When slowing down to yield or a roll the vehicle experiences delayed shifting resulting in no acceleration for 2-3 seconds followed by a very hard shift resulting in wheel spin which can leave the vehicle immobile in the road for another 3 seconds. according to jeep service and corporate this is "normal" and don't intend to address this issue.
Vehicle cuts off in the middle of driving on city streets and highway, flashes multiple indicators on dashboard. truck has cut off while waiting to turn while in middle of a four-lane highway. check engine light goes off and on. hesitation and acceleration issues. when pressing on accelerator truck doesn't go as if stuck in gear then finally lurches forward unexpectedly. very jerky during gear changes similar to driving a stick shift. taken to dealership where purchased and was told to buy new battery but the same problems continue to happen. diagnostics at dealership gave no indication as to how these safety issues can be resolved.
Fuel level sencor circuit range/performance is not correct. fuel level does not go down until the vehicle is at 1/3 of gas.
Engine dies while driving down the road & after 10-15 minutes vehicle will start. this has happened numerous times & each time i have brought it back to normandin jeep in san jose, ca. of course it is running each time when i get to the dealership & i always get the same story. low oil or oil pressure. i currently have less than 40,000 miles on the jeep & my first incident began with 15,000 miles ......... then again & again & again. i live in silicon valley & have a one year old son. the freeways are busy and this has become a dangerous situation. according to my online research ........ this is an inherent problem with the jeep cherokee ..........but ........ the dealership does not want to admit this. on my last visit about a month ago (less than 40,000 on odometer) they (normandin) told me the problem was with the oil pressure sending unit & this would not be covered under warranty ..........even though this issue began a couple years ago. service manager said that because this has been an ongoing problem .......... he would replace the unit and charge me only $100. with a job & a one year old child ..... i certainly did not have the time to argue. they replaced the unit & filled my jeep with oil and i left the dealership. well ............ my jeep just stranded me again . same problem & i keep calling the dealership (for the past 5 days) and the service manager has not returned my call. i simply do not have the time for this. plus i am scared to be on the road to my work with my young son in the back seat (i drop him off at day care). i write the nhtsa because i'm aware that there are so many people who have experienced this issue. only difference is that perhaps their local jeep dealer repairs the problem ............ whether it be with a new engine or whatever. can you please help ?
While in motion, the vehicle shuts off without warning. a message on the dash says put the car in park to start. the car consumes large amounts of synthetic oil, which should last up to 6 months but only lasts between 700-1000 miles per quart. the oil light does not come on indicating that the oil is low. it flashes across the screen too fast for the driver to see the warning. when the oil is low, the car begins to shut itself off while in motion. this has happened while driving at both high and low rates of speed on city streets and a highway during rush our traffic, nearly causing a collision with vehicles behind me.
When stopped at a red light and i move my foot from the break to gas the car completely shuts off - the screens go black and the engine stalls. 2 weeks later the same thing happened when pulling in to a parking garage moving my foot from the break to the gas. the lights flashed and then the a message comes on the dash saying to shift the car in to park. i have to shift it in to park and turn the car off completely and then back turn it back on.
While driving in a 50 mph zone on a major roadway in the town i reside in my vehicle decided it no longer want to go. even with my foot on the gas pedal i could see the needle for revs moving when i pushed the pedal, but the car wouldn't move. i took my foot off the gas and tried the pedal again. same result the car would rev but not go aside from a stuttering /light jerking, almost as if it didn't want to change gears. i have had rough shifts from the day we drove this off the lot. i was told time and time again that it was part of the break in period and there were no codes spitting out until this past summer where i got the service shifter problem a second time that was accompanied with service 4 wheel drive. i never have used this vehicle off road and maybe twice for virginia snow. i took it to the dealership and there was a recall, which they have fixed. but now we are back to the same symptoms only now the vehicle wants to stop forward motion while driving. it is at the dealership and they are saying it was a wiring issue. this vehicle is not safe. how many people need to be in this vehicle before an accident happens. luckily for me i was the only car on that section of the road but if i wasn't i would have been rear ended especially during rush hour.
While pulling out of parking lot vehicle started to stall , had to pump gas pedal. this caused the vehicle to lurch forward with a sputtering effect. thought it might stall out. this has happened a few times, also when i turn vehicle off it will not start and there is no electrical operation at all. i've found i must remove key from ignition before it will restart. this instances happen at random
While driving at full speed on i-10 west, my jeep cherokee came to a full stop forcing drivers to steer around me so as not to rear end me. it's done this 5 times since suaturday the 18th of february. it says the vehicle must be in park before releasing the brake.
Vehicle stalled during regular operation, for no apparent reason. vehicle was in motion and stalled. power steering was lost.
Accelerates with application of brake while in motion turning. vehicle accelerates on its own accord, while in motion. stalled while moving forward in traffic. forward lunging. motor runs very rough. transmission shifts roughly. manual shift does not allow for manual shifting. mileage 16/18 city 22/24 highway which is below ad limits of up to 30mpg. this was a major purchasing point for us. motor whines on passenger side. smell burning anti-freeze. a/c blows only hot air. floor fan on passenger side and rear seat fan barely operate or are non-functional. driver and passenger seats along with visors threads falling apart (seats to be replaced if they ever come in, it has been three (3) months waiting for parts). seal above rear hatch falling off - replaced and fell off again. radio has very poor reception. no cd or dvd player. inside of jeep trailhawk sounds like a city bus - everything sounds loose - this developed after the entire vehicle had been taken apart for numerous repairs. this vehicle is one lunge away from seriously injuring or worse, one or more parties.
When i switch gear the car jerks very hard when putting it in reverse. it burns gas very fast also the check engine light appears often i have got it check numerous of times they tell me my thermostat may need replaced. but the next day the check engine light will go off. the truck doesn't over heat, it just reads the thermostat may need replaced this been happening since the second month i purchased the vehicle.
When you let off the gas it speeds up and takes a little time to get it to go slower!
I was driving to the freeway about 60 - 70 mph and the car did not want to speed up, the gas pedal even though pushed pretty hard did not want to respond therefore i had to stop in the middle of the 10 freeway. after turning of the car, and turning of the eco mode (car turning off at intersections or in traffic jams) and continued driving. however, during the eco mode off, the stalls heavily during gear switch, most notably in the beginning ones for speeds up to 35 mph. i made it safely home. today, may 23rd, the car died on me twice during intersections when stopped and eco mode turned on. eventually i had to return home and not continue driving it. the car has barely 1800 miles and i do not use it for off-roading, just for regular commute. please advise what can i do yet the freeway incident really made me affraid of driving it at higher speeds and in general traffic.
Vehicle began shifting hard, and accelerating when brakes applied. lunges forward gaining speed while brakes engaged. no services engine lights at that times. taken to dealer for service. told by service man that it had 2 recalls for updates to transmission computer. never notified about recalls or can't find recalls regarding transmission on their website. updates applied today and was picked up. drove approximately 10 miles toward home when it lunged hard, alarms sounded and service lights turned on. taken directly back to dealer and awaiting their response. other non safety related issues include driver side running light malfunction, smart screen audio/climate control malfunctions.
I was moving very slowly in the second from right lane on route 287 in new jersey. in my attempt to change into the far right lane to be in my exit lane i accelerated heavily. the engine surged and made noise appropriate for the situation but did not actually engage in moving the vehicle for approximately 1-3 seconds. this could have caused a serious accident. jeep dealership has been advised. thank you.
While driving at low speed, making a right turn and accelerating into traffic, the whole car shakes/wobbles from side to side. almost frighteningly severe at times. dealer claims they cannot reproduce. sometimes get this shake while accelerating gently in straight line, usually always when in second gear. they continue to produce these jeeps every day, many will have this defect. there are bulletins out there, but nobody really has claimed the issue is fixed. unacceptable for a modern, new designed car. feels like a safety risk, but dealer refuses to help. shouldn't i feel safe driving my new car?
While in motion; when removing foot from accellerator to coast or brake, but before applying brake, vehicle bolts forward and accelerates. this could be a hazzard in ice or snow or close traffic. it happens all the time. noted to dealer and they stated its a known issue nothing they can do! happens all the time but esp on downhill; google and lots of complaints!
When reducing speed once at about 35mph the vehicle wants to accelerate. vehicle was in the shop from jan. 20th 2015 feb. 6th 2015. dealership replaced transmission and fixed the problem. i was not able to list the dates up top so i will list everything here. april 29th 2015 to april 30th 2015 vehicle had a recall. recall #r05. july 13th - july 28th had a problem with gas. everytime i would get gas within 20 miles it would drop a quarter of a tank. dealership replaced fuel pump and tested it. also another recall. recall #r40. june 1st - june 2nd i advised the dealership vehicle goes through a quarter tank of gas within 20 miles. they looked at it and couldn't find a problem. also on this date they performed a flash update for powertrain control module. on july 31st my fiancee came to pick me up at 3pm after work and i got a call from her stating the vehicle stopped running. she had our newborn baby along side of the road in 90 degree weather waiting for a family member to pick her up. i got a ride to our broken down vehicle and called a tow truck. tow truck came and took us to dealership. i waited for the results and they had no idea why it had died so they gave me a rental until the next day. august 1st recieved call from dealership saying it was a faulty fuel pump they had installed just a few days before. my vehicle was in service for this from july 31st - august 4th. the problems add up now i have another recall for the power liftgate control module, recall #r27 as i cannot get this recall fixed yet because i was told by dealership they havent started manufacturing the parts yet. lastly, last week i went to start vehicle and it would not start. took a few times and had to give it gas for it to start. today sept. 7th 2015 vehicle would not start. had to get it jumped and going to call dealership tomorrow to get this checked out.
I have had the vehicle in several times for check engine light. i has been on for the entire time i have had it. they have said it was intake manifold bolts loose and several program updates. this last time they said it was the fuel causing the problem. i have used 5 different fuels and the light stays on. there has been several problems with engine surging when i put it in reverse and at a stop light.
The jeep is bad and exactly engine, electrical, fuel propulsion system, and ather things,
