Hyundai tiburon 2003 clutch failure. *bf the pedal stuck to the floor. *sc
2003 new hyundai tibburon clutch failed at 29000, the dealer told that cause of raugh driving, the clutch is not included in warranty, estimated $2000, the car 's been at dealer's for almost 20 days till now, they are still changing clutch now..we 've been renting car for almost 20 days too..after i read online, i know that was just bully us, i've been driven manual car for 20 years, i know i am not raugh type, why cannot they just admit the clutch itself is problem? ? i am going to contact state attorney about this, anyone out there knows more details or have same problem please send me email at : [email protected], let 's do something together..only leaving complaints is not the best way to solve this problem..thanks. *ak
2003 hyundai tiburon v6 6 speed early clutch failure. *tr
I own a 2003 hyundai tiburon and when the weather is cold it was difficult to shift the car into any gear. since the company advertises a bumper to bumper warranty i wasn't to worried about this. finally i had the chance to drop the car off at the dealership for a check engine light. when i picked the car up the service manager told me that the clutch was worn out and not covered under warranty. he also told me that the flywheel would need to be replaced alos not covered under the warranty because the failed clutch caused the problem. i was told that to repair them both would be around seventeen hundred dollars . *ak
While shifting and without warning the vehicle stalled. driver was unable to restart vehicle. had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and mechanic determined that the clutch needed to be replaced. *ak three days after the vehicle was serviced at the dealer the clutch burned out. the tow truck operator indicated that there was not hydraulic fluid in the slave reservoir which controls the clutch. *nm
Clutch failure @ around 22,000 miles. *nm
Clutch is going bad at 28k. first one went out at 500 miles. this will be the third clutch on the vehicle before at 28k. dealership says my driving habits. i know how to drive manual. this will be my 3rd clutch before 30k, this is ridiclous. the clutch assembly is defective. there are hundreds of people with the same problem, this is not an isolated incident. *ak
I have a 2003 tiburon v6 5 speed with 34,000 miles. clutch is completely burnt out and hyundai says it is normal wear and tear...absolutely not true , especially from the hundreds and hundreds of complaints i've seen. i was just told by a mechanic (not at hyundai shop--they were too expensive) that the flywheel has a faulty component, and that if i put a new clutch in, it will eat that one too. this is going to cost me min. $1500. hyundai needs to admit they have a problem and fix it. its too late for me, i'll never own another hyundai, but we need to be reimbursed and the cars need recalled immediately. *nm
In december 2004 while driving my 2003 hyundai tiburon gt, the clutch went out and i was unable to shift properly in traffic, this incident almost cause a multi-car collection. i had to coast to the side of the road and turn off engine, shift into 1st gear then start the car. i called the hyundai dealership for help and they told me that the clutch warranty ran out at 12000 miles, i couldnt afford to pay their high costs so i bought a new clutch and had it fixed by a mechanic i could afford. it runs the same due to the flywheel and the warranty covers up to 50,000 miles --now the dealership is refusing to fix it because another mechanic worked on it. they knew this at the time i called the first time-----i just read the tsb #0440005 the procedure was not follled by them --it says clearly that the clutch and flywheel are deformed and need to be replace if the customer calls in about a clutch problem like i did --they never did--if they did i would never had got it fixed by another mechanic and bought the same factory clutch again that was deformed they never told me. help please . *ak
Clutch and flywheel failed on vehicle at 30,250 miles. dealer claims repair costs ($2280) excluded from warranty as "wear item." warranty vaguely worded, yet additional documentation on ntsb website suggests this problem is widespread. automobile currently at dealer. vin # available upon request.*ak
I own a 2003 hyundai tiburon with 30000 miles. i recently took it to the dealership and they told me i need a new clutch. i then did some research into this problem and found many other owners with the same problem. hyundai is claiming its because of driving habits but the mechanic who fixed my car (not hyundai dealer) found no abuse signs. i dont know what will come out of this but i hope someone investigates this problem before someone gets hurt driving one of these cars. the website for the car is www.tuscani.be go into forum and into the general section and read the clutch problem comments. *ak
My 2003 hyundai tiburon has about 23,000 miles on it and the clutch is blown. this is my second replacement. i replaced both times with oem parts and hyundai corp are not helping what so ever. *jb
Owned my 2003 hyundai tiburon for about 36 months. during that time i have had to replace the clutch and flywheel twice. this is ridiculous. i have been driving manual transmissions since 1967 and have never burnt a clutch. and i am not alone. there are hundreds and hundreds of documented cases on the net and perhaps even thousands. each repair costs $1500-$2000. the first repair in november 2004 cost me $1800. both failures happened in traffic and both times had to take evasive maneuver to prevent an accident. the last time i ended up in a highway ditch to prevent a 40 ft trailer from running my car over. somebody better take a look at this car because it definitely has clutch / flywheel problems probably cause by poorly designed hydraulics. the way the hydraulics are designed causes the fluid to be restricted in one direction leading to smoother shifting, but it is this "smoother shifting" (slipping) that apparently is causing the excessive heat and burning up the clutches and flywheels. is there someone out there in government that cares enough to address this problem? corporate giant hyundai is not stepping up to correct this problem. at the rate of these failures, however, i'm destined to have another one. i am really "afraid" to drive it. is anyone going to do anything about this? or are they going to allow corporate giant hyundai to rip off the citizens of this country? i will be contacting my us senator and will be contacting the heads of the senate committees that oversee the nhtsa. i've noticed that complaints have been filed here for quite some time and nothing has been done, not even an investigation. *** there is only space in this complaint for one failure "date." my first failure occurred in november 2004, and the second failure occurred in december 2005 (repaired in march 2006). why so long in repairing? i refused to pay for it unless hyundai did something. i have records of all the repairs if needed. *nm
Clutch giving out in 2003 hyundai tiburon gt. *nm
Clutch slips while trying to accelerate to any speed. was entering highway and car would not accelerate on ramp almost causing a fatal accident. dealership says i ride the clutch and wore it out. i have owned several manual transmission cars in the past and never once had a clutch go bad. car only has 29000 miles on it. mechanic told me that even with riding the clutch there is no way it should go out so soon. faulty clutch assembly??? i think so. hyundai needs to step up to their responsibilities and send a recall so that all of these "near" accidents don't turn into fatalities. fatalities due to faulty parts=lawsuits...lawsuits=millions. get your act together hyundai. *jb
Clutch assembly wore out prematurely at 21,000 miles. dealer notified, and had no answer for this issue. *ak
I have 2003 v6 tiburon, clutch failed at 19,000 miles. i learned to drive on manual transmission, have driven 6 years and never any clutch problems until this car. dealership blamed me stating "owner abuse". had hyundai regional rep come out and she also blamed me, and said there were no other complaints on 2003 tiburons. told her about this site and she said "oh well, that's from people who race their cars and abuse them, we're not taking responsibility for their problems that they've caused themselves". dealership was great, they came down on cost of repair from $1700 to $1400. they replaced all parts with 2004 parts and i haven't had any other problems, even though i still drive the same as i always did, so how can it be "owner abuse" that caused the problem? if it was my fault then why hasn't it happened again? my mom bought 2004 5 speed tiburon (she bought it before my problems started) and hasn't had any trouble at all. seems hyundai did realize there was a problem with 2003 clutch assembly and wouldn't ever admit it, but changed parts for 2004. they need to acknowledge this widespread problem and reimburse all owners that have paid out of pocket to repair something that was hyundai's fault in the first place. *nm
I own a 2003 hyundai tiburon v6. it has 22500 miles and the clutch has gone out. we took it back to the dealer and they told us 3 times it would be covered by the warranty. after having the car for 8 days they called to say that the parts wont be covered due to "abuse". after talking to hyundai they will not cover any part of repairing this. this car is a daily driver, not a race car! i believe hydunai knows their clutchs are bad -- we need a recall. *jb
I have had my clutch and transmission repaired since 9-02. then i was told about a defective part in the transmission, but it was no repaired at the time. i was told i could drive the vehicle, so i believed the service technician. in 6-03, once again i the defective clutch assembly, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch plate and the throw out bearing were replaced, and the sunroof motor was replaced for the second time. on 10-03 sunroof was repaired again. on 5-04 the sunroof was repaired again. on7-21-04 i advised service department my gears were getting stuck, but all the serviceman did was removed starter and told the rep it was covered with clutch disc material, therefore it was not covered by my powertrain warranty. it is the transmission that was not fixed on 9-02 that was the problem and they refuse to check it. i have a 2003 tiburon!!!*ak
Clutch problem, car gets stuck in gear. the only way to get the car in reverse is to put it in reverse before starting it up. *la
I bought a 2003 hyundai tiburon in may of 2003. i drove it off the lot with 5 miles on it. 200 miles down the road, i stop at a light and come to find that the car wont go into gear. well we pushed the car off the road and had it towed. the dealer told me the next day that i needed a new clutch. now that i have 22000 miles the clutch is gone again and they will not replace it under my "oh so over used" 100,000 mile warranty. word is, there is a clause in the warranty that states the clutch is not part of that warranty, the clutch has a separate 12,000 mile warranty of its own. nobody at the dealer ever tells anyone this. so now i am stuck with a bill for over 1500 dollars. i have driven over 75,000 miles in a manual, and have never had a clutch burn out. something needs to be done to make hyundai back their word, and also fix the faulty clutch problem in their cars. *la
2003 hyundia tiburon 4 cyl clutch problems. the car shakes in 1st gear when you let up on the clutch. also the clutch is very high, waiting for it to brake. i only have 13, 000 miles and i am going back to the dealer a second time. they keep telling me there is nothing wrong. i have taken it to a garage and they tell me that i need a new clutch. i see hundreds of complaints on the internet about this same problem on the 4 and 6 cylinder engines.. please help us!!*ak
2003 hyundai tiburon 4cyl clutch problem. replaced at 13,000 miles and it is going again at 41,000. i bought the car new and i am 44 years old and i don't abuse the car. *tr
I have a 2003 hyundia tiburon. clutch slipping and vibration at 13000 miles. they replaced clutch assembly for free. now i have 17,400 miles and clutch is slipping again. please help all the owners of 2003 tiburon manuels. the dealer wants to charge $80.00 to look and tell me if it is my fault. i've been driving clutches well over 100,000 miles on cars. help!!*ak
Tiburon 2003 vt v6 has 18000 miles on it and clutch fails on highway. will not shift out of first gear. took it to the dealership where they kept it for three days and needed a authorization to take apart the transmission. service people found that the disc was completely hot and worn down, which damaged bearings. not covered under 100000 warranty because disk was worn down. clutch is faulty and they replace faulty clutches over and over again. they want 1400 dollars for it, with a 50 % off from the corporation. we need all clutches recalled and people's money back now!!!! they don't want to be responsible for consumer fraud!!!! check www.mycarstats.com http://www.tuscani.be/forum/index.cfm/act/show_messages/thread_id/328. *ak .
1) clutch in car was slipping when driving on highway. also was shuddering when acceleration from low speed in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. 2) clutch slipping to the extent it was difficult to drive on highway 3) initially hyundai said nothing was wrong and did nothing. after 3rd visit to dealer they finally looked into it further and found that the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and throwout bearing were all bad. dealer replaced all parts following inspection. *nm
i own an 03' 5spd tiburon gt although i love my car, the look, feel, and comfort it affords me as a daily driver. it has been plagued with many defective parts from sunroof track (twice) , leaky sunroof onto factory amp (in heavy rain) , alternator(exibited noise and smell batt. light came on),drivers side window motor(thankfully window stuck in closed position). the most disconcerting problem of all however is the clutch assembly.the first clutch failed after only 6052miles and was replaced under warranty but on the service invoice it states "advised customer 1 time replacement on cluch and related componets" so much for the great warranty. now my tibby has 28000 miles on it and the clutch has "wore out" again, only this time the incident occured in a congested highway during 5:00 traffic. i depressed the clutch only to recieve a chrrssshhh noise, the clutch wouldent allow me to engage any gear i was almost rearended which i'm sure would've caused a pile up. swerving into the adjacent lane to avoid impact,i pressed the flashers and coasted my way throuch traffic. the dealership insists my "driving habbits" are the cause of the problem. i have driven many manual cars and have had no clutch issues on any of them. this is ridiculous 2 clutches in 28000miles something is really wrong,i know there are many of us out there with this same problem if your reading this now chances are you have the same problem. dont take it,file complaints, spread the word, we've got to keep huyndai honest if enough of us complain they will have to fix this problem and if you've already paid for a new clutch you could get deserved rembursement. the bottom line your not alone lets help eachother with this. *ak
Clutch went out three xs before 40,000 miles. if anyone has the same problems please respond in detail. thanks. *nm
Dealer states that the clutch and flywheel on our 2003 hyundai tiburon has worn out and is need of replacement. the vehicle was sold with a 100,000 mile 10/yr. powertrain warranty and 5/yr 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. dealer states that the fine print in the warranty specifies that the clutch is a maintenance part not covered by the above warranties past 12,000 miles. estimated repair is $1,500. dealer and hyundai customer service informed us that "rough driving" was the principle cause of this problem. the vehicle has 38,000 miles and all drives have driven manual transmissions in excess of 100,000 miles on previous vehicles. internet research has disclosed many other owners with exact similar treatment and problem. *ak
Dt*: the contact stated while shifting from fourth to fifth gear at 55 mph, the clutch made a grinding noise and malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. upon inspection, the dealership replaced the transmission and the clutch. although the problem reoccurred, no additional repairs were made. the manufacturer was alerted.
Less than one month after work was done to my shift bezel, my clutch failed. was 3 months over warranty. tried to go to mediation two times, never recieved a return call. sent a certified letter, and finally after 8 months, i am being offered a 50% refund on the $1911.00 i was charged to fix. i have researched online, and this has happened to hundreds of people, some multiple times. found documentation stating hyundai is aware of the probelm.
While driving a loud banging noise was heard from underneath the vehicle. then, vehicle stalled and the driver tried to restartit. vehicle would not move, it was towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced the clutch. *ak
There were no events leading up to failure. driving to work and everything was normal then stopped at a stop light and the car did not want to accelerate and go through the intersection at a normal speed. dealership explained that the clutch went out and possibly the fly wheel. (fly wheels are covered under warranty. the dealership is saying it is not and that there is a "hydrolic clutch" in the car and is normal to go out with out any prior notification.) my car is still sitting at the dealership and is not being fixed due to a discrepency regarding warranty and due to what i feel is a safety issue with a part in the car giving out with out notification. (was also given an examply by someone at corporate that when your breaks fail they do not give warning which i know is not true because you will hear a screaming sound.) i also only have around 30,600 miles on the car and the clutch and fly wheel should not have gone out that soon.
Problem with clutch. i brought in my hyundai 2003 tiburon 5 speed standard for service because clutch started to have problems after 890 miles ( hot smell ) , then again around 8000 miles for shudder problems , also stoped in to dealer several times to talk to them and have them road test ( said could not reproduce problem ) again around 22000 miles for major shudder problems and hard to shift ( had to replace pressure plate / clutch / flywheel / throw out bearing / clutch master cylinder ). *ak
Vehicle equipt with low profile sports tires. while driving on sr2 in jeruselum township ohio i lost control of the vehicle and began skidding on black ice. anti-lock brakes did not engage to my knowledge and $9000 damage was done to the vehicle. rear axle failed during the impact into an embankment which absorbed much of the impact. side airbag deployed as designed but front did not. i am assuming that this is due to me sliding backwards up the embankment without any direct frontal impact. i walked away from it but am concerned about the fact that hyundai has marketed this car towards the younger "invinvible" generation who do not realize these tires aren't made for fast driving in bad weather. i am also concerned about why the antilock brakes did not engage. the car is at brown automotive and is still awaiting repair. i have informed the insurance company about the brakes and will follow up with this report when i get word.*ak
I have a 2003 gt v6 hyundai tiburon with 20440 miles on it. the clutch and gear have gone out. the dealer will not replace and wants to charge $1800.00 for repairs. *ak
Clutch went out at 5,000 miles and 3 months old. dealer will not honor warranty. says driving clutch wrong? cost $2,000.*ak
Hyundai tiburon with 6 speed and six cylinder engine experienced clutch and flywheel failure when going over bridge. loss of momentum could have caused accident. vehicle has only 21000 miles on it and i am a safe driver with 37 years experience. no other vehicle that i drove had a clutch failure before 100,000 miles. *la
My son was driving my 2003 hyundai tiburon and when he came to a traffic light, he pushed in the clutch and heard a loud pop. the clutch quit working. i took it to the dealer and they said the clutch is only warranteed for 12,000 miles. i have 21,000 miles on the car. this was not explained to me when i bought the car. it was supposed to have a 5 year "bumper to bumper" warranty. *ak
The clutch of our '03 tiburon v6 (6-spd) burnt out at 10000 miles ... neither i nor my wife who drove the car 99% of the time are the "racing type" ... yet the dealership (huffines hyundai of plano, tx) was quick to blame us for it ... they were willing to service it even after much chastizing ... the new clutch felt great on day one but by day 30, even with extreme "babying" of the clutch given how we were insulted, we could see how the clutch was starting to "act up" ... it has been a few months now where i am just waiting for that thing to "burn out" again ... we have had many vehicles and most of them with manual transmissions and i have never ever seen such poor parts and workmanship. hyundai should finally just bite the bullet, recall the vehicles and put in the appropriate parts. the existing clutch is obviously not able to handle the torque (oh, let's not forget they had _over_estimated the engine's output and we didn't find out until months after we purchased it!).*ak
03 tiburon gtv6 6 speed - second clutch system broke at 15228 miles. after making a right hand turn i was unable to put the shift stick into third gear. same as the first time this happened without any warning. second, clutch system was replaced at no cost. dealer kept car for 14 days. first clutch - first time this happened, the trans locked up at 7180 miles. i was driving on the 101 freeway and broked down on the the left shoulder near the center divider. chp said that i was in an unsafe position and had to push my car via patrol car over to the right hand shoulder. the first clutch was also replaced at no charge by dealer.*ak
At about 3 months or 7,000 the clutch went out on the car requiring a new clutch. we continued to have problems & replaced the clutch again at the beginning of 2005. now the clutch goes completely to the floor and the car still moves. i will take it back to the dealer again for diagnostic. but i do believe there is a problem with the clutch or transmission. *jb
On july 04 2003, we purchased a 2003 new hyundai tiburon from philpott motors in nederland. the vin[xxx]. it started on dec 19, 20031 when the passenger window motor had to be replaced under warranty. then, on dec. 22, 20031 the vehicle had a coolant leak that was repaired under warranty. on february 16, 2004 the clutch went out all of a sudden with any warning. to april of 2003. in which all the parts they replaced have a production date of april 2003. in august of 2004 seven months later the clutch went out again on ih10 during noon traffic they would not cover it. the mechanic at transmission exchange told him that was not the case and that he stated that the slave cylinder was probably bent prior to their repairs six months ago. my complaint to philpott that if they agreed to cover the slave cylinder why would they not cover all the charges due to the fact this is a pull/push and if the salve cylinder was bent that it would cause this type of damage to the clutch. they refused to cover it costing $1,920.85. on september 16, 2005 the battery went out. . in august of 2005 the battery went out again. on the last week of august my daughter brought the vehicle to be serviced and asked why the air bag light was on and the technician told her the car was fine that he did not note any problems and that the light was on because it was telling her that everything was working. on september 05, the clutch started slipping again and we have parked the vehicle. everyone has been told the exact line. it was the driver and it's a wear and tear item. like the dealers have been told what update: the hyundai rep stated that there was not any abnormal wear on my clutch that the flywheel was the problem and that we would have to pay to have it fixed because, the flywheel is not covered under the warranty. *jb updated 07/18/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Clutch failure in a hyundia, tiburon with only 15,000 miles of use. *ak
After 15,000 miles, my new 2003 hyundai tiburon's clutch failed to engage on interstate 76. the service reps at hyundai insists the clutch failure is due to not driving the hydraulic clutch properly. i have driven a clutch for seven years and never has one needed to be replaced, especially after only 15,000 miles. the service rep at hyundai even stated that it would probably fail again in another 15,000 miles. meanwhile, the warranty on the clutch only lasted up until 12,000 miles. performing a search on this issue, i have found there are a number of 2003 hyundai tiburon owners with clutches that have failed in 15,000 miles or less. i would like this item to be recalled so all owners can have their expenses reimbursed. *la
No events lead up to the failures. all failures have happened in rush hour traffic and has left owner stranded on the interstate. dealer refused to cover 3 of the repairs which, cost us 2,000 each failure. nothing has been done to correct the failure. the old parts are available if needed. this vehicle has been a recurring nightmare and is a money pit. *jb
35k miles and i am told clutch/flywheel is shot, no covered because it may be abused. i have driven a manual my whole adult life and never replaced a clutch. this shold covered under hyundai warr. i have a stack of info against them almost 2inches high and corp says it is up to the service guy.*ak
There have been several people with clutch problems who own the 2003 hyundai tiburon gt v6 5 and 6 speed transmissions. hyundai refuses to acknowledge this problem and replace the clutch's on those vehicles affected. the clutch is wearing prematurely well before the 12 year 12000 mile warranty ends to cover such problems. this is a safety risk for the following reasons. 1. vehicle fails to move on a highway. 2. vehicle breaks down in a remote area where assistance would be hard to get. 3. vehicle fails to operate properly leaving motorist stranded. *la
A few months after i got the car, back in may 2003, the clutch has been horrible. i have complained to the dealership many times and they never find anything wrong. it slips all the time, sometimes won't disengage, which could really cause an accident. alot of times it won't go into gear even though the clutch is pushed all the way in. *nm
The clutch and flyweel are defective. have had to be replaced twice and the third one is going bad again. 1st failure was on 5/12/2003 at 6152 miles. 2nd failure was on 6/30/2003 at 10291 miles. this problem is happening to many owners of the 2003 tiburon gt, v6, 6speed versions. *ak
