We have classified the 5 complaints from 2000 Honda Odyssey about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
My wife was driving her 2000 honda odyssey and the driver's side sliding door opened while she was driving on its own.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the vehicle was severely corroded on the passenger and driver side. as a result, the seats could not be latched into the vehicle. in addition, the seat lock detached and left a hole in the lock area. the vehicle was taken to dealer where it was confirmed that the corrosion was severe; however, a remedy could not be offered. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 232,000.
All the motor mounts and transmission mounts need to be replaced. i've never heard of this being an issue in any other vehicle, but after doing a quick google search i discovered it is common in odysseys. we should be able to drive our vehicles without being concerned for the stability of our engine and tranny. this just shouldn't happen. *tr
Check engine light on. dealer reveals code p0420. they (russ darrow milwaukee, wi) are saying that the catalytic converter as well as an o2 sensor need to be replaced cost $1,200. the current mileage is 110,000 and failure mileage was 91,000 and i am the original owner of the vehicle. sticking sliding door's in winter (russ darrow & david hobbs milwaukee, wi) have all the serivice records on the sticking door issuse and they where unable to resolve it. dealer's fix for sticking sliding door was to lube the sliding door every winter instead of finding a solution. this has been on going since 2002 and now i just lube the door's my self instead of wasting my time at dealer's service center. *tr
I have 2000 honda odyssey the power sliding doors fail on a regular basis which entails not being able to open and or close sliding van doors. they will start to close then reopen, not close at all and will not latch properly. when you start to drive the door ajar light will come on and the buzzer will buzz indicating the door is not properly sealed. my son has difficulty with these power doors and has got his hand caught once. this is a safety hazard and a liability waiting to happen. *tr
2000 honda odyssey, the electric sliding door does not shut all the way and there is possibility that it can open while driving at high speed, that can result in a very dangerous situation because mostly small children are riding in the back seat. *tr
The sliding door does not shut all the way. *tr
2000 honda odyssey van.. i have a safety concern for my children, the door's will shut on them my son has already been caught in the door. i called honda they said being my van does not have warranty everything will come out of my pocket. i can not afford to do this i have 4 children and my husband has lost his job is there anything that can be done? thanks *tr
Sliding door don't open and close right, doors stay open at rear edge. *tr
2000 honda odyssey has sticky sliding doors impossible to open after it rains. dealership greased the doors and the situation got worse. it is a dangerous situation especially if there is a fire. i googled problem and others complain. when trying to open the sliding door it unlocks but will not open. when the sun comes out and you come back to your car the sliding door is ajar and unlocked! *tr
My honda odyssey passenger sliding door glitches and now it doesn't even work i've been searching online for help and i've noticed everyone who has a problem with the sliding door it's always the passenger side. it's year 2000 and i believe it's a problem with manufacturing. *tr
The power sliding door on our honda odyssey stopped working. it is extrememly difficult to open and close and our children can not exit the vehicle safely. *tr
2000 honda odyssey driver side power sliding door does not close and lock properly. *tr
The passenger side power sliding door will not open/close using any of the controls. we have to close it manually but it won't latch completely so we are forced to drive with the door slightly ajar. this is a huge safety issue for me with my two daughters sitting there. because the door is slightly open we have to turn off the main power switch to the sliding doors to avoid having the constant buzzing noise. this means they are locked in the back seat and unable to open the doors in the event of an emergency. this has happened multiple times even after trips to the honda dealership to have it fixed. this is a huge safety issue and needs to be addressed by honda. *tr
The driver's side door failed to open while my wife and daughter were in the car, a 2000 honda odyssey that we have had continual "design flaw" problems with from virtually the day we bought it new. i had to pay close to $535 to get this door latch replaced!! and american honda motor corp. in torrance refused my request for any assistance whatsoever!! i do not think a door latch should ever have to be replaced, on any car, as this is part of the basic car chasis/frame and should last the life of the car. we had no choice because this door would not open at all and my wife had to crawl in/across from the front passenger-side door to get in until we could get it fixed. *tr
Driving on i270 south towards 33 east at 65 mph with 4 teenagers and 1 8 week old baby in my 2000 honda odyssey and the rear sliding passenger door flies open on its own. my 6 year old daughter was sitting in the seat next to the door when it flew open. it scared her half to death as she was staring at the pavement going by at 65 mph. the door wasn't even on. i turn them off because i am afraid of them opening when they shouldn't after hearing all the stories about these doors. it's a good thing my daughter had her seatbelt on and sitting in her seat or this could have been very tragic. no one died this time. why will honda not see there is a serious safety issue here. the latch has been replaced numerous times and yet it is still failing to the point the door will not stay shut on it's own. something must be done before someone dies here!!! *tr
The sliding door on my honda odyssey gets-2000 stuck open. i know it ma not be a crash concern, but when we get stranded somewhere in the winter with two small kids and it's 10 degrees outside, it's not a safe situation. *tr
I own a 2000 honda odyssey ex minivan with automatic sliding side doors. the driver's side sliding door has been malfunctioning for about six years, as it fails to automatically open and/or close using the dash switch, remote (key) button, or the door handle on the sliding door itself. the door will do one of the following: upon actuation of above opening methods, it will not open at all, but beep three times; open partially and stop - and beep three times; open partially, then close on its own; or successfully open. i estimate the failure rate for failing to successfully open to be approximately 66% - roughly 2/3 of the time. this van is used, at times, to transport children, and i consider this problem to be safety-related, as it is most-difficult to open this door manually - from either inside or outside the minivan. *tr
Power sliding van doors will not close or open completely,we have to drive with infants in seats next to doors that will not close. if we were involved in an accident or any emergency that required immediate evacuation these faulty doors would prohibit timely departure from the interior of the vehicle and prevent any convenient access by emergency personnel. so far honda is ignoring this major safety defect and cannot fix this problem. *tr
2000 honda odyssey van. both automatic sliding doors randomly open while vehicle is in motion with adults and children in middle seat. *tr
I am owner of honda odyssey 2000. i have had problems with sliding doors on this vehicle from early on. after the warranty expired, i have had multiple failures on these doors and they have cost me hundreds of dollars. dealer charged me $500 to fix these doors in my recent incidence. these repair charges are a highway robbery since i feel i should not be paying for what is clearly a manufacturing and design defect in the vehicle. why isn't honda recalling these vans and fixing these door problems once & for all? *tr
Automatic sliding doors do not retract when obstructed by a child. several instances of doors narrowly closing on a child. this despite doors being repaired (at my own cost). apparent obvious manufacturer defect. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the sliding door on the passenger side will not close tightly. the door open alarm continues to chime due to the failure. the dealer diagnosed the cause of failure as the motor on the sliding door and they made the repair. however, the failure continues. the current and failure mileages were 111,916. the dealer stated check lens on cyclops brake light, small lens access cover broken. updated 08/28/07 *tr
My 6 year old daughter's finger got caught in the sliding door of our 2000 honda odyssey mini van. the door mechanism failed to detect her finger in its path and proceeded to close resulting in contusion and abrasion. she was treated at an emergency care facility where they ruled out any broken bones (thankfully). extreme human force was needed to pry the door open so that she could remove her injured finger from the closed door. this door has been checked in the past on 2 occasions by 2 separate honda dealerships. both determined that the door operated in compliance with the manufacturer's guidelines. i am so thankful that the outcome was not more serious as it could have been. i am only interested in getting the word out to other owners and find out what the manufacturer has to say about these circumstances. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda odyssey. the contact stated that both of the sliding doors were experiencing numerous failures. the doors are supposed to automatically slide open whenever she presses the buttons or pulls on the handle. when she does this, the doors fail to open properly. occasionally, the doors do not open at all and will close halfway, forcing her to have to exit the driver's seat and close the door manually. the failure has since worsened. the rear driver's side sliding door was not working at all. the passenger side sliding door will not automatically close and must be opened or closed manually. both doors were replaced under warranty. the contact was unsure of the work performed on the doors at the time of service; however, the failures would immediately recur. the only way that the rear passengers could exit the vehicle was through the front passenger or driver's side door. the contact believes that in an event of a crash, the children would not be safe. the doors have not been replaced and only the passenger side sliding door is currently able to open. in addition, the transmission is failing and has been repaired at least three times. while driving, the contact noticed that the brake and tcm indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. when she reached 40 mph, the rpm dial began moving up and down randomly. she took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not find any failures. a few days later while driving 40 mph, the vehicle shut off and was towed to the dealer. the dealer rebuilt the transmission; however, it failed again six months later. the transmission was replaced a second time, but failed again after a few weeks. the failure mileage was 74,614 and current mileage was 137,066.
The manual doors on my 2000 honda odyssey continually get stuck in the closed position. i had it looked at several times when i first bought the vehicle and it continues to be a problem in hot or cold, wet or dry weather. people get stuck inside, and can't get out unless they put their shoulder into the door, and people get stuck outside not being able to open the door. this is a real safety hazard. if the doors won't operate properly under noraml conditions, how likely will they operate in an accident situation? please instruct honda to initiate a recall and fix this problem.*ak
Right passenger door has beeped on and off since owning it. nothing could be done about it. now the door won't work at all. we cannot close it manually or electrically. the dealership says it needs new rollers and motor at a cost of $1339.00. *ak
Driver's side automatic door opened on its own while the vehicle was being driven. dealer made the correction. currently, the doors jam by either opening or closing halfway consumer had to force the door by hand.*ak
Driver's door locked while vehicle was parked and the engine was running. dealership has been notified.*ak when opening the drivers door all the doors locked causing consumer to be locked out of the vehicle. *ts
Transmission defect/extended warranty problem/pulsation of brakes when braking, slider doors sticking/loud buzzing sound (intermittent) *jb
Sliding doors on honda odyssey (van) have the tendency to stick and not open without repeated eforts if not used for a day or two. in many instances the handle of the vehicle broke off. it is potentially dangerous, incase of an emergecy the childern in the car seat in the rear of the car can not be easly reached. the manufacturer is well informed of the problem but does not given it a serious consideration.*ak
Doors do not slide easily, they stick and i notice a little bump protruding from just below each handle. now the paint is starting to come off where the bumps are!!*ak
Rear bucket seat buckle unbolted from its structure without any impact or force being applied. *ak there were problems with the temperature control knob. (the entire heat a/c control panel was replaced), the front brake pads had to be replaced and the rotors had to be cut, the check engine light had come on, and gasoline was smelled each time the engine was shut off. *sc *jb
2000 honda odyssey lx manual sliding doors "sticking" problem solution: a) after attempting to open the sliding door, and it only "pops open" slightly and sticks; b) from inside the vehicle, push outward on the upper corner (of the sliding door) which is closest to the rear of the vehicle. it should push outward easily, and the door should slide open freely. c) apply lubricant to the upper rear corner of the weather stripping rubber: try silicon grease, or silicon spray lubricant, or graphite powder, or talcum powder. problem solved. no more sticking when re-opening the previously stuck door. its probably the physics of the pressure of the door against the rubber creating sufficient friction to prevent the door from "popping" completely away from the rubber weather stripping and thus preventing the door from sliding open. *la
Rear sliding doors stick and will not open. dealer has greased the seals many times. this fixes the problem sor only a short time. this is a safety hazard as passengers in the rear cannot get out if the doors are stuck. this has been a problem ever since the vehicle was purchased.
The child was standing in the middle of the sliding door when it closed without the owner pressing the close button. the owner took the vehicle to the dealership. the mechanic had not resolve the problem. *jb
Manual sliding doors stick to the point that occupants cannot get out of the car. it has taken two large adults (one pulling from the outside and the other kicking from the inside) to open the doors. problem began in summer, 2003. we broke and had to replace one of the door handles in 11/04 because we were pulling so hard to get the door open. complained whenever we took the car in for service, but our complaints never appear on our invoices. therefore, according to honda, there is no record of a problem with our doors. honda's recommendation has been to lubricate the doors, but we never notice any improvement in the problem. my dealer just informed me that a service bulletin has been issued recommending the replacement of the door seals at a cost to us of nearly $400. as a "goodwill" gesture, they have offered to pay for the parts, but we will pay nearly $200 to correct this problem. this seems to be a safety issue that honda should correct, but as the problem arose after our 30,000 mile warranty, they feel there is no obligation to fix the problem. i keep thinking about my children being trapped, perhaps with the car on fire, and wonder how honda can treat the issue so casually. *nm
Problems with passenger side power door since vehicle purchase. door will not close completely, buzzer will sound. repeated attempts to close door may/may not correct problem. vehicle has been to dealership numerous times (5+) with replacement of door closer motor, re-alignment and adjustments. door now nearing end of warranty period and is completely inoperative. american honda contacted. consider this a design flaw that should be covered under extended warranty by mfr. *nlm
The left sliding door malfunctioned every time it was opened due to the defect as described in the sliding door recall 00v119000. this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *ak
While driving the vehicle the driver side sliding door would open. the door does not latch. dealer has been notified. ph
There was a creaking noise coming from the passenger left side sliding door when a turn was made, the sliding door failed on 2 occasions, which caused the passengers to have to enter through the driver left side sliding door. *ak *jb
After it rains or there has been humid weather doors will not open. took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced doors. but, outside handle problem is still occurring. please provide any further information.*ak
Passenger side rear power sliding door will not close all the way. door slides fully shut, but then reverses about 1/2inch and is visibly not latched/closed. also at times when door does visually close all the way, while driving the audible warning noise for an open door comes on but the dashboard indicator does not show which door. depress the 'close' button on the right side power door will silence the alarm while driving, yet the problem recurs....it's tough to drive with that [xxx] noise blaring and you also wonder if the door is really shut and safely locked? i'm taking the vehicle to the dealer on 5/30/02, but based on the complaints shown on nhtsa website for similar problems, i am uncertain whether it is even possible to satisfactorily and completely fix in one visit. i'm 12 miles from passing the warranty period on the vehicle...called the dealer when i was 450 miles away but couldn't get appt. until 6 days later...i cannot park the vehicle just to make sure i don't go over 36,000 miles.... i'm also wondering if they do fix, will future fixes if same occurs or if not fixed satisfactorily will be covered as the problem has started while under warranty. the dealer i am going to, hinshaws honda has been in my experience in the past given 100% to all repairs, and i'm looking forward to getting the same honest and satisfactory service on this problem as i've had in the past. (or i'll be emailing the nhtsa again) i am doing this, to add my problem so if a recall is warranted, my problem can be counted. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The consumer stated that the trunk handle cable fell off. *yh
While child was entering vehicle through sliding door, it closed on child's hand and broke finger. dealer contacted. please add vin. *ak
While traveling, the highway and without warning, the driver and passenger doors will come open intermittenley. the dealership is aware of the problem.*jb
Both electric sliding doors would not close electronically. when electronic door is diabled, and doors cllosed manually --- the doors open while vehicle is in motion. also door closes on it's own without intervention making it very dangerous for kids. also doors safety system (not closing and crushing someone when in the path of closing electronic door) does not work.*ak
Left power sliding door acts like it is locked even though all other doors not locked. right power door will not latch completely. this was second time for this door, and has happened on left door previously.*ak
Door lock system automatically engaged with infant in car in summer heat. fire and rescue were called in an attempt to get into vehicle, but eventually had to break window to gain access and remove child. minivan has been in shop several times for sliding doors not shutting and or locks not engaging, or doors opening while vehicle is moving on road. honda refuses to accept responsibility, but has admitted to us in the past that they are having problems with the doors on this vehicle.
Brakes are making grinding noise, dealer replaced the front brake pads. *yd
