Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2013 Hyundai Veloster

The knob on to the ac and heat in the vehicle burned out and doesnt work. according to main websites, this issue happens alot and continues to be an issue for many even after it's been replaced.

While driving in the highway i had a burn wire smell when my air conditioner was set at blower speed 4 and it stop working at that setting. i was doing dome research and found the controller has a tendency to get burn indide due to be unable to hold the blower electrical load. i think this can turn into a fire hazard. found info in forums, youtube videos etc. lot of people is dealing with this to the point they replace the part with an original one and the new one gets burn again. the controller pn: 97250-2v010-bpd

The fan switch for the hvac quit working, so i took the climate control module off to see what the problem was and noticed the switch itself was melted and burned, as if there was a fire and/or the voltage is too high. this is a severe fire hazard and should be looked into immediately. i am not the only person having this issue.

The temperature control keeps melting i have read they are a lot of compliments about this fire hazard i have replaced it 3 times but the wording harness is burnt

Steering wheel making clunking noises when it is turned and messed up clocks ring causing the vehicles airbag light to turn on

The climate control/fan speed selector knob melts and burns out, causing a potential fire hazard. voltage is too high for the material they are using and thus causes it to melt and burn out.

The drivers side window does not come back up the motor engages and window stuck in open also occured on the passenger rear window

Takara recall. ac switch and wires are burnt, possible electrical fire.

Fan blower switch no longer functions on setting 1 or 2. setting 3 and 4 work for now. a faint electrical smell was detected shortly after i changed the fan speed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 hyundai veloster. the contact stated that the climate control fan switch melted, which affected the fan speed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called duell's evansville hyundai (located at 4400 e division st, evansville, in 47715, (812) 473-4400) where it was diagnosed that the control fan switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 116,618.

The ac/heater blower switch was replaced 2 years ago and as of today i removed the switch for not working again and found the switch and box had melted and caught fire. this is a major fire hazard that has occurred to multiple people.

I am on my third control heater assembly (part number: 972502v010blh) - after several months the fan speed control breaks. it totally falls apart internally and now i see why - appears to be a heat issue. i do not feel safe in this vehicle as i could see an electrical fire starting, i have attached a photo of the connector.

I have a hyundai veloster 2013. on the hwy home from work my car suddenly lost power, i was able to make it to the side of the road where it completely died. upon initial inspection it seemed to be in part due to the battery. we replaced the battery and . switched out the alternator to test it and took it in to the dealership where they charged us 150 to suggest factory parts in order to diagnose it. i refused and put the old alternator back on after it tested clear and hecked the fuses. the multi fuse for the alternator had blown so we replaced that (making it driveable) and brought it in to a different hyundai service dept. they didnt charge me to tell me that it had blown a rod and i needed a new engine. hyundai is refusing to do anything however did call the sexist jerks from the originally hyundai dealership and used that interacton as basis to say my car is fine...

My car began making a whistling sound and stopped in traffic. no power just stopped.- i was driving on a feeder road at about 35mph.

We took the car to hondai before this recall about 3 month ago left it there for 3 days they did a deep check up on the electricity since the car won't drive no results were found and the car still not working.

My wife has a 2013 hyundai veloster turbo and the hvac system has stopped functioning. after investigating the matter i discovered a manufacturer defect with the vehicle. the power wire leading to the climate control module overheated and melted the plastic connector and destroyed the climate control module. this could have started a fire. i contacted hyundai consumer affairs and hyundai customer care immediately to notify them of the issue and so that they would cover the repair costs fully. i also informed them of two other issues, one, the steering wheel controls are malfunctioning and two, one of the led lights in the passenger tail light is out. i received a case number from them, #15272744. i made an appointment at lancaster hyundai located on main street in east petersburg pa and dropped the car off. i also informed them of all the issues and my findings (this was yesterday 1/18/19). this morning (1/19/19) i received a call back from service advisor david corey who left me a voicemail stating that hyundai has declined to cover the repairs and telling me to come pick up the car. since then i have contacted hyundai consumer affairs and hyundai customer care to no avail. this issue with the climate control module is well documented online and there has even been a recall for it issued by hyundai but for some reason my wife's vehicle is not included in the recall. i have uploaded photos of the damaged connector and wiring harness as well as a photo from another hyundai veloster owner which shows the recall for the climate control module. i am thankful to god that the vehicle did not catch fire since my wife and two year old son travel in it every day. i just want hyundai to do the right thing and cover the costs to repair this factory defect.

I purchased my 2013 hyundai veloster in fall of 2015 as second owner from world hyundai in matteson, il. it had roughly 32,000 on the odometer. after two decent years of relatively trouble free ownership the "electrical gremlins" attacked the trunk release, then the reverse camera, then the climate control knob. i was reluctant to take the car in again because i had spent more money on diagnostic charges than i had on items that were covered. i liked the vehicle and meticulously maintained it to spec as well. on one of the coldest days in winter of 2019, i went out to start up my veloster and was terrified by a loud metal ticking followed by rattling in the motor. i immediately shut down the car. i waited a bit then tried to start it again. it was very bad. i took the car to the closest hyundai dealership in which i described all the issues with the car. at this point the vehicle has roughly 92000 miles on the odometer and of course the tell me there is nothing they can do but, replace the motor for around $4500 , sell me a new one, or buy it in trade. once again i paid over $430 in diagnostic fees with no coverage or help. looked around on line and found that these vehicles has had all of the above issues and no clear solutions to any. i've also noticed that all of the issues i have had with my vehicle many others have posted on youtube, google etc., but not many have filed official complaint. come on people! get on board!

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 hyundai veloster. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v204000 (electrical system, engine). while driving 70 mph, the contact heard an abnormal popping and clunking noise and the vehicle stalled. smoke emerged from the vehicle and oil was in the engine compartment. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the contact called lee hyundai of goldsboro (304 n oak forest rd, goldsboro, nc 27534, (866) 789-1488), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 15836168, but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 121,000.

The trunk latch had been failing intermittently. i stopped at a dealership who opened the driver's door, and began locking and unlocking the electric door locks. this solved the problem at the time. i asked how playing with the locks would fix the trunk issue. the question was not answered. this solved the problem for a couple of years. however, the trunk latch finally failed permanently. i could not open the trunk via the emergency latch from the in side. i was told by the dealership that the issue was an electrical issue. hence, the door lock remidey. multiple veloster owners have reported the same with some years being recalled. the 2013 has not been recalled and the dealership quoted 400.00 to repair this defect. i bought the car new and it now has 50,000 miles. i have had multiple safety issues with this vehicle that have been resolved but fyi-issue with abs kicking in during every single brake, even if at a red light. i brought the car to the dealership multiple times for this issue and was told it was normal. i went to another dealership and test-drove another 2013 hyundai veloster. the abs only kicked in when appropriate not with every single break. while purchasing tires after a 3rd blowout ( 30, 000 miles) the tire company noticed something wrong with the sensors to the abs. this was resolved by the tire company. it's concerning that huyndai would not acknowledge the abs issue. in fact, they don't acknowledge anything-- my gps never worked correctly which was reported to hyundai at least 10 times over a three-year period. i finally made a video of the malfunction- as soon as i submitted the video the gps was replaced immediately. problem being the new gps was the same model as the first and does not work either. i now have a vehicle without a gps and without a trunk that opens.

The heating control unit knob does not set on the various settings (1-4) and does not blow heat or air correctly. many people have had this issue and end up having to replace the unit themselves. the issue is the contacts get burned out and no longer work. this is a serious fire hazard and i dont know why a recall hasnt been issued. if you search online you will see numerous examples of what i am referring to. if i replace this myself i have to risk damaging my car or electrocuting myself and paying for an expensive part. the other option is have a mechanic do it and end up spending over 500$ for something that should not be malfunctioning. please investigate this serious issue and do the right thing.

The latch on the veloster seems to go out it stilll can here the motor working but will not open no other way to open the hatch from inside many people have complain online don't know exactly what is the issue causing the problem

My climate cintril knob stopped working st different settings. sometime i get levek 4 firce of air when the selectiin is on 1. or other times i get air force of 2 when the selection is on 4. my ac also won't work once the knob started actung up. my second issue is my check engine light gies on and off. i got a reading of dtc p0087 but i am told there is no recall even thou there is a tsb out there.

The ac fan control switch on the dash melts on the back of it and causes the switch to only work on speed 1 and in some cases not at all. now ive researched this multiple times and many many people have had the same issue that im having and some have even had their while car catch fire. so to better explain im adding a youtube link that explains what has happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ckrhib7xnu&feature=share

Incident happened on july 21st 2017 at 1:45pm at 9701 dessau road, austin texas. i was coming around the corner at dessau and rundberg heading north and i felt the car skip a little and had some loss of power. i pulled into the parking lot at 9701 dessau and the car was smoking and the brakes went out. i pulled the emergency brake and then opened the hood, there was fire and black smoke coming out and i ran inside to get a fire extinguisher. it looked like the alternator failed and caught on fire. the fire spread under the motor cover and burned some of the hood, but i got to it quickly and minimal damage was done. i could have crashed and died.

One afternoon during rush hour in the bronx my gear stick would not shift from p to d so i had to use the override shiftier function just to get my car to move. along with the gear shift not working none of the electrical components in the car worked not my indicators/hazards, my windows wont wind down so i could at least signal my intention, my wind shield wipers were non operable and my seat belt sensor does not work. it was pouring out this day and i had no visibility because my wipers would not work and could not signal to other drivers my intentions. the next day i took my car to the dealership and they concluded that the issue was related to the aftermarket auto start the previous owner had installed. so i had the auto start removed but the issue still occurs, hyundai is unsure of what is causing the problem. hyundai is suggesting a complete rewiring because they are unsure exactly what is causing the issue and claim it will not be covered under warranty because it seems to be an electrical issue, which are not covered under warranty. this will cost me upward of 7000$. i am sure this is a defect there is no way a car with less than 30,000 miles should be having such major issues. this vehicle is very unsafe for me to drive without any indicators or my gear shiftier working. when making a u-turn or pulling into parking spots it takes me twice as long because i need to have something sharp handy to push into the gear shift release button.

Our 2013 model hyundai veloster closed sunroof exploded on february 27, 2016 while driving down freeway at 65mph in fast lane. it sounded like a gun going off when the roof exploded into pieces on the backs of me and my husband. we where is utter shock, trying to get off the freeway safely while glass falling on us. when looking at the roof, it was clear that it exploded bursting from inside out; leaving the frame bent like it was forced open from inside out. this was not a pressure issue (before getting on freeway, the sunroof was open). it was not a hot or cold issues either as it was a nice 72 degrees. though there is a recall for the 2012 veloster models and unfortunately there has not been enough people to report issues for 2013 models as of yet. when contacting hyundai dealership, i wanted to file complaint (they gave me an 1800 number) then i asked if there were any issues, they denied ever hearing about something like this. as my husband and i are commuters, we have already run out of warranty and would need to pay out of pocket. i will be fighting for reimbursement of the $1,490.00 ($500 deductible) that it cost to fix the sunroof and frame that needed replaced. my argument is that i purchased my 2013 vehicle in oct. 2012, therefore my car was manufactured in 2012 and they were still using the 2012 defected roof for the early 2013 models and that should be honored to the 2012 recall.

Hello, this report is not for a particular incident, however it is widespread and should be addressed. i highly encourage you to read this article: http://www.networkworld.com/article/2871485/microsoft-subnet/hackers-could-exploit-security-holes-in-progressive-insurance-snapshot-devices.html this tells of how the progressive snapshot vulnerable to hackers and transmits the data it collects unencrypted. since the progressive snapshot is plugged directly into the obd-ii port, it has access to the vehicle's computer, which could allow a hacker to control the car. after reading this, i have opted-out of the snapshot program and therefore, my chance to get a discount. this needs to be addressed because it puts millions of people at risk. thank you *tr

4 times i have hit a pothole or a bump on the road and have had a "loud bang", the car jerks violently and then the wipers came on - one time i had the "loud bang" the car jerked violently the wipers came on and the car went into neutral. the combination of the suspension, tires and rims make this car very dangerous on roads that have any kind of potholes or bumps. please help. *js

I was driving down the highway during the winter last year approx. january and had half the miles listed above. my interior heat control was on full blast and it cut out. i tried to adjust and it would turn on if the knob was perfectly aligned....slight electrical burning smell was present. took into dealer and they replaced the interior blower switch, the connection had scortch marks on it so they replaced the wires and connectors along with the switch/control knob. 6 months later the problem was recurring except this time i was running air conditioning as the temp outside was 36 degrees celsius outside.... this time much worse. it smelt like an electrical fire. ,,,i took the cover plate off that held the heater controls in place and the connections on it literally melted off into my hand. this is not an isolated incident, many other have the same issue with this car, and this is the second time for me. here are links to other people having similar issues ---------------------- http://www.veloster.org/forum/37-hyundai-veloster-issues-tsbs-recalls/8177-hvac-fan-speed-switch-issue.html ---------------------- http://www.veloster.org/forum/8-hyundai-veloster-general-discussion/7729-weird-problem-ac-shuts-down-when-fan-setting-moved-4-highest.html ---------------------- picture of said issue/melting --------------------- http://instagram.com/p/qh-qucif2k/ *js

Tuesday the 22nd, my stereo stopped coming on start-up. saturday the 26th car would not start. after car was jump started, stereo came on, but car would not shift. had to manually override shifter to drive car, at which point i discovered all electrical parts had stopped functioning, including tail lights, turn signals, power windows, etc. dealership replaced battery and entire junction box, but issue reappeared 1 month later. *tr

When i wash my car i like to wipe down the engine and the inner part of the front hood. about a week ago i went to wash my car open the hood only to discover a white substance (almost like white battery corrosion) running all down my fire wall cover. i made an appointment with the service department told them not to do anything to the car until they can explain to me how it happen and how are they going to fix it. about 20 minutes later the service manager calls me over and explains to me that the white substance on my firewall was when the detail people from where i purchase my car left it there. i explain to him that would be impossible since i always look at my hood and this was the first time i saw it. the service manager then turns to the two decals on the top of the hood and stated they may be water seeking in but because he did not find the firewall wet he just wiped off the white substance and told me there is nothing he can do it's just the designee of the decals. i'm not even sure it is the two decals; but one thing for sure something is allowing water to seek into my firewall and hyundai is not taking care of their customers nhtsa please help. *tr

The speedometer and tachometer dashboard instruments are almost unreadable by persons with red-green color blindness. approximately 5% to 10% of the male population is red-green color blind (0.5% to 1% for females). the speedometer and tachometer dials are black with white lettering and deep red needles to point at the lettering. that deep red on a black background is almost invisible. if i spend time searching, i can find the needle, but it is very unsafe to take one's eyes off the road for the length of time it takes to find the almost invisible needle. an argument of, "if you can't read the instruments, get a different car," is not reasonable because the car one is driving is not always one's own car, such as it may be an employer's car or (the way i discovered this problem) it may be a rental car, and there are many other scenarios where one did not choose the car one has to drive. since 5% to 10% of the male population has this color vision deficiency, i cannot believe that hyundai never discovered the problem, but chose styling over safety. i also suspect this problem is not limited to hyundai. *tr

This vehicle had a serious safety issue occur around 5:00 am on july 10th; as i was driving out of my driveway (car in drive and in motion) all power failed. no lights, acceleration, power steering or brakes, etc. which was a serious hazard especially given the darkness at that time of day. this safety issue followed multiple occasions where all the power failed when trying to enter the vehicle using the provided key fobs. these situations could also have been dangerous as on one occasion this happened while my car was in an urban parking garage in the evening. it took approximately 45 minutes- 1 hour before the power restored and i could start the vehicle. i brought it to the dealership on july 5th to remedy the power issue and the technician could find no issue - they switched out the car battery as a precaution in the event there was a hairline crack causing the intermittent power failures. as of august 27th, the vehicle was still not repaired from the july 10th incident. dealership notified me it was replacing the entire fuse box and engine wiring harness as the diagnosed cause of the failure. *jb

Stereo speaker system keeps coming loose from, harness, repaired, broken again. was told by dealer recall issue. both headlights and factory installed fog lights have repeatedly gone out, costing several hundred dollars to repair. paint is chipping off vehicle in several places, has been since approx 6 months after buying car and told by dealer there is nothing wrong with paint, although chipping in straight line

It started as some small shocks from door and steering wheel. the vehicle now shocks you from just about anywhere you stand. i did bring it to the dealer and after having for over 3 days only a oil change had been done. i asked to pick up for a appt. i had on sunday and all three pages of what was to be looked at stated work not done.i told service advisor i needed to get car fixed before i drove across country, i asked to bring it back and he said i thought you were leaving which i am but very concerned about driving any length because it gets painful if i have to turn on lights. *tr

While traveling down the road at approximately 50 mph the crank pulley fell off the motor. this prevents the alternator, water pump and ac compressor from functioning as they are belt driven. with the alternator not functioning the batter will be drained to the point of dead (depending on what accessories are on) and with the water pump not functioning the car will almost immediately overheat leaving the vehicle stranded. *tr

Vehicle in park, drivers side window and passenger rear does not engage to bring down window. also 2nd incident on 10/6/2012, passenger door and window does not unlock to open from inside when vehicle placed in park. have taken into the dealer two times to have vehicle inspected for fault. technicians have not been able to replicate mis-function. unsure if vehicle has a defect. *tr
