Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2004 Hyundai XG350

Car experienced spontaneous acceleration ending in accident that totaled vehicle. backed out of driveway, put car in drive, took foot off brake, didn't yet accelerate, car jolted with high rpms and caused accident.

I was driving and rusted subframe collapsed control arm & right axel broke also power steering belt broke. i was able to get over nearly having an accident. i had my car repaired in 2010 as per recall yet i tried to push for sub frame replacement over repair at that time with no luck. i believe these sub frames that were repaired should be replaced. this is an extremely dangerous situation i could have been killed! *tr

I own a 2004 hyundai xg350l that is having accelerator issues. on several occasions, while stopped / idling, or slowing down, the vehicle will suddenly accelerate. this is while the brake is being applied. i can be setting at a stop light or stop sign with foot on the brake, not the accelerator, ( i do not drive with both feet like some people incorrectly do : ) and suddenly the car will rev up and try and accelerate forward. in other cases, i can be slowing down with brake applied, and again, the vehicle will accelerate forward. i have to really "mash" the brake to prevent the car from accelerating forward. once i bring the car to a stop, and the car is still trying to accelerate, i will have to put the shifter into neutral, and turn the car off. i can let the car sit for several minutes, restart it, and it will usually be back to normal. luckily, i have not had any accidents as a result of this issue, as some of the other people who have posted complaints have......yet. on several other occasions, it has been just the opposite..........i will be driving down the road at any given speed, and suddenly the car will just stop accelerating & go to an idle. you can press the gas petal to the floor, and the accelerator will not respond. the car will remain running, but will only idle. i once had to drive approx. 8 miles, in the emergency lane, at an idle speed of about 5-10 mph to reach my destination : ( these where once sporadic occurrences, but now happens on a daily bases. i just recently replaced the throttle position sensor, and this did not fix the problem. i have learned that it could be caused by the "accelerator petal position sensor"; hyundai pn:35357-3b011. there is obviously a serious issue w/ accelerator problems w/ the xg350, sonata & santa fe, that hyundai needs to address. i have read of cases w/ hyundai acceleration problems that have caused deaths. *tr

I have a 2004 hyundai xg350. many times when i leave the car overnight (or for a few hours) and then start it back again, the gear does not engage when i put it in drive. when i press the accelerator, after a few seconds, the gear engages suddenly and the car lurches forward. the problem persists for the first few minutes while i am driving. so when i am making a turn, again the car has to start from zero, so it wouldn't move for the first few seconds and just jump forward. this can be very risky at times, especially on turns. once the engine is heated up, there is no problem. i have also found other people facing same issue but not fix for this problem yet. i wish a class action lawsuit could be filed against hyundai. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 hyundai xg350. the contact stated that while driving 15 mph the rpms increased excessively and the vehicle tried to accelerate. while depressing the brake pedal and shifting the vehicle in park, the vehicle did not move forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test, a road test drive and found nothing wrong with the vehicle. the manufacturer was contacted and a claim number 54264 was filed. a representative from the manufacturer inspected the vehicle and found nothing wrong with it. the failure mileage was 38,000. updated 03/31/11*lj updated 04/22/11

We have a 2004 hyundai xg 350, on at least a half a dozen occasions, while coming to a stop, the car would suddenly accelerate and would not stop while pressing on the brake, luckily we were able to avoid any accidents. we took it to our local hyundai dealer on 10/20/10, they told us it was the throttle position sensor, they replaced it, said it was fixed. yesterday, 11/28/10, it did the exact same thing again, only this time we weren't as lucky. my husband tried to stop as he pulled into our driveway, the car suddenly accelerated, and he ran into the front of our house. the front bumper of the car has minimal damage, our house has a huge dent in the front of it. needless to say, it could have been much worse, he wasn't injured, but he or someone else could have been. the car is currently at our local dealership again, they called today and said they couldn't find a problem with it and hyundai says they have no record of this problem on this model of car, so imagine my surprise to find several complaints on the nhtsa website. someone is covering up this problem somewhere, i hope it doesn't take someone getting seriously injured or killed for something to be done about it. *tr

While at slower speed trying to slow down by applying brakes ,car accelerated on its own..seems like brake had no effect to slow down the car..as i was about to hit car in front of mine , i shifted auto transmission stick of my car in parking mode while feet on brake..i was scared hell..never had happened like this ever driving. *tr

I bought the 2004 hyundai xg350 in february 05. in summer of 06 i began having problems with the digital reading of miles togo before "e". it does not reset when gas has been put in, it takes a few turns of the key to register. i was driving my son to school one morning and as i tried to accelerate to go up a hill the car began to studder, check engine light appeared,it felt like something wasnt catching in order for the vehicle to move. when i stopped a the red light and slowly took my foot off the brake it would lunge forward. i ended up having to have it towed to the dealer. of course the problem didnt happen when they test drove. they changed the sensor and it hasnt been symptom free. still slow to reset gas mileage, still studders, check engine light. when it starts to studder i am able to drive under 60mph, shifting drive 1-2-3 like a stick shift. once i try to go over 60 miles per hour (highway) can not do it without continuous studder.

Dt*: the contact stated the brake and accelerator pedal were close enough to each other to depress simultaneously. the dealership stated there was no problem with the vehicle; therefore, no repairs were made.

Hyundai xg350 year 2004 model had unintended acceleration problem. the car jumped the curb when pulling into a parking spot. my foot was on the brake as evidence by my daughter. i tried to break numerous times, and finally the car got caught up on a bush. it was as if the gas pedal was stuck. the car just would not stop, and it was slightly damaged. hyundai replaced the car, but rewrote the loan with the 10 k original down payment getting lost in the paperwork. reporting this because i did not know of this forum back then. contacted an attorney, but they said there was nothing that could be done with the matter. *tr

Dt: the contact was traveling on a very busy street at a low speed. he was directly behind a delivery truck. he was constantly braking and then moving slowly, the contact's foot was never on the accelerator pedal. the engine suddenly accelerated without warning and the contact hit the back of the truck at about 3 mph. the brakes were applied, but the vehicle failed to stop before hitting the truck. the front of the vehicle sustained heavy cosmetic damage and the hood was damaged as well. no police report was taken at the scene. there were no injuries sustained. the vehicle was seen by the service dealer for diagnostic testing, and the results were negative. therefore, no repairs were made. the primary concern of the contact was that he saw a similar complaint filed by another vehicle owner online. *ak

This is an update of my previous reported found on your odi number 10118222. my car accelerated when i applied the brakes to my 2004 hyundai xg350. this car and many other hyundai models use a drive- by- wire system. i have found over 300 similar complaints on companies that use drive- by- wire. these cars are defective products and include 2002-2005 hyundai, kia, toyota, and mitsubishi. in my case two different hyundai engineers could not find the problem. an independent inspector can prove i had my foot on the brake and not the gas pedal when trying to stop, but no luck. some injuries have already been reported and perhaps there have been people killed who can not report their accident. there were 3 people killed in my area driving hyundai cars. the report in our news paper of the accident read as if the sudden acceleration problem caused the accidents. i am requesting that you open up an investigation on hyundai cars that accelerate when braking. also if at all possible the investigation should include all car manufacturers that use drive- by- wire systems. these cars are safety issues and there are enough complaints to prove it. the cars are potential bombs and a danger to passengers in the car and other cars on the road. some action must be taken to prevent additional injuries and possible deaths from these cars. *jb

When slowing down and braking the car accelerated on its own. the first time i hit the car in front of me . i had to turn the key off to get it to stop. i had bumper damage. have had the car in 5 times for this same problem. each time the dealer said they can find nothing wrong. the last time the factory rep checked it and said he could do nothing because it would not do it then. as of 4/20/06 this car has done this 8 times. it is like driving a time bomb. *nm

While the vehicle was idling the accelerator pedal became stuck and the vehicle suddenly accelerated. this problem occurred intermittently. the dealer inspected the vehicle on several occasions but was unable to duplicate the problem. please provide any further information. *nlm

Vehicle would accelerate without warning while consumer would apply brakes to either slow down or stop vehicle. pulled vehicle over. had vehicle towed to dealership. mechanic could not determine cause of acceleration.*ak consumer was told they over filled gas tank. left blinker hesitates or at times does not blink at all. *ts *ph
