I visited a dealership to diagnose why the check engine light was on in my vehicle, as well as to diagnose why it was losing acceleration when approaching highway speed. after about half an hour, i was advised by the service advisor, that, 'they have been seeing a lot of this' and the cause was the gear shifter console which needed to be replaced. she followed this by stating the replacement was not covered under warranty and provided me with the estimated cost. perplexed, i inquired as to whether the cause was due to wear and tear and could this have been prevented through scheduled maintenance. ms. hawkins response was 'no'. further confused, i inquired as to why would the replacement then be the consumer's responsibility, as it would appear to me to have been a manufacturing malfunction. the rep's response was merely the same, the services are not covered under warranty and if not replaced the vehicle could get locked in the parked position while driving the vehicle. thus i was forced to comply paying more than $600 in repairs. *tr
My 2007 jeep commander stalled without warning while stopped at a traffic light in rush hour traffic. i pushed the brake and within seconds, the car stopped operating. pushing the accelerator did nothing. i turned the car off, turned it back on, and was able to continue driving. *tr
It happened shortly after purchasing my new 2007 jeep commander, it would give a hesitation while sitting at stop light or while in park like it was about to die, it would also rev up the engine like it was accelerating, we took it in a few months after we bought it, they said they found nothing wrong and did nothing at that time, it continued to do it, but we just put up with it because we figured we'd hear the same thing, (it don't happen every time we drive it, just periodically) so now, it's doing it more intensely, it's as if someone is mashing on the gas pedal while in park and also at stop lights while i have my foot on brakes, once it has jumped forward and i thought i would hit the car ahead of me. i took it in again, they reset the computer, and since, it has done it again a couple days after getting it out. i will call them back, but looking at the complaints online,it shows me something is terrible wrong with jeeps unintentionally accelerating, please help, i don't want to cause a accident or hurt myself or anyone else. i saved receipts from the dealership over this problem, please examine all our complaints, not everyone knows how to submit complaints to this agency, just look online or perhaps check every single dealership, thank you *tr

About 9 times over the last 3 years, my jeep commander 2007 limited v8 has stalled while moving causing the electrical components including lights, radio, dashboard panel, etc to momentarily turn off. each time, the stall is accompanied by a loud "clunking" noise. in each instance i have been traveling on the interstate 60+ mph. i am able to restart everytime by either pulling over or putting the car into neutral, restarting the engine, and then putting it back into drive while moving. i have discussed this with the dealership on two different occasions and have been told there is nothing they can do unless the check engine light comes on which has never occurred. this has happened to both of the primary drivers of the vehicle, and the ignition switch has never been accidentally turned off. *tr

Driving on highway at approx 60mph and vehicle engine shuts off. no check engine light. this happened twice that day... *tr
Basically the engine stalls out while vehicle is at idle. engine rpm's will increase up to 1200 and then drop to about 3000 rpms, and sometimes lower then this; almost to the point of killing the engine. it has occur twice to me, and three times to my wife. *tr

I first noticed my car's engine dying out approx. 2 mo. after purchasing it. it happened at a red light, and i started it right back up, and thought nothing much of it. the engine would putter at red lights (3 times over time). this past tuesday night, i left the grocery store, and the car would not go beyond 20 mph, no matter how i pressed the gas pedal. i had to drive with my emergency blinkers and take the access road home. i t was night, and i did't want to be hit or rear ended. i feel so disgusted, and angry, because i just purchased it this past summer on july 7, 2007.it has only approx 6,000 miles . this isn't normal. i have been reading about the deaths on the jeep commanders, where the car engine and all its lights will suddenly turn off, while driving at interstate speeds. i don't want my car anymore,i don't want to be a statistic. the car seemed normal the following morning. i am driving to and from work on the access roads. the problem with the local dealer here is that if the problem is not happening right before their eyes, they will write a computer print out that states "nothing wrong found", and send you away. i spoke to the general mgr. jack dunn, and explained the situation he told me i had probably pumped some dirty gasoline in the engine, because he knew of the same type of problem that happened to me with other cars. he also told me that i should never let the gasoline tank go lower than half-full. i plan to take it in to the dealer this friday. *tr
My 2007 jeep commander has stalled on me about 7 times so far, four of which almost resulted in serious accidents. it also accelerates while driving at one speed to a faster speed, almost causing me to have a rear end accident! but the worst of it all is when i am sitting at a light with my foot on the brakes and the car will jerk forward, again, almost causing a rear end accident(mind you my foot is still on the brake when this happens!) i also have a problem with the air whistling sound when all windows are rolled up i need help or i need to turn this hazard in! i have small children! *tr
I purchased my 2007 jeep commander n auguest of 2007. every since october, my truck will sometimes stall out on my when i'm at a red light or when i in idle with the car running. i then have to put the car in park, turn car off, and then re start car. this has happened numerous times, and i have nearly avoided being in an accidents. i have went to the dealership twice to report the problme, they claim they can not find the problem and they have not have any complaints. however, this is not true because numerous jeep owners have experienced this problem as well. please help before someone is seriusly injuried or killed. *cn
On approximately 6 occasions while driving my 2007 jeep commander, the vehicle has unexpectedly just shut off completely, steering wheel locks so you can't steer and it is very scary. especially since i have a 4 year old daughter who was riding with me on one occasion. i am now reading online of many people with this car who have the same experience. the dealer told me they reprogrammed the computer, but i am terrified to drive my new car. dealer also indicated they are not getting a lot of cooperation from the manufacturer on this one (as internet entries from others indicate as well). this is extremely dangerous. it also happened to me while i was driving on i-75 at about 70 mph. again, the whole car shuts off and you can't steer. something needs to be done immediately before someone is killed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander purchased brand new. she stated while traveling at various speeds of anywhere over 10mph, the vehicle would stall without warning. the vehicle was taken to her local dealer where they could not duplicate the failure. the dealer stated due to the cold temperatures, the vehicle computer would erase the diagnostic codes that were needed in order for them to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was left with the dealer because the contact did not feel it was safe to drive. there were no repairs made to the vehicle and there were no recalls. the failure and current mileages were 30,000.
The vehicle has stopped 2 times and stalled 3 while driving. my children were inside the vehicle it was scary. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the vehicle began shaking and stalled when engaging the brake pedal. there were no warning lights before the shaking and stalling occurred. on two occasions the dealer diagnosed the failure and the second time they updated the computer. twenty minutes after leaving the dealer the shaking and rattling recurred and has continued to become progressively worse. the dealer cannot diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 24,200. updated 5/14/09 *cn the consumer stated when his foot was on the accelerator, it jammed to the floor. and the engine began to rev, the consumer attempted to apply the brake, but the vehicle continued to rev. updated 05/14/09.*jb
Engine stall while driving at 45mph. i was able to pull into grass and restart. system seemed to reset by turning key off, then back on. nothing unique about day, sunny and 65 at 3pm est. *tr
When i bought my 2007 jeep commander 2 years ago, a problem occurred 2 months after buying the car, where it would slow down when i was driving at a fast speed. this only occurred once, so i let it slide; however, this recently started becoming a frequent problem. there are even multiple times when the engine just completely shuts off in the middle of the highway. this is very dangerous for me and my kids' safety. there was even a time when a car almost crashed into me because the stop was so sudden. the problem ranges from my car just slowing down automatically to completely shutting off. the engine also starts shaking which ends up shaking my entire car. i do not understand why this is happening, but i do know that it is not safe. i took my car to the dealership i purchased the car from 1 year ago, but they only told me that i should not worry. i then recently returned to the dealership again when i noticed the problem was becoming gradually worse, and they wanted to charge me 1000 dollars for damages that they were not even sure about. i did not find this to be just because i was not going to pay that amount of money for something that is not my fault. i researched online that the feds are actually involved with engine stall problems for jeep commanders because more than 135,000 people have the same complaint as i do. this is very dangerous and something needs to be done. so far, i have not received any significant help. *tr
While driving our practically new family 2007 jeep commander the engine stalled, at highway speed (70 mph +). i pulled to the shoulder; and re-started the jeep. i drove about 40 miles, and w/o warning the jeep stalled again. it also stalled a few days later, as i drove at city speed (30 mph). every thing appeared to be normal during these occurrences -- no warning lights or beeps. when my husband and i returned from the trip, we took the jeep to the dealer. they kept the jeep 6 days. the service department rep. said the engineers were unable to duplicate the problem, that every thing checked out okay. the rep did say that chrysler is aware of the problem but do not have a fix, however he was advised to release the jeep to us. we objected to taking the jeep and the dealer worked out an acceptable deal on another model. we bought the jeep new, 3 months before the incident. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving the vehicle intermittently stalls without any prior warnings. usually after several attempts he was able to restart the vehicle to resume normal vehicle operation. the vehicle was in the process of being inspected by the dealer to determine the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 18,000. the current mileage was 38,800.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving between 50-60 mph, the transmission failed and the vehicle shut off. the vehicle was able to be restarted five minutes later. the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer on three occasions. the dealer stated that the cause of failure was due to the key in the ignition, the transmission, and the converter needed to be changed. the current mileage was 13,200 and failure mileage was 9,000. updated 03/04/08.*lj transmission fluid was leaking from the valve body connector area.
My husband and i had just bought our first new vehicle a 2007 jeep commander. it only had 65 mi. or so on it when we bought it. i absolutely loved it. then all of a sudden when i was pulling into a parking spot with my 20 month old little girl my car stalled. i almost hit a lincoln navigator! i went to the car dealership and they said they couldn't find a problem. that was at 1400 miles! then at 3700 mi. i was idling at a red light and my car starting shaking really bad! then i accidentally put my car in 4th gear and then it wouldn't go back into drive. it has been an awful experience owning this commander! the car dealership also told me the seats were stain resistant and they are not by any means i have taken my car up close to 15 times to have apple juice taken out of my "stain proof" cloth seats. i would not recommend this car to anyone!!!!!*jb
Rolling to a slow stop the vehicle stalled unexpectedly. there was a loss of power brakes. the vehicle was restarted successfully. *tr
The 2006 jeep commander stalled 3 times in the 10 months of ownership. 2 out of the 3 stallings were on a heavy traffic interstate in atlanta, ga. events leading up to failure included driving approximately 65 miles an hour, a/c powered on failure, and its consequences resulted in engines turning off completely, and requiring a full restart. cars going the same speed as myself 65 mph)were swerving to miss me. to correct the failure jeep gave engine a software upgrade, and stated that should fix the problem. the service manager stated that he would not guarantee the service performed. it was only my life at stake, right?? i filed a formal legal complaint to chrysler to get out of my lease.*ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. on april 3, 2007, the vehicle's engine failed while driving 35 mph. there were no warning indicators other than the vehicle began to decelerate. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 3,500 and failure mileage was 2,535. updated 06/14/07. *jb
We purchased a 2007 jeep commander on feb.10. it has 2,000 miles on it. last week, the engine "threw a rod" through the side of the engine requiring a new engine to be installed. it was the result of road rainwater being taken into the engine through the air intake. i am having to file a claim with my insurance company to replace the engine. the water on ther road was minimal. i continue to see jeep advertisements on television showing the jeep commander driving thru water... the consumer needs to be aware that the vehicle cannot be driven thru water...
