We have classified the 99 complaints from 2007 Honda Odyssey about STEERING into the following categories.
Power steering failing, display screen failing
My 2007 odyssey was diagnosed as having a power steering leak. this was funny because my 2004 accord was also diagnosed with the same issue. multiple mechanics suggested that perhaps there was an issue with power steering machinery in hondas from those years. in fact, there were recalls for both 2004 accords and 2007 odysseys but our vehicle vin numbers did not fall under those recalls. however, this is still concerning that this is due to faulty parts and would like honda to consider a free replacement as they would have for those vehicles for whom the parts were recalled.
Vsa light came on then the car will not go over 2000 rpms and the steering gets hard. the brakes go to floor making hard brake feel. this happened on the interstate.
Have had extensive issues from honda of america and local dealerships regarding the status of the odyssey's safety. this van has had issues since new that honda has consistently attempted to avoid dealing with. vehicle at low speeds has suddenly heavy and troublesome steering affected steering response and vehicle direction when turning. brake pedal feel when slowing in any forward/reverse direction is unresponsive increasing stopping distance and affecting emergency maneuvers. dealership/ honda has not and will not accept liability!
Power steering pump went out making it hard to turn. it started with an occasional ticking noise and then gradually got harder to make turns. no more ticking noise now just hard to turn. i have actually screamed like someone power lifting trying to get into a parking space!
My honda odyssey shuts off completely while driving, at that time you can't turn the steering wheel (or it is very very hard to turn). this is preceded by usually the lights on dashboards flashing. sometimes it will shut off (dashboard will go black) and come right back after few seconds. other times the i have to stop and turn it on again and it works. yesterday it turned off and the car came to stop then i moved the battery little and the hazard light started flashing. when it's completely dead even hazard light would not blink. today it happened again and even after moving the battery it did not get power back. i had left the hazard light on but it was not blinking. however after around 5 minutes or so on it's own the hazard light started blinking and i could drive off.
My honda odyssey has developed a vibration in the front end. we've replaced the rims, tires, and suspension to no avail. the vibration can be overwhelming at times. we are unaware of anything that could have caused this since it came on gradually. it appears to be worse in the winter.
Very strong gas smell
We were out of the house and on to a city street, suddenly battery light is on and cannot steer at all. almost got into crash. turns out the serpentine belt tensioner, new from honda dealer in 2017, its bolt sheared off three months after installation. if this happened on the highway, it would most certainly got us into an accident. honda should recall all the drive belt tensioner, but unfortunately, we have no choice but put in another honda tensioner.
I've been having problems for years with the power steering but it has gotten worse. now i see honda extended the warranty but i was never notified. i bought my van brand new. i should have been notified. i have trouble parking and turning at low speeds, the power steering locks up and makes it feel as though i have no power steering when turning. the recall should have been offered to all owners.
The tensioner bolt has sheared off 3 times since the serpentine belt was replaced. in both cases the car was in motion and power steering was lost making it nearly impossible to steer the car safely. fortunately this did not happen on the highway and occurred on city streets. in all cases our mechanic used original factory parts. this is a significant safety concern for my wife and 5 children. it appears others have experienced similar problem that can be referenced on the following website. http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152628
The power steering does not circulating properly when the weather is cold below 20 degrees. hard to control the steering. you may have to let the engine warm to avoid the hard steering
Making a long winding and loud sound when turning the steering wheel at slow speed particularly at stationary position. another issue is, it is very hard to turn either to the left or right like it is not equipped with power steering at all.
Power steering failure at low speeds. reported to honda in 2010. they replaced the reservoir but never fixed the problem. now honda is refusing to address the issue.
The power steering pump in my honda odyssey 2007 is poorly constructed. it was giving me trouble since the beginning, but recently, the steering wheel is very hard to turn and it often gets stuck. i took it to my local midas for investigation and they are estimating the repairs due to the power steering pump needs to be replaced. the estimated charge for repair is about $870. honda says that it's eligible for a recall repair until 2014, but they did not send me a letter or notification regarding the recall. when american honda was contacted, they asked me to contact the service manager in my local dealership because the dealership is supposed to inform me about the recall. i called the service manager but no reply received. i am driving a unsafe vehicle with two small children and i cant afford such costly repairs.
Steering wheel is hard to turn quickly at low speeds, and while at parking. i knew that was a problem in 2010 in thousand of these vehicle, which honda replaced the part, with two efforts, after being supplied with wrong part in the past. i took my car to local honda dealer today (harsons honda), who complained the same thing, and wants me to replace the power steering pump during my timing belt change. i ask then whether they can look for, whether my van has the correct part (which probably have), but said there is a no way to check unless i have the invoice, which i definitely have not, as i purchased from a private owner. however, the symptoms look like the same (which technician complaint due to failure in power steering pump, but did not tell anything about the part, see attached report), that it is having the same issue, which thousands of odyssey owner faced before. i want to make sure, that it has a right part on it (even aged out), or even it is fixed; it might have gone wrong. i want this issue is to be resolved as honda should look into this serous safety issue, which honda also admits back in 2011 (see attached).
When i am driving my van at about 65 and above and when i hit the brake the steering wheel starts to vibrate very badly. this does not happen i am driving at less than 60 mph. every time this happens, i feel like i might crash into other vehicles or run off the road due to the vehicle becoming very unstable. i have taken the vehicle to the dealership several times but they test drive it and say that there is no issues.
Steering becomes tight and very hard at low speeds and my wife started complaining of sore arms. i tried and found it to be quite hard. took it to the dealer and he flushed power steering fluid and charged me for it though there is a tsb on how to fix it. took it to the tire shop and they asked me to take it to the alignment shop. then i searched the internet and found tsb a11-039 and several other letters from honda to customers. honda extended the warranty but did not inform the owners!! i did not receive any communication regarding this and my vehicle does not show any open recalls in honda website. steering is quite critical to the vehicle and honda should recall instead of playing with lives of customers. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. while driving at 45 mph and making a left or right turn, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver and the contact heard an abnormal noise. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 50,000.
There is no power steering in the vehicle at low speeds. steering wheel extremely hard to turn. i have noticed you loose the power steering when turning into a parking spot or driving at low speeds (kids carpool lane). i feel that this is a safety issue because if you do not have a lot of arm strength (which a lot is needed to control car) you will not be able to control the vehicle if needed in these situations. this can be very dangerous if a vehicle cannot be controlled. the vehicle also makes a very loud noise when turning the steering wheel when the weather is cold.
This vehicle is very hard to steering when it stops or in low speed. i talked with honda customer service. they claimed that it is out of warranty. however, i found there are lots of same problems described on-line. i believe honda should provide a service recall on this issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. a technician informed the contact that the power steering hose was leaking and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 91,111.
Tough to steer! when moving it is little okay to maneuver still hard but manageable. with all these complaints on this same steering power issue i was surprise honda didn't recall for this manufacturer defect and fix the issue. *tr
I bought 2007 odyssey at 67,000 miles. i purchased a trade-in vehicle from sterling acura dealer, steering drifts to the right within 3 seconds, i took the van to the dealer 3 times they've switched tire positions, done the alignment still the drift to the right happens. then they say it's because of road crowing which i totally don't accept. i read through many forums where everyone is pissed-off with this problem. i suppose honda should fix this problem or part knowledge with the dealer on how to fix it. *tr
The condition was first noticed shortly after aquiring the vehicle in a parking lot while trying to negotiate a turn. the vehicle steering was normal at first and then suddenly required excessive force to turn the steering wheel. heavy braking was required to avoid a collision with another vehicle. immediately following this experience, after getting the vehicle to a safe location, i attempted to turn the steering wheel both directions while stopped and at low speeds, (approximately 0-10 mph) and noticed the condition consistantly for approximately 2-3 minutes. i then parked the vehicle. i checked the fluid level and it was within the min and max levels. after returning to the vehicle later that day, the steering was functioning normally. the condition has since come and gone several times (approximately 1-2 times / week) and my honda dealer has just shrugged it off saying that if i can't reproduce the problem while at their shop, there's nothing they can do. i had the same issue with a 2006 honda odyssey and the dealer refused to do anything about it even while under warranty. after doing some research, i have found that there are technical service bulletins issued by honda to their dealers for this exact issue, but the dealer still refuses to correct the problem. the safety issue arrises especially when someone unfamiliar with the vehicle drives it as when my mother used my van to transport my three children. when attempting to pull our into traffic she was unable to keep the vehicle in her lane. fortunately the other driver was able to avoid her. i understand that vehicle components are not designed to last forever and i do not have a problem with repairs. however, this is a known issue from the manufacturer which they are very reluctant to correct. date & mileage are approximate. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became hard to turn. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the power steering pump and the reservoir needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Steering wheel is hard to turn at low speeds, while driving at low speeds, it is hard. especially while driving in or exiting from a parking lot spot. there is not enough assist from the power steering pump. *tr
Very hard to steer. it suddenly stopped smooth operation and remained hard since mar 10th, 2014. looks like the power steering stopped working. feel like driving a big truck and apply a lot of power to steer. it becomes tough when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. when moving it is little okay to maneuver (still hard but manageable). i would like honda to recall for a manufacturer defect and fix the issue. *tr
Loss of power steering & difficulty turning steering wheel. paint on top of the roof has begun to fade. had to replace oil pan because of lug nut damage to pan. according to the mechanic damaged was caused to the oil pan due to the quality of metal within the lug nut that is of harsher material than the oil pan. therefore, it caused damage to the oil pan that required us to have an immediate oil pan replacement during a routine oil change. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the power steering assist exhibited a loud noise. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the reservoir steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the power steering assist failed without warning as the steering wheel became hard to turn. the vehicle was repaired twice for the same failure in the past year however, the failure continued to recur. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not been notified. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
Approx 10/2/13 was driving on a road i travel frequently and was accelerating when suddenly my car lost power and slowed rapidly. i thought it was a fluke then on 10/11/13 i was driving a road i travel on daily when suddenly my car slowed by about 30 mph in just a few seconds. i put my foot on the brake and realized it was already engaged and was why i was slowing down. 10/16/13 - car went to dealer to be repaired. dealer found source codes dtc 26-1 lateral acc sensor, and dtc 27-1 steering angle sensor but could not replicate and told me they did not know what the fix was. 10/17/13 - was driving on the same road as on 10/11 - clanging/grating sound in steering column and then brakes engaged, was accelerating slowly prior to this. slowed down almost to a stop, then slowly accelerated again. within a quarter of a mile it happened again (was driving slower at this time b/c i was worried it would happen again), this time the triangle w/ the exclamation point on it flickered (this is the first time it came on, all other times no lights or anything). taking it back to dealer tomorrow but unless it happens to them was told there was nothing they could do. repeatedly told them of the investigation but they said they don't know the fix. thankfully no one was behind me during these occurrences but if they had there would have been an accident due to how fast the car decelerated. *tr
The vehicle is hard to steer when starting from parked position or at low speeds. this makes the vehicle hard to maneuver into a parking space, parallel park, or to pull out from a parked position. *tr
Last fall my power steering would go out when i was decelerating or reversing started to be difficult to turn. the van would make a terrible noise when idling and you would turn the vehicle and i noticed it seemed to only be when the weather was cold. i had an auto shop evaluate it and flush it as well as place a dye to see if it was leaking and it wasn't. i went in for a recall just recently and the dealership stated i should just replace the power steering pump even though they don't know what's wrong with it. this is a known problem as multiple online consumer complaint sites have listed this problem. my concern is that if i have to drive in icy conditions to which i will have to decelerate i will have problems with steering which is not safe for myself, my children and other drivers. *tr
I entered a highway and was accelerating to a speed of approx. 35 mph when the vehicle suddenly decelerated, as if the brakes had been slammed on, causing me to lurch forward, triggering the seat belts to tighten. i maintained steering control, removed my foot from the gas pedal, then suddenly the vehicle accelerated rapidly without my pressing on the gas pedal. this happened four times within approximately 60 seconds. i'm stating this mildly when i say the experience was terrifying. i pulled over, turned the car off, and called our mechanic who advised i slowly and safely drive the van to the shop, which wasn't too far away, or consider having it towed. i chose to drive slowly to the mechanics and the problem did not occur again. upon diagnostic testing, our mechanic said it was a steering sensor that lost its memory and needed reset, an easy fix and that while this problem is rare, it's not unheard of, yet it shouldn't happen again. (we had recently had new tires installed prior to this event, the mechanic suspected that while the tires were being changed, the sensor's memory must have been wiped.) the second event was this past wed., oct. 2, the same experience as before happened again. only on this occasion, our mechanic's diagnostic testing did not provide a code as it had before, but recognizing the complaint, they reset the sensor again. in both events, the roads were dry, clear weather, we were driving on new tires and at low speeds, having just moments before turned on the ignition and begun accelerating. we are now being told that our vehicle has two broken motor mounts. we highly suspect this is due to the sudden jerking back and forwards from this involuntary deceleration/acceleration issue; it's an expensive repair! honda needs to recall this model and get a fix asap. we are thankful this hasn't caused an accident--yet. *we bought this van used in 2010. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. while attempting to turn the steering wheel in either direction the wheel became resistant and difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to the an independent mechanic where the o-ring was replaced; however, the contact continued to experience the power steering failure. the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic who stated the steering unit was faulty. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. the dealer replaced the power steering pump. updated 12/23/13
Normal driving conditions, low battery light illuminates and there is no power steering. *tr
Whenever i brake from about 70mph, the steering wheel rattles to a point that i have to hold it with two hands. i've research online and many people seem to have the same problem but without a resolution. please look into this issue before it cause major accidents. *tr
2007 odyssey makes a clicking noise when turning right or left. power steering pump was replaced last year but was told the rack and pinion steering needs to be replaced. 97,000 miles with maintenance kept up to date. *tr
The car has become increasingly hard to steer over the last two to three years to the point that it is almost impossible to turn it into parking spots or other areas at low speeds. my wife feels particularly unsafe about driving it like this, as she is afraid she will hit another car or object related to the inability to turn without manually overpowering the steering wheel. in checking for a recall, i noted that there are multiple other customer complaints with similar issue. please address as possible. thank you. for onset date, this is a gradually worsening issue. i would say that i first noticed slight increased resistance about 3-4 years ago. it has worsened to the point that it is now a major resistance when attempting to turn at low/minimal speed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that when attempting to turn the steering wheel, the wheel would become resistant and the contact experienced great difficulty in turning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 62,891.
Vehicle was hard to steer at low speeds also during cold weather we hear a loud whining noise coming from the power steering pump. took the vehicle to the honda dealer where we were told the power steering pump was bad. they replaced the pump and told us if we hear the whining noise again it is probably the power steering resovior which was not replaced. there is also a popping sound in the steering which they say is the rack and pinion and it needs to be replaced. now the vehicle is not under warranty anymore but before the warranty had expired we had taken the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the popping noise but was told they could not find anything wrong. magically now they have found the problem. with them now wanting to charge $2000 to fix it. the vehicle only has 54000 miles and should not be having this much trouble. i have never owned a vehicle needing this much work this soon. although i do love my vehicle i can honestly say i am having doubts of ever owning another one. if they know there is a problem they should fix the problem. *kb
After driving apx. 50 miles most of them at highway speeds upon exiting the highway and waiting to make a turn i heard a loud whining noise from under the hood. when i tried to turn it was difficult to do so. the noise continued and the vehicle was difficult to turn at times as if you had loss power assit. i parked the van and ckecked the power steering fluid level, level was good, but it looked foamy. the van sat for apx. 3 hours i checked the fluid again and it looked normal. after starting the van the noise was not as pronounced and steering seemed ok, but after making the 50 mile return trip home the same problem returned. after checking the internet i find this is a problem honda is aware of since they have issued at least two service bulletins 07-005 and 10-076 to address the problem. i would think any problem that would affect the steering of a vehicle at slow or high speed should be repaired by the manufacturer. you could loose the ability to avoid an accident if this would happen at either speed or cause an accident. it is not as if this is due to poor or lack of maintance, or high milage. the problems seem to happen way before a vehicle of this cost and preceived quality should start having problems, to a system that affects it's safe operation. some have occured during the warranty period. i can only speak for my van, but it has been serviced by a honda dealer since new. i hope human life does not have to be lost or serious injury occur before this on going problem is resolved. honda knows they have a problem if they will not do the right thing, then somebody needs to make them, and fix the power steering pumps. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle became difficult to steer. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. updated 02/11/14*lj
2007 - 2010 honda odyssey owners are targeted to receive notification of a "warranty extension" to replace the power steering pump under certain conditions. i received the notice for my 2007 honda odyssey, suffered with the "hard to turn" condition (see tsb 10-076) and associated pump whining noise that is described in tsb 07-005 (defective pump reservoir). although the pump was extended warranty replaced at university motors (missoula) i was required to pay for the replacement of the reservoir ($66.08). my understanding is that the reservoir defect is what causes the pump to fail. i believe that a recall should be required and all owners that have been required to pay for the reservoir (or pump) should be 100% reimbursed. american honda automobile refused to reimburse for this replacement stating that the extended warranty applies only to the pump. please review huge complaint data base. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while traveling 35 mph, the contact drove through a puddle of water. the battery light illuminated and the vehicle also became extremely difficult to steer. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 47,461.
Power steering pump is failing to provide assistance at low engine speeds every time the vehicle is operated (not intermittent). condition makes it difficult and slow to manuever the vehicle during parking lot type maneuvers. the first time i experienced the condition was while parallel parking in the city during a time of heavy traffic. note: power steering reservoir was replaced under warranty after one year of ownership due to air ingestion problem. vehicle is a one owner and i can confirm that only honda power steering fluid has ever been used. *tr
Have chronically reported excessive force needed to turn steering wheel at low speeds. correction: honda is requesting that i flush power steering pump and change the reservoir. *tr
Vehicle failed safety inspection because power steering is ineffective at low speeds. my daughter is learning to drive, and we cannot let her use the vehicle since she cannot control the steering while moving below 5 miles per hour. this problem is detailed in 2 honda technical service bulletins 07-005 and 10-076, but honda appears to be reluctant to admit a problem to customers.
2007 honda odyssey ex power steering loss at low speeds (less than 10mph) especially when pulling in/out of a parking spot or doing a 3-point turn. also humming can be heard when steering at low speeds but it went away after i took the van to the dealership for the 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance service. i guess when they flushed the steering fluid and replaced it with new one it fixed the humming problem, but not the loss of power. there are a lot of complaints about this and i don't understand why honda is not doing anything to fix the problem. i also had several recalls fixed recently but none of them is about the steering problem. *tr
