Car lights illuminated and jeep lost power. had to rent a car to take my kids to see santa. the ignition switch needs replaced under recall p41 but no parts are available from manufacturer. car is dangerous and shouldn't be driven. chrysler has been contacted and says they are sorry but parts are not available. recall is over 3 months and no one is doing anything about the safety issue so many owners are facing. it is dangerous. nhtsa has numerous complaints on same issue but no one is making chrysler fix the problem. no one is governing the recall. according to nolo: contact the nhtsa. if you are still unable to get relief, contact the nhtsa. although you can skip the first two steps and contact nhtsa immediately, it is usually better to contact the service manager and manufacturer first -- since most problems are solved at those levels. you can contact the nhtsa by telephone at 888-327-4236 or by mail at 1200 new jersey avenue, se, west building, washington, d.c. 20590. or fill out a form at the nhtsa's interactive website at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov. yet, nothing is being done. there is no remedy and no one is making chrysler give another solution. exactly how long does the manufacturer have to comply? i think over 3 months is plenty of time. *tr

While driving the vehicle on a slippery road during a snowfall, my wife observed all of the indicator lights on the dashboard light up simultaneously. shortly thereafter, the engine shut off, causing a loss of power steering and consequently a loss of control of the vehicle on the slippery roadway. as a result, the vehicle slid into a highway maintenance marker along the shoulder of the road, causing minor damage to the license plate holder and bumper of the vehicle. our concern is that this incident is apparently due to a defective ignition switch, which is the subject of a current recall (14v-438) issued by the manufacturer on 9/3/14. however, the manufacturer has not provided a remedy for this defect, citing the unavailability of repair parts, and as of this morning the manufacturer has no idea as to when these repair parts will be available. in the meantime, the phenomenon of the dashboard indicators suddenly and spontaneously illuminating while driving continues to recur rather frequently, and we are afraid that a recurrence of the engine shutoff and loss of power steering and brake assist will also recur, perhaps at a time and location where a much more serious crash will result. *tr

While attempting to get on the highway the jeep lost power at approximately 35mph from the on ramp on to the right lane of the freeway. all the lights shut off, all the gauges shut down, and the vehicle began to slow down. it lasted approximately 4-5 seconds, and after stepping on the accelerator, the jeep re-engaged and was able to be driven to a safe destination. the jeep is under recall p41 for ignition switch issues, which may or may not be causing the issues, but the parts are not available from chrysler. the parts have not been manufactured and/or distributed. it is possible the vehicle has a bad control module. the recall for faulty control modules was issued sept. 21, 2014 but this make and model was not covered in that recall ... although it seems likely it is having similar issues. *tr

Driving down the road at 65mph and the speedometer and tach will go to 0 and then back up to operating speed. warning lights on dash will come on and off along with the fan for heater and air. chrysler recalled these exact issues in july stating " some jeep commander vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving which may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. until this repair is completed the vehicle can be driven". my only question is for how long? how long until someone is injured or dead from the vehicle losing power. on chrysler recall website for this vehicle it stated they were to issue another letter or information on this issue in september. it is now november. *tr

I was slowly pulling through a stop light (stop and go traffic up to it). jeep suddenly lost power of all kinds - stalled engine, no emergency flashers, no radio, nothing. tried to turn key & restart it a # of times but it was dead. ambulance drove by, stopped & pushed me out of the road. as they were pushing me, electrical came back on. so i tried to turn key again and car started. **i am pretty confident that my knee did not touch the key- i am too short for that and also the car would not restart once stalled- i turned key many times to tr and get out of the road and car remained dead/powerless. all electrical was off. once car came back on, radio stations no longer programmed, etc. much like the battery had died. ** plz note, mileage is estimated- i need to go look inside car. *tr
