Problems with 2018 Jeep Cherokee UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 23 175 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Right when my vehicle hit 25,000 miles, i noticed that on the highway while in motion the service shifter light came on and gear shift lights all in red, p,r,n,d. you shut the engine off and all turn off then when you start driving again they'll do the same. it'll stop for a few days and then start again. finally took it to the dealership it ended up begin wires and a shifter harness. a lot of jeep cherokee 2017-2019 owners are experiencing the same thing right around the same miles. this needs to become a recall.

My gear shifter lights all light up and the display on my dash board said service shifter this happened while driving at 35 mph

Service shifter light came on and all the lights on shifter came on and won't go off. p r n d, etc. was driving down interstate, took exit and when i was coming to stop at stop sign a warning beep sounded and lights came on shifter and dash saying service shifter. cannot find anything about servicing a shifter.

Service shifter lights up.

2018 cherokee 24,834 miles. put in reverse while backing out of drive. service shifter light appeared and all gear light indicators illuminated red.

The car stopped working while in motion in the middle of the street while turning towards my apartment complex. i had my daughter inside the car with me and i was afraid cars will come since i was in the middle of the street were cars pass by to enter the apartment complex. i was able to push the car after calling my dad who helped me take it to a safe spot and jump start the car. the car worked after doing a jump start and i was able to park it at my parking spot. the next day i was leaving to drop off my daughter to school and same thing happened again. i was inside the car coming out (in motion) and the car stopped suddenly and wouldn't turn. i called road assistance this time. they sent me a towing company to take it to the closest jeep dealership. since the car was not able to turn on at all, they were not able to take it. they said the car need it a flat bed tow truck since it didn't start at all. they were able to tow the car 3 days later on saturday 12/07/19 by a towing company that had a flat bed tow truck and took it to the closest jeep dealership. the car is currently at orlando dodge jeep dealership and they said the win module needs to be replaced, the battery needs to be recharge and get new keys. i bought this car brand new with 0 mileages from jeep dealership only 1 year and 6 months old. i decided to buy a new car in order to avoid risks like these one of being left in the middle of the street/road with my daughter inside the car. thankfully this did not happen in the middle of route i-4 were i normally drive.

Car stalled and the panel stated shift to park on panel and would not crank back. tried multiple times and had a long hard crank and engine finally caught up and cranked. shifted into park and went about 1000 - 1500 feet and it died again. waited and tried to crank again and went to hard crank again before starting. took to dealer and they claimed low oil. this is the reason for going dead. stated i needed oil changes every 5k after i was told initially 10 k then at 1st oil change told 7500k and then at this problem they stated no it was definately 5 k. this time, panel lights up and says service shifter soon. all lights on drive shifter lights up. not just on park or reverse or drive. all lights illuminated. they come and go. i also have smelled something burning the last day or so as well. could not confirm yet. i will continue to watch out for this. 1st date 12/4/19 and serviced at dealer on 12/5/19 mileage 31146 and now this is 2/4/20 mileage today is 34116

While driving on the highway, a "service shifter" notice comes up on my sh. all the lights next to each gear light up on my shifter. the notice won't go away unless i turn the car off for at least 5 minutes. it comes back anywhere between immediately and 10 days later. usually daily. dealer says they've never heard of it but there are reports all over the internet. some way the car will eventually stall or you cannot put it in park.

I have a 2018 jeep cherokee latitude with 36,000 miles on it. i cranked it up and noticed the service shifter light on and all the lights beside my shifter actually lit up! the service shifter light had my dash locked at that and wouldn't go off til i turned my jeep off and cranked it back up. this has happened several different times! i have my jeep at the dealership now and they are trying to charge me to have it fixed. this should be under warranty or a recall should be in place. several people have had this happen according to the internet! i pay a lot of money for this jeep and i'm not happy at all! please please fix this!

Service shifter message coming up, all lights on shifter turning red and car not driving properly. have to turn the car off and back on several times to make it go away.

Service shifter warning came on dashboard and all gear shift lights were lit red. (prndl). this is second time this has happened in 5 months. 2018 jeep cherokee under 14,000 miles!!! got in my vehicle started it and then the warning and lights came on. turned vehicle off for a few minutes and restarted and no more warning!! this shouldn't be happening to a new vehicle and there are many reports of this happening to have it recalled!!

We purchased a used 2018 jeep cherokee latitude (less than 13,000 miles) from a dealership in colorado springs on 10/17. on the way home, about 100 miles, the stop /start warning light and battery light went on about 8 miles from home going approx. 50 mph. we decided to get it home. at the bottom of the driveway, we placed the car in reverse and noticed that power steering was not working. we turned off the vehicle and at restart, the warning lights were reset. we notified the dealership immediately and they recommended changing out battery. we drove about 15 miles to an auto parts store and bought the best battery they had for that vehicle. we did not use the jeep for the next day (friday). saturday 10/19 we drove it down to denver (about 60 miles) with no problem. on the way home, again the stop /start warning light and battery light went on going approx. 60 mph. we drove to a parking lot and made a turn into a parking spot. at that point power steering was operable. i placed the car in park and then in reverse and then noticed no power steering, i placed the car in drive and again no power steering. we stopped and restarted the vehicle and the warning lights were reset. about 2 minutes later while driving, i noticed that the driver's side seat warmer and rear defrost had both been switched on automatically.

I have a little over 13300 miles on my jeep as i went to park my car i noticed the service shifter light was on as well as park, reverse, neutral, and drive were all lit up on the shifter when i looked this up on google there where a number of complains my jeep is still brand new i should not be having this problem! i did not turn it back on to see if it went away i plan on taking it to a dealership first thing in the morning. i also bought it when it only had 5 miles on it no reason at all for this to happen therefore should be a recall!

While driving my 2018 jeep cherokee a message appeared on the dash 'service shifter' all lights on the shifter then light up red the 'prndl' this has happened multiple times. the vehicle seems to not shift gears properly when this happens. it has been checked by the dealer and the shifter/ wiring harness need to be replaced. i was informed this is an ongoing issue with most jeeps in the last few years and no recall has yet been made, i have only owned this vehicle for 7 months and am very disappointed thus far. this being an ongoing issue that jeep is aware of i feel that some action should be made for the customer. i am a loyal jeep customer but after this issue not being resolved for years i may not continue to be a loyal customer and go elsewhere to purchase my next vehicle. this first occurred on september 25,2019 and has happened multiple times since the first occurrence.

The service shifter light keeps coming on.

Service shifter light pops up on screen and the p,r,n,d all light up at once while driving.

Low pressure oil light comes on when turning. once the car did not start, i had to get it towed, to find out the car was out of oil, though the display read low oil pressure is at 53%. i got an oil change and a little over a month, the light started to come back on.

I was driving down the road when my 2018 jeep cherokee suddenly stalled without warning shutting all systems down. i was stuck in the middle of my lane with know means of moving my vehicle to a safe area. i called triple a and waited 1.5 hours in the middle of the road for a wrecker. apparently my vehicle was low on oil so it shutdown. however i was not due for an oil change and my oil life was at 13%. my vehicle warning lights did not alert me that i was low on oil. i made a complaint to my service person at charlie's in augusta maine several months ago when i took the vehicle in for an oil change at 8000 miles and it was 2 quarts low. they told me it's common for a vehicle to use that much oil between oil changes. they did an oil cconsumption test and said it was normal. jeep says you can use a quart every 800 miles. that is 7.5 quarts between oil changes in a new vehicle. unacceptable and not safe for a vehicle to shutdown driving down the road without any warning. consumer stated this is the first time it has stalled due to low oil pressure. however a few oil changes ago charlies did an oil change and told me my oil levels were low. i thought this unusual and they did an oil consumption test with no findings. at this time they did not tell me there was an oil consumption service bulletin on this vehicle. *jb

Service shifter message keeps appearing on the dash and all of the lights on the shifter will turn red. has been happening at least once a day (sometimes 4-5 times) and typically happens when i hit a bump (no matter how small or big). it can also sometimes happen when you tap the side of the console. forums online suggest that the issue is happening because the wires from the shifter keep bumping into catalytic converter and shorting (https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68742_ds990296). i am still able to drive the car when it happens, but it is incredibly annoying because i cannot see anything on the dashboard.

I was driving about 40 mph on a county road and the error noise went off. on the dash i got a 'service shifter' notice and all lights on the shifter stayed lit red ' p, r, n , d, and the - and +'. i pulled over, shut off the car, waited a minute and turned the car back on and it went away.

While i was driving on a city street to get to the highway almost 5 hours away from my house my dash screen popped up with a warning saying that my shifter needed serviced... when i looked at the gear shifter all of the lights were lit up(p,r,n&d)...i freaked out and pulled off at a gas station put it in park turned off the ignition and waited a minute... when i started the car back up all of the lights shut off and it was fine... i have no idea what caused it to happen it literally happened out of nowhere...

Service shifter appeared on my dashboard. the gears all went red. the car was able to move as normal, but the message was still there. i turned the car off and restarted and the message went away.

I was driving around 35 mph when got was slowing down for stop light and it just shut completely off and would not restart. i sat for a minute with hazards on and then tried to start it, it was turning over but not starting so i had to give it gas while trying to start it. got home and went back out later to test it and started up. it shuts totally down with no warning

Service shifter light came on. which is very unsafe because the car can go into gear now without having to hit the breaks..

During the course of traveling on june 18th 2019 i received a message via the display that said "service shifter". in addition the gear shift panel (park, reverse, drive) collectively illuminated in red. the issue gave the impression that the transmission or gears could cease from working while in motion.

The service shifter light comes on and all gears are showing up in red while driving. turning the vehicle off then back on sets the gear back to normal for only a few minuets, then service indicator light comes back on with all gears illuminated in red. the jeep has the tendency to jerk forward when placed into park and also during accelaration the transmission seems to lag causing a jerking motion in my jeep.

Multiple times while driving 'service shifter' displays on dash. all light of the shifter are lit red. this has happened at low speeds, high speeds and whole idling.

Recieved a "service shifter" message and all the lights near the shifter were luminated red

Service shifter warning comes on but can't be fixed

This vehicle consistently is 1 quart low on oil during each oil change, and there is no oil on the dipstick, despite the fact i get my oil changed prior to the recommended mileage, and less than every 3 months. i am using synthetic oil in the car. i have taken it to the original dealership, then an oil change shop twice, and then another dealership to look at the issue. the last dealership advised me they would do an oil consumption test and that i needed to check my oil dipstick frequently as the engine will shut off if the oil gets too low. no indicator light has ever displayed indicating an issue with the low oil or oil pressure. many times the display shows i have 40% or more oil life left, despite the fact the car will be 1 quart low on oil, with no oil on the dipstick. the car has 26500 miles on it. the first time the issue was noted was when my car did shut off in drive, and i pulled it into an oil change place who advised me there was not enough oil in the engine. the car had just hit the mileage mark to be changed. this occurred in the fall of 2018.

Vehicle stopping and shutting off completely while driving (in motion) each and every time on four different occasions. first time it shut off, dealership said it was due to oil change.second time dealership said a recall on the shift gear in which i wasn't notified about the recall. third time it shut off, dealership says its an oil leakage. fourth time it stopped, dealership says it needs a new engine. chrysler refuses to fix it. the last time i took it to the dealership, chrysler response was take it home and drive it again and bring it back if it shuts off and maybe then we will fix it. i had to have it towed in the last time due to it not starting and smoking in the tail pipe. on two occasions, the radio cut off completely, screen just went black. my car is now at the dealership waiting on approval from chrysler to get fixed. this jeep is very unsafe, dangerous, and a safety hazard for my son and i. it has put me and my sons life in danger on four different occasions. i am terrified to drive this vehicle even if they can fix it because its not a guarantee that i will not have these issues again and next time it could cost us our lives.

The "service shifter" light will turn on. it has happened twice, the first time at less than ten miles per hour in a parking lot and the second time on the interstate going 70 mph. when the service shifter light turns on, it illuminates the prnd lights on the shifter to all red. since they are all red, you cannot tell if you are in park completely. there is 26,650 miles on the vehicle. it is currently getting serviced, the dealership i bought it from said it only needed flashed with the computer, however the dealership that is closest to my home (and the one who is currently replacing the gear shifter) told me the gear shifter had to be replaced and flashing with the computer would not fix the issue, as this was a frequent issue they have seen. if there is a frequent issue with the shifter in these vehicles, they need to be recalled. this is very dangerous and scary to not have any way of knowing if you are in park, reverse, neutral or drive.

Service shifter lite up as well as all gears. i was currently in park when it happened. read several jeep owner inquires upon googling the issue. doesn't sound good!

My jeep keeps illuminating all drive trains and telling me to service shifter. i've had the whole wiring harness replaced a month ago with 10,000 miles and now it is doing it again! i have to kill the engine and turn it back on. most times service shifter still remains on the screen.

My jeep cherokee has been shutting off while driving. this car was purchased brand new. this has happened several times. the original dealership, keffer chrysler jeep in charlotte, nc, has not returned any of my calls about this issue so i've had to go to another dealership to get this issue resolved. i have to take the vehicle for oil consumption tests but i do not feel safe in this vehicle because of the fact that it shuts off while driving. the last time it shut down i was on a main highway and was almost hit. *dt*jb consumer stated car completely shut off, losing control of the vehicle. there was no warning sign, which caused several accidents.*jb

While driving the words "service shifter" appear on the car's console and the letters on the gear shifter (d, n, r) all light up simultaneously and stay lit.

Car caught fire. manufacturer did not investigate. dealership where it was towed tampered with evidence

Vehicle will stall dealership claims battery is not charging computer check shows multiple low voltage codes

The automobile shuts off (while in motion) when it's time for an oil change (around 3000 miles). it mostly shuts off during turns but it has shut off on the highway before. the oil light never comes on, the battery light does although there isn't an issue with the battery. after waiting a few minutes, it's possible to start the automoblie again without the assistance of a boost.

While vehicle was in motion a 'service shifter' light eliminated and all of the gear lights were on while the car was in drive. once i stopped the car, parked, and turned the engine off, i waited a few minutes and restarted the car, the lights were gone. this is the second time in one week this has happened.

I have had it happen multiple times, with no solution. my screen on the dashboard would have a message come across it saying "service shifter" with all the prnd-+ lights come on. it happens when i'm either driving or parked.

I backed out of my garage into the driveway and stopped the car to bring in the recycling bin. i shifted into what i thought was park, released the break, and exited the car. after i had exited, the car began to move forward toward the open garage. i attempted to jump back into the car in order to stop it and sustained a serious hand injury as the jeep's door slammed into the side of the garage and closed back upon me. similar runaway car events have occurred to me in this car (with less dramatic consequences) twice prior, but never in 25 years before i purchased this 2018 grand cherokee. some 2018 jeeps have been recalled for faulty park lock rods, so my concern is that the events i experienced have been due to the inability to achieve park. even if i erroneously put the car in drive, it should typically have started to move forward as soon as i released the break, alerting me that the car was in gear. instead, nothing happened for 3 seconds - this provided a false sense of security that the car was in park and worse, gave me enough opportunity to exit. this delay can be reproduced when transitioning from reverse to drive. lastly, when the door in the grand cherokee is opened while the car is in gear, it simply beeps once - a very minimal and inadequate alert system.

Stationary battery not starting after sitting up a day or two

For the past three months since labor day of 2018, my 2018 jeep cherokee latitude has not started on several occasions. eventually it does start but it will always say, "cannot read key fob". i have discovered that it's worse when i use the remote start to warm it up. what's really weird is that i have discovered that when i get out of my vehicle and go to the back hatch and use the remote to lock and unlock the doors, it starts after that. go figure. just this week, the driver side door wouldn't shut twice within three days. the latch was stuck. eventually, after trying just about everything i could think of like turning the vehicle on and off and locking and unlocking the doors from the inside of the vehicle, i tried using the remote to lock and unlock the doors, and then the driver side door shut properly. i don't understand why such a new vehicle purchase brand new in april of this year with less than 14, 000 miles on it would have so many problems. the dealership is picking it up again tomorrow for the third time to attempt to fix it. last chance. if not fixed this time, i will be getting legal representation. not sure if these are safety issues but i know that driving down the road with the door not closed properly could be a hazard. i am just wondering if something else might go wrong with it next. i am really disappointed in this vehicle to say the least!

While driving my dash will suddenly state "service shifter" and all my gear shifter lights will be lit up. the only way i get them off is i have to pull over, stop, turn vehicle off, and restart it. this has happen in town and on the highway. this has happened now several times over approximately 4 months now. the first time being when i got my first oil change.

Panoramic sunroof exploded outward - at 5:15 am, i was just starting to get on the on ramp to the freeway. i was not up to freeway speed yet. weather conditions were good and approx. 61 degrees. as i was driving on the onramp i heard a loud explosion that freaked me out so bad i was thankful i did not crash. i pulled to the side of the road all tires were fine. all surrounding windows were fine. i had the sunroof barrier closed so i didn't even think about the sunroof until i heard chards of glass beads on the barrier. i pulled to the side of the freeway in the dark and gradually opened up the barrier to the sun roof a little. i could see that almost the entire pane of the back part of the panoramic sunroof had shattered making a huge gaping hole. i turned the car around and went home. if it was a rock or something was dropped on it the rock still would have been there on the barrier. the sunroof literally bows upward and it cracked at the seams so you can see it has definitely blown out. this is a manufacturer defect that could have caused an accident or worse if the barrier had been open and the glass had shattered on me. it is obviously made of safety glass. the explosion was very loud and ear piercing.

A few minutes after parking my car, neighbors reported an "explosion" and looked outside to see the front of the car engulfed in flames *bf updated 11/26/18*jb

The service shifter light just came on

While driving highway speeds there is a vibration between 60 and 80 miles per hour. i have had the tires replaced, rims replaced and no change in vibration. it has started since i owned the vehicle with 7 miles on the odometer till today with 9000 miles on it. the dealer claims that this is normal throughout the line of cherokees and is just "road vibration" but talking with other owners this is not the case and they do not experience the same thing. it does tend to fade away during long left turns on the freeway but appears as soon as the vehicle straightens. numerous attempts to get the dealership to fix this has resulted in no headway as the dealer claims that this is normal.

My jeep does not stay locked. i can lock the car, but if someone tries to open it, they are able to without a problem, even when the fob is nowhere near the car. all that happens is the theft alarm triggers. my car was opened by someone in a parking garage at work even though myself and the fob were not near the vehicle. the alarm went off but the person was able to open my door with no problem,
