We have classified the 45 complaints from 2007 Jeep Compass about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. the contact noticed that the front tires were worn in the middle. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that both the front end ball joints needed to be replaced. the vin was unavailable. the current and failure mileages were 46,000.
Metallic noises emitted from jeep compass 2007 model front passenger's side. it would creak when turning and would frequently lose control of right side tires in adverse weather. have fixed ball joint twice now and seemingly wears down over and over. reviewing other complaints for this model, this appears to be the norm. a broken down ball joint and consequent cracked axis would mean a very dangerous situation: flipping off the road, losing control at higher speeds, etc. thus far we have avoided serious injury but at less than 30k miles this should not be a recurring issue. *tr
I took my 2007 jeep compass 2x4 to have the drivers front tire repaired. the repair man found that the ball joints were bad and needed to be repaired. i checked it out online to find that many jeep compass owners have had the same problem and only has 41,375 original miles. this is a wide spread problem. my jeep was purchased from a dodge chrysler dealer. i ask that you force jeep chrysler to recall this vehicle for this defect. *tr
Took my 2007 jeep compass in for an oil change and tire rotation and was told that the lower ball joint on the front passenger side was bad and that i should get it repaired as soon as possible; that it was very dangerous to leave it as is. i found this website and found that this seems to be a very common problem. my car has 36,600 miles on it. the warranty was up at the end of july. how convenient. i plan on calling the dodge chrysler dealership in the morning and seeing if they will be able to help me out without this costing me a fortune. seems to me like this is a parts problem and that a recall should be issued. *tr
Passenger side lower front ball joint,(front was shaking while driving and had to be replaced) driver side front outer tie rod,(steering wheel was shaking while driving) both rear upper control arms. ( was not diagnosed until i was having wheel alignment done.) but rear tires were damaged from these parts being worn.. had to replace all these parts. only have rear upper control arms and tie rod. owners opinion is that factory wheels are to big for this vehicle and causing to much pressure on these parts. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. while the contact was driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began to pull to the left. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the front ball joints and front the wheel bearings would need to be replaced. also, the technician detected that additional repairs could possibly be required. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 112,000. the vin was unavailable.
Bought the car brand new in 2007. replaced left and right control arms in 2010 and again in 2014. the car only has 60,603 miles and its on its 3rd set of control arms. i should not be going through control arms that fast. i drive less than 2 miles to work everyday. filed a complaint with jeep in 2010 and they paid as "good will repair". the car was not under warranty. they refused to pay for the 2014 even though its only 30,000 miles later. control arms should be lasting longer than 30,000 miles! the car has had numerous repairs including a gas tank problem where gas poured back out at you while you pump. clearly there is something wrong with this vehicle. the attorney general in rhode island has referred me to this administrative agency. could you please help? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. the vehicle was being serviced at an authorized dealer when the mechanic advised the contact that the front tie rods and lower ball joints would need replacing. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for repairs. the failure and current mileage was 16,430.
What do ya know....control arm and ball joints going out at 50,000 miles....problem is your warranty wont cover and you can grease something now a days. so im out 500 bucks. one day woman is going to crash because of this issue and then will see what chrysler does...horrible! just wrong i say! *tr
Purchased 2007 jeep compass in 4/2010. it is now july and i hear clicking in back when i brake and the front clicks also. i brought it in for an oil change and they told me i also have ball joint issues. i brought it to my mechanic and he told me the same thing. what's going on. my car only has 46,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. the contact was reversing when an abnormal noise was heard from the front driver side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a local automotive repair facility where he was advised that the lower ball joints were loose and would need to be replaced. the dealer was unable to service the vehicle stating that the vehicle was outside of factory warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 37,000.
Started hearing a tire noise and clunking when turning or going over bump. took it to my service man. car unsafe to drive. dangerously bad lower ball joints. had to replace brakes due to this and tire has started to separate due to the looseness of the tire. i have the defective ball joints. my 2007 jeep compass has 41,000 miles on it and this should not have happened. multiple vehicles have had this problem yet no recall. there was a recall on this 2003 through 2006. obviously there is still a problem. this problem could be life threatening if the wheel comes off. i was lucky. *tr
Took 2007 jeep compass in for oil change. mechanic said that car was dangerous to drive as ball joints and control arms needed replaced and were so loose that they may cause accident. because of cost of repair, took car to jeep dealer for servicing to get a second opinion. they confirmed that the ball joints and control arms do need replaced and that they are dangerously loose. car is unsafe to drive. repair estimate is $935 although i'm trying to negotiate since this seems to be a defect with the car. *tr
Ball joints. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. the contact stated that the lower ball joints were replaced on three occasions and that the tie rod ends were replaced on two occasions. the vehicle was repaired at an independent mechanic twice and the dealer once. the technician was unable to replicate the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 60,259. updated 8/19/14*cn updated 9/5/2014 *js
Went in for new tires and the store reported to me that the lower ball joints were lose and it present a very serious safety issue. this was brought to my attention because the jeep compass had only 27,740 miles on it. *tr
I went in to get my oil changed and my tires rotated and was told my car is unsafe to drive and here is what they put on my invoice (verbatim) "needs both lower control arms passenger side front has a really bad ball joint and left outer tie rod end is bad also price to replace both outer tie rod ends and both lower ball joints $1083 plus tax and that includes the alignment!!!!!!!!! vehicle is unsafe to drive with ball joint is this condition!!!!!!!!!" (literally with all the exclamation marks.) i took the car somewhere else to get repaired (for half the cost) however i believe this is a part failure as i have less than 50k miles. *tr
Excessive play in front end. tierods were replaced at 50,000 km they were severely worn. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. while driving at any speed, the contact heard a rattling sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the outer driver's side tie rod and control arm needed to be replaced. the failure still persists. the current mileage was 53,800 and failure mileage was 6,762. updated 09/11/09 *bf updated 09/15/09.*jb
Entire suspension system is nothing but junk. replaced tie rod ends, inner and outer, ball joints, sway bar links, struts, hubs and axle. some of these parts more than once. the tire came dangerously close to falling off the vehicle with less than 24 hr notice that something was wrong. failed inspection last year for tie rod end that was replaced previous year. chrysler will not budge on taking responsibility for what my mechanic calls "junk". does someone have to die before they react?? *tr
