We have classified the 170 complaints from 2016 Honda Pilot about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Keyless start system problem warning continues to come up in my 2016 pilot from talking with multiple honda pilot owners it seems as though the switch (engine start/stop) being installed are faulty.
Warning light says "keyless start system problem". i see it's a common problem based on www.piloteers.com group
The engine idle stop feature not working properly. when the vehicle is at a stop the engine turns off like intended. sometimes the radio turns off and restarts immediately. randomly when you take you foot off the gas the entire vehicle and all functions turn off. in order to turn the vehicle you need to press the ignition button and set the vehicle in park. this is very dangerous in stop and go traffic. the most recent time it happened was on the freeway at a crest. took it to dealer and they could not replicate.
The keyless start system error has come on recently and goes on and off intermittently. i have changed the battery in the key fobs and the error still comes up. after researching the problem i have learned that several other people have had this problem and in a lot of cases the vehicle will shut down during operation due to the problem. this is a major manufacturer defect that could lead to great bodily injury and /or death. this problem needs to be investigated and and remedied. there have been several complaints through nhtsa about this same problem.
This has happened several times and honda has been unable to replicate. it has happened on the freeway and on city streets. the car is in drive and my car has an engine idle so that when traffic comes to a halt the engine cuts out to conserve gas. on many a occasion it will not just automatically start but will instead kick the vehicle into park. it is extremely scary as it will then not start as if the battery is dead but the battery if fine and has been replaced as honda thought that would resolve it. they also replaced all the fuel injectors and this also has not stopped the problem. i feel i am going to be killed in this car. i have case # 08783155 with honda and after having just spoke to them they advised me to film problem!! yes they expect me to get my phone out and film while my vehicle has come to a halt in moving traffic!
I have a 2016 honda pilot touring. 6 months ago, the auto idle stop feature began to malfunction. there are times when the car will not restart after the auto idle stop engages. i have to quickly figure out how to get the car started again while traffic is dodging me on the freeway. this has happened more than half a dozen times. the only reason it has not happened more is because i turn the 'feature' off as often as i remember. i would like a recall to permanently disable auto idle stop. the feature is dangerous. will someone have to die in an accident before honda and the nhtsa does something about this problem? there are many reported cases of this happening and honda is unable to fix it. see this thread for many more cases: https://www.piloteers.org/threads/elite-shuts-off-at-stop-light.157005/ please force honda to do something about auto idle stop!!!!
The keyless start system problem shows in error after 25k miles. the car is stationary.
Car was engaged in "idle-stop" at a traffic light. following driver's lifting of foot off of the brake pedal, car shut off completely. all dashboard lights lit up, and car was not able to be turned back on for 1-2 minutes. car was in the middle of a busy street, and a large vehicle nearly rear-ended the dead car. driver was thereafter able to follow on-screen instructions for restarting vehicle, but was unsuccessful in several initial attempts. (in other words, car was not starting despite driver's complying with instructions. prior to this incident, car had in some instances very momentarily "cut out" following an "idle-start." driver noticed a "popping" at this time. but the problem, which the manufacturer and dealer claim to know nothing about and are "unable to replicate" during service, is clearly becoming worse and more dangerous over time. the best the honda dealership service department appears to be able to do in diagnosing the problem is to suggest battery recharge or replacement, which has not been an issue for our car and is apparently a common suggestion from dealerships. this is an apparently bigger issue than honda has been willing to admit.
My vehicle received the "keyless start system problem" on the dash and has not gone away after two dealership visits and $500 later. after performing some research, this seems to be a chronic problem with most honda pilot owners. the problem occurs every time you are trying to start the vehicle.
Keyless start system problem error message: having trouble starting and turning off vehicle. have to press start button several times or hold longer. sometimes, i have to depress break and then trying again...start button light is not always on. it's taking longer and longer to start and turn off vehicle. i have been getting this message for about 7 months. i have
Keyless start system light coming on and off, automatic locks dont work anymore
My 2016 honda pilot with 61,000 miles on has recently given me the kelyess start system warning. it seems that this is a problem with pilots from this model year. it also seems that dealers do not know how to fix it. it appears many people have tried numerous things, without any luck. i do not wish to pay for the dealer to fix something that may not be fixable. what can be done about this?
Keyless start system problem began showing up on the instrument panel a few months ago. it comes and goes and lasts for different lengths of time. 2 different honda dealers/service reps have not heard of this and do not know the fix. should not have to spend upwards of $1000 for guess fixes. spoke to honda and they do not have anything for a fix either. hopefully honda will address to prevent critical issues. date with this posting is the most recent date.
When engine auto idle is engaged, instead of re-engaging when foot removed from brake, the car stalls in one of three ways. grade 1, the fan and radio shut off but the engine engages once gas is applied. grade 2, the fan, radio and engine shut off but restart once gas is applied. various warning lights then appear on the dash. grade 3, everything shuts off and the car will not restart until you shift into park and press the start button several times. this is very dangerous as it happens at intersections when cars expect you to be moving and you're stalled out. i have video of these incidents and have provided them to the honda dealer.
My 2016 honda pilot have been popping up a 'keyless start system problem' message . it happened about 3 weeks ago. it's sometimes will go away and come back the next day. it's on and off. when this issue occurs the 'walk away auto lock ' also didn't work too. i hope honda to resolve this issue by recalling the model.
As i was parking my car this morning, the keyless start system problem error popped up. i started the car again just to make sure it would start, then turned it off again and then dropped off my kids at daycare. when i started it 5 minutes later, the car started and ran fine, but the system error light continues. we recently had the pilot at the dealership because an emission error light came on and suddenly the car would not shift or accelerate properly. all three sensors were replaced (only the damaged one was covered under warranty) and the car was again running fine, but now this new error light.
Keyless start problem - could not start the engine.
Suddenly 'keyless start system problem' popped up when i put my car into park.
Keyless start system problem message showing up on screen and going away randomly. doesn't seem to be affecting start engine or anything else yet, but maybe it's a defective glitch or something.
Keyless start system problem has been popping up on my dashboard for past month while i'm driving. i have 51,000 miles on pilot. doesn't seem to affect car yet but i have read online that others are having this problem which is causing issues with car not starting. online comments suggest honda has no clear resolution on what is causing this.
Idle stop fuel saver feature causes car to stall when brake is disengage. my car has stalled numerous times. it does not allow a quick restart. it has to reset before car can restart engine. honda blogs site on this issue is numerous. this presents a hazard for car stuck in the middle of the road and in traffic conditions. please help. honda has not provided any solutions.
We have had several issues but the most pressing is that the car will suddenly stop responding under acceleration. this has happened 3 times once very nearly caused a very bad accident with a big rig whilst we were entering a freeway. the car will suddenly not respond to throttle the gauges seem to reset and then the car will go. similar to how the auto stop idle function works except we were not stopped we were under acceleration. we have also had several instances where the vehicle will not start after the idle stop has activated at a traffic light forcing us to turn off the vehicle and then restart it. we have take the car to the dealer several times but they have been unable to recreate the issue and assure us that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle... beyond the problems listed above the car frequently has electrical safety issues with the auto brake and collision detection, i cant even count the number of times that the car has suddenly braked out of no where, no obstacles or anything to trigger it, just decides we need to brake. these "safety features" should really be reviewed and tested better before being put into a production vehicle.
I've had this car stop and turn off suddenly at intersections as i was pressing on the gas to accelerate after waiting for a res light. now i'm getting an error that say 'keyless start system problem.' this happens right as i get in the vehicle and press the engine start button.
On and off, the past several months we've been getting "keyless start system problem" when attempting to start the car. sometimes i get the issue once, then it starts after that. but recently i've had to try to start the car 10+ times before it finally works. for some reason it appears to have slightly better luck after i lock the car doors. in looking at carcomplaints.com and piloteers.com, there are a ton of people with the same issue. there are multiple threads regarding the complaint, but here is one example: https://www.piloteers.org/forums/114-2016-third-generation-pilot/142385-keyless-start-system-problem-error-2.html?amp=1
Our 2016 honda pilot has the auto stop/start feature ( used for saving gas when you are at a complete stop). there has been an issue that is dangerous- as you are driving and stop at a red light, the car with engage in the stop/start , but will then just turn off the car. it then asks for you to put your car in park. when you do the car completely turns off, but then wont allow you to turn the car back on. takes around 30 seconds for the car to turn back on, but you are just sitting there with cars honking and almost rear ending your vehicle. this is happen almost every time the gas goes into the stop/start mode. it happened so much that we have now turned if off, which does help. first, i thought it was a battery issue , which we changed and nothing improved. i realize that this stop/start feature is relatively new car feature, but if there is going to be these issues- it is not safe, there needs to be an improvement to that part to prevent this. not sure if this issue is happening with other people and if people are reporting that they are worried about honda's stop/start feature
The error is keyless start problem this message stays on until car shuts off.
Sensors in ho da pilot not work correctly. example: "keyless start system problem"truns on even tho there is nothing wrong with it. this occurs when car is turned on. locks will not lock/unlock when pressing and of the buttons on driver, passenger or trunk. this occurs when car is stationary.
Keyless start system problem issue keeps popping up on dashboard
At 38000 miles the push button start began acting erratically. when the car is parked and turned off it takes 5 or 6 pushes of the break with succeeding depressions of the push start for the engine to fire up. once it does turn over, an error comes up for keyless ignition
Back up camera not working.
I have a 2016 touring pilot with just over 38,000 miles. since about 25,000 miles i have felt that there was an odd hesitation with the auto-off feature that i'd not noticed during the initial period of ownership. the issue escalated to the point which it would actually stall out at an intersection and the vehicle would not turn back on for a few minutes. the dealership replaced the battery and said that they could see the error and that there was an issue caused by the battery. a few months later the issue started to happen again and stalled for my wife again with our kids in the car at a busy intersection. the car went back into the dealership and they have now had it for close to 6 weeks with little to no update as to what is going on. this is a horribly unsafe issue and i know for a fact that many people are having the same issue as referenced in this blog: https://www.piloteers.org/forums/114-2016-third-generation-pilot/157005-elite-shuts-off-stop-light-5.html the fact that honda can not come up with a fix for the issue is a very scary thought. we as consumers need someone to help hold honda accountable to provide a safe driving experience for our families.
Error display: keyless start system problem vehicle was stationary, after started. in motion, while driving error displayed and mp/h change without accelerating to even over 100 mp/h when if fact driving about 60 mp/h.
I have a "keyless start system problem" message on and off for about 4 or 5 months, started when i had 37000 or 38000 miles. dealer will replace with only a 1 year warranty. seems like this is a problem with many pilots at the same mileage. the error message appears when the suv is started. it stays on at all times. then it will turn off after a week or so. reappears after another week or so.
Have a keyless start system problem on my 2016 honda pilot. light is on from the time you turn the vehicle on. it will occasionally go off but then reappear when the vehicle is started again. had the key fob in my pocket and the vehicle would not lock when the button on the door was pressed. had to use the remote to lock the vehicle. need to have the keyless access replaced for $500+ part is currently on back order with no eta. according to blogs other pilot owners have had the same issue could this be why the part is on back order with no eta?? overall not happy with the vehicle. have had nothing but issues.
While driving car, the panel will show "key fob not detected". when a door is opened, it will beep and display "key fob not detected"
2016 honda pilt lx, 38000 miles "keyless start system problem" light comes on every few days. the dealership told me that it was a problem with a ground wire and that they fixed it but few days after my visit the light came back up.
I have 45000 miles on a 2016 pilot ex. i recently began getting a keyless start system problem error message in the instrument cluster. engine will not start, have to constantly keep pressing the start botton and stepping foot break. also notice my "walk away lock feature" stopped working. i check online and a lot of honda pilot owner are having the same issues. please help investigate. thank you.
My 2016 honda pilot is showing the message on the dash which says that there is a problem with the keyless start system. it comes and goes from time to time, and i've changed the fob batteries with no fix. i had the vehicle back to the dealer and they said that the push button checked out ok, and suggested changing out the tpms/keyless access control unit as a possible fix. at $600.00 cost and maybe no fix, i'm not happy. many other owners have a similar problem, and its time in my opinion for honda to have a recall to remedy the issue. this issue only occurs upon starting the vehicle and stays on until shutting down the engine.
I receive a keyless start system problem error message that comes on when the car is started. i have changed the batteries in my remotes and sometimes the message goes away for a day or two. i have put a brand new battery in the car and the message went away for a day and then returned. the message comes and goes randomly.
My car intermittently gives me a warning about a "keyless start system problem," which began a couple of months ago. while i cannot detect any impact on the actual start or running of the vehicle, i'm concerned that the engine could cut out while driving which is obviously potentially unsafe or that the car won't start at some point and will leave me stranded. because the indicator goes on and off, it's difficult to have it fixed and my online research indicates that the dealers frequently have no idea what causes this problem and that it's expensive to fix. many honda owners are complaining of the same problem online.
I'm getting keyless start system problem when i googled it appears there are lot of people having this problem. i am not why honda is recalling this issue please review this issue. thank you ismail
When starting push button ignition, keyless start system problem alert appears on dashboard screen. sometimes takes several attempts to start car. honda dealership could not replicate problem and was not able to fix. problem still continues, but not every time i try to start car.
When starting my car warning on dashboard goes on 'keyless starting system problem'. i've fixed it twice already, but from what i've seen online it comes back.
Display shows remote start system problem, seems like a lot of people have the same issue, according to the internet. most say it's the start/stop switch in the dash. so far it does not seem to effect the operation of the car just always keeps the light on showing engine problem. comes on after the car is started and has been since approximately 1/19/2019
My vehicle has multiple system error messages that have come on and off when turning on the car and some have became much more frequent and remain on while driving. 1. keyless starting system error- happens frequently when vehicle is turned on and remains on while driving. 2. antilock brake system error- when vehicle is powered on and remains on for about 20 mins after driving vehicle and returns when car is powered on. 3. charging system error- was coming on occasionally and as of today has came on every time the vehicle is powered on and remains on while driving. 4. brake system problem- occasionally comes on when car is powered on and comes off after driving vehicle. also, the most recent issues i've had was the driver seat does not warm up when seat warmer is turned on and while driving the vehicle at approximately 30mph vehicle begins to jerk as if it is struggling to drive. these problems have become much more frequent and have become a safety concern for me and my children.
Error message 'keyless start system problem' this recently start happening, i have recently brought it in to the dealer and they ran a diagnosis and found no real error so they have reset the ignition switch but now it's back on.
The first incident was on oct 7, 2018. we were at a stop light with the engine idle option enabled. when the light turned green and the brake was released, the vehicle should have started back up, but instead, it stalled. after the 2nd time it occurred, we started to disable the engine idle feature as soon as we start the car. we have forgotten a few times and the vehicle stalling has happened at least 3 additional times. all being at red lights with the brake depressed. when the foot is removed from the brake, the vehicle jerks slightly and then stalls. once on nov. 1, 2018 and again most recently on jan. 6, 2018. luckily, no one has been injured yet. it has been serviced regularly at the dealership directly and received all maintenance recommended. the most recent service, they were unable to duplicate the error or identify the issue.
Keyless start system error displays on dashboard.
For a couple days when i would walk away from the car the auto lock wasn't working. it would beep once but wouldn't lock. now the keyless start system problem light keeps coming on when i start the car. it happens most of the time i drive it in the last few days. there has been about 3 times it doesn't come on. now the auto door locks work sporadically when walking away. the vehicle was stationary each time since it's just being started.
I have been getting a keyless system start error upon starting my car since 32,000 miles. it has been intermittent and the local honda dealership has been unable to correct this issue. this issue has become less intermittent as time has gone on; meaning that the problem/error message is nearly constant. i have changed the battery in both keyless remotes, but this has not corrected the issue. the dealership has tried to reset the error code and update the computer. neither of these have corrected the issue. the message did go away for a day or two, but has returned. this issue has also caused the car to no longer use the away lock system and my keyless remote does not work at times and/or the auto lock switch in the cars. this issue has happened while the car was stationary. the error message will bing as a reminder while the car is on. i have also had the message suddenly appear while driving down the road. my local dealership stated that they have notified honda of this issue, but there has been no response from honda. this issue was reported over a month ago. i am afraid that this issue may cause the vehicle to not come on or possible shut the car off while in motion. i am already apprehensive with the locks not working properly at times because of this issue.
