I was driving and the lights on the shift all turn red. i pulled over turned the vehicle off drove again and all the lights turn red again repeated the process and and it turned on again. called the dealer they never heard of the problem looked it up and said that the shift needs to be inspected but they said it is ok to drive.
On feb 6, 2020, i was getting ready for work when i noticed that my jeep had a message appear on the dash board regarding shift shifter. i was pulling out of my apartment complex when my car stopped out of no where my car stopped and the message appear while still on drive. when i looked over the shift shifter, the prnd were all lighten up in red. i has causing traffic and had to get my car towed.
Service shifter dashboard message and the p. r. n. d. light up red off and on, three times so far within a six month period what do we do? jeep dealer and headquarters maintains no complains have being filed the problem happens during car moving
The car dashboard keep saying service shifter. this happens after driving anytime on all roads and putting the car in park.
Service shifter message appeared in the center display and is lock in place, not being able to scroll through the menus any longer. next to the shifter all lights for shifter position are illuminated and you cannot see which gear the vehicle is in anymore from looking down at the shifter. this has happened multiple times mostly while in motion but has also happened while stationary. the message including all other indications can go away with a full shutdown.
Service shifter indicator comes on- solid red lights appear on the shifter in every gear. comes on every couple of days. cargurus has several people complaining about experiencing the same problem. dealerships seem to not really know what the real problem is, replacing engines, transmissions, shifters- only to have the problem come back for these folks. clearly, a recall is in order. i am concerned if i take mine in, i will have the same problem as the others, price gouged- with no real solution. here is the link for the feed of problems: https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68742_ds947921
About two months ago while driving the car chimed and the message "service shifter" appeared on the screen along with all lights next to shifter to light up red. the vehicle has to turned off and restarted to reset. now the same thing keeps happening. this never happened before the over the air update. extremely irritating and scary the first time it happened thank god i wasn't in an accident like other reports have noted. jeep needs to recall this issue and fix it!!!
Service shifter indicator illuminated on 2016 jeep cherokee.
Service shifter comes on and shifter prnd all red lights come on and you can not tell what gear the car is in. it came on once when you shut off the care it went away it sis this twice now it just stays lit. up in red.
When driving on a highway at 70 mph, "shifter service" light came on in the instrument panel and would not go off. i was a little scared as all the transmission lights came on (park, reverse, neutral drive) and i could not tell how fast i was going. since the car did not seem to have driving issues i continued the 20 miles to home. when we turned the car off the warning did not come back on when i restarted the vehicle. after checking this issue online i see that there are many people have had this same problem. and it seems that jeep is not sure what to do about it. jeep dealer told me it was caused by u1465-00 and p1c86-1d codes, and are going to replace shift bezel and harness. more than a few people online said the same problem came back after the harness was replaced.
I just purchased the jeep a month ago & it has 43,000 miles. when the jeep is in gear a "service shifter" message pops up on dash. once it pops up you can't see your miles per hour until you pull over, shut the jeep off & restart. i was pulled over & cited for my speed but i had nowhere to pull of the highway to. i feel like it is a huge safety issue. the message only pops up randomly every three or 4 days & everyone i call say they've never heard of this & it nothing comes up when hook up code reader.
Service shifter light came on as soon as i shifted into park, stayed on until i turned the car off, did not come back on for the next 20 miles.
Error message that states: "service shifter"on the dash board and all the lights on the gear shifter box light up
Service shifter screen comes on and check engine light.
While driving on a highway, my 2016 jeep cherokee suddenly shut off completely. this did not allow me to accelerate, and the car slowed down which i had to pull over on the highway. there was the engine light and the battery light shown on the display. after couple times of attempting to restart the vehicle, i was able to drive it fine to work. this was really dangerous especially with i had no engine problems previously to warn that such thing was going to happen.
All prnd indicator lights on the shifter unit illuminate at once, and stay lit. "service shifter" warning appears on the instrument cluster display. when "service shifter" warning is displayed, cannot be turned off and digital speedometer readings (or other information) are no longer displayed. prnd shifter indicator lights blink sporadically until warning finally displays. lights stay illuminated after warning appears. prnd lights and display warning appear while vehicle is parked/stationary as well as when vehicle is in motion. started sporadically, roughly 6 months ago (early 2019) and would typically go away if vehicle was turned off and re-started. these warnings now happen daily, every time i start the vehicle, and almost never go away. upon researching this concern online, it appears that this is a known issue that many have been experiencing since around 2012. most web inquires indicate that this may be related to a wiring harness? i took to the dealership for service and was told it would be $700 to replace the entire shifter, and that if i do not replace, i could find myself unable to put the vehicle in park. hoping that this is something that is being investigated and recalled so that i do not have to pay for something that is a recurring, known safety issue.
While driving my suv twice it decelerated and would not move i couldn't push the gas to make it go faster or anything. when i turned it of and then turned it back on it had trouble starting back up. i took it to my dealership and they said that it was 2 quarts low on oil. i just had an oil change 2 months ago and get the synthetic oil to improve my engines life, i'm not sure for an oil chnage until november 19. my dealership put oil in for me and said that this engine shutting down is a fail safe to protect the engine from being damaged. this experience has been very frightening as both times i was driving on major roadways. my dealership has advised me to come back in and get a oil change and they will seal my oil reservoir components and put a dye pack in and have me come back in after driving 1000 miles. after reading the reviews on this website it appears many others have the same issues which truly frightens me i bought my truck brand new and it on has 32500 miles on it, i hope that some major investigations occur before someone gets seriously hurt or worse.
Car has completely stalled and locked up to a point where the steering wheel cannot be moved, hazard lights will not turn on, cannot change the gear at all. had to have a flat bed tow because the wheels were locked, tow driver had to use dish soap to get the wheels to slide up the ramp. jeep dealership first replaced the battery, then replaced the bcm and it is still a solid brick. they have no idea what is wrong. this has cost me $600 so far without even a repair. my 17 year old daughter is driving this dangerous car. i have seen the forums and this is a common problem with this jeep, it needs a recall. as soon as we can get it running again, we will be trading it in. i can't have her in a death trap, it stalls without warning and we had to put the hood up to warn other drivers because the hazards wouldn't even turn on. this car only has 23000 miles on it, it should really not be doing this.
Service shifter message, all lights on shifter are lit up. manual shift doesnt work. new symptom, car didnt recognize car was in drive. message appeared to shift into p then desired gear. when ignition button pushed to turn off, car restarted on its own.
Service shifter light randomly appears on info screen indash and lights up shifter mount area. no rhyme or reason as to why it comes on, no one has been able to diagnose but seems to be a common problem when googled.
Vehicle's service shifter light remains on and all lights beside gears prnd remain on. occurs at any given time whether the vehicle is in motion or not.
Service shifter notification keeps popping up and you must stop vehicle and turn it off and open the door to reset it. apparently there is a plastic piece that goes bad and has to be replaced. this has happened a lot so why is there no recall?
I purchased a certified pre-owned jeep latitude. within two months the service shifter light came on and the entire console lit up red. this issue continued off and on until i took it for servicing. this issue showed up while in park in my driveway, when pulling out and then when i stopped at a gas station. it was fixed in minutes ???? but it appears this has been an ongoing issue never corrected by chrysler/ jeep
The problem started 7/23/2019. the jeep is stopping randomly at red lights and stop signs. it starts back up but the ac is on defrost and i have to put it back on cool. the first time it did this i read about some reviews that stated it could be because an oil change is needed. since it was time for an oil change, i did that. but the next day it did the same thing, randomly stopping. also changed a dirty air filter. scheduled a diagnostic test for 7/29/19 and will see if jeep can help with this problem.
On 2 separate occasions while in motion on a city street all of the gear shifts lights came on and where you see your mileage that screen read service shifter. this stayed visible until the car was turned off and restarted. the car also jerks while in motion and the brakes where supposed to be fixed last week from the dealership that i purchased the car from but its still feels like the brakes are grinding.
My 2016 jeep cherokee latitude has suddenly turned off twice in the middle of the road while driving. a "shift gear" light warning appears on the dashboard. both times it occured shortly while starting to drive home from work. therefore, occured within 10 minutes of starting the engine. the first time it occured within seconds after turning left at a light.
While in motion: 2016 jeep cherokee will randomly lose engine power during a right turn (on highway at high speed and at low speed on city street), steering locks up, decelerates automatically, and dash says to put vehicle into manual mode and select the desired gear. this is very dangerous and has almost caused an accident two times.
My 2016 jeep cherokee has been showing a service shifter on my screen and all of my lights are solid on my shifter when this happens. i also have to pull over and restart my car after this happens
I turned on the car, let it warm up for about 3 minutes. put it in drive, i was on the road for about 5 minutes and all the lights on the dashboard turned on, the car stalled and the motor turned off. the transmission was stuck in drive and i had to forcefully find a way to move it to neutral or park to restart the car. when i checked the fluids on the vehicle everything was ok with the exception of the oil dip stick. all the oil had burned away and i was still about 2000 miles away from next oil change. all my oil changes were done at the jeep dealership where the car was purchased and we used synthetic oil to protect the engine. this is very dangerous that no warning signs are given to the drivers and that the car completely shuts off in the middle of the road. i tried to resolve this issue with the dealership but they said that because there is no recall for this common problem, they cannot resolve it. please help!
Shifter service error message appeared in two occasions within the span of a month. first encounter, was a few days after taking the car off the dealership lot. i was entering the drive away and all of sudden, shifter service error message appeared and all the gear indicators flashed bright red. after the dealership,, i probably put less that 10 miles on it at this point. turned off the vehicle and restarted the ignition. put it in drive, this time while stationary and it appeared again. i didn't take a photo the first time, as i assumed it was a fluke. didn't happen anymore after that till today, may 17th. i started up the ignition and headed on my way off, within 5 mins of my ride, i heard a beep. looked at the dash and saw the service shifter message again so i drove off into a parking lot to check out the issue. i stopped and went into park. the red indicators were still apparent. i turned off the vehicle 5x and repeated turning on the ignition, put it in drive, service shifter error appears and going into park and turning off the vehicle all while stationary in the parking lot. after the 6th time, i took it slow and it didn't appear. since the first occurrence, i probably have only driven the jeep less than 100 miles.
While driving on an interstate at 70 mph the service transmission message appeared, emi lit & car went from gear to clutch causing loss of power & could not accelerate to maintain speed. after a few minutes car went back into gear & was able to regain proper speed. when i filled with gas the engine malfunction light went off. after driving approximately 400 miles the same thing happened on an interstate, fortunately in both instances, the traffic was not heavy & i was able to get in right lane. if there had been heavy traffic this could have caused serious accidents. the engine malfunction light stayed on so i took my jeep to a mechanic. the code says there is an electrical problem with the computer for the transmission, it gets too hot& the car goes out of gear to the clutch, then back in gear. i read online there are 37,000 recalls on this jeep problem, but none on mine. there needs to be one!
I bought it used and it had 1 recall that was not disclosed and now the service shifter light keeps coming on. i have read 100s of others have this problem with little to no permanent resolution.
I was on my way to work and two miles into my commute i noticed that a message appeared on my dash. it is ( service shifter) message. my shifter has red lights illuminated on all the selections in the shifter. i own a 2016 jeep cherokee 75th edition, with about 58,0000 miles. i believe a lot of folks are experiencing this issue, which could potentially be a hazard while driving.
Back up camera image is garbled. cannot see out the back
Service shifter light comes on while driving. must stop and shut down to reset.
Tamara recall...ever since i bought my jeep brannew the radio sometimes does not work, service shifter is coming up, also other things are coming up saying automatic shut down service..wheels are not straight, among other things. this should not be happening on a jeep that's 3 years old. now the dealership wants 99.00 to check it out plus whatever the problem is. i'm very disgusted because i love this car, took my anxiety away, but now i'm nervous to drive it period. i hate to trade it off for a toyota or honda. please help me on this. is it dangerous to ride with service shifter lit? this should be a free recall to see what's happening. no one has answers. i've seenin the internet many people having the same problem. please help
Please note the photos are not from my jeep, they are from another person having the same issue. dash displays 'service shifter' and all lights one shifter illuminate. i was driving when this happened (twice on different occasions). i pulled over shifter to park, shut the jeep off and turned it back on and it went away for a few miles and came back on. this happened either the end of march or beginning of april 2019 during slushy wet road conditions. i have not seen it since those two days. date entered below is an estimate. i wasn't aware this site existed until a friend tagged me in a facebook post depicting an accident caused from the same issue in a 2017 jeep cherokee latitude.
Service shifter light comes on dash and all lights on shifter stay lit up red. once i turn off vehicle and turn back on it turns off but comes back on after a while of driving. i have not attempted to drive like this once the lights come on.
My vehicle jeep was in motion on the interstate when my service transmission light came on and i almost caused a major accident when my jeep slowed way down. when i accelerated it would hardly move. mind you i was on the interstate!! very scary experience. this is not the first experience i have had with my jeep while in motion on highway it jumps bucks and revs up on its own when it was doing that i had to take it to be hooked up to tester to see why my battery light came on? had to replace coil pack #4 and i did it again 6 months down the road and had to replace coil pack #2. the check engine light stays on. my jeep only has 59064 miles. i am very scared terrified and nervous driving me jeep.
This issues has happened twice once i was at an intersection and the second time i was on the freeway. i am driving with no issues and then all of a sudden the car loses speed. i will go from 70-0mph with in seconds, all the lights will come on on my dash board and i am unable to speed up or even steer out of the way. the second time this happened to me i was in the fast lane on the freeway with my daughter,no cars behind me because i would have been hit with out a question. it sounded as if the car shut down with out actually turning off. i had the car towed to the dealer where they had no explanation for me both times this happened. as soon as they would connect it to diagnose they said the codes would clear and the car was working. both times this has happened and now i am scared every time i drive. now the stereo will not turn on. the screen is on but will not move from the jeep sigh it will flicker on and off but not ever move from there.
The power lift gate has failed to lift on several occasions. once, the lift gate actually fell unexpectedly, hitting me in the head! it seems to struggle to lift on most attempts.
My jeep cherokee limited 2016's engine will shut off mid drive. this has happened to me three times while on the road for the past 4 months or so. i fear for my safety and that of my family and friends or whomever may be with me in my vehicle when this happens. the issue begins with the dash starting to flicker, the ac and radio will shut off, any actively enabled functions will shut off/disable (lane sense, cruise control, auto start/stop), two times out of the three, the vehicle engine shuts off seconds after, causing the greatest risk to safety since the vehicle is essentially cruising with no power whatsoever at an average of 70mph (mostly drive on freeways/highways), forcing me to pull over on the side of the road/shoulder in order to break to a full stop, place the vehicle on park and then restart the vehicle in order to get back on the road. i believe jeep had issued a recall for this exact issue if i'm not mistaken (safety recall u63). i have taken my jeep to a local dealership to get this issue fixed. i received the assessment from the dealership saying that the recall issue was fixed. a week after i went to the dealership the issue happened again, the check engine light came on but turned off after so by the time i took it to the dealership again, they "couldn't help me" since the check engine light was not on at the time. i also did not have a way to prove that this issue was happening still to my vehicle so i left disappointed and sure it would happen again at some point. as of today 28 march 2019 the issue happened again yesterday on the way to work around 0836am, luckily i was able to record a video of it as it was happening that i would be happy to share, the vehicle did not shut off during the video. i bought this vehicle new, in 2016, from a dealership in wa state.
Randomly..... while driving, a warning pops up on the dashboard saying "service shifter" and all the lights on the gear shift panel turn red. the lights stay red & the warning stays on the dash & i am unable to see my speed limit or any other vehicle details. this stays on until i park & turn my vehicle off. this happens daily at random moments, whether the vehicle is parked or moving, no matter the speed being traveled, & no matter the location. it is always random.
Tcm modular fails in the sealed 9 speed transmission in 8 gear after comming of an exit ramp engine life came on mashes on the gas to go thru the intersection no power stuck in 8 gear would not down shift .. light turns green and on coming traffic has to stop and allow me to get true very slowly... horns blowing and cars swirling around me... very dangerous to have this happen in traffic this has happened several times
Shortly after i get gas the vehicle will go from drive to idle and a warning message will pop up that says i need to shift to park. this has happened while waiting to take a left at lights and sometimes as soon as i go to pull out of the gas station.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph and approaching a red light, the battery warning indicator illuminated, the transmission seized, and the vehicle lost acceleration. the contact coasted the vehicle into a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. after four attempts, the vehicle restarted. the vehicle was taken to yark chrysler jeep dodge (6019 central ave, toledo, oh 43615), but they could not duplicate the failure and recommended an oil change. the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,175.
Stalls for no reason emergency break turns on by itself won't accelerate while originally in motion on freeway turns off while turning electric stability control icons going bizerk
Three days after buying this jeep cherokee limited i was sitting in my driveway with the car in park running when i started to smell something burning, the cabin filled with smoke to the point that i called 911 and dispatched my local fire department, they could not determine the location of the smoke, i was able to drive it to the dealership with all windows down in 18 degree weather, the dealer found "burn marks" on the cabin air filter and all they did was to remove the cabin air filter and that was it? car make me feel unsafe as no repair or diagnostic of burning or smoke has been done. car lost power with the a/c running last week while at the car wash, i had to turn off the a/c to get it up to speed. also while sitting idling at mcdonalds pickup window a strong smell of gasoline was detected by the lady serving my meal, my girlfriend and others in line waiting, took it to the dealer and of course they found "nothing". going to get rid of this thing before it catches fire.
4x4 unavailable service required message came on and stayed on when i started it. it was parked for around 4 hours and was stationary. took it to dealership after a day and a half was told a wire had rotted and broke.
2016 jeep kl trailhawk (v6) will randomly have no electricity/power at all. not even to unlock doors or for the dome lights to come on. this is after the vehicle sits overnight, for 10 to 12 hours. i have to use the key to unlock the vehicle. i have to jump start it and it will run fine for days until it happens again. i have experienced this issue 5 times in the past 4 weeks. the battery is new. replaced 12/18, and has been tested successfully by 3 different shops along with the jeep's charging system passing all tests... all cables/ connectors are tight and clean. i never know when it will start, or not.
