Nhtsa recall #14v-353 issued on 19-june-2014, within 30 days of that date my vehicle was taken to my local honda dealer who routinely performs my scheduled maintenance, i was advised at that time that the part was on order. i've been waiting for over one year and no change in availability has occurred. on 15-july-2015 i received a letter from honda automobile division in california that if american honda or my dealer has failed to remedy the defect in my vehicle "within a reasonable period of time (60 days after the date i first contacted the dealer for a repair appointment), i should then submit to the national highway traffic safety administration. considering honda has continued to manufacture this vehicle and since there does not seem to be a shortage of airbags for "new" vehicles, i find it concerning that i and many other loyal consumers should be needlessly placed in jeopardy.
We were on another summer trip and the airbag warning light came on. this is the big red light to the far left of the panel. calling honda in franklin tn they had no idea what could happen while continuing to drive the vehicle. calling another dealership they assured me that it was most likely a sensor and the airbags would simply not deploy. honda as recalls now for bad airbags. 1- our 2004 does not fall into the recall period 2 - honda should pay for any issue related to bad airbag technology regardless of how old the car is, just like they do with seat belts. if we would have been in a wreck during the time that light was on, the airbag would not have deployed. 3- any part of the airbag/sensor/ seatbelt system should not be merely covered under a limited warranty. it should be covered for the life of the car. this is a safety issue. if they cannot stand behind the safety of the car they need to get out of the business. *tr
Airbag (srs) light is on. dealer indicates vehicle needs complete srs unit total cost of $743.23 plus tax. dealer did not indicate that part was under warranty or covered by any recall. *tr
Accident on the freeway the car sped out of control hit the center divider. front and side air bags went off! the steering wheel airbags scarred the inside od my wrist.
Srs red light on. no previous collisions or airbag deployments. dealer states that srs controller needs replacement, but not covered by honda. airbags might not deploy in accident. cost prohibitive to replace srs controller in houston, tx, they want $800-$1000 to replace this safety item. calling honda customer service about premium and exploitive prices charge by their dealers in houston is of no avail. honda should take notice of this problem seriously before anyone gets injured in car crash by failure of airbag deployment. at minimum, i expect honda to offer minimum or subsidized pricing and prevent customer exploitation by their dealers. please help. *tr
While driving the front passenger airbag deactivates on its own as if a small child is sitting in the front seat, but the passenger seat is completely empty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda pilot. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 12v573000 (electrical system) and 14v700000 (air bags); however, the parts needed to perform the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Vehicle veered of the road and struck a tree, dead on the front left headlight and destroyed the bumper and front left fender, pushed the hood into the windshield, which cracked. the air bag did not deploy. bruising from seat belt. *tr
Dealer completed campaigns 14-045 and 14-046 front air bags on november 11, 2014 for our 2004 honda pilot which is located in florida. subsequently received a second airbag recall notice nhtsa 14v-700 dated january 2015, front passenger air bag. called dealer for appointment, service manager reports completion of the earlier 14-045, 46 is sufficient, not necessary to complete 14v-700. called honda america, same response. honda america would not provide written documentation, recall is still shown as open this vehicle. *tr
My 2004 honda pilot is having a srs problem for the second time. it is the part # 81334-s9v-a03 which is for the sensor under the passenger seat. the dealership stated that the airbags may not deploy with the sensor out. this is the second time this has happened for this same vehicle in 3 years. the first was in january 2008 so it has gone only 24k miles in that time. when checking the first time there was a recall on some sensors for the 2004 honda pilot for this sensor but none for my vehicles vin. *tr
On my 2004 honda pilot, the srs (airbag) warning indicator light on the dashboard mysteriously remains on even though there have been no other changes to the vehicle. the honda dealer wants $80 just to look at it! this is outrageous; it's clearly a failed component that should be covered under the safety portion of the vehicle's warrantee for the lifetime of the vehicle. there are many other honda owners who have experienced this warning light and they report it is nearly always a failed passenger seat sensor that honda is replacing under a tsb; however my local dealer claims to know nothing of the tsb and want me to pay for this. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda pilot. the contact stated that there had been sudden acceleration with the vehicle on numerous occasions before the crash occurred. while driving out of a parking space the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into the side of the house which moved it six inches. the air bags did not deploy. the driver was injured while shifting into neutral gear and park at the same time in order to stop the vehicle from accelerating. the brake were depressed while the rpms increased excessively and the vehicle would not turn off. a police report was available if needed. the vehicle was towed by the sheriff to perform a forensic examination on it. the insurance company confirmed that the vehicle was destroyed. the honda manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 90,000.
I have a 2004 honda pilot and my srs dash light has come on at least 3 times. the last time was when i placed my computer on the front passenger seat. the light came on and will not go out. each time it cost over $100 the repair/reset. this is upsetting that the air bag will not deploy in an accident. *tr
I own a 2004 honda pilot. the seatbelt sensor switch came on at around 63k miles. took to honda, they said passenger seat airbags sensor is defective and they have to take seat apart to repair. proposed cost is around $500. have not repaired yet due to cost. inquired with other owners in my town that own same care, make and model year 2004 and 2005. 6 other women in my town have had exact same problem with their pilot. i feel it should be a warranted part due to it being a life safety issue of a defective sensor on the pilot. complained to local dealership, herb chambers honda, westborough, ma. they said they have had some repairs like that but not alot and it is not a recall problem. i would like it investigated to see how many honda pilots have had this problem and if it should be a honda cost for such a defect. honda doesn't not even tell you to not let anyone sit in the passenger seat inspite of the sensor being on indicating a defect. *tr
Srs light came on. honda dealer said opds unit need replacing. was replaced 5/6/09. drove about a month and srs light comes back on. honda dealer said unit may be defective. unit replaced. drove about 2 weeks and srs light comes back on. honda dealer stumped. they just keep resetting the unit but srs light just comes back on. it stays on all the time now. *tr
Was a head on crash at both parties going 60 mph. the drivers side airbag did not deploy which my wife had multiple bruising from hitting the side window and b pillar. injuries besides above 2 holes in colon, damaged 6" of small intestine multiple cuts and bruising and also pulled tendons from left foot. *tr
Opsd (occupant position detection system) and rearwiper motor failed at the same time without previous accident. honda dealer saying this items are not covered under honda certified used car contract. i need to pocket out about $900.00 to replaced both parts. *tr
We have two honda pilot 2004 and 2005. approximately 6 months ago the air bag (srs) light on the 2005 came on, today the light on the 2004 is on. *tr
On evening of 3-25-07, airbag light came on. 3-27-07, went to dealer -computer out. part ordered-to be in 3/29. come pick up car. did so - drove in fear. 3/29- part not in until 4/3. told no rental car as car is drivable (under warranty). called national/zone - agreed with this. told car is drivable. would not tell me car is safe but that is honda's policy. that if the car is drivable - they do not give a rental. so- to me - honda is saying my life and that of my family is not their problem and it's up to me to get a rental. the car is drivable but not safe and possibly dangerous. i am the medical provider for a large brain injury rehab facility. i don't want to have more clients due to honda's policy!!! if the car is unsafe or dangerous - it is not drivable!!!! a rental car should be supplied. i would like to see honda held accountable for their policy and feel that it goes against nhtsa beliefs. airbags are their for a reason but honda doesn't feel they are necessary. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda pilot. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the contact also stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v351000 (air bags); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 6/18/15*cn updated 9/27/2017*cn
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda pilot. the contact was driving approximately 50 mph when the air bag warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the occupant position detection system control unit was replaced. the contact stated that the component was previously replaced in 2005. the vehicle was not yet repaired as the occupant position control system sensor was on back order. the failure mileage was 56,893 and the current mileage was 178,265.
The air bags failed to work when the car impacted a vehicle head-on. the air bag failed a 2nd time when the vehicle was impacted in the rear bumper. the speed of the vehicle in the rear was going aproximately 50mph. the children in the rea seating had very soar necks for a week. i bought the car with the understanding the vehicle was a safe vehicle. i had four children in the vehicle. when i talked to the honda mechanic, he explained to me that because i was in the middle of two cars the air bag computer system was confused on where to send the air... i think that is wrong! there should be a signal that when confused on where to go, set all of the airbags off. by not sending any off, it indangered my family... please reconsider the five star rating you give a false impression.
After noticing the seatbelt/airbag warning light was on, i arranged to have it checked by the dealer, ken dixon honda of waldorf, md. i also requested an oil change. when i droped the car off, the gentleman asked if i was there for an oil change. i said yes but i was really there to have the seatbelt/airbag system checked and the light reset. he asked if i wanted my car washed; it was free. half way home, (i live one hour away) i realized the warning light was still on. the next day, friday, we drove to georgia. on our way home, we rolled three times in our honda pilot. none of the airbags opened. although we walked away, we suffered head and neck injuries, none of which were life threatening. i would like to know if they should have deployed. could you please let me know where to go and how i should respond. thank you.*ak
Vehicle srs airbag light came on while driving in extreme cold weather, rear wipers also stop functioning at the same time. *tr
Consumer's vehicle was involved in a front impact collision at 35 mph when it struck the vehicle in front. the seat belts did not lock upon impact.*ak the consumer stated that the airbag deployed but did not inflate. *tc
Air bag system kept disabling by itself, and there was no way to reset it unless taken to the dealer. consumer took vehicle to the dealer 3 times, and each time it took days before consumer had vehicle returned.*ak
