Fuel gauge failure which could cause a problem if in heavy traffic. *tr
Malfunctioning fuel gauge. began as gauge never reading below half tank, and then escalated to continuous full reading. *tr
The fuel gauge measured more than 1/2 a tank and the car ran out of gas. fortunately, i was able to coast to a stop in a safe area. the fuel gauge has continued to malfunction. *tr
The fuel gauge on my 2003 infiniti m45 is defective. it began to occur at 101,000 miles intermittently, but now is a constant problem. the fuel gauge correctly reads the tank level until about 1/2 tank at which point it severely drops, or severely rises to "full". i know this to be a problem with this particular model in the fuel gauge cluster, and tried to have it fixed at the dealer. they did not fix it under warranty, and said there was no recall, however they recognized many other owners had the same issue. other owners have said the only way to correct the problem is to completely replace the gauge cluster, however, i will not pay for a defective part at that price, so i have been keeping track of mileage in order to time fill-ups. the danger lies in the fact that the fuel light will not come on, and the tank will read above half-full when the tank is close to empty. there is severe risk of running out of gas on the highway and causing an accident. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 infinity m45. on march 1, 2009, while the contact was driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and he had to pull over to avoid a crash. when he checked the fuel gauge, it indicated that the vehicle was full with fuel but the vehicle was out of gas. the fuel gauge would also show a full tank of gas when the tank was empty. the contact planned to take the vehicle to a local repair shop for a diagnostic test. the failure mileage was approximately 77,000. the current mileage was approximately 89,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 infiniti m45. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would register either a full or empty reading. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced; the mechanic stated that the failure would continue to occur whether it was repaired or not. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000 and the current mileage was approximately 100,000.
Gas gauge failure on infiniti m-45 2003 model. gas gauge would read full - 3/4 full when the tank was below 1/4 tank. would lead to running out of gas unless the gas was monitored by the number of miles between fill ups. this is a dangerous situation - owners potentially running out of gas when trying to cross an intersection pull out in traffic, etc. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 infiniti m45. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would provide erroneous fuel level readings. the contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled as a result of running out of fuel although the fuel gauge advised that the tank was full. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who verified the failure and advised that the instrument panel needed to replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
I purchased my m45 from used car dealer and while driving home the car stalled during chicago rush hour traffic. the wrecker towed me back to dealership who asked if i ran out of gas - i thought not possible since the fuel gauge read 3/8. the dealership filled the gas tank and car started up. i was stranded a second time in rush hour traffic in residential area and this time my tank read 7/8. check engine light is on (code p0462) due to low voltage level to the fuel level sensor due to faulty instrument cluster. inaccurate fuel gauge readings could leave the driver and or their family in danger of being seriously or fatally injured in a rear-end accident if the car stalls on the interstate. nissan infiniti car owners club has identified no less than 50 other 2003-04 m45 car owners who have experienced this problem. nissan north america is aware but refuses to correct the problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 infiniti m45. the contact stated the fuel level indicator would intermittently read that the fuel tank was full when it was not and often fluctuates back and forth from empty and full. the dealer advised that the fuel sending unit would need to be replaced. there were no recalls and the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 38,417 and the current mileage was 55,521.
2003 infiniti m45. consumer writes in regards to recall concerning fuel gauge *tgw the consumer is requesting reimbursement of related expenses of $2,168.76 as he previously paid to have the defect corrected. the consumer stated the vehicle had to be towed, where an inspection revealed the gas tank was empty, even the needle read half full. the fuel pump sending unit was replaced, but it did not rectify the problem. finally in december 2011, during a smog test, it was discovered the fuel gauge was defective. *jb
My infiniti m45 2003 model is having issue with fuel gauge not showing correct amount of gas presence in the tank. fuel gauge showed gas tank full when it is nearly empty or show empty when tank is full. fuel gauge indication is very erratic and does not provide correct information. my wife had at least 2 times stops on highway with kids and called me to bring the gas due to faulty gauge. when i had this erratic behavior of fuel gauge during warranty period, i had taken it to the dealer that they never fixed and provided some explanations to avoid the situation and adjusted something to avoid the situation at that time. once the warranty expired, dealer was ready to fix the issue with about $700 charge changing the readout cluster and fuel gauge sensor. dealer ignored my constant complaint during warranty period. it seems this is a wide spread issue in many infiniti 2003 m45 models and several nissan models according to many online discussion groups. my car has now about 92300 miles and inaddition to fuel gauge faulty behavior, i also get the service engine soon light now. i have taken the car to a mechanic (not the dealer) and it was identified as fuel gauge senor issue and gave me about $700 estimate to fix it as dealer indicated on previous occasions. according to my online research and mechanic inputs, this is a known issue for infiniti and nissan models. it is very risky to drive the car with false sense of security, especially with kids not knowing the amount of gas in the tank. my constant complaint to the dealer had not been answered during warranty but now ready to fix it with a $700 price tag. this is not an isolated incident and need to be addressed with manufacturer by the authority that consumer requests have been ignored. your direct involvement would be greatly appreciated. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 infiniti m45. on approximately nine occasions, the vehicle would completely shut off and sometimes would not restart. the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer approximately four times. they stated that the failure could be caused by the shift lock or the fuel system, but there was no resolution. the current mileage was 50,300 and failure mileage was 5,000.
Fuel gauge showing wrong level of gas. had fuel sending unit replaced twice still not working. now they tell me i have to replace the gauge cluster. this will cost over $2000.00. this is a known defect and there should be a recall on this before somebody gets killed, or is infiniti waiting for someone to get killed before they do the recall? *tr
