to the gas pedal. at low speed (3-10 mph) when pressing/releasing the foot feet you heard the grinding. told me to bring the vehicle back later. not sure what actions they took at the bring back but they knew it didn't correct the problem. told me they were contacting jeep for information and there was another vehicle with the same problem. contacted the dealership again and was told they were going to try were going to try something on the other vehicle since i lived so far away. contacted them and was told it didn't work. they thought it might be the nature of the beast! they were going to contact jeep again. after more calls...today frustrated i told them i was not happy at all with the run around. people outside of the jeep can hear it as i drive though mall parking lots because they look when it makes noise. planned on getting a new compass and selling this one to my son for trade in value but have concerns. talking to others it came up how these other cars that had problems did not recall until so many people died. if i am spending money on a vehicle i will spend it on something that does not grind for an unknown reason. i was told to bring the jeep in and they would loan me a car so they could work on for the whole day. set up a day and asked for a number to call jeep myself. they gave me the customer service number and the lady i talked to there was great. she talked to me, contacted the dealership-talking to the service gal i am dealing with, made another call and then gave me a number to call on friday when i take the jeep in with a case number and the website for this. *js
We purchased our 2011 jeep compass in december of 2011. approximately 3 months later my wife experienced an engine stall in the middle of making a left-hand turn going approx. 20 mph. there was no warning light or indication that the engine was no longer running. the power steering locked up and became very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle since happened in the middle of a turn into on-coming traffic. within a month later it happened to me and again while making a slow left-handed turn. my wife notified the dealership where we purchased the jeep and they said to bring it in next time it happened. it happened a 3rd time with my wife in june 2012 -again while making a left-handed turn. we then took the vehicle to the dealership for scheduled maintenance and to investigate the problem. they kept it for a week and said the computer diagnostics reported no issues. they said until it happened with them they couldn't isolate the problem. today, july 18th, 2012 it has happened again with my wife for the 4th time making a left-handed turn again. this is an extreme safety hazard and upon researching other customer complaints, it is quite common. in fact, i am finding that 25-50% of the customer complaints about the 2011 jeep compass are related to this engine stall out while driving. we have returned the vehicle to the dealership as we were instructed and i left them copies of the research i did and customer complaints so they have no reason to say it is isolated to just my vehicle because there is a definite trend that warrants a safety recall in my opinion. at this time it is in the hands of chrysler to bring this to a resolution. the vehicle only has about 8000 miles and lots of warranty left so i am hoping to see chrysler stand behind their reputation and do the right thing.
