Service shifter automatically popped on while driving on a public street. went home was able to reverse and park . turned off car let it sit for 2-3 mins and it no longer popped on. dont think it's under warranty
Service shifter warning, shifter lights from prnd, while in drive
Service shifter warning light came on and all red lights on by my gear shift came on while i was driving. when i stop the car and restart it everything is normal for about 30 miles then it does this again. i have read lots of complaints on this. it needs to be a recall.
While driving i hear a notification bing and the dash says 'service shifter' and all the shifter's indicator lights are solid red. apparently this happens a lot and restarting the engine only temporarily resets the computer to acceptable.
The shifter service light comes on and all the lights on the gear shift light up red. i have to turn the car off and then on again to shift gears. it happens at random times on a regular basis. i'm listing the first time it happened, but it happens more and more.
Takata recall my jeep is a 2017 and has had nothing but problems. the thermostat sensor to the transmission feeling like it can't even support the vehicle to my rpm going all the way up to 6000 when going up hill that makes my car sound like it's going to blow up now my service shifter light is on. every time i take it to the dealership they run 'updates' this does nothing at all.
Service shifter light came on when driving g home, i can't see my speed.
'service shifter' message while driving. all the lights on the shifter come on; prnd. message goes away once the vehicle is restarted. i have heard nothing but complaints about this and nothing is being done.
The rear back up camera cuts out while backing up and goes to static.
22.476 miles on vehicle and service shifter message appearing while driving
Service shifter message came on. all the lights on shifter are red. i was in my drive about too run an errand
At 26000 miles "service shifter" warning came. happened when starting engine. all shifter lights came on. seems to be a problem with these jeep models which jeep has been unable to fix. could cause a failure and leave you stranded in untenable situation especially if you elderly. apparently jeep is aware but have been unable to fix it so that it does not repeat again in a few thousand miles.
Service shifter
When i first purchased my vehicle at 50,000 miles the service shifter came on, we got it fixed no problem. now i am at 56,000 miles and the service shifter has now come back on. i have read hundreds to thousands of complaints about this problem with jeep cherokees and something needs to be done about it. please recall jeep cherokees.
When you crank the car all the red lights come on and it beeps then states service shifter.
Service shifter light
While driving service shifter came on freezing display while all lights in shifter turned red. pulled off turn off vehicle to rest.
While driving home from work on 5-7-19 i heard a ding & a the message service shifter came up on my dash & the red lights next to the gear shift all lit up. i was moving at the time & when i reached a stop light i put vehicle in park then back to drive but nothing changed. took it directly to the dealership & they said they'd only heard of this happening to a few vehicles but i have just found tons of complaints for the same issue. ordering parts for it but i'm afraid to drive it & was told it would take a couple of days to get the parts followed by them calling me to set up a time to bring it in for repair. this is a 2017 with a little over 27k miles. i shouldn't have to be doing this yet or ever.
Service shifter light constantly comes on. told nothing is wrong other than can be replaced. not covered under warranty. seems to be a common occurrence with the vehicles and should be a recall.
Service shifter
My service gear shifter light keeps coming on. all bottoms light up on shifter. feels kinda like it having trouble shifting. i pulled over shut car off and light went off. i drove it another week with no issues and light can on again.
I have had my jeep cherokee for 3 years and my vehicle has been jerking the whole time i had the vehicle. finally today, a service error came up. it says service shifter while the vehicle was in motion on the highway and city streets. it felt like my vehicle was about to turn off. it was jerking very badly and i was concerned for my toddler son safety as well as my own safety. i been doing some research and several people are having the same issue as myself..
Shift gear light comes on
I purchased my jeep back in april 2019 and i have been an issue with the gear shift almost every single month to current. my car will literally shut off in the middle of the road and will read "service shift gear". i have to put the car in park and turn it off, wait a couple of minutes for it to crank back up and the the message goes away. this is extremely dangerous because recently this happened to me while driving down the highway! i do not understand why this is not a recall and i have looked this issue up and there are several other people who are experiencing this same problem. i have not been able to get help from the dealerships. nothing specifically happens when the car shuts off it will just do it randomly.
For no apparent reason the "service shifter" message appears on the instrument panel blocking most other active driving information and all dots on the shifter housing become red. see pics. this has occurred countless times since we purchased the vehicle in 2018, but does not appear to affect it's driving capability. i have combed through countless jeep forums on the internet and would say it is a very common problem however with no clear solution. jeep has failed to address this ongoing issue and i am uncertain of the potential risk i am taking by continued driving of this vehicle and what effect this actually has on the vehicle and its future drivability
It began with the check engine light staying on even after oil changes, then when i would turn on the ignition key it would make a tap tap sound as though it didnt have any power, or while i would be at a complete stop while at a light it would sound as though the jeep was losing power and was going to turn off, then it did turn off on me when the light turned green. i had the battery checked by a friend he said it was reading that it has power and that the alternator is good also, then finally it left me stranded at wt work, it wouldn't turn on. i have no one to help me so i took a chance and asked a stranger to please check my car, he gave me a boost, it took 2 min to get my jeep going again..this morning at 4:30 am i wasnt able to go to work my jeep wouldn't turn on..so my neighbor took my to auto parts to buy a new battery, my jeep is 2 years old..i'm a single 52 year old female,i cant afford to be stranded or unable to get to work.
Gear shifter: all lights come on and an error code stating that shifter needs to be serviced. this has happened twice within approximately one month apart. if the vehicle is turned off and restarted the error code does not return.
3/15/2019 at 12:15 i was driving back to work after lunch and my center display panel suddenly change from displaying mph to a message that read "service shifter". when i looked at my gear shift all lights were lit instead of just d. i immediately returned home (i was a mile away) and put the car into park. the message remained on my center console and lights remained lit. i turned off/on the vehicle with same results. i put vehicle into garage and called rothrock motors to schedule an appointment. will drop vehicle of 3/16/19 but no eta on return since they cannot tell me what the issue is until they look at it. however, i've found hundreds of complaints in the past 2 years after a very quick google search with same issue for jeeps, not just my model.
Service shifter appears on dash while driving and all lights on shifter illuminate. this has occurred twice-- once when starting the vehicle from being parked for several hours and again once the car was driving at about 35-40mph. each time i cut the car off and restarted the vehicle and the lights disappeared.
While driving my 2017 jeep cherokee it will randomly have a warning for @service shifter' on the dash and all lights on the left of the gear shift will be red for prnd +\- (several times a week so i have to pull over shut off the car and wait and turn it back on). when searching the web there were several forums with the same thing in other jeep models and a lot of the cherokees and were all having problems with the dealers wanting to fix it correctly. this is very dangerous as it means the car can not tell what gear it is in. lord forbid it throw its self in park while going 70 on the interstate. this needs immediate attention.
On numerous occasions when i start my vehicle the all of the lights on the shifter light up. the dash will then say the message "service shifter now". the only way to clear the message is to shut my car off and restart it. sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. last time it happened i hooked up a tester to see if it gave a code. it gave code u0164 "lost communication with hvac control module". i shut it off and restarted and the dash said "no bus" and i had no control over my front windows, radio, touch screen or hvac. my heater was on high and so was the fan. i couldn't do anything to change it. after i shut it off for apx. 15 minutes or so it corrected itself. speeds varied from 0 mph up to 60 mph. sometimes had to drive with the message because it wouldn't go away after restarting the vehicle several times.
About 6 months ago my 2017 jeep shifted into neutral while i was driving in automatic mode. a notification popped up saying i needed ot be in park to shift. my car stopped in the middle of the road and i needed to shut it off, wait a few minutes and then turn it back on for it to restart. this happened a couple of times and my dealership could not see me for at least another week. one of the times it happened, my car would not turn back on and i required roadside assistance to tow my car. when the dealership finally looke at it, they saw nothing wrong except maybe i needed a software update. they did the update and my car was fine until recently. this happened again while i was driving and was stuck in the middle of the road with a line of cars behind me. my dealership cannot see me for another week and a half. i took my car to an autoshop and they saw nothing wrong with the car. they ran a diagnostic and noticed the software may not be aligned properly meaning the communication is off. i am frustrated and angry. this is extremely dangerous and there are no warnings when this is about ot happen. i first got this car because i was expecting a baby. i thought this would be safe and reliable. i am too afraid to drive my child to daycare in case this happens again and someone hits us from behind. i will never get a jeep again.
At 9000 miles the service shifter message came on while driving from carthage to galveston texas contacted a local dealer and was told dont place in park to take it to the dealership drove it back to marshall texas to dealership and they said they were having problems with the shifter so replaced the entire shifter.. at 40,000 miles shifter light again took to dealership in carthage and said they fixed the tcm to transmission. now at 49000 it has done it again, replacing the wiring harness from shifter to transmission. been in shop for a week still no word .the service shifter comes on evey time it is cranked.
My car has turned off twice in the last week within my first 3 miles while driving. this happened on 2 separate days. no warning signs, no codes/notification lights on dashboard. *dt*jb
I was driving and the following happened: jeep completely died while driving, battery light illuminated & the screen displayed "place in p, then select gear", i attempted it but i had no power, no ability to steer or brake. i was also broken down in on coming traffic and wasn't able to move. i had to put in neutral and push my jeep out of the middle of the hwy. i'm 26 and 5'4. i'm scared for my life. i cried all the way to work. all i could see was getting impaled by a driver, getting killed and risking losing my 2 year old son! i'm not happy, i'm scared for my life and i have no idea what to do or where to turn! the dealership isn't answering my calls or responding to any messages! *bf consumer stated problem was caused by piston rings were faulty. *jb
Vehicle has just shut off approx 10 times in the last 2 weeks. sometimes its 'dings' while driving normal and does not stall but most of the time its stalls as driving. either ive just pulled out onto a road or made a turn. the car will just shut off and says to put in correct gear. the car will not turn over and restart for approx 10 minutes. very very dangerous!!!!!
I was taking my car out of park when i noticed a really loud clicking noise coming from the shifter. i took it back to the dealership and i was told that the shifter would be replaced. when i picked my truck up the noise was even louder, and this time i had an error message on my dash board that read "service shifter". at that time the dealership had already replaced the shifter. after they ran more test and attempted to fix it a total of 10 times, i am still having the same issue, where the error message says "service shifter" and the clicking sound is very loud. after speaking with the service manager at the dealership, he informed me that the shifter was just recently replaced once again and that the other attempts to replace the shifter were a result of the replacement shifters being "bad' (defected). chrysler customer service has been notified of every occasion that my vehicle has been serviced for this issue, and they have even escalated this matter to their corporate level technicians known as "star". i was told by customer service that star was unsure of the issue upon them being contacted in reference to this issue. i have yet to see an active recall on this part, but out of the year and 8 months that i have owned this truck, i have spent approximately a year and 4 months taking it to the dealership to be serviced for the shifter.
When i got in my car yesterday morning, my drivers seat was all the way back. i am the only one who drives it - it was odd that it was moved. nevertheless, i needed it to go back into position so i could drive it. the controls weren't really working so it took a bit to get it to move forward. i noted it to mention to the dealer when i take it in for an oil change this weekend. i drove to work, uneventfully. as i left work, and got into my jeep, the seat was fine. yay! i headed home. i was pouring rain. as i took a right, heard the car go "ding" saw the battery light come on and then the jeep turned off. i was driving and my car just turned off. this is the second time it has happened to me. the last time was january 2018 as i was entering i95. i turned left and heard the "ding" and off the jeep went. i had to coast to the side of the road. dangerous! i got towed to the local jeep dealer by aaa and left the car for diagnostic testing. the results, according to the dealer, was that my oil was low. the cherokee turns off the car to preserve the engine. even if you are driving the car on the highway. just. turns. off. first of all, that should not happen no matter what. the human in the car is what should be preserved, not the car itself. no car should ever just turn off. second of all, there was no indication on the dash or on the uconnect app that i was low on oil. and secondly, i was only a 300 miles over the mileage on the oil sticker on my windshield. i have had a lot of cars in my life and even the really old cars would indicate if the oil was low. this is a brand new car. why would i think the dealership would put mileage on the oil change sticker that was wrong? why would i even think that i would need to check my oil levels on a new car? and one more thing - jeeps are built tough. so why would the engine be that sensitive? so angry.
Service shifter light keep popping on and off.
My 2017 jeep wouldn't start on september 22,23 2018 while parked in driveway. it made a sound like the battery was dead and didn't have enough juice to start. after attempting to start multiple times and trying to turn off radio and headlight. it finally turned over, but after returning home from running errands, the following morning on the 23rd it wouldn't not start until i received a jump. there was a p code on the dashboard of car. ive also experience issue with it not wanting to excellerate even with excessive amount of pressure to the gas peddle.
While the key is in the ignition and you're pressing the break, when you are pressing the button to move the shift there is a clicking noise that comes from the ignition where the key is. it has been to the dealership for this 3 times because i've had a rental car 3 times. they ordered some part, replaced something and the noise was still there. that's when the technician says there's nothing he can do about it and that it's probably normal but when we got into a different jeep, same make and model the noise wasn't there so that's not true
While driving down the road my jeep would shut off without warning an drew then would not start back up took it to dealership they said nothing's wrong got it back the very next day while driving down the road all the shifter lights came on and the dashboard displayed service shifter obviously something is wrong with my vehicle
Service shifter warning lights come on...7 times in a month. first time was july 24th. first couple times was when i started the car, every other time it's been while i was driving.
Service shifter warning light coming on while driving or parked every other day. i have to pull over and shut motor down and restart and will come on again in a few days..
I purchased this vehicle in june of 2017. the service shifter error began popping up in november or december of the same year. it resets once the car is turned off and then restarted. i am currently approaching 20,000 miles and it seems with every new mile accrued that the light is coming on more often. after reading several online forums regarding this issue i realized that i am not alone. one persons account mentioned that their car was going 70 miles an hour when suddenly the car switched to park, causing a major accident and injury. this is very disturbing to me. although my car hasn't shifted while the code is on yet. i am worried that me or a loved one (or a stranger for that matter) will end up being hurt or in a serious accident.
While i was driving yesterday, my car died out on me. the car is only 6 months old. i was driving when the battery light began to flash and the car shut off on me. i had electrical power as the sterio was working, but the engine and power steering shut off without a check engine light. i was luckily able to coast into a parking lot and put the car in park. i 'shut it off' pulled the key fob from the ignition and tried to restart it. it had difficulty turning over and about after 39 seconds it turned over and started. then everything was normal. the car died out on me while going 45 miles per hour on a very busy street and i could barely turn the wheel to get into a parking lot. after this happened the car went back to normal and no warnings were displayed. i went to my uconnect app and it did not register the issue or say there was any issues on the car. if this happens on an expressway this can be deadly and it jeeds to be addressed!

Car was purchased in april 2017. twice the vehicle wouldn't start for no apparent reason. the car is parked on the street and wouldn't start early morning on a saturday and again late afternoon on this past tuesday. both occasions, i tried using the fob to unlock and perform a remote start, vehicle would not turn on. eventually, the car did start, but the reason is still undetermined
