We have classified the 2 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
I was driving down the freeway when another driver alerted me there was a small fire coming from under my car. i pulled over into an empty lot and when i looked under the car i saw flames from under the vehicle. i stepped back and within minutes the entire front engine was consumed with flames.
Liftgate operates intermittently. it will get to the point if it opens then it will not close and latch. the vehicle was stationary in park didn't matter if the engine was on or off.
Entering hwy 45 mph . hood latch lets's go and hood flys up and crashes the windshield and dents the roof. safety latch didn't hold it like it should no the oil had not just been checked or changed.
Liftgate will not stay up when opened. vehicle was parked, and the ignition was off. i opened the liftgate to get items out of back of vehicle, and it closed, hitting me in the back. tried to open once more, and it closed again.

Hatch door randomly fails to latch when closing. recycle of start/lock/park/engage does not change anything. can manually close hatch but will not lock/engage. hatch is electric, pocket remote, button on door and button on dash will not recycle the lock to engage. vehicle was stationary at parking lot, occurred after loading and then trying to close door with remote.
Command view dual-pane panoramic sunroof. is extremely noisy when driving. was reaffixed or reinstalled by dealership and now noisier than before. faulty air bag was replaced at same time as horn was not working also ??
The jeep is only 2 years old and the seams for the driver's side door are not sealed all the way according to a jeep dealer service diagnostic. this is causing water to leak on to my floor and under the carpet, soaking it with a strong potential for mold/mildew. this has to be a defect because there is no way wear and tear is the cause. i have owned the car for one year.
While flat-towing our jeep cherokee behind our motorhome down a highway at 60mph, we went over a minor bump in the road, and the jeep started to violently wobble/shake (visible in rear camera of the rv) which was shaking/torquing the entire rv back and forth uncontrollably. we had to slow & come to a complete stop in the middle of the highway in order for the wobbling to stop. we immediately pulled over to shoulder of highway, to find the corner of the bumper ripped off, and the tow anchor bent sideways (from the whipping action of the jeep). we unhooked the jeep (no longer towable) and drove off the highway and directly to a jeep dealer. the jeep dealer assessed the damage from the wobble (torn front bumper, bent tow connector, and cracked front sub frame). we researched online and found this wobble to be a known issue to jeep; certain model years (2014-2015 jeep cherokees) have this issue when being flat-towed; apparently sometimes when going over a bump, the the flat-towed vehicle doesn't consistently track in line with the motorhome, due to lack of power to the jeep's electronic power steering system. fca released a statement saying they will 'provide a complimentary jumper wire harness and switch to ensure the vehicle's eps system has power to function while it is being flat-towed. these components have been engineered and validated by fca us llc and will be made available to all customers through mopar, as early as january 29. in addition, all cherokee owners will be contacted directly by fca us and provided with updated instructions for flat-towing. these instructions supersede all previous instructions. also, the vehicle's online owners manual will be updated.' we never received that notification & therefore didn't have this proper part to prevent this wobble. now jeep is refusing to help pay for the damage incurred to our vehicle because of this issue.
Traveling on highway i 94 at 70mph 5pm jan 10th, 2018, came into contact with vehicle while merging into center lane. his car forces mine into a spin, i crashed head on into the concrete barrier/wall separating the east and west bound lanes. none of the airbags in the entire vehicle deployed. neither the driver, passenger or side curtain airbags deployed. i survived but had two breaks in the sternal chest plate, a fractured right rib and broken left wrist requiring surgery resulting in screws and plates installed. medical bills over $80k i was wearing my seatbelt the entire time. that day the weather was clear and approx 40-45 degrees. through the dealer, i contacted the manufacturers customer service which directed me to their forensic team so they could obtain the black box in the vehicle and access to the car. i have serious concerns regarding not only my safety but others that own the same make and model. i am 73 years old and everyone from the ambulance driver to the state trooper that was on the scene of the accident said that i have a lawsuit here. i do not want to file suit. i don't have the time or the inclination to go that direction but i feel that the manufacturer owes me and the other customers something should they find themselves in my position. the manufacturers representative was not very helpful and i feel that i am getting the brush off and they have not returned my calls. i am hesitant to be a complainer. i hope that jeep/chrysler address this safety issue for me as well as others that may have the same concerns. *tt *js
Jan 7 my son had head on crash with dodge hemi truck. the truck was totaled and car was 10 grand in damage, my car airbags did not deploy trooper and other person in crash was shocked. auto body shop instructed me to contact chrysler, and they came said normal the trans sensor has been major issue now i am worried this sensor is defective also and no one will listen. i actually typed a longer description 2 other times and your site deleted it if this goes thru i will type the details again *bf *tr
Dealer accepted an appointment for the recall repair but did not complete the recall repair. dealer claimed that jeep corporate would not allow the dealer to maintain an inventory of required parts, in this case a liftgate module. thus i am required to return to the dealer for a second appointment to have the recall repair finished. i think this is unreasonable. service manager explained that this is jeep policy. he is not permitted to order liftgate modules in advance so as to have an inventory. he explained that he is required to order them for each repair, thus requiring the customer to return for a second time to have the repair finished.
The rear power lift gate will no latch to the locked position and it will not lift. 2016 i had the fca recall r67 repaired. june 1, 2017 i experienced my first issue with the power lift gate and the dealership cleaned g907 ground strap. august 23, 2017 i'm again experiencing the same issue. i believe this is a serious safety issue because the rear lift gate could be opened at anytime during vehicle movement and during a traffic collision.
My son and i were in front and side impact crash with another vehicle on 4/24/17 with significant damage but no airbags deployed in our vehicle. attached are a few photos of both vehicles for reference. we were driving a 2015 jeep cherokee and were hit by a driver who hydroplaned in a 2011 hyundai elantra. the reporting officer estimated my speed at impact was 40 mph. airbags deployed in the other vehicle but not in ours. considering the damage to the vehicle, force of impact and estimated travel speed at impact, i feel the jeep airbags failed from a safety standpoint and would like to know how to go about investigating this further with jeep. an accident report is available but did not upload due to the sensitive information contained within (vin #'s, names, insurance policy numbers, etc); however, the report can be provided under separate cover if needed.

While driving down the road at 50mph with my trailhawk edition jeep, the roof rail bar ripped out of the roof of the car sending my kayak rack and 35 pound kayak down the center of the road. chrysler/jeep states they are not led to believe the incident was a manufacturing responsibility. lives could have been lost. the jeep dealership tried to tell me they found documentation that the rails are not to be used unless they have a manufactured crossbar with a maximum weight of 150 pounds. my kayak rack has a crossbar and the weight of the rack was maybe 15 pounds and the kayak itself was 35 pounds. there was no where in my owners manual that states i cannot use my roof rails. only a safety statement saying nothing should be screwed into my roof for airbag and safety purposes. even with manufactured crossbars they wouldn't be able to screw into my roof so they would not have held my roof rail into the roof. the roof is very thin and there are clear holes where the bar completely ripped out of the roof. if there was a vehicle behind me people could have been very hurt. chrysler sent an investigator to do a report on the vehicle they sent me a one paragraph letter stating they decline any assistance associated with this incident. safety concerns for other people on the road and other jeep owners was not addressed. at the time of the incident i was on a back road going 50 miles an hour with no wind gusts or any reason for this to occur. this incident occurred on august 7 and even though it was reported to the dealership on the eighth i have received no help. i am attaching photos of the kayak safely mounted on the kayak rack the day before the incident and the damages to my car.
Driving along on a rural road, no traffic around me. coming down a hill and out of a curve, hit a slight bump in the road when sunroof glass exploded, sounding like a shot gun going off inside the car. glass came down alll over the passenger compartment. sunroof is visibly pushed up and out of the roof with no impacts from exterior. dealer is telling me this is not covered under the factory warranty despite the fact that there was no external force which caused the damage. they say that pressure can build up inside the car when the a/c is running and this can sometimes happen, which seems indicative of a known issue. i looked all through the owner's manual and find no reference to the possibility this could occur with normal use of the a/c.
Check engine light came on related to thermostat liftgate has been leaking since the beginning transmission is slipping or dragging constantly
Car has all sorts of transmission problems from shifting clunking slamming into gears car won't recognize that it's in park and won't turn off liftgate opens and closes by itself recently opened and smashed my garage door in the liftgate radio won't work gps says i'm in wyoming
The power liftgate frequently does not close, and sometimes it will not open. when it fails, the tailgate can come open while we are driving. we have taken it to the dealer several times. they told us to pull the fuse that operates the liftgate and that will reset it. the jeep was under warranty when we started having this problem. it has happened many times and now the car has 60000 miles.
I had just left the dealership for a warranty issue and was 2 miles from the dealership when the hood flew open blinding me i called the dealership and they asked that i call chrysler as the safety latch should have held chrysler sent an investigator out who in front of myself the dealerships service manager and another person told us that the safety latch was improperly aligned and did not hold i askesked the investigation deprtment for a copy of the investigation report and they told me no it was there property and would not supply me with a copy.i was on hwy 195 in wa. state southbound out of pullman.

Was traveling to work and there was a car ahead of me. this person had out of state plates and was not paying attention, speeding up and then slowing down several time. the person behind me and passed both of us. in fact he was the one the i ran into. then when i approached the next town to get on the 4 lane, there is a turn off that everyone uses to get to the school. i don't remember what happened to the green out of state car, i think he did a quick left turn in front of me, and then i hit the guy that passed both of us. he was stopped waiting for the car ahead of him to turn. needless to say, i was charged with failing to stop in an assured clear distance. the sun was bright and i seen no brake or turn signals. the front end of my 10 day old vehicle sustained over 8600 dollars in damage so far. my concern is why did the air bags not go off at 50 mph when i hit the back of his 2012 buick? i was taken by ambulance to be checked out as the seat belt hurt my chest and possible broken finger. later that night i returned to the hospital for a head ct and chest xray for dizziness and headaches. i still have head aches when i bend over and will most likely consult my doctor for possible whip lash. the other driver was not hurt, but was told his vehicle was going to be total loss. we just bought this and now i am concerned about safety! both the adjustor and i were concerned why they didn't deploy. the whole front end of my vehicle is destroyed. from bumper back to radiator, which was destroyed.

Bought 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk 2/2015 brand new. started having creaking coming from sunroof area about 2 months in. dealer states no fix for it. took vehicle in for oil change at 9000 miles. dealer performed 3 updates at that time. received car back and auto start/stop light came on and went off several times. also noted hard shifting and acceleration issues at that time. took to dealer and they did "software updates." got vehicle back "fixed," drove it 3 blocks and lights came on again with same acceleration and shifting issues. straight back to dealer. ended up getting entirely new transmission at 9000 miles! picked up "fixed" vehicle again and noted severe jerking with slow stops and sluggish acceleration. back to dealer for yet another software updated. have back again now. can now feel vehicle when it is idling. feels like it has a mild shake or shudder. also having occasional problems with sluggish acceleration particularly when turning. also continue to have loud creaking from sunroof which is just getting worse. scared to drive vehicle as am afraid it simply won't accelerate one of these times. heaven forbid it is in rush hour traffic with a left turn. vehicle is not reliable, have absolutely no faith in it.

I pulled into a parking spot located inside a concrete parking structure. while conversing with others in the car, the engine auto shutoff engaged. i thought the care was off so i began to exit the car. when i let off the break the car lurched forward into the wall causing damage to the right headlight and bumper. my complaint is the auto shutoff feature on my jeep should be default to the off position and turned on by the operator. i have had numerous incidences where i almost collided with the car in front of me when i am at a stop light behind other vehicles or in parking lots. the vehicle will shutoff automatically and when i let off the brake, or the car is stopped for a period of time, the car starts and moves forward without applying the throttle because you are in drive. this causes you to react to avoid hitting something in front of you. i would prefer to engage this feature manually if i need it.

We were driving down interstate, going speed limit of 70 mph, when all of sudden heard a loud pop, sounded much like gunshot. could hear the air flow. once we got stopped on side of road, found the sunroof completely shattered. when we called dealership was told we would have to claim on our insurance. chrysler dealership said wasn't their fault, and since it was not windshield had to file against insurance claim as accident. even though dealership could not find anything that had impacted the glass in sunroof cavity, nothing but glass. service manager stated " maybe a ball or pine cone hit it" i asked going down interstate at 70 mph? they refused to even investigate. so i had to file a claim against insurance and pay my deductible. seriously the sunroof just shattered. glass went everywhere. had to replace the interior of the sunroof also!

Vehicle is equipped with the collison avoidance system. on the date of the accident the system failed to work. the vehicle was travelling westbound between 5-7 mph at a high school parking lot, the collison avoidance system was on, the front of the vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle. the system did not deploy. the vehicle suffered 3000.00 dollars of frontend damage. after vehicle was repaired, owner of vehicle conducted tests of the collison avoidance system at 5, 10, and 15 mph with large objects (boxes) placed at minimum of 100 feet from the vehicle. the system never deployed and the objects were struck. at the time of the test jeep informed owner all systems, including were fixed and fully functional. on three separate occasions between the following dates june 26-july 05, 2015 the collison avoidance system activated with no objectives in front of the vehicle at distance greater than 200 feet. the vehicle was travelling on two occasions on city streets at approximately 20 mph and once on the highway at 55 mph.
Shortly before reaching her destination, the driver of our vehicle smelled an odor, but couldn't determine what it was. she continued onto her destination as it was just up the street. she parked the vehicle and was preparing to exit. before she could exit the vehicle, a witness saw smoke coming from under the vehicle. she quickly exited the vehicle and saw the smoke. the smoke then turned black and she saw flames. the vehicle then burst into flames. *tr
A car turned left as i was going straight and struck me at the front left side of the vehicle. the impact broke my tired completely off the vehicle smashing both the front and the entire side of my car with enough damage for me to have to kick my door multiple times in order to exit the car. after the first impact i lost control since a tire was missing and the vehicle hit a semi truck head on. no air bags deployed. car is totaled and has frame damage. i contacted jeep and they have since done an investigation and told me i was not going fast enough for air bags to deploy and are now not returning my calls. when the investigator called me after he inspected the vehicle he was shocked that i said the car was totaled. the car was brand new i had it for 15 days. there was a recall performed on the air bags the day before and when reviewing the receipt showed that they worked on the car for less than 15 mins but had my car for 6 hours? stating the recall was previously performed even though when i brought my car in to have a security system installed few days prior they said the recall needed to be performed and i set the appointment up. there is no way i was not going fast enough to have my safety features work in my brand new vehicle but i was going fast enough for my axle to snap and my tire to become disconnected from the vehicle. jeep will not return my calls so i must take further action. please assist me and take this seriously no one should feel unsafe in their vehicles.
Interior door handles on this jeep are faulty and break with only normal use. i called jeep and they said $400 a door panel plus labor and they can't just fix door handle they said whole panel has to be replaced. the two in front are completely broke and back two have cracks. i went online with this issue and found out there are thousands of others like me in this situation. because of this cost in repairs i feel like jeep has put me in a unsafe situation for my family. the jeep is a sport limited and is flawless in condition, except for these door handles. a recall needs to be made before someone gets stuck in there jeep during an accident and can't get out because of a broken door handle. because of all the forums on this issue my family and i are driving are other vehicle as much as possible until i can figure out how to get this problem fixed. i am hoping i do not have to sell this rig because of broken door handles , but with a baby in back i am not feeling like jeep is looking out for the true safety of there customers at this point in time. *tr
