Problems with 2005 Honda Odyssey SEAT BELTS

I was involved in an accident where my children's and my seatbelts were defective. my children's carseats were not secure and upon impact jilted forward. my son and daughters heads hit the handle on the seat directly in front of them. honda sent out their team of technical specialist who inspected the van and said the seat belts didn't work because no-one used seatblelts. however the police and first responder are the ones who unbuckeled my childrens seats and it is in the reports everyone was restrained. i'm concerned because no recall or warning has been sent out to others.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. while driving 35 mph, the passenger side curtain air bag deployed without warning. the contact sustained burns on her neck from the seat belt. the rear passenger occupant sustained slight burns to the wrist. medical attention was not required. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the entire occupant restraint control sensor and unit failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 84,211. updated 05/20/16*lj

On june 15, 2015 my 2005 honda odyssey airbag system light came on and stayed until now, i was scared due to airbag might blown out or causing any trouble while vehicle in use or worst something happen. i took my vehicle to honda dealer on june 16, and i was told no recalls. they did some diagnose and i was told it was the seat belt buckle and wiring on driver side, the buckle was replace (free of charge), but the wiring cost $550 to have it fix. i refused the service due to no sense and not enough evidence to prove the issue. i did some research and found same issue on same vehicle that has airbag system lights on dashboard. i do believe that the dealer should address this as recall especially if the vehicle never been in accident. please let me know if there is anything you can do to address this issue. thanks

Air bag lights comes on intermittently days or weeks apart. no recalls listed for my vin. seat belt light does the same thing but much less frequently. again, no recall listed for my vin. no outward defects. this concerns me due to many other air bag recalls. this is a family car. it was purchased with the safety of my children in mind. we are not feeling very safe.

Honda odyssey 2005 model vehicle seat weight sensors could result in disabling the air bags. if a weight comparable to a child (such as school bag or groceries or a box) is placed in front passenger seat and seat belts are not buckled, air bags are disabled and the indicator light on the dashboard is illuminated. even after removing weight the light stays illuminated. subsequent passenger sitting and seat buckling do not have any effect on the disabling of air bags and indicator. it has to be reset by a dealer. this could endanger the passengers in honda odyssey 2005. *tr

My honda odyssey 2005, the airbag warning light shows up, sometime it disappear, then it will come back sometime later. the minivan is derivable but it is annoying and i am not sure if there is potential danger. *tr

Faulty passenger seat belt buckle airbag impact switch. *tr

This happened on april 20th, 2009 at 3pm. while the suv (my father-in-law 2005 honda odyssey van) was parked, my 8-year old became entangled in the seat belt of the 3rd row middle seat. the seat belt was wrapped around his neck. my wife became aware when the other children screamed for help. my child had already turned blue and he could not even speak. my wife jumped immediately to the 3rd row but the seat belt would not loose and there was any slack to loosen the belt. during all attempts to loosen it, the belt got tighter while my child was being asphyxiated. miraculously, she was able to loose the belt and released him just before he die . the child was injured in the neck, had bruises and broken capillaries throughout his face, eyes and ears, etc. during this week, he had required medical studies including general doctor, paediatrist, neuro, ophthalmologist, ent and psychologist. i am looking how to file a complaint with honda by internet...no luck so far. i am very concerned that there is not a safety feature to manually loosen the seat belt in case of an emergency. i understand that there is a manual key for release it from the bottom, but if my wife would have to try to find the key and release it that way, my son would have die for sure. making research, i found that seems to be that honda fixed a safety issue concerning child car seats, but they have created a new safety hazard for all children. i am sure that honda engineers evaluated this safety hazard but rated with a serious severity but with a low likelihood of occurrence. therefore, this not required any measures for risk mitigation. i think that given the severity of this hazard and its potential harms (major injury, death, etc), honda must re-evaluate its risk assessment and take an action by redesigning this seat belt. in addition, i think honda could have evaluated this hazard from a misuse perspective. however, a normal child playing inside the car could not be considered as such. *tr

Tl* - the contact has a 2005 honda odyssey es. the contact stated that when he pulls the seat belt down on the drivers seat to put in on it gets caught between the door pillar and seat. it is wearing the material of the seat, and the contact is concerned that this will either ruin or blow out the air bag in the drivers seat. the contact stated that this is an ongoing problem. the current and failure mileage were both 10740. the consumer has found help. updated 03/15/07. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on normal road conditions, the front of the vehicle shook when the brakes were applied. no warning signal illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined the front wheel pads were worn out and the two front rotors were machined. after 4000 miles, the problem recurred and the dealership determined the front wheels brake pads were worn out and replaced them again. the problem persisted and the front shaking was noticed nine times. the manufacturer was contacted who opened a case with the commitment of calling back promptly which has not happened. there was a wind noise coming from the windshield and the left sliding door. the rear seat belt was ripped. updated 11/14/06. *jb

2005 odyssey - front passenger seat belt will not free up to allow enough length to buckle. it is locked in the recoiled position. it just happened two days ago and has never happened before. after two days it is still locked in the recoiled position making the front passenger seat unusable. what do we need to do to get it corrected. our vehicle just came off of warranty but we understand that honda offers a lifetime warranty for seat belts. true? *tr

While driving, my son's seat belt became unbuckled and my son tumbled forward while still strapped in his car seat. *nm

My 14-year old became entangled in the seat belt in the 3rd row passenger-side seat of our new honda odyssey van. the seat belt was wrapped around his waist. the seat belt would not allow us to gain any slack to loosen the belt. all attempts to loosen (by feeding in slack to gain release) only made the belt tighter until my child was literally hanging from the roof of the vehicle. this happened on an interstate, 8 hours from home. luckily i was able to cut the belt to release him. (i happened to have a knife in the car, which is very unusual.) i have asked honda to repair the belt. they have offered 50% only. i am more concerned that there is not a manual override to allow the seat belt to be released. i understand now that the seat belt goes into a different mode when extended all the way. it will not release until the belt is retracted all the way. it sounds like honda has fixed a safety issue concerning child car seats, but they have created a new safety hazard for all children. what if the belt had gotten wrapped around his neck? any child placed in a seat belt has the potential of pulling the seat belt out all of the way and allowing it to get wrapped around their body or neck.*jb

Driver's seat belt will not unlatch when button pressed multiple times.

The lap/shoulder belt in the center position of the third row seat was anchored with the anchor latch. my 2 1/2 yr old child pulled the seat belt down; somehow it wrapped around his neck. the seat belt had been pulled out completely, so it was locked. the automatic seat belt tensioner was activated and the belt was tight around his neck. thankfully, he made enough noise to arouse attention from a person sitting in the second row. there was barely enough room for my fingers to fit between the belt and his neck - with him leaning completely back on his carseat. the anchor can only be released using the latch plate, but the belt was too tight. we were forced to cut the seat belt to relieve the tension on his neck. he received welps on both the right and left sides of his neck. we immediately filed a complaint with the city police department. this could have been a fatal incident as i am almost always by myself with my triplet children and would probably not have seen nor heard him!!! at the very least, parents should be notified of this possibility.
