I own a 2001 honda passport . i just learned from a mechanic and also confirmed with the service manager of my local honda dealership ( century motors honda, cincinnati, ohio) that there is severe corrosion on the frame on driver's side of the frame and other areas are showing signs but are not corroded through yet. i was told by them that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and could result in a serious accident. the service manager took a picture and sent it to honda corporate and they refuse any responsibility. i have always lived in ohio so it could not have been affected by salt water ect... i also did not learn until now that my passport was made by isuzu and not honda. i purchased it new from a honda dealer. i was told that repair on the frame is not advisable, due to safety issues and the fact there are other areas on the frame that may rust completely in the near future. i hope you can help me with this issue. *tr thank you, gail wood
While driving my 2001 honda passport down rt. 51 i heard a very loud ,crunching noise under my car. suddenly i had no control of the vehicle. terrified, and after weaving back and forth on the road among other traffic, i was finally able to get the car off the road. it had to be towed on a flatbed truck. i was told by the tow truck operator that the underside of the car was totally rusted out and that he had never seen a control arm totally rust off a car. my car has been garage kept and well maintained since i bought it new in 2001. the collision center that it was towed to tried to weld the frame, but, there is still major rust damage under the car. i notified my honda dealer of the problem and was told that since it was an isuzu product honda held no responsibility for the problem. this automobile only has 90,000 miles on it and i planned to continue using it for several years to come.. *tr
Filed original complaint (odi number 10342822) )07/13/10. since then i returned the car to the garage due to brake problems and was told that my 2001 honda passport frame is so rotted out that it should not have passed the last inspection and will definitely not pass further inspections and should be gotten rid of as soon as possible. the rusted frame is not repairable. i already spent a large amount of money to have a piece of the frame welded so the car could be used until another alternative could be found. i cannot sell or trade this car in, so it will need to be junked. neither honda or isuzu wants to hear anything about it. *tr

I have a 2001 honda passport and the rear of the frame completely rotted and the vehicle is now useless. i was driving to get onto the highway and lost control of the car momentarily so i pulled over. i thought it was a tie rod and drove approximately 15 to 20 miles an hour and dropped my vehicle off at the garage. i was informed that the frame rotted an dthey were surprised my rear axle was still attached. i was told that it was basically staying attached because of about 1 inch of good steel and my gas tank. i am very lucky that no one was hurt. i have seen a lot o fthese complaints about isuzu rodeos and honda passports. is anything going to be done. there is not a spec of rust anywhere else on the vehicle!?? *tr

Body frame corrosion on my 2001 honda passport. will need replacement welding to pass inspection. *tr
I had taken my 2001 honda passport (isuzu rodeo) in to the service station for an oil change and inspection sticker. when the mechanic was getting ready to put the vehicle on the lift, he noticed the problem with the rotted frame. the left rear section of frame is rotted involving the suspension, trail arm bracket (suspension link), body mount bracket and rear suspension. he said it was so bad that he would not even put the vehicle on the lift for fear the frame would break off. a 2 - 3 foot section of the frame needs to be replaced but we can not find one at any salvage yards, all the ones we have contacted do have frames for the vehicle but they all have the same problem as the one i have just described. the vehicle has not yet been repaired and i am stuck making payments on a vehicle i can no longer drive. *tr
2001 honda passport. rear trailing linkage rusted away from frame. received recall a year later from honda. truck is now at a welder getting the rear frame rails patched due to rusting. its not only the frame rails that are rusting away. mileage on vehicle is 125000. i have noticed the entire frame from front to back rusting. this is a serious issue. can and will cause an accident or death. my experience was with the rear trailing linkage. was doing 45 mph down a highway, hit a bump, linkage broke away from the frame.. i fished tailed in traffic, luckily not hitting anyone or hurting myself. this vehicle needs to be taken off the road. and customers reimbursed and compensated. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. the contact stated that the rear axle separated from the frame. the dealer stated that they would not repair it because the vehicle would be unsafe to drive. a new frame would have to be purchased and would cost more than the vehicle's value to repair. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty; therefore, no repairs would be performed. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 112,000.
My honda passport began to swerve uncontrollably at 25 mph. i stopped at service station and had a mechanic inspect the car. he found the frame had rusted through causing the rear stabilizer to break free. in that condition the left side of the rear axle is not connected to the frame and vehicle control is compromised. *tr
My 2001 honda passport 4x4 that i purchased brand new in 2001. while my husband was driving it in july on the 16th 2008. he almost got into a bad accident. the frame completely gave way on both sides on the back. there is nothing holding the top of the vehicle together. well called dealer and honda motor corp. both said they offered a warranty, 5 years. i guess they do not care about their product. everybody i have spoke with including the dealer, said i do not know how or why this happened. my vehicle looks great though. i just can't drive it. i don't even know if it can be fixed they said to take it to a body shop. i paid almost 30,000 for this suv and now it hit the 7 year mark and i can't drive it because the frame rotted apart. *tr

2001 honda passport exl isuzu mfg in aug 2000. purchased used in nov 2004, was leased to 1 person, then at end of lease auctioned to place i bought from. front brake pads and rotors replaced 1 month after purchase. check engine light goes off 1 month after purchase. exhaust flange replaced 1 month after purchase. 3 months after purchase fuel indicator goes wacky, check engine light goes off and on. 1 year after purchase engine dies, intercooler was culprit, only 76,000 miles on vehicle. transmission was found to have a leak, the right servo rubber seal was replace. exhuast has leak at or up to y pipe area. something underneath is cracked severly. i am depressed, as i paid $19,000 am stuck paying $31,000 in long run through financial institute, and can't do anything with negative equity, and bad credit history. dealership refused to fix problems when first purchased and still refuses to offer financial relief. warranty co. and financial institute are just as uncaring. i was made to believe it was a sturdy, long lasting vehicle, and have since found out otherwise. oil is big problem, have to feed it half to 3/4 qt. every 2 days. gas consumption is poor, can only go 110 mi. per fill up. oil, oil filter and air filter are changed on regular basis. shocks are the pits, takes bumps hard, and feels like it is going to break in the rear. also known problem is the rear clunk, thump on stop and go, is caused by a item underneath that turns. could of been killed when engine died on major highway, but was able to roll off to shoulder before ceasure. i consider major depression from this a injury. *nm
Problems that continue to exist are as follows: 1- miles per gallon are far below what was indicated. in such a spiraling cost per gallon environment, usage of gas it 30% to 50% greater than the manufacturer says. i believe this is deceptive 2- the "engine warning light" has gone on several times. this last time the honda dealer says it is a special "backordered" item that may fix both the mpg issue as well as the "warning" issue. the question that could not be answered was, it is harmful to the car or a danger to me driving the car. 3- during a recent ice storm my car bumped a telephone pole and it shattered the bumper. the speed could not have exceeded 2 to 3 mph. the entire bumber has to be replaced due to the extensiveness of the damage....cost ~$1000.00. 4- upon evaluating the above issue the repair specialist (an independent car repair person) asked if i knew that my vehicle was not a honda but an isuzu. i was not made aware of this during my purchase!!! an issue i consider to be deceptive as this will constiture my fourth or fifth "honda". i was led to believe i was, again, purchasing a "honda". not happy about that. what can you do to help me with the above issues. my warning light has been on for almost 3 weeks now since i took it to the dealer. is this too long and what is happening to the engine of my car? thanks for your assistance! ray vaitsas 1000 pebble drive greensboro, nc 27410
