While stopped at a freeway off ramp. the car automatically shut off the engine per the start/stop feature. when the light turned green the car did not restart and instead completely shut off and put itself into park. i had trouble restarting while traffic built up behind me. this is not the first time this has happened. it is a very dangerous and disconcerting problem.
On january 13th, i left my home to pick up my son, julian, 3 years old, at preschool. his preschool is approximately 3 miles from our home. i picked him up, and drove the same distance back to our house, arriving home around 4:45pm. i had no unusual warning notifications or any unusual experience driving to and from the preschool. i parked the car in our driveway. julian and i exited the vehicle, and walked to our front door. as we approached the front door i smelled smoke, and looked back at the car. i noticed a small flicker in the passenger side lower headlight. upon closer look, i realized this was in fact a flame. julian and i left our bags on the porch, stepped off of our front porch, and moved away from the house and car, and called 911. as we waited for the fire department, we watched this small flame grow to full flames, engulfing the engine, front hood, and front of the car. the police and fire department arrived, and put out the fire. the car was towed out of our driveway. a police report was filed with the montclair police dept. officer anthony swan #232 patrol division montclair police headquarters, 647 bloomfield ave., montclair nj 07042 [email protected] report # 20-005325 i then called our insurance provider, usaa, following the incident. they have taken the car into their possession and initiated an origin & cause investigation. we purchased the car new. we have not been in a collision. the car has been serviced twice annually. it was serviced last week. it has ~30,000 miles on it. the dealer that sold us the car, paul miller honda, in nj, has been unresponsive, telling us to reach out the the national honda office. i have filed a case with honda, and have been told someone will reach out to me. that has not happened.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda pilot. while operating the vehicle, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to heather cannon honda (3415 n 14th st., ponca city, ok) where it was diagnosed that an emissions system upgrade was needed and five of the six fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 86,000.
Car brakes by itself, shakes the steering wheel and shuts off and loses power ranging in speeds from 20 -60mph. on double lane roads to interstates in the rain and sunny dry days.
Twice now my 2016 honda pilot elite with auto idling stop feature has stalled at intersection lights. while stopped at the red light the engine goes off and normally when i lift my foot off the brake it restarts and accelerates when i push the gas pedal. however, in these instances when i lifted my foot off the brake and went to accelerate, the engine completely stalled. a couple of warning lights came on, unfortunately i didn't read which ones because i was at busy intersections. the car would not start even after putting it into park. it took about 2 minutes before the engine would start. other drivers were trying to get around me, honking. the 2nd time, i was going to make a left turn and just had to wait until i could start it, watching in my rear view mirror hoping i wouldn't get rear-ended. i drive 75+ miles to work on a very busy and slow moving california freeway with lots of stop and go traffic. i am very concerned about our safety if this were to happen on a busy freeway where drivers don't realize i am dead in the water. i called american honda and they advised me to get it into a dealer right away. i got an appointment for this am at 0700 but as of now (11:30am) haven't heard a word. they are charging me $125 just to run diagnostics despite the fact i have an extended warranty. the service person had a definite "could care less attitude". after reading on this website and others, this is happening a lot and honda doesn't seem to have an answer. this is the 2nd major issue with this car. the last issue involved my car basically shutting down on the freeway at 70mph, going into a lower gear, every possible warning light on the dash lit up. had to drive one mile on the shoulder to get it off the freeway. this happened twice to me and a "computer patch was done". it seems fixed but now i am not sure at all what is going on with this car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda pilot. after purchasing the vehicle from an unknown used car lot and traveling 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. also, the emissions and transmission failure indicators illuminated. the voice command instructed the contact to pull over as soon as possible as the vehicle completely shut off and lost braking and steering ability. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle; however, the emissions indicator was still illuminated. the vehicle was driven back to the used car lot, but they were not able to replicate the failure. the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the nearest dealer. the vehicle was taken to autonation honda spokane valley (8201 east sprague ave, spokane valley, wa 99212), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was currently at the dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Vehicle continues to completely shut down (engine completely turning off, all lights turning on in console, requiring vehicle to be placed in park and then ignition button pressed to restart engine.) when stopping at a redlight. continues to get worse and more frequent. took to dealer and they say nothing is wrong. please fix this! my families safety is top concern@
While stopped at a traffic light the car put itself into park without my (the driver) knowledge. when the light turned green i attempted to accelerate however the car was in park. i attempted to shift the car into drive and it would not do so. i had to turn the car off and then back on in order to place the car into drive and proceed through the intersection.
Previous complaint nhtsa id 11111894 submitted 7/17/18. for car stalling after entering into auto idle stop. replaced battery in august 2018 and didn't have any problems until now. has happened at least 3 times now in sept. and oct 2019.. at first, radio or dvd player would cut out but has progressed to full on stalling after entering auto idle stop. same problem as before and all other complaints. after car goes into idle stop, it does not restart after take foot off brake. have to put car in park, press brake, and push start button to get it to restart. can take several tries and several minutes.
2016 pilot does at red lights when it goes into hybrid/idle mode. car takes several minutes to restart.
Car turns off completely while driving, does not respond to attempts to restart right away
The honda pilot has a feature called auto engine idle stop. to meet emission standards, this feature puts the engine into a stop/off mode when you brake for more than 3 seconds. however, this feature sometimes causes the car battery to fail and the car to stall. this could happen when stopped at a traffic light or on a highway stopped in traffic. if the battery hasn't had enough time to recharge, the car might stall and need to be completely shutdown, wait a while and maybe will restart. we bought our car in late 2015. the issue presented itself by 2016/2017, mostly as brief blips and the car would restart. in summer 2018, after repeated visits to honda and numerous times of the car completely stalling at traffic lights, we chose to replace the battery. our honda service centers kept telling us that the battery tests showed it was fine and that the feature isn't suppose to engage if the battery doesn't have "enough juice" to restart. but clearly, that doesn't work, because my car would indeed completely stall and need to try to restart. i once had to wait five minutes stuck at a light in the middle of a 3 lane road, and my car finally restarted. but once we paid to replace the battery (that supposedly was fine), the car didn't blip or stall. but one year later, it started happening again. sometimes the car will just blip, where all the lights, radio and air conditioning will briefly cut out and then come back on as the feature re-engages the engine. but sometimes, it just won't restart. there is a button you can hit to disable the auto engine idle stop feature. but you must remember to hit every time you start the car. if you forget, all it takes is stopping at one traffic light and the car could stall. there are numerous online reports of similar issues with this feature.
Our honda pilot shuts down while being operated, typically while attempting to resume driving after having been stopped at intersections, making turns, red lights, etc. all electrical components become unresponsive, including starter, shift controller, hazard lights, etc. typically takes to 5 minutes to restart, leaving us stranded in traffic; an incredibly dangerous situation. this has occurred (5 times so far) with the "auto engine idle stop" engaged and is suspect. 1st attempt by dealer to diagnose & repair involved replacing the battery despite testing "good". shutdowns continued; the last occurred in a 5-lane highway with my wife and 3-year old child on board. 2nd attempt to diagnose & repair, took 4 weeks and a suggested repair of replacing the battery (previous battery less than a year old) and a new starter @ $1,600; even though the technician stated both were "good". conversations with the dealership/technicians acknowledge the suspected problem electrical/computer based but the on-board computer does not record these events. the dealership/technicians state they reported and researched this issue via their in-house tech site but we were told this issue is unknown and isolated to our car. our solution being a mutually acknowledge, unnecessary repair. i debated their $1,600 "solution" and questioned warranty coverage and was informed if not done, would be recorded as "customer refuses repair". when i asked if the $1,600 would be refunded when the issue resumed (since well agreed the suggested repair was not the solution), i was informed "no". we have not done the repair. a simple internet search shows this is not an isolated problem as we were told and is even recorded here on the nhtsa website numerous times, verbatim to our experience.
I bought this vehicle as a "certified pre owned by honda" and four days after the purchase the car was parked in my driveway, in "park" when i hit the start/stop engine button and the vehicle didn't start. alarms started to go off so i assumed it was the key was still inside the house. as i went inside to check, maybe a few seconds, when i went back outside the vehicle was gone. i found it in my front yard. it had rolled off while in park without engine on. after getting it towed to honda, days later i was informed that there was a problem with the start/stop engine system and that it also needed the entire a/c system replaced. attached you will find the photo i took of the vehicle still in park when i found it in my front yard.
Car won't start. keyless start system problem
While idol at red light, the automatic idol kicked in for power save yet jerked and all red light indicators turned on, including parking breaks, and car seized up. no power, no ability put car in park or drive. on/off switch no reaction to turn car on or off. no brake function. i sat in an unresponsive vehicle at very busy intercetion. luckily the vehicle behind me was stopped and only laid on their horn for 2 red light cycles rather than hitting me. i activated my emergency flashers yet other driver did not respond. i repetitively kept pushing power button in effort for car to respond and restart, eventually did and was able to drive off. have appt with dealership in am.
When driving in eco mode the car shuts partially down at red lights and other stops as is expected, but lights, radio, ac., etc still function. every 5 or 6th time my car now shuts off completely and requires me to restart it.
When my car stops while applying the break paddle completely, the car may start 'idle stop' which turns off the engine. the engine may restart either by releasing the break paddle or when ac or battery needs the engine to turn back on. we have had multiple occurrences where the car will completely reset the electrical system shutting down all the lights, displays, radio and engine, and it may or may not restart the engine. sometimes, it requires multiple presses of the engine start button which may take multiple seconds at a stop. this creates a safety hazard where cars behind may rear end us while we try to restart. today, it happened to my wife in motion after the engine restarted and she was in the middle of an intersection. i wonder if this could even happen on a railway... we reported it twice and tried fixing it at a honda shop (1st texas honda @ austin, tx), they made multiple claims including bad battery that required replacing it (issue still reoccurred), blaming it on a power cable that goes to an optional trailer hitch connection that is not in use, but have not tried tried replacing the faulty idle start/engine module. searching thru the internet, there are multiple reports of the same issue. https://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/pilot/2016/engine/auto_idle_stop_does_not_work.shtml there is no recall or a root cause analysis reported by honda trying to resolve the issue for the owners. needless to say, trying to take a video/photo when it happens is not simple, largely, because we don't hold our phones while driving the car and secondly, it's random event when it happens... the issue repeats multiple times a week, but not on every stop. worse at hot temperatures.
My honda pilot will stall out when coming out of the auto start/stop feature at an intersection. this problem started happening in july 2019 after having the transmission double replaced. this problem has now happened four different times and extremely dangerous for my wife and kids who are left stranded at an intersection. my wife has to attempt to recycle the power to the pilot by holding down the power button to the pilot. my wife has captured multiple videos of the dash with all the error messages popping up after it has died.
Car shuts down and stalls when idle stop engages very frequently over the past year in the middle of the intersection or highway. have taken in to honda dealers multiple times but they cannot recreate the problem and say the battery tests ok yet recommend changing the battery?!
Several times while stopped in traffic or at a traffic light the engine stop feature has not worked properly. the engine turns off completely and does not automatically restart. the suv has to be placed in park and restarted manually. i plan on bringing it in next week to have them look into it.
The engine idle stop feature not working properly. when the vehicle is at a stop the engine turns off like intended. sometimes the radio turns off and restarts immediately. randomly when you take you foot off the gas the entire vehicle and all functions turn off. in order to turn the vehicle you need to press the ignition button and set the vehicle in park. this is very dangerous in stop and go traffic. the most recent time it happened was on the freeway at a crest. took it to dealer and they could not replicate.
This has happened several times and honda has been unable to replicate. it has happened on the freeway and on city streets. the car is in drive and my car has an engine idle so that when traffic comes to a halt the engine cuts out to conserve gas. on many a occasion it will not just automatically start but will instead kick the vehicle into park. it is extremely scary as it will then not start as if the battery is dead but the battery if fine and has been replaced as honda thought that would resolve it. they also replaced all the fuel injectors and this also has not stopped the problem. i feel i am going to be killed in this car. i have case # 08783155 with honda and after having just spoke to them they advised me to film problem!! yes they expect me to get my phone out and film while my vehicle has come to a halt in moving traffic!
2016 honda pilot , 68441 miles on it. emissions system problem displayed on dash. service advises it needs a software update and that there will be a charge for it. complaint filed with honda. customer should not be charged for software updates that the manufacturer failed to get right. imagine if you had to pay for every update that microsoft issues? software update did not correct problem and will not be refunding money spent. if anything, it should be covered under warranty.
Car was engaged in "idle-stop" at a traffic light. following driver's lifting of foot off of the brake pedal, car shut off completely. all dashboard lights lit up, and car was not able to be turned back on for 1-2 minutes. car was in the middle of a busy street, and a large vehicle nearly rear-ended the dead car. driver was thereafter able to follow on-screen instructions for restarting vehicle, but was unsuccessful in several initial attempts. (in other words, car was not starting despite driver's complying with instructions. prior to this incident, car had in some instances very momentarily "cut out" following an "idle-start." driver noticed a "popping" at this time. but the problem, which the manufacturer and dealer claim to know nothing about and are "unable to replicate" during service, is clearly becoming worse and more dangerous over time. the best the honda dealership service department appears to be able to do in diagnosing the problem is to suggest battery recharge or replacement, which has not been an issue for our car and is apparently a common suggestion from dealerships. this is an apparently bigger issue than honda has been willing to admit.
When engine auto idle is engaged, instead of re-engaging when foot removed from brake, the car stalls in one of three ways. grade 1, the fan and radio shut off but the engine engages once gas is applied. grade 2, the fan, radio and engine shut off but restart once gas is applied. various warning lights then appear on the dash. grade 3, everything shuts off and the car will not restart until you shift into park and press the start button several times. this is very dangerous as it happens at intersections when cars expect you to be moving and you're stalled out. i have video of these incidents and have provided them to the honda dealer.
Car will stall when stopped with the auto-engine idle engaged. first started with radio cutting out when engine was restarting. progressed to stalling when engine idle is engaged and foot is taken off the brake - car will jolt and then stall. it switched to neutral and must be put back in park and the start button pressed multiple times to get it to restart - can take a few minutes. very dangerous at busy intersections. car was checked by dealer and found no problems. next day the collision mitigation system problem light came on permanently and car stalled at lights twice more. car is back at the dealer now but they still can't find anything wrong.
The engine fully stopped while driving on the hwy while driving almos got rear ended. i was moving tapped the break and the engine stopped ( like in idle) i quickly pushed on the gas and after seconds of no response it came back. on 9/2/2018 this happened when i was going tjru paying toll i touched the break trying to slow down it completly died, tried to push gas no response died and went in n. had to turn it on amd drive again. at that time went to dealer amd they did not see an issue. it is happenening more now. it is frightening to be under the mercey of tje peraon behind u to slow down in time. this is horroble very scary and can kill a family!
We have had several issues but the most pressing is that the car will suddenly stop responding under acceleration. this has happened 3 times once very nearly caused a very bad accident with a big rig whilst we were entering a freeway. the car will suddenly not respond to throttle the gauges seem to reset and then the car will go. similar to how the auto stop idle function works except we were not stopped we were under acceleration. we have also had several instances where the vehicle will not start after the idle stop has activated at a traffic light forcing us to turn off the vehicle and then restart it. we have take the car to the dealer several times but they have been unable to recreate the issue and assure us that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle... beyond the problems listed above the car frequently has electrical safety issues with the auto brake and collision detection, i cant even count the number of times that the car has suddenly braked out of no where, no obstacles or anything to trigger it, just decides we need to brake. these "safety features" should really be reviewed and tested better before being put into a production vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda pilot. while driving at approximately 60 mph, the rpm increased to high and vehicle accelerated spontaneously. the vehicle went into limp mode. additionally, the vehicle shifted roughly from first to second and third to fourth gears. the emission, transmission, lane assist, towing and power steering warning lights were illuminated. the vehicle was taken to holm automotive center (2005 n buckeye ave, abilene, ks 67410 (785) 263-4000) where the codes were reset but not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was taken to little apple toyota (3002, 2828 amherst ave a, manhattan, ks 66502(785) 539-7441) where it was informed that the failure was unable to be duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted the failure mileage was 60,000.
I have a 2016 touring pilot with just over 38,000 miles. since about 25,000 miles i have felt that there was an odd hesitation with the auto-off feature that i'd not noticed during the initial period of ownership. the issue escalated to the point which it would actually stall out at an intersection and the vehicle would not turn back on for a few minutes. the dealership replaced the battery and said that they could see the error and that there was an issue caused by the battery. a few months later the issue started to happen again and stalled for my wife again with our kids in the car at a busy intersection. the car went back into the dealership and they have now had it for close to 6 weeks with little to no update as to what is going on. this is a horribly unsafe issue and i know for a fact that many people are having the same issue as referenced in this blog: https://www.piloteers.org/forums/114-2016-third-generation-pilot/157005-elite-shuts-off-stop-light-5.html the fact that honda can not come up with a fix for the issue is a very scary thought. we as consumers need someone to help hold honda accountable to provide a safe driving experience for our families.
There is a gasoline smell inside the car and outside i dont see any leaking but the smell is making me worry
Auto idle stop doesn't restart. it stalls often depending on the length of the idle. it has been slowing progressing to unreliable. it stops entirely, often in traffic and then you have to put car in park, restart engine and then put in drive and go again. by this time traffic is already moving around you. very dangerous and scary on freeway and at intersections. had the battery checked at auto store, take in for regular maintenance - it tested strong but needed a "charge" should be recharging when running and on freeway.
My vehicle has multiple system error messages that have come on and off when turning on the car and some have became much more frequent and remain on while driving. 1. keyless starting system error- happens frequently when vehicle is turned on and remains on while driving. 2. antilock brake system error- when vehicle is powered on and remains on for about 20 mins after driving vehicle and returns when car is powered on. 3. charging system error- was coming on occasionally and as of today has came on every time the vehicle is powered on and remains on while driving. 4. brake system problem- occasionally comes on when car is powered on and comes off after driving vehicle. also, the most recent issues i've had was the driver seat does not warm up when seat warmer is turned on and while driving the vehicle at approximately 30mph vehicle begins to jerk as if it is struggling to drive. these problems have become much more frequent and have become a safety concern for me and my children.
When engine tries to restart from idle stop the engine stalls and fails to restart. has done this numerous times and the dealer can not replicate the issue. is a danger while at a busy intersection. radio also turns off when trying to restart. this happens almost every time the vehicle goes into idle stop mode.
The first incident was on oct 7, 2018. we were at a stop light with the engine idle option enabled. when the light turned green and the brake was released, the vehicle should have started back up, but instead, it stalled. after the 2nd time it occurred, we started to disable the engine idle feature as soon as we start the car. we have forgotten a few times and the vehicle stalling has happened at least 3 additional times. all being at red lights with the brake depressed. when the foot is removed from the brake, the vehicle jerks slightly and then stalls. once on nov. 1, 2018 and again most recently on jan. 6, 2018. luckily, no one has been injured yet. it has been serviced regularly at the dealership directly and received all maintenance recommended. the most recent service, they were unable to duplicate the error or identify the issue.
On 2 occasions, the automatic idle stop has turned off the engine and not allowed the car to be turned back on. one time the vehicle eventually restarted, but the second time the vehicle had to be jumped by highway patrol. it was at a busy interstate exit ramp, stopped at a stoplight, and we were unable to move the vehicle out of the way. it was a very dangerous situation. we had the battery tested and it was good. i contacted honda via email and they just responded that there were no recalls and to contact the dealer. the dealer said that they are unable to permanently disable the feature. now, to ensure that i am not in another dangerous situation due to this feature, i have to manually disable it every time i turn the car on.
I was driving in stop and go traffic on a freeway, my foot was on the brake and car was in drive, when i took my foot off break and pushed gas pedal the car would not go. i tried to put it in park and it would not go, i tried to turn off car and it wouldn't turn off. the message on the dashboard said to push brake and turn on car (same message as when i remote start car) after 2 solid minutes, the car finally drove. the problem seems to be impacted by the econ mode which shuts off engine when brake pedal is fully engaged. you are able to turn this mode off on the gear shift but have to do it every time you start the car.
2016 honda pilot a/c grinding noise after activated at cold start after more than 36-48 hours parked. when a/c activated while driving vehicle belt system slips and pulls forward loosing speed. a/c compressor damage confirmed by dealer and honda confirmed and acknowledged problem due to severe loop on the a/c suction hose design on this model causing issues with the oil flow. issue found at 12,444 miles and current mileage 17,874 .ongoing issue since 2016. no fix at the moment according to honda. according to this there's an issue with the clutch engagement which explains the loss of power on the belt system.
When trying to start vehicle you receive 'keyless start system problem'. taken to the dealer twice and not able to diagnose the issue. vehicle has 49000 miles today and have had this intermittent issue since 42000 miles. fob batteries have both been replaced and supposedly reprogrammed. still unable to resolve. let me know if and how you were able to resolve the issue.
Keyless start system error - the car won't start and this is the error message that pops up.
Vehicle turns off completely when auto off feature engages while in a stopped condition. on two occasions, vehicle refused to restart for several minutes. the first time, the vehicle restarted after 2-3 minutes, the second time it happened, car would not restart until 10-15 min after the occurrence. during both occurrences, i was in a stop condition with foot on the brake, vehicle in drive. dealer says battery tests fine and cannot replicate the issue, but i know there are others experiencing same problem. this is a major safety issue. only out of shear luck, it happened to me while at a residential gate key pad punching in the code, and then today while in the drive thru of a fast food place. if this would happen on a busy street, at a busy intersection, while sitting in standstill traffic on interstate, etc, it could be extremely dangerous.
Honda pilot 2016 model with 30000 miles has stalled on highway interstate suddenly within 2 min of signalling messages of engine temperature too hot, transmission system problem, emission system problem etc...and went into neutral mode with failure of brakes. car would not respond to brakes as it went to neutral state. also noticed a burning or gasoline smell inside the car . i had to apply parking brake to stop the vehicle from moving on highway which could have led to a major crash. as i was not on the speeding lanes, things were not worse. i had to call 911 and they helped me move my car to a shoulder and later towed to honda dealership. this was the second time happening for the same issue where earlier it happened on a local road. the same dealer kept the car for a week and returned the car saying its fixed.within 30 min of driving into the highway, it stalled again this time the situation being on highway. the car is now returned to same dealer who fixed first time and is under investigation.
Vehicle randomly does not automatically restart after auto idle stop engages when in stop-go traffic on freeway or when stopped at intersection, resulting in a stalled vehicle in the middle of freeway or intersection. attempts to manually restart the vehicle generally successful after frantically (or slowly!) pushing the start-stop button several times. video documenting issue available at https://1drv.ms/v/s!aqy6pdpsaknnnn5fxrz2ngstmnd0cg (additional videos available). issue ongoing since ~ october 2018. dealer has replaced battery & engine start-stop button to no avail.
Auto stop malfunction first year of owning the pilot elite, the auto stop function worked and would restart after coming to a stop. by the second year, after coming to a stop in city traffic and engine is supposed to come back on, it stalls and shuts off and needs to be shifted to neutral and then restart engine. have taken the car for services since having this issue and reporting the issue to the dealership and they are unable to fix the issue or replicate the problem. now into year 3 of ownership the auto stop function has gotten worse because now when it shuts off after auto stopping, it takes a couple of minutes before you are able to restart the car. this is very unsafe at an intersection when the light turns green. only way around this issue is to disable the auto stop function at the beginning of the drive which defeats the purpose of having such a function and we aren't able to permanently disable the function. i have reported this problem each and every time i have taken it in to the dealership for service and they have run diagnostics and said they weren't able to replicate the issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda pilot. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when attempting to drive. also, while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was not able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. while in traffic, the vehicle restarted independently after ten minutes and was able to drive normally. the vehicle was taken to honda cars of katy (21001 katy fwy, katy, tx 77450) where it was diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 08934725. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
This vehicle stalls when the brake is depressed. the engine should restart when your foot comes off the brake. it does not restart. in order to restart the engine, the vehicle has to be put in park position, put foot back on brake, & hold the start button until the vehicle restarts. this is a serious safety issue in traffic.
The car continually stalls at red lights and other full stops after the "auto-shutoff" engages. the car fails to restart and results in dangerous situations in high traffic areas in the city. the car can not be moved easily because it becomes completely unresponsive, even disabling the flashers. it has happened repeatedly.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda pilot. while the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the "auto idle disabler" feature engaged on several occasions. the vehicle stalled without warning after the brake pedal was depressed at a stop light. three weeks later, while driving approximately 15 mph on the freeway, the "auto idle disabler" feature engaged again while in heavy traffic and the vehicle stalled. the contact shifted the gear into park, disabled the power, and restarted the vehicle. in addition, while the vehicle was stationary, all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. while driving 55 mph, on another occasion, the vehicle failed to shift gears properly and the rpms rapidly increased to 5,000. also, the reverse gear shifter became inoperative and the gears would not shift while driving 55 mph. big star honda (11200 gulf freeway, houston, texas 77034) could not diagnose and duplicate the failures. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000. *dt *js
