I'm having trouble with honda over my srs unit. i was told in january (while i was getting an airbag recall installed) that my srs unit was faulty and needed to be replaced for $1200. i waited for my tax return and now there's a brand new recall on the srs unit but those parts won't be available for several months. but in the mean time... my srs unit is faulty. they told me in january that in the event of a crash my airbags would not be deployed and my seatbelts wouldn't tighten or anything! so i took it to the dealership who offered me a rental until they had a chance to look into it (very nice) but now they are saying they cannot offer a rental until the part comes in, they want to run a diagnostic test on my dollar ($115 to be precise) because he told me even if the recalled part was installed my srs light wouldn't turn off-- that it was 'most likely something else'. i am so disappointed that honda wouldn't take my situation more seriously, this seems like a huge liability issue for them. i would expect them to at least replace my faulty srs with another current model that's not faulty until the part comes in... but i have to pay for even the diagnostics test? i'm baffled. *tr

Honda will not warranty failed front passenger side airbags. due to 36,000/ three year warranty expiration. a federal mandate recall on front airbags was already executed on this vehicle. why has honda not been made to warranty all airbags systems associated with the front passenger and driver seats. does it take serious injury or death to make the nhtsa regulate manufactures to stand behind the safety equipment in their vehicles for the life of the vehicle. i hope that my complaint along with other vehicle owner complaints about this safety issue will be addressed asap. *tr

2004 honda odyssey minivan request to replace airbags, in light of the recall. *mw

I contacted a honda dealer (honda of columbia, lexington, sc 29072) for my odyssey van airbag recall on 10 nov and filed the recall repair. i asked a service rep what i needed to do when the airbag were not safe. he told me that i needed to keep driving my van at my own risk while new airbags were on order! on 31 dec, i went to the dealer and asked the status of my airbag recall fix status. they gave me the same answer that i had to drive my van at my own risk until the airbags would arrive, but did not know how long it took. this is absolutely not right! honda car owner have to keep driving at their own risks when the safety problems are caused by the company? the company must offer an alternative car for affected customers until their cars are fixed. waiting for 2 months or longer is not acceptable especially when the recall may cause a fatal result. *tr

i brought my honda odyssey into the kuhn honda dealership (tampa, fl) for recall with regard to the supplemental restraint system nhtsa 14v-351 and 14v-353. they made the necessary replacements of the airbags, srs modification and shift interlock. after this modification, the air bag srs light lit up and they told me i need a new srs unit. they stated they could sell me a used one for $350-400 plus installation. i told them i did not want a used srs unit and would purchase a new one from honda. i had them install the new srs unit on december 17, 2014. in march, 2014, i received another recall notice (nhtsa recall 15v-045 stating that honda srs units needed to be replaced and my honda dealership would be in touch with me when they received a new srs unit for my vehicle. on june 10, 2015, kuhn honda replaced my srs unit a second time but i did not have to pay for it this time. i should not have had to pay for it the first time back in december 2014 but they stated if i did not the car would not be safe. i have a complete compilation of recalls and dealership receipts/documentation that i have saved and can email if necessary.

Letter from senator nelson on behalf of constituent regarding his 2004 honda odyssey, which is apparently one of the vehicles containing defective and potentially deadly front airbags; please reference constituent. *smd

I have a complaint about the way honda officials and the honda dealership have been handing my requests to have my airbags replaced. my car has not been involved in an accident; however, in order to send this complaint to you i had to enter an accident date. i have been trying since march 2014 to get the dealer to replace the air bags in my 2004 honda odyssey. according to a honda official at 1-800-999-1009 and the official honda website, both my driver and front passenger airbags are affected to by recall notice. however, since march i have had several contacts with the dealership and continue to get a run around. they will not replace the bags until they prove, in diagnostic tests, to be defective. i will be charged $90 for each test they find negative. it was my understanding that all airbags from this region of the country and bearing my vin, make and model were to be replaced free of charge. i have yet to receive a paper recall notice, because according to a honda official on 9/15/14, the delay in mailing them out is due to the lack of sufficient available replacement airbags to handle the recall notice. i have left several voice mail messages with the dealership where i purchased my vehicle, but no one has returned any of my calls. just what am i expected to do? how long must i wait to receive proper notice from honda officials? am i expected to pay for all of the diagnostic tests? if an airbag passes a diagnostic test there's no guarantee that it will not deploy at a future time with the same disastrous outcome we've been hearing about in the news. is anyone advocating on our behalf? *tr

I received a recall notice on my 2004 honda odyssey and immediately called coggin honda of orlando at the end of february 2014. at the time the service person told me that they haven't received the parts as of yet and that they will contact me. in june i called again and was given the same excuse adding that they were running behind. last week, on october 7, 2014, i took the odyssey in for some repairs and asked about when they were going to fix the recall of the air bags on the vehicle and once again were given the excuse of running behind. at this point i have no other choice than to make this complain. the dealer has not showed me any interest on fixing the problem. what are they waiting for? are they waiting to see if i have an accident and hoping that the air bags will function properly. *tr

I recently received a recall notice for a module in the airbag system causing it to deploy on its own. the additional problem that i am having is the " srs " light is on which as i was told by the honda mechanic that it means that the air bag might not deploy if needed . they also refused to fix the light being on because they said the 2 problems had nothing to do with each other. it would seem to me more of a safty hazzard that the air bag would not inflate when you would need it as apposed to going off by itself. they are making me bring it back another day so they can charge $115.00 diagnostic fee plus other parts what is needed. *tr

To whom it may concern: i received a letter in the mail from the honda automobile division about the recall on airbags for 2004 odysseys, and i contacted the jeffrey honda dealer, in roseville, michigan. a customer representative said they would get back to me about this because they were not aware of this, but it has been nearly a month and no one has gotten back to me. are the airbags okay, or do we still need to get them fixed? if we do have to get them fixed, when will the honda dealers know about this? please let me know. any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you in advance! *tr

Beginning around nov. 23, 2012, air bag light on dashboard stayed on after its initial test (blink on and then off) once ignition turned on and engine running. over next approximately 5 months, light would intermittently come on after test and then stay on while engine running. seems to occur more more when the outside temperature is warm rather than cold. however, within the past approximately 1 month (since may 2013), light has been staying on constantly after initial test and ignition turned on. vehicle has been operating normally otherwise. i've checked all seatbelt connections and fuses and nothing abnormal found. no other dashboard lights are having problems, nor have there been any electrical or mechanical problems with the vehicle, so problem is isolated to airbag system. *tr

Drove the car about 20 yards, then placed it in park to allow the rear van doors to open for our children. when the kids got in, i placed the shift lever in drive. immediately, both the driver and passenger airbags deployed violently. i was not in motion, was not struck by any other vehicle or object, and my foot was on the brake. an off-duty police officer was parked right behind me saw this and came to help. he noted that the airbag firing mechanisms continued to fire. "i've seen a lot of wrecks" he said "but i've never seen the airbags continue to fire. the horn continued to beep. she sustained powder burns on both arms, and was, of course shocked by the surprise. it was raining at the time of the incident. the car has not been driven further. i had minor powder burns on my arms, and our ears were ringing from the loud explosions. *tr

During the summer of 2012 i was parked facing the sun. when i started my car the srs (air bag warning) light illuminated. as i drove the 3 miles to my home the light stayed on. within the next two weeks the same thing happened about two times. honda service could not find any code in the car's computer indicating that there was a problem. again during the summer of 2014 the same thing happened once. i think this srs light illumination may be an indication that the air bag is defective. i live in and bought the car in virginia. the recent takata air bag recall is a regional recall and does not include virginia. however, one of the fatalities caused by this defect occurred in virginia in december. so hot and humid weather is not the only cause of the air bag defect. i believe my honda odyssey's air bags are defective and should be recalled. *tr

During the summer of 2012 i was parked in a parking lot facing the sun. when i started my car the srs (air bag warning) light illuminated. as i drove the 3 miles to my home the light stayed on. within the next two weeks the same thing happened about two times. it has not occurred since then. the airbags did not deploy. my honda dealer mechanic checked the car and indicated that no codes appeared in the car's computer system to indicate that the srs light ever came on. *tr

I have received many notices about several different recals

1. on sat, november 22, 2008, my family and i were riding in our 2004 honda odyssey. we were traveling west on 94 through menomonie, wi at a posted speed of 65 mph. it was 6:15 or so, and the sun had gone down. there was a lot of traffic on the road as it was hunting season in wi. without warning, 2 large deer jumped in front of our minivan. my husband hit both deer - one went over the top of the van, and one went under the van - both deer were killed by the impact. my husband did not loose control of the car, and we did not hit anything else. there was extensive front end damage, and the car was no longer able to be driven. 2. the front airbags did not deploy! while there was no physical injury to either my husband or myself, i know there was a defect as the airbags should have deployed in a front end impact at that speed. 3. nothing has been done to date to correct the failure as front end of minivan needs extensive repair in order to be driven again. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 30 mph on dry normal road conditions, another vehicle crashed into the front passenger door, and caused a head on collision with a one way street sign. both front airbags deployed, and the driver sustained a thermal burn on the top of her left hand, bruised knee and right ring finger. also, the left sleeve of the driver's jacket sustained a burn from the air bag. both occupants in the contact's vehicle wore their seat belts. the driver's seat was 15 inches away from the steering wheel. there were no pictures available, but a police report was taken. the vehicle was taken to a towing lot, to await inspection. updated 12/28/06. *jb
