Service shifter displays on dash when turning on the car. the gear shift lights all turned red, and there was no ability to switch gears. the vehicle was stationary at the time, and the shifter was reset turning the car on and off.
Serive shifter appears on the dash screen and all of the lights p, r, n, d, +/- light up on the shifter while moving, but i also had it happen once while the vehicle was idling. the car still drives, and if shut off and restarted the message and lights go away. this happens periodically. all of the gears still work, and the car recognizing which gear it is in.
At 43000 a message on the instrument display came on twice over 2 days. it said "service shifter". the dealer confirmed that the shift bezel and wiring harness had to be replaced because the original design was defective. the repair was not covered under the powertrain warranty. faulty operation of the gear selector could result in a vehicle being inoperable. that is a safety hazard. jeep should fix this..
While driving, the "service shifter" warning light comes on and all gear lights on shifter illuminate. stopping and restarting the engine temporarily fixes the warning. this has already been "fixed" once by the dealership where it was purchased at considerable cost to us. now it is happening again.
Jumping transmission. decelerate's while driving on freeway.
This vehicle seems to accelerate without me doing anything when in motion. shift services light comes on frequently. when you turn the car on the car accelerates or seems to stall. engine when the car is stationary. it makes an excessive noise when you accelerate in motion.
Service shifter alarm
The engine light and message service transmission came on while i was driving, however i could not drive over 40 miles an hour in traffic once this happened. i was told that it was a software update, but found that this was only a temporary fix. why would a software day cause this much of an issue and a very dangerous issue at that. why isn't there a permanent fix to this issue.
I turned on the car, let it warm up for about 3 minutes. put it in drive, i was on the road for about 5 minutes and all the lights on the dashboard turned on, the car stalled and the motor turned off. the transmission was stuck in drive and i had to forcefully find a way to move it to neutral or park to restart the car. when i checked the fluids on the vehicle everything was ok with the exception of the oil dip stick. all the oil had burned away and i was still about 2000 miles away from next oil change. all my oil changes were done at the jeep dealership where the car was purchased and we used synthetic oil to protect the engine. this is very dangerous that no warning signs are given to the drivers and that the car completely shuts off in the middle of the road. i tried to resolve this issue with the dealership but they said that because there is no recall for this common problem, they cannot resolve it. please help!
My 2016 jeep cherokee keeps getting service shifter lights. it happens when first starting the car, while driving and while shifting into park. turning the car off and on will sometimes clear the issue. sometimes it takes repeated tries to get it to clear. it has happened in traffic.when it happens the information display on the dash switches to "service shifter". no other info is displayed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after experiencing the failure. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
While in motion on a city street, 'check shifter' appeared on my dash and all lights on the shifter light up red.
There is a loud metallic knock when shifting gears from reverse to drive and vis versa. this is followed by a delay in acceleration which jolts the car unexpectedly that almost caused an accident.
Tamara recall in 2016 jeep cherokee latitude that i bought 8 months ago, a light came on the notice screen that said 'service shifter'. it has done this twice today already, it went away when i turned the car off but came back on the next time i started driving. i'm nervous this issue may leave me stranded. not a good light.
About every 5 wks my car says service shifter and all lights come on. nobody can get it to stay off. each time this happened i had just started my car and trying to put it in gear. different times of day some times it had already been driven and others it hadn't.
About a month ago, my daughter backed the car out of the driveway and the car would not shift back into drive. after turning the car off and back on, i was able to get it back into drive. it seemed fine after that. i thought it was just a freak thing. about two weeks ago, a warning light came on saying "service shifter". we took the car in to the dealership to have them fix it. they ordered parts but said it would take about 4 days for the parts to come in. when the parts finally came and were installed, the "service shifter" light was still on. i was then told they had just received a company wide memo about this problem and now needed to replace the entire shifter. i was told that the part would take weeks to maybe months before it would come in. they told me the car was safe to drive until the parts came in but not sure if they even know. i've looked this problem up online and seems to be a problem that many people are having.
While driving on an interstate at 70 mph the service transmission message appeared, emi lit & car went from gear to clutch causing loss of power & could not accelerate to maintain speed. after a few minutes car went back into gear & was able to regain proper speed. when i filled with gas the engine malfunction light went off. after driving approximately 400 miles the same thing happened on an interstate, fortunately in both instances, the traffic was not heavy & i was able to get in right lane. if there had been heavy traffic this could have caused serious accidents. the engine malfunction light stayed on so i took my jeep to a mechanic. the code says there is an electrical problem with the computer for the transmission, it gets too hot& the car goes out of gear to the clutch, then back in gear. i read online there are 37,000 recalls on this jeep problem, but none on mine. there needs to be one!
While driving at 65mph service transmission message appeared & emi lit. car lost power & i couldn't accelerate. speed dropped to about 40mph & had to pull off road. finally was able to go again & message went away. had car diagnosed & they say it's in transmission. this has happened about 30 more times. i can't afford to pay $6500 for transmission repairs & it is a hazard to drive! i'm scared i'm going to cause an accident. i've read that there's about 37,000 recalls for this issue with this make of jeep, but not on my jeep. this has happened after driving 10 miles, but may not happen for 100 miles. it has happened on busy highways where it's very difficult to get off the highway.
Service shifter shows up on display and all lights at shifter glow red
While driving the vehicle on streets and highways, the transmission would disengage from drive, causing the vehicle to stop moving, especially on steep grads.
My 2016 jeep with around 23,000 miles 'service shifter' error code has come on. it came on while i was driving it. there is no recall for this issue and there should be. just my googling it this morning brought up hundreds of consumers affected by this issue.
In may 2019, all gaer lights on the shifter p r n d l + - all turned red and the screen had a message "service shifter." it is not possible to see the speedometer when this happens. it has been happening more frequently. it is a hazard, especially when driving down the highway and the bells ring, your speedometer screen diasappears and service shifter appears. i brought this to the attention of a jeep dealer and was told, you can still drive when that occurs. this is a dangerous situation. it needs to be investigated by someone with authority soon. when looking online i discovered lots of people are having the same issue.
Several times upon starting the vehicle up in the 3 months since i have owned it, the display in the instrument cluster reads "service shifter" and all lights for the gear selector light up red. the vehicle will not go into gear until the engine is shut off and restarted.
I've had my jeep since october of 2016, it had 11,000 miles on it when i bought, and randomly since then, the service shifter warning comes on. it completely locks up my display, so i can't even see my speedometer. if i pull over and turn the vehicle off and back on,it will reset, sometimes coming on again in minutes, sometimes months.. i've had it in to service 3 times. never fixes it.. some dealers have never even heard of it.. some say it just needs an update. i should not have to take my jeep in for an "update" every other month.. every other car on the road is fine without an update. no one has been able to give me a good explanation as to what this really means, is it dangerous? no one can tell me anything. this has happened, driving on the interstate, driving through town, it's even happened when it's been parked and i first start it up.
While driving on the interstate i-20 my vehicle was in drive and all the lights on the gear shift came on (see photos attached) and my dashboard reflected 'service shifter' light came on and gear shift lights are all red,p,r,n,d on 4/18/2019. i panicked because i was out of state in augusta, ga but lives in madison, al. i was stressed and pulled over to google this to see if there were instructions to follow. according to the dealership in marietta, ga ' ed voyles' they never heard of such a complaint. how many complaints have to be done before this becomes a recall
Transmission service shifter light came on after starting the vehicle. turned it off and back on again and it went away. happened several times. had the shifter and wiring harness replaced once before. this would be the second time the shifter and harness would have to be replaced. first time happened at 17,330 miles. second time at 21,000 miles.
Takata recall: the transmission was acting up last month brought on by a computer flaw that was discover by chrysler. the car would stall after coming to a halt/slow down. based on the members of aamco, chrysler released a bulletin '21-032-18' that indicates a computer update that revealed that the 'tcm power circuit control. high.' this was not a driver/owner issue, this was a chrysler/jeep issue. after i returned from my tdy and having paid $185 for a computer update, i was looking reimbursement and was told that nothing could be done. it's disgusting how a loyal customer can be treated so poorly without having an issue resolved for something that the company caused.
Service shifter light comes on dash and all lights on shifter stay lit up red. once i turn off vehicle and turn back on it turns off but comes back on after a while of driving. i have not attempted to drive like this once the lights come on.
When car is put into neutral, the sport shifter mode is activated and occasionally when put into reverse, service shifter message appears on dash and all prnd lights appear lit. doesn't appear to affect driving but is worrisome. current mileage is 47,000
Vehicle is less than three years old. maintenance has been done on time. uses oil, thermostat has had to be replaced and service shifter light keeps coming on. spent three hours at the dealership to supposedly fix the shifter issue. one hour later the service shifter light came back on!
While driving on a city street, i was stopped at a stoplight. pressed on gas when light turned green and transmission light came on, service transmission message appeared on in-dash driver communication center. vehicle would not go into second gear. messages would not clear from instrument panel. i was able to pull vehicle into a parking lot. turned car off. after letting it set for 5 min, turned car back on messages still there. i wanted to see if the vehicle would change gears, so i drove it a little distance and it did change gears. i drove it to the dealership. was informed today, that they were able to verify the transmission error codes. current fix is a new transmission valve body. vehicle had exactly 48k miles on it when dropped off at dealership. i had previously complained to dealer about hard - jerking shifts and they just reassured me it was because of the 9-speed transmission optimizing its shifting.
While making a turn, the vehicle lost power in the brakes, accelerator and steering wheel. everything locked up while i was going upwards of 25mph. i was able to coast to the side of the road, but completely lost the ability to control my vehicle. the car would not function until i turned it off and tried to restart it a few times taking a couple of minutes. this happened once on the 14th of march and once on the 15th of march. i was told by the jeep dealership that they are aware of the issue and have told people to make sure to check their oil. i was told the dipstick does not reach the bottom of the oil pan and only goes down about halfway (3 of the 6 total quarts the pan holds). when the dipstick does not "feel" oil the entire car essentially shuts down and locks up in order to "protect the engine" causing the driver to lose all ability to control it. they might be protecting the engine from burning oil, but to lose functionality puts my life in danger. jeep/chrysler have had this reported before as i found numerous cases of the same story. however, they refuse to do anything about it. i could have been in a very serious accident if i was going faster than 27mph or if i was not in an area that i was able to coast to the side of the road. i was not told any of this information when i purchased the car
The transmission failed while driving 60mph on the highway. it would not accelerate so i had to pull over to the side of the road. i turned the car off for a few minutes and then restarted it. this seemed to reboot the system and i was able to drive home. i took the car to the dealer and was told it was a "glitch" and the vehicle appeared to be working properly to them so no repair was done. a few months later it happened again except turning it off and on only worked for a few miles before happening again. i took it back to the dealer and they said it was due to a software update. what kind of car shuts down on the highway due to a software update!!! this issue put my family in extremely dangerous situations and jeep refuses to own up to having a faulty transmission.
2016 jeep cherokee sport, check transmission message keeps coming on while driving. so far have taken it to the dealer twice where they said they fixed it by replacing the torque converter. both times the message comes back within 50 miles of use. once it is turned off the check engine light stays on but the check transmittion message goes away.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph and approaching a red light, the battery warning indicator illuminated, the transmission seized, and the vehicle lost acceleration. the contact coasted the vehicle into a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. after four attempts, the vehicle restarted. the vehicle was taken to yark chrysler jeep dodge (6019 central ave, toledo, oh 43615), but they could not duplicate the failure and recommended an oil change. the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,175.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the tires made a screeching noise without warning upon making turns. the contact took the vehicle to abernethy chrysler dodge jeep ram (1442 e main st, lincolnton, nc 28092, 704-732-1890) where it was diagnosed that the front half shaft was faulty. the contact was provided a quote for the repair cost. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 16v287000 (power train). the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 68,000.
While driving on a residential street, my 2016 jeep cherokee latitude with 45,196 miles displayed the "service shifter" message on the dashboard. the prnd shifter lights were all lit up red. pulled over, put the car in park, restarted the vehicle and the message did not appear. later in the day, the radio display stopped working. scheduled a service appointment with the dealership.
The service shifter message displays on the screen and you can't tell if the the is in dprn becuase all the lights are red. the car sometimes will not shift out of gear. or jerks when it finally does. this care hesitates while in motion and as well as when stationary and trying to move. this is very dangerous. i have taken this vehicle to the dealer who stated that the recall they had was only for a software update with the shifter but this issue should also be a recall with them covering the repairs. i have less than 50k miles there is no reason why i should have to cover the expense of replacing the shifter assembly becuase the shifter is not covered under the warranty they sell you.
Transmission recall. while driving on an interstate, 'service transmission' appears on dash, and vehicle ceases to accelerate. transmission essentially drops to first gear and will not accelerate beyond that point.
Our 2016 jeep cherokee (latitude 4wd) has been stalling after a cold start. the battery indicator flashes and then registers a message to place the car in p to shift into gear. i have been able to restart the car after waiting 30-60 sec, sometimes while in traffic. the vehicle was at the dealership on 1/14/19 and i was told that there wasn't any oil on the dipstick. the engine is possibly burning oil but there are no indicators or status updates when the system is checked. i was told by the dealership that they are aware of an engine issue with the 2016 jeep cherokee. an oil consumption test is needed before the engine can be replaced (if needed). oil consumption test initiated 1/14/19. chrysler/jeep is aware of this issue and has not issued a safety recall. negligence by chrysler for not responding to this significant defect and safety issue.
Transmison services
Soon after starting to drive in the a.m. on a residential road, "service shifter" message appeared and all red lights came on the prndl shift selector; cause unknown; reports of a recall online that have caused a celebrity fatality, but no recall on nhtsa using vin;
When driving i notice when i stop on the brake and gas both would not work. the dashboard icon of the battery illuminated, the notification sound played, and the car slowed to a stop. also, the notification center displayed "shift to park". i shifted into park, placed my hazard lights on, and waved the cars that were behind me to drive around. made the attempt to restart twice with no such luck. the third attempt saw the car turn back on successfully. ..*bf.. *tr
I've had a service shifter message appear numerous times and then disappear. when i would take it in to get looked at i was told that there was no record of that code being displayed in the car log/memory and that the service department at the delearship couldn't find anything wrong with it. upon doing research on this message i found that many other people have had this same problem and if left unchecked can cause the vechicle to shift into park while in motion causing loss of control and accidents. i have received this message while both stationary just when i turned the car on, and also while in motion on a road.
Transmission not working properly
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. when the vehicle was in park or drive, the gear failed to shift and a warning indicator illuminated for the shifting failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed by an authorized dealer; however, a warranty would be available within thirty days. the contact did not know if the vehicle would be repaired per the warranty. the shifter continued to function improperly. the vehicle was excluded from any power train recalls. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
When i was driving at highway, all the sudden service transmission light on and transmission meter went up to the highest point, car stopped by itself. beside steering, everything else stopped working. thank god, i was next to emergency line. i only got 30 second to get out high speed traffic road.
While driving and vehicle in motion under normal driving conditions 2016 jeep cherokee vehicle will accelerate by itself without warning and cause hazardous driving conditions and safety concerns. vehicles engine light will remain on and jeep dealership can not diagnose and properly fix vehicle. vehicle experiences unintended acceleration while driving causing major safety concerns.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while operating the vehicle, the message "service shifter" illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the gear shifter was faulty. the gear shifter was replaced, but the "service shifter" message continued to display. the vehicle later stalled several times while driving. the cause of the failure was not determined. thornton chrysler jeep (2980 cape corn rd, red line, pa) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000.
The rpm's on this transmission in this vehicle go up very high but the transmission does not shift into gear. the vehicle sputters and slows on the open road. the engine does run on all cylinders. the engine has no power. this creates a safety risk on a highway. also the differential locks up when you have to hit the brakes and three rear of the car locks up and skids left of center. party's of the suspension have broken for no apparent reason. the left rear control arm broke for no apparent reason. i have been informed by a jeep dealership that this vehicle is unsafe to drive. i have filed complaints with chrysler on three occasions informing them of the numerous issues with this vehicle. i was advised to get a diagnostic test done and they would work with me to buy this car back. i did as requested and now being informed i will probably have to go to arbitration. three times now when i applied the brakes hard on a highway the east locked up and the left rear of my car skidded and i had no control. i nearly hit a retaining wall. i have a vehicle that the dealership has deemed unsafe to drive.
