This vehicle was involved in a fire while sitting in the driveway. the fire originated in the rear of the vehicle possibly involving the tail lights or other wiring in this area. the vehicle had not been operated for approximately 10 hours. i am the fire marshal and i have read reports of other incidents involving this type vehicle.
It drifts off left or right constantly have to redirect the steering wheel only had it for 6 days off the lot very unsafe
Our santa fe sport was parked in our drive way when the panoramic sun roof exploded from the inside outwards. shattering the glass in many little pieces. we have contacted our insurance company for replacement.
I was driving the vehicle at about 45 mph, temperature about 80 degrees f, with the sunroof closed, when suddenly the sunroof exploded. this vehicle has a panoramic sunroof. the front section exploded, sending shards of glass all over inside the vehicle. fortunately, we were able to safely pull over and call hyundai roadside assistance. unfortunately, they couldn't help us , so we vacuumed up the glass and put a tarp on the roof. vehicle is currently at the dealership where hyundai is replacing the roof under warranty. there was absolutely no object which impacted the roof; it just exploded!
1.) on april 20, 2018 stopped on a hill for a red light when the light turned green and i took my foot off the brake and put on the gas, the car went backwards. this happened on a busy city/hospital district and thankfully no one was behind us. 3.) it happened again on july 21, 2018 on a city street with no one behind us. dealership said they couldn't recreate this. 2.) when someone puts a pillow under them on the passenger seat the air bag does not work. this happens if the car is stationary and in motion.
Vehicle hesitates coming out of turns especially when surrounded by other cars.(heavy traffic) the vehicle does not accelerate when stepping on gas. this has happened in all driving modes.
I'm stopped at a street, waiting to turn on a main road. i just have a stop sign, but the cross traffic doesn't have to stop. i start to turn out when there's an opening, and my car stalls for a few seconds. sometimes it's longer, sometimes it's shorter. this has happened multiple times. it my car doesn't go quick enough, i could get hit. i've noticed this is the worst when i have it in eco mode. this exact thing happens when i'm also trying to accelerate once i've merged onto a highway. it's like my car is stopping when i'm trying to accelerate to get to the pace of the traffic on the highway.
The vehicle hesitates when coming out of turns and rolling stops when attempting to accelerate. more frequent when in eco mode, is an issue to a lesser degree in other driving modes.
I was driving down the highway about 70 mph approximately 4:45 am when i heard a loud explosion. my middle panel of my panoramic sunroof exploded causing a circular hole in the sunroof initially which eventually caused the entire middle panel to break a part. there were no motor vehicles around me at the time. i have attached the repairs for my automobile.
The santa fe sport's blind spot detection system does not work as advertised. over 50% of the time the bsd does not pick up vehicles in the blind spot. the amazing thing is the bsd consistently does not detect large vehicles; like semi-trucks, dump trucks, school buses, and panel trucks. the santa fe sport has been to the dealership twice to have the system checked out. both times the dealership said that nothing was found wrong with the system. the sensors were checked for errors and calibrated both times. both times we were told that there was nothing wrong, even though both a salesman and mechanic verified that the bsd system does not consistently work. upon further questioning at the dealership, the hyundai district office was contacted. the official response from hyundai was the system is working as designed. the technical service bulletin 16-be-009 was referenced as an explanation for the system. this was released in december 2016. what hyundai is saying is they designed, tested, and manufactured a safety system that is not reliable and does not do its intended safety function.
Backup camera goes dark during operation, usually right after turning on the car. this can cause an accident if the driver can not see while backing up.
Panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded at 75 mph on the interstate, no other vehicles around, no overpasses, no existing cracks. sounded like a shotgun and startled me so early in the morning, and i almost ran off the road. had there been vehicles or trucks in the other lane i would have swerved into them. tempered glass and tiny shards of glass rained down on me and were covering the car, as well as my skin. covered in glass and a little blood and still shaking, i had to drive 40 minutes to the dealership where they told me i had to file an insurance claim and they would not replace it otherwise. this is a definite problem after researching it with hundreds of similar cases. nice weather, no cause, other than manufacturer defect. if i had wrecked or my child had been in the car, this could have been very bad. still finding pieces of glass in the console and under head rests months after.
